My Swimbait Setup: One Rod to do it ALL! 

One of my trophy striper set ups is a Daiwa Prorex 400 with 50 lb power pro slick, a 50 lb flouro leader, on a skeet reese 10*2 heavy action swimbait rod. Its a great combo for giant swimbaits and monster river stripers. My other one is a saliga dogfight 6500 and a st croix😮 legend glass 7*2 ft heavy action

I realize I’m responding to an old comment. I don’t disagree with anything you said, however I believe the context that @WorkingClassZeroFishing is speaking about, the one setup, is with swimbait fishing and that 1-9oz weight baits. That’s my guess. I realize that’s still a wide gamut, but i’m just clarifying that i’m sure he’s using other setups for >1oz baits…which is even a much wider gamut. And i may be stating the obvious and or reading you both wrong. Just chiming in on this interesting topic. But, i definitely think ypu can cover all your bases, nearly any application for bass fishing, with 3 setups. Even two, if you really wanted to be lean. Cheers.

@@deline8ed619 Those are good points, my point goes more to softer / parabolic rods for treble hook baits and stiffer rods for top hook.

@@tucowept I got you, and why most are running more setups especially if you’re getting on the water often. I’ve seen and heard the OP’s name many times elsewhere online but this somehow was one of the first vids I’ve watched of his. ( I’m up here in southern, NH still trying to crack a 7😂 I now know he only throws big baits and that was your context in your response. Thanks man.

Look at a Dobyns rod and an Abu 6400 or 6401 (left crank) for a little more budget friendly setup. The Shimano Corvallus is also a decent round reel option.

I don't own or have never fished a Spiralite rod so I don't have an opinion.

Its considered moderate taper and I love it for soft baits. Yep, thats Otay.

It can throw the hinkle but to be really comfortable I was fishing the Dobyns 908 at the time. Truthfully, I don't fish the hinkle much anymore so I rarely need a larger caliber rod.

I don't really fish topwater anymore. When I do, its typically smaller stuff that needs a lighter rod.

I prefer slower gear ratios in general for large swimbaits but there are exceptions where I need something faster, but not often.

Braid to flour has failed me more times than I'd like to remember. I use a braid back on the reel to save a bit on the flouro though.

I have always used 50lb braid to a 20 or 30lb mono leader with an alberto knot. This has never failed me. Last year I tried a flouro leader for the first time (50lb braid to 30lb flouro) and I broke off a 6-7lb fish on a swimbait I make. That was my first and only failure with braid to flouro as I never used it after that. I wonder if a direct braid knot can dig into the flouro and cause a failure more than it can to mono? Food for thought, love the videos, especially the swim baiting theories series.

Fg knot solves any connection issues. But straight flour or mono has other features

Nothing is perfect. There is always room for improvement. The guides on this specific rod are a little larger than I like.
