Great way to start off your field activation series. Lots of sage advice in this one that is applicable to more than just radio activations. Thanks for sharing!
I greatly appreciate you making this video on your emergency backwoods kit! I admire your common sense approach and thank you for sharing the titanium flask you use, great idea. And I plan on adding one to my hiking kit also.
i picked up my tara/kit bag along time ago when they first came out, solid gear. it was the same color now its got a grey patina from hard use over the years. iv got a bunch of little kits in plastic bags for the front compartment, like signal kit with the usual + a mini road flare. fire kit and nav kit. i have a garmin 301 with strap removed attached to the right guy loop in the front zipper pocket, so you just unzip it a little and you can flop the gps right out of the pocket and up front. works great !!! back pocket i keep a tq and a blaster. the great thing about the kit bag is you can very easily toss the whole unit into a bigger pack. someday ill find a mtr3b and build a tiny qrp kit to put in it !!!
Very Informative Evan!!! I am missing a few items that you have in your kit so I will be adding those to mine. Only thing I can think you might consider to add is maybe mole skin for blisters and an extra pair of socks.
There's moleskin in the first aid kit, and I agree, that's definitely something you want. Socks go in my cold weather kit. For my summer kit, I'm generally not wearing socks to begin with, so it's a non issue. Thanks for watching!
I wouldn't bother with the flask. Instead, get a 12oz titanium mug that you can dummy cord to the bottom of the kit bag and let dangle. Boiling water 6oz at a time for purification sounds like a terrible time haha.
If you need charcloth to start a fire, why would you build a fire to make charcloth so you can use it to start a fire? You should already have charcloth in your kit.
I'm not carrying char cloth around. This isn't a bushcraft kit. In a pinch, if fire starting materials are running low, I'd make char cloth for the NEXT fire. If you're relying on char cloth to be your PRIMARY way to start a fire, you've already failed.
