My SUP got a PUNCTURE and I Tried to Fix it (Badly) | How to Repair a Stand Up Paddle Board Puncture

I have been stand up paddle boarding for many years now and this is the first time trying to fix a puncture! 🤕 It was not an easy fix. A long scratch on the underside of my board (from an oyster shell) which comes right up to the adjoining boundary 🐚🏄🏼‍♂️
It was a very slow puncture and the board would be fine to use as normal for a regular day out on the river, but wanted to patch it up for longer days/over night paddles and for use and safety whilst out on the sea 🌊
Time will tell with how successful the repair will be ⏳
If anyone else has any tips or advice on how they would have gone about fixing this one, please share the wealth in the comments 💬

Definitely used too much glue, I've used contact adhesive for years making costume items out of foam and you need the smallest amount possible, there should be next to no excess to squeeze out. If you need to do a repair again, use a brush to apply a very thin layer of glue, make sure it's gone tacky before attempting to bond together.

@@MattZab83 thanks for the advice and yes I think you are right! It hasn’t lasted but tbh it’s a bit of an awkward patch/place. Might try and fix it again at some point but mainly use a different board now! Although this one’s alright for little day trips 🏄🏼‍♂️

Watch the nrs video. I don't think gorilla glue is made for that. But ive had trouble and failed with other patches eithr goitn to get raft repair glue as per nrs or have a raft company repair it because they know their business.

Will check it out! Yeh raft/marine glue would be the best I guess! This patch came off but tbh I’ve still been using it, puncture is very slow so does the job for a day out on the water. Just aware of it when paddling on the sea and if I do an over night trip I take a pump with me to top up. Might try fixing it again one day 😂

@@MorewithMat originally I tried tear-aid patch kit and was out fishing on a lake and the patch blew out and we had to race to shore before we sank 😆😬 I just bought a vinyl patch with hook for rafts and Clifton urethane to glue it down. Seems to be a recommended one for raft patches and mounting extra tie downs and accessories so should be solid. Not gonna risk a cheap job this time. 👍

I think that’s how you get the best seal especially for an area like this puncture otherwise the surface might be creased. It also makes it easier to see if you have actually stopped the air leak with instant feedback

Unfortunately not! It’s a very slow puncture so the SUP is still usable. Will have to have another try at it when I get some time. Maybe the bond wasn’t great? Patch may need to be bigger? Any suggestions? 😅

Did you ever send it out to a shop? Looks like you 1. Didn’t cover the full hole (a lot of the air was coming from the seam itself, not just the scratch), 2. Didn’t use a proper vinyl cement, 3. Glued it while it was inflated, which would’ve pushed the glue out of the area where it was needed before it dried.
