I am a police officer in a major city. I am going through the same feelings of wanting to be more healthy and self sufficient. I retire in a couple years and hope to be able to get a small rural property somehow. Neighbors and local governments, bureaucrats, they are all petty tyrants. So happy to see you living your best life and on your own terms. God bless.
This is the American dream! I long to live a more simple life! I also cleared out 90% of our kitchen, and it's crazy how freeing it actually is! We started on all the closets now!
Ive always lived with exactly what I need and no more. I was born that way(husband too) I was an independent housekeeper for 20 years and I was floored how most of my clients had stuff. Basements filled, closets packed, garages overflowing To much of everything Ive always lived free of clutter or excess I think the whole world will eventually end up wanting less and needing nothing We also grow our own food. Happy for you and your family
"How little value stuff really had..." I replayed that segment several times because it's so profound. People work like slaves to aquire stuff only for it to hold no value in the end. I encourage all who read this to watch the BBC documentary The Century of the Self. It explains how we became a society of consumers. I'm glad this family freed themselves and are now living a life they truly value.
Love your story. Totally my thoughts on life. I landed on living tiny by other circumstance but here I am in 400 sq feet. It’s been 4 years now and I’m still learning . We are in Wisconsin so the ability to grow year round is not there. However, tower garden on the inside may be an option. I miss space sometimes but in my situation, I think I’m where God wants me. I’m older, and health is an issue. Learning to live with less “ things” more of God is what I feel we need.
Dawn, health does not need to be an issue any longer. God has promised to heal ALL our diseases, in Psalm 103:3. It's one of the benefits of believing in God.
This was so beautiful to watch. It calmed me from a terrible day in the office today. You are living my dream. I only wish my husband was on board with it, as well.
Thank you for sharing your story. Very inspiring. I keep feeling the same urgency. Waiting on the Lord’s timing. We’re no longer tied to anything, just waiting on Him. So thank you for sharing. Very timely💕
A lovely story - I am a senior going through this process as well. I feel so inspired by everyone’s story and process. I have a September challenge of getting rid of 100 items. Next month will be the same. I have so far let go of 55 items. Its a process as you say and not putting too much pressure on myself to let go but its also a mindset as well. Love you story - keep the videos coming. Thanks so much! ❤Sollena
It is a process for sure. I had a hard time letting go of my clothes initially. I heard someone say to put them in a bag in another closet first then in a few months see how you feel. That worked for me. By the time I remembered the bag I had forgotten what was in it and just donated the whole bag. That method helped my children too.
The Lord has been calling me on a mission to declutter, reduce/minimize and simplify my life for the last four years now.. it is really a difficult process because ‘things’ have had such a hold on me! As you said, we work hard to accumulate all the ‘things’ we think we need in life, only to get to the point where we don’t want to be a ‘slave’ to these things, and we get the desire to rid ourselves of them. This whole idea really hit me when my own aging parents sold their home to move into a senior apartment to not have the work of maintaining a home.. and l saw the process of trying to clean out a small home, and sell things not wanted or needed, and then they tried to give things to their children.. and then they gave me a truck load of stuff to take to the thrift store, and finally they moved the rest of their ‘stuff’ into my sisters basement.. this is where it’s been for six years! ..and l vowed that l would NOT do this to my kids! And l knew that l needed to start getting rid of stuff, and reduce the things l had. It’s been a slow process, starting with cleaning out the possessions my five children left behind when they moved out! I want to downsize, and we’ve been trying to find some land to homestead on.. we have a half acre in a small town and have been increasing our garden space yearly for the last four years, but just don’t have the room to do what we want. I find it really interesting that the Lord seems to be calling His people to this lifestyle 💗
Just found your channel. When my husband retired we sold our house and started living in our RV and traveling. We traveled for 15 years and now we’ve settled in north Florida. Our girls live here and medical issues have taken over our life. I’m interested in growing more of our produce
15 years! How amazing!! I'm sorry there are health issues. You can message me here if you want to chat about growing more produce. theaeroponictowerchannel.com/landing-page/
I just found your Channel, tonight. It is delightful to hear where you have been and where you are now. I am a Senior and was raised on a Ranch in Colorado. We had two gigantic gardens one for Veggies and one for flowers. I love growing things. I now live in an Apartment with a six ft Benjamin Ficus, and a gorgeous Tropical plant that flowers. I yen for the great outdoors and having a garden again. I will be able to afford a nice place soon. But your remarks tapped the brakes for me. I don't want too much to care for. I do want Vegetables, fruit Shrubs & Trees. Country living away from people. As Henry David Thoreau said: "Simplify, Simplify, Simplify"! At my Age I am still learning that truism! I like how you deleted the excess in your Life. I did that in my Marriage. Went from 3 Br, 2 Bth, Porsche, Saab, Sailboat, Jeep, etc. One kid, two dogs, and a Mortgage. We sold it all and hit the road in a 23' Avion Travel Trailer. We did that for six years. Then ended up in Salmon, ID flying the back-country for Big Game Hunters and Whitewater Rafting. Another House, 2 Acres, and a Big Garden. I canned everything, created Chutney Recipes with the excess. I made Sauerkraut, homemade Bread, Yogurt, etc. Brutal winters, short grow season, made the best of it. Then to the Big City - Spokane, another house, no garden. I created one with horse manure, Straw mulch, etc. Loved it had great flowers. Brutal Winters, cross country skied, white water rafted. Divorce. Lived there for another 9 years. Then I moved to Florida, now wanting out of here, so many people, and so many rules in HOA's Brutal Experiences there. I like where you have landed, and I know it feels great. I was wondering about the Tower Gardens I was so surprised to see you turning the tomatoes around on a lazy Susan!! Whew! That is neat. Congratulations on landing where you are happy. I guess that is what I will be looking for. Not much upkeep, privacy, NO HOA's EVER AGAIN! I like the no lawn idea, low maintenance. Thank you for such a pleasant Video. Trudy
Thank you for sharing your story! I have a feeling you would like this area when you decide to move. We are North of Asheville. Lots of people living simple lives in small homes and wild herb filled yards.
Your video showcasing the natural beauty and hard work of the people is truly amazing. Your work not only captures the splendor of our world but also honors the dedication of those who make it possible. Thank you for sharing this wonderful journey with us
Your story resonates with me, as my family too had moved from the city to the countryside for a simpler life. As I watched your video, I gasped at your tower garden as I too grow on a tower - though indoors - since our summer and winter are harsh. You've inspired me to look at more options for this planting style outdoors. Thanks for your lovely video.
WELL DONE congratulations for EVERYTHING you have NOW. I am annoyed Those ********* neighbours told on you, shame on them. They are so going to regret it. Never open the door for them when they run out of food. YOU ARE prepared and THEY are NOT.
Enjoyed watching & listening to you talk about some of your life’s story. Our stories are very similar. Wow! We are into growing our own food & raising our own animals here in eastern South Carolina as well. We also have started a food forest here to. You’re so right, there’s nothing like living the simple life style. God bless you guys. Thanks for sharing. 👍🏻🙌🏻😊❤️
Thank you! Food forests are the best! I'm glad you guys found your simple life. I want to go visit Roots and Refuge's homestead store in SC someday when they open.
Really this story made me to rethink and readjust to the minimal things At the end we really don't need so elaborate things and moreover it's difficult to maintain Loved your idea very much inspired thank you 😍
Wow I love it. First time I watched your video it's like the Lord has brought it over my feed. I've left a busy life too for a more simple one. Gosh I will not trade my new life for anything. The Lord had put this strongly to grow my own food over my spirit since 2016..am right now waiting for His restoration after a 7 years of wilderness to be made prepared and ready to serve Him... looking forward to reach out to you to get some advices from you. Watching from Mauritius island 🏝️🇲🇺😇😊. Stay blessed
Thank you SO much! We are in the process of selling everything and moving to the mountains as well! I’m so glad I found your channel and I just subscribed! Thanks again! GOD Bless y’all!🤠💕🌺
Thank you this was so encouraging and inspiring, it really gives me the belief that I can achieve this someday. I cannot wait to move out of the city into my farm
Farm life is waiting for me too. I always say two more years, my daughter reminded me I’ve been saying two more years for the last five years lol😢. I have a great paying job but my heart and soul has that void. Nature is healing, I don’t know how much more I can wait . We will see.
How wonderful that y’all have been able to do this. My partner and I have put a lot of thought into living a simpler life! We are both close to 70, and it all just seems overwhelming. Still could happen, but boy do I wish I would have had this idea about 10 years ago.
You’re living a great lifestyle! It’s so great to grow your own food. Your story is an inspiration! I also want to grow my own food in the near future. Your story give me so many ideas! Can’t wait! Thank you for sharing.
I feel your frustration about HOA nazis. Our story is the same. A neighbor complaining because we were growing vegetables on the side of our house. Then the HOA “ denying us permission to install a privacy fence around round OUR property! Bunch of nonsense.
You made a huge impact on the quality of life for your family by scaling back. The reasoning behind your decision says a lot about what type of community you want to be surrounded by. My family and I sold everything and also moved into a camper while building a home and farm. We learned a lot of skills and most importantly, the art of living.
Wow, you are a true inspiration to me and to many folks out there! We sold everything including our first and only house for 15 years. Now, we have been full-time rv dwellers/ modern pioneers for six years(and counting) since we left the sticks and bricks. We are waiting for the Lord's timing to return on a more permanent dwelling to start farming in pursuant to a "simple life"(for us) providing majority of our needs from our land. Stay blessed and a blessing to those who seeks for your guidance. Thank you for what you do and may the good Lord keep you and bless you for all the days ahead. -Greetings from the Nevada Desert!🤠🏜🏕
We are feeling the same right now.we have rented a house ten years love it .but we are older now.and know its not ours and the rents going up by 150 pound we are at our max nothing left for liveing.so we decided to leave heart wrenching.but also under stand about what personal belongings we have aquired along thr way .costing thousands getting hundreds back.done half the house half to go .but has to be done .onwards and upwards see where life takes us .thank you for your video x
I am moving to a cabin in Eastern KY. Ironically it’s very similar to the cabin I just sold closer to Nashville, but a much better layout and much smaller yard and price. It needs work, but it will be done with cash instead of just never being done because it’s unaffordable.
Congratulations! One of the things I also let go of was the idea of a perfectly finished home. This cabin has some wonky things. It has some unfinished aspects and missing door knobs....because we can't find a replacement that fits....but those things don't really matter. I agree affordable and slowly finished is way better!
I also moved out of Nairobi city. Living completely off - grid. This is great journaling. Sharing your life and encouraging me that how to declutter my mind.
Love it you just keep it up you'll be healthier than those around you who are complaining and wish they could look as good as you with all that fresh vegetable coming in God bless you and you take care of the lands and it will take care of you thank you thank you for sharing
I love tomatoes and my mom used to call me little Mater when she was alive and I just stumbled on this channel and have hit subscribe and the like button and I live in North Carolina and I'm trying to sell all my stuff and slim down so I can become light with my for animals and move somewhere out of the city away from the aggressive people and the bad energy and oh my goodness I'm tearing up reading everybody's comments and I'm praying for everybody to get to better places in Better Health and feeling good and just taking the time to smell the flowers and enjoy this video that is very uplifting in a world that is not❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ thank you and what a beautiful life I think we are all enjoying you sharing it with us😊🎉🎉🎉❤
@theaeroponictowerchannel oh thank you you are so sweet and I will pray for you that everything goes smoothly on your wonderful Homefront that is inspiring many and soothing to so many more people. Namaste 🙏🏽
My husband and I have talked about switching to a more simple lifestyle. I’m starting with getting rid of fast fashion clothes and switching to quality clothes that last longer. Where did you get your dress?!? I love it!
That is how we started! We also started purging things down a little each month. I would put things we hadn't used in 6 months in a box in a time out closet. If I didn't go back for it after a few months I would donate. I usually couldn't even remember what was in the box. This dress is 100% cotton but is fast fashion old navy....I got it at goodwill though. I buy cotton, linen or wool from thrift stores and i love my linen clothes from Not Perfect Linen and Pyne and Smith.
Beautiful garden and bountiful a harvest. The set up is similar to villages in In South Africa. Growing own food is healthy and cost effective. Enjoy the healthy lifestyle !!!
I just have to ask - why did you grow your garden in the front yard when you had 4 acres? I agree it gets harder and harder unless you simplify. I am in the process now of minimizing all our stuff being an empty nester. The world is our oyster - we don't need much. Appreciate your video, will subscribe :)
New follower from Umbria, Italy. Wonderful video! This is the first I watch and am looking forward to watch the rest! I live in a region where there is a very direct connection with food and I love it when people make the change. Bellissimo!!
I have been gardening for 20 years using many different methods and this way of growing is so great! Here is a link to my free ebook and other resources to learn more. My channel has tons of videos on the topic as well. stan.store/Theaeroponictowerchannel
New subscriber here! 👋 I am so happy I found your channel. This is exactly where my husband and I have found our hearts to be! I keep trying to manifest a green house to grow our food and keep the deer from eating it all. Maybe just a small fence and a few towers is what I should be focusing on?!?! Anywho, I’m so excited to learn from you and your videos!! ❤
I went back and forth on the greenhouse thing for a few years. I almost bought one several times and prepped land to build one once. I just couldn't quite figure out in my head how to make it work to grow more food. A high tunnel can offer a lot of value in certain regions but a traditional greenhouse is actually pretty limiting in most regions. The deer don't mess with my towers. I assume it's because they make noise.
Wow... loved your vid and story. Many congratulations. Little by little we are becoming a greater community worldwide. I'm also living in the country now. Thank you for your insights. Much love and abundance. Xx 🌷🌷🌷
The true american dream! Somehow this dream of owning property was turned into just owning STUFF! I'm glad you escaped :) I'm working on it too! growing what I can on apartment balcony and avoiding temptations to overconsume
Well I don't have all you had, but I was comfortable. Now I don't have much furniture and my 2 huge mulberry trees were knocked down during a storm about 3 years ago. I have a blank slate now, and I am going to put up a few raised beds. Also, since I saw your tower plants, that might be a thing to consider. I must say that I am glad I came across your channel. Thank you.
I'm glad you found me! I use raised beds as well for the things that don't grow on the towers. I have a free ebook if you want to learn more about tower gardening. stan.store/Theaeroponictowerchannel
I just found your channel when this video popped into my feed . . . one minute in, and I'm hitting the 'sub' button! Can't wait to catch up, and I'm looking forward to future videos, thanks!
I'm looking to relocate to somwhere like this place you have. I'v bee in a surf town in Costa Rica for the past twelve years. Now I'm selling everything. I'm 71 still surfing here in Tamarindo.
That sounds like an amazing place to live! I have been there twice. We really loved the Osa Peninsula area many years ago. We tried to find a place there to live our simple lifestyle.
I love to do that, but I’m not doing very well. I thought about to move to North Carolina, and do the same thing I live by myself with 4German Shepard . I like to be around animals planting things everything. God bless you Jesus coming.
Good for you!! I'm currently reading a book on planting tiny fruit trees all over the yard. You basically prune them like bushes and get lots of fruit without having huge fruit trees.
