The Aeroponic Tower Channel is the place to learn how to grow fresh food 365 days a year in small spaces using hydroponic/aeroponic technology. As a plant eater, having access to fresh food daily is my life's mission. This channel is where I share how I make that mission happen. Reduce waste, grow clean food.
How fast is your 20 gallon nutrient resevoir being used up in the heat of summer? I know it varies with the number and type of plants being grown but I'd like to think you could leave home for at least a week and preferably 2 weeks before your plants will start dying. Can you guess how long you could wait on average before you have to fill the res?
With a tower full of greens in the dead of the summer I can go close to two weeks per refill. With my squash, tomatoes, watermelons....I'm filling the tank every 5 days when they are mature plants. Maybe even just 3 days on a few once they are mature because I'm growing so many melons and cucumbers and water heavy plants. I hire a neighbor child to come fill them up or just check on things every 2-3 days just to be safe if we leave in the summer. It's not worth the risk! Inside I would leave them worry free for 2 weeks.
Another beautiful video Lady. Watching you do your thing is very unique lady. Especially when you pull out your knives..lol Keep up the good work lady. I hope you get discovered soon.
Couple of questions: Is the app ready? Do you grow more than 1 beet per rockwool? Got strawberries from a local nursery and washed off all the soil and put in the tower. The leaves are growing good but how long does it take before strawberries show up? I put them in the tower May 12.
The membership is ready! Look for an email tomorrow. I do 3 beets per rockwool and harvest the largest one first. As for strawberries it depends on your location and the variety. They will go into hydroponic adaptation for about 2 months. That is them growing new roots. Original roots have to die off and hydroponic roots get established.
Steffanie, thank you for this video! I've been sprouting consistently for a few years and was super excited to see your method. A couple questions... 1) Do you rotate the trays in a particular order, like the newest on the bottom? 2) If you want to green up the most mature tray, do you just leave it on the top of the stack with the lid off for a few hours? 3) Do you find that any sprouts tear apart when removing them from the tray, or do they all come out mostly intact? It sounds like the root systems may be a little stronger than jar sprouted. Thank you so much! Lori
I put the heartiest sprouts toward the bottom, like lentils, but it doesn’t matter all that much because they are just dripping a little water. To green them up I usually put that tray on the 2nd drop pan and leave the others stacked on the first covered. That is why I think two trays are needed to interchange.
They don’t tear apart. Unless you don’t seed them heavy enough. They can get a little spindly if there aren’t enough. They are “meatier” than jar sprouts.
5-6 months. So long!! That is why interval planting is important and I grow them in the baby greens section so it isn't costing me other food that could be growing. They are a commitment crop and I grow them more as a medicine than food.
I am here! :D Just wanted to announce my arrival. Loved this, very excited to see what is possible since I do not have my homestead/garden property yet :D Plus I too am Plant based.
I just did my first harvest on my aeroponic, I also experienced some brown tip on my lettuces Does that mean I took too long to harvest? I also experienced leaf minors and these tiny green bugs on the rock wool. I Soaked the lettuce and rock wool in water to drown the bugs it seemed to work well I cannot grow indoors because the electric bill is ridiculous so I have a shade cloth that hangs off the soffit and my tower hangs out under the eaves of our studio We don't have a garage to use also have 6 Vego garden beds to grow corn, Okinawan, sweet potatoes, ginger, turmeric, etc
Brown tips can mean it was older. With leaf minors if you see the damage they are most likely already gone and moved on. I never worry about those. A trick I do before consuming if I have a bug concern is to soak the food in a little salt water. Sounds like you have an amazing garden growing!!
I leave my lights and heat mat on 24 hours full time. I remove the heat lamp if temps are 75-80 or higher. Below 75 I just keep them on full time. It helps things grow more quickly.
Love your channel!! I really want to get into tower farming myself. I was curious to know how many towers you currently have. And how long it takes for the towers and additional supplies to pay for themselves with the food that they generate! Thanks so much.
Hi! I have 12. My goal is 15 and then I plan to put them on solar. The ROI will depend on how you use them. For someone who juices green juice daily it can be as quick as 7 months because juicers spend a fortune on greens and things to juice. On average I would say 12 months. For me it was pretty quick because I juice, eat salads daily and I'm really good at interval planting and turning things over fast. Now they save me a ton. They will also last a lifetime so there is a long term investment component. I call these my retirement plan.....lol. Here is a link to my free ebook and resources. I will also link my facebook group. If you decide to start tower farming make sure to use my link so you can get access to my membership site. I do all my trainings there so I can help you along the way. stan.store/Theaeroponictowerchannel. facebook.com/groups/236045339111667
Hi Stephanie I’m loving your RU-vid channel I planted my tower almost 3 weeks ago and noticed leaf miners, now I so disappointed I cut most of the affected leaves. Can I killed my plants by cutting too many leaves? And what’s the best way to treat organically so we can start eating healthy veggies ❤
You can slow growth if you cut more than 1/3 but leaf miners are not something you need to stress over. By the time you see the damage they have most likely left the leaf. You can try this link. I use organic biologicals for pests.....but I would see if they just go away on their own first. Leaf miners are really not a threat and you can still eat you plants. growarber.com/?rfsn=7921167.1e90ea&.1e90ea
Thanks! They come with a timer that allows you to plug in two towers per timer. I have 2 extension cords and 4 timers for 8 towers all running to a single plug. I just use multiplug adaptors. The tower use 278 watts per tower per day. It's very minimal. I have a free ebook with more details here. stan.store/Theaeroponictowerchannel
My tower garden flex just arrived several days ago and it’s all put together and ready to use. I’ve got my starts going now, so I found what you were saying about the nutrients very interesting. Any idea where tower garden sources their nutrients from? There was only one that I found at my local store that was organic nutrients rather than synthetic. So I’m wondering if you have any more information on the nutrients that came with it
I haven't tried them. The hole size is very important with the rockwool. It's the reason I have stuck with Tower Garden because most others I found didn't have a large enough hole. Most hydroponic systems are for lettuce. We grow much larger things and need that space for large seeds or heavy seeding. I have my free seed starting course out. If you used my link look for an email to the membership site!
They are sourced 100% in the US and are minerals from the earth. No additives except one thing needed to help plants take up iron because they can't do that naturally in water. I have a chapter on it in my free ebook. stan.store/Theaeroponictowerchannel
I would look local to your area. We have some shops around us focused on preparing that had the really good ones with everything you need for set up. I also purchased one from Sams awhile back. Azure standard will have the barrels in stock sometimes but they are not outfitted. It's just the barrel.
Thank you! The best way to learn is to go for it! Every climate and home is unique so you will learn what works best for the yeasts and bacteria in your home over time.
Love your videos! They are very informative and right up my alley. I’m interested in trying to grow mushrooms myself. The video was right on point. I whole-heartedly agree with you about our food systems being corrupt. I’m trying to teach myself how to be as self sufficient as possible and what I can’t grow, trying to find some trusted sources. Keep up the good work!
Thank you! It's nice to find like-minded people out there. The mushrooms have been a bit of a learning curve for me but they are so rewarding to grow. I'll be sharing more as I master this skill.
My favorite indoor plants are kale and Swiss chard. Easy to grow and super abundant on my ebb and flow system. I've also had poor success with broccoli and cauliflower. Plenty of greens but no florets. Thanks for your videos, they're so helpful and entertaining.😀
Thank you! I am having a lot of luck with baby cauliflower from totally tomato. It produces 2-3” heads inside in 30 days once in the tower and you can plant two per rockwool to increase yield. I love the greens on this variety too. Very tasty.
Absolutely love the content, which has given us so many good ideas for our future homestead. Recently moved to Western NC from Central FL, so your content is almost tailor-made to what we will be facing in terms of weather and growing seasons. Lately my wife has been doing a deep dive on sourcing of vitamins and minerals in our supplements and food, and the differences between synthetically made minerals versus ones that are derived from more natural sources. I say this because when it comes to tower gardening, I am interested in hearing about the sourcing of the nutrient mixes that the hydroponic towers use. Would you happen to know? Thanks for sharing such a wealth of information😀
You will love homesteading in this area! I’ll be sharing a lot more in future videos as we expand production to include more food and most likely dairy sheep. As for the nutrients. I’m not very knowledgeable aside from knowing they are pure, no fillers and 100% from the states. This article may help. I would like to dive in and know more and possibly try other options someday if there is a better option…but right now I am pouring in to setting up more food systems and I trust tower garden. agrotonomy.com/purity-of-the-nutrients-used-for-tower-garden-and-tower-farms/
@@theaeroponictowerchannel Thanks for the quick follow-up! This was helpful, and makes a lot of sense as to the purity and integrity of the mineral solutions. I can see why you trust it so much. Best of luck with the sheep endeavour. Sheep are on our list at some point too, so I will definitely stay tuned.
Great story glad the both of you are safe. Those thing let us know there's a higher being out there that is in charge and we should always be thankful for everything. Thank you for all that you do!!
I’m wanting to figure out how to best make the tower off grid. Have you figured out how to solar power them? Or any other tips on that? I just ordered my first one and anticipate having a lot more
I'm working on a plan but haven't mastered it yet. I want to do the same by the end of this year so I'll share as I learn more. I'm trying to partner with someone who does know and can let me make some videos on the topic. The solar is the key to making these really sustainable.
