That was extremely helpful. I have played the piece for years and I was not really thinking it through or examining my playing critically so this was a great wake up call.

Your channel is so underrated. I've been watching some of your older Sor content, it's phenomenal. By the way, you play it almost exactly the same way I do... sometimes I like the 1:54 Ab on the 3rd string with a little vibrato. It has to be real subtle delicate or it just sounds a bit strange, and it kinda depends on the instrument.

Thanks for your kind words, Eduardo. Glad we agree on the A flat!

Great lesson and playing David. The first time I heard this was at the Spanish Guitar Centre in Bristol. I was buying a new classical and I asked the owner Chris Gilbert if he would play something as I was quite new to classical. He played Lagrima. It sounded so good I bought the guitar and still play it 👍

Great tips! This piece seems like the perfect piece to teach musicality and interpretation, since the technique needed doesn’t get in the way for most guitarists. Keep these wonderful videos coming, please!

Beautiful. I love the thoughtful way you apply dramatic emphasis/variations to make a more cogent arrangement, giving the various voices their proper balance within this beautiful teardrop of a piece. LA-grima by TAR-rega.

This is a great piece to revisit because there are so many different parts. I love the idea of rest strokes played with the A finger and the glissando towards the end of the piece. Awesome thank you.

I tried learning this piece last summer, but it was premature. I'd only been playing for a year and a half. This video has inspired me to dig this piece up again and give is good solid whack.

I thought I had this piece under my belt but I’ve just spent nearly 2 hrs revisiting it and realising just how sloppy I’d become and how many ways I still could improve on it. Also good exercise to revisit and re-read the score. 🥴 I’ll keep coming back to this video. Thanks David.

Great video with some fine tips. I (and I expect most classical guitarists) always enjoy playing this piece. Any chance you could do a similar video on Adelita - a tune that I find is more difficult to play than it sounds? PS: when a tune/phrase repeats can you think of a tune where you might play quieter first and then louder (as opposed to the normal louder first and then quieter for the repeat or echo effect)?
@davidjaggs
@davidjaggs Год назад
Yes, that's a possibility. As a performer it's up to you to decide, if you like it, try it!

Hi David, you've made DVDs which demos I've watched on your YT. Wouldn't it be a good idea to make digital downloads available for purchase? For people like me that don't livein the EU it's too much of a hassle receiving a physical copy. Most laptop and PCs don't have a DVD/CD player anymore, anyway. Yet, I've always been interested to see the full films you made.

Hi there! There's only one DVD I made, the John Mills one called Evolucion. Every thing else is either on RU-vid or available digitally through my websites. I hope this helps!
