Never apologise for the history bits, Lisa…it’s what sets you apart from everyone else and is truly fascinating (to me at least). Love the passion you have for your art ❤
@Genevieve I don’t think she is in her 50’s yet. I vaguely remember reading something that mentioned she was born in the mid seventies which would put her in her mid to late 40’s. Maybe it was in her book?! I’ll delve into that. I could be wrong of course! She’s stunning whatever her age is.
I watched Lisa when I was obsessed with makeup at age 15-18… now I’m 24 and I rarely wear makeup. Just want to say Lisa you are so lovely and you haven’t aged a day. Thanks for teaching me everything I know about makeup
The best take ive seen yet! I often see other people use straight up red, which is a look, but I think can look more like sunburn rather than the flush u get from being in the cold 😗 and I agree, the lip is very korean/chinese style, but what I like is it’s the updated version where you blur the first “base” color outside the lip line so u get more shape. The older version (which i see a lot of people do on social media in the west) involves putting concealer on your lips and just the color in the middle, but i find that it can give u this strange “pursed lip” look 😮
REMEMBER Edward, so many only think about their looks, their money, their results, in egocentric ignorant and brainless consumption way; Lisa, on the other hand, has wits, guts and love - all her products are free from gruesome animal torture.
@@LisaEldridge have you heard of youtubers like nostalgia critic, angry video game nerd, cinema snob, film brain, obscurus lupa, linkara, spooney, phelous, nostalgia chick, Todd in the shadows, and rap critic
As a makeup artist, I love it when you talk about the 90s. It takes me back to when I discovered Kevyn Aucoin and all the sudden I was making my own blush/bronzer colors (I have to say it was beautiful 😂). ❤ It makes me really happy. 💋
Igari makeup! Really not that long ago. I think the rest of the world then was still stuck on the oversculpted thick brows and super-matte everything look
As someone who has fairly mild rosacea, I am actually excited for this trend! (But I totally understand other rosacea sufferers wouldn't be.) Instead of using foundation/blush on my cheeks, I use concealer on the edges of the redness. I've learned that sometimes it's just better to embrace my natural flush than to fight it.
As someone else with rosacea, I realized it's a lot easier to even out the pink than conceal it completely. As you probably know, rosacea flush likes to splotch, and if you conceal it via the usual layers of green concealer and foundation, I find it can simply have a mottled look still peep through.
Me: live in a Nordic country where I get winter flushed every day without any makeup Also me: dropped everything I was doing for this video But seriously Lisa, this is honestly the best take, I love how natural and easy you made it. I've always struggled with blush placement, but now I know what to do thanks to you 🥰
Indeed, and also, love it when Lisa subtly is like, “Sorry, TikTok kids, everything you think you’re inventing, I already did in the 90s, and more edgy to boot”. Bam. Love that.
@@kg8487 I was already starting to do this look during the *summer* before it even became the "I'm cold" look as a way to save time while getting ready for work in the morning. Funny how some of the things you've already been doing for a while all of a sudden go viral.
The mascara primer as a snow flake substitute is genius. 😻 Now, I had to stop and "rewind" the videos when you used the mist. I love mists in my skincare routine, and knowing your products there is always a twist on them which makes them all the more special. So, I can't wait for it to be available. 🥰
It would be so amazing if you could bring Jenna on your channel and walk us through the process and show your storyboards. I love hearing about how you create.❤
Same for me! It's the most universally flattering way to wear blush in my opinion. I had to figure it out by myself, so it's kind of funny to see how this is a "new trend" to some people but just an old habit for others.
I had a funny experience with Cold girl makeups… I did it and thought I looked really awesome… and then I went for a walk with friends in winter market … by the time we made it to the dinner party, my nature red cheek from the cold+make up made me look like an apple with frostbite 😂😂. My friends all thought I have hypertension, needed medical attention. Lesson learned… no walk in cold for prolonged time after applying makeup for party 😅😅😅🎉🎉
Lisa there is no such thing as a boring make up history lesson coming from you. This look is so fun ! especially with the glitter at the end ! I'll keep an eye out on instagram for those looks you did in the 90s, I'm curious to see what a less glam version of this make up would look like
i feel like people from the southern hemisphere are always giving disclaimers when making season-specific tutorials, but i think this is the first time i hear it from someone on the north hemisphere! that really brought a smile to my face, props to you, lisa! much love from brazil ♥️♥️♥️
Thank you for the lesson, so interesting. I have to say the trend kind of cracks me up as those of us that live and work in a truly cold country battle this look when coming in from the cold!! You get inside and then suddenly your skin is on fire and your nose is red as heck (& dry). But what I do quite like is the simplicity of it after a few years of square and unnatural brows, overlined lips etc. It certainly is nice & fresh, and you look beautiful as always.
Every time I hear of the cold girl I think of your Lisa Eldridge blush on mountain walk and when you described that color when you first released it! I have been doing it since then with thar blush color when I want that look!
The thing which is most unique in your channel and what catches the attention is your charming voice which already gives reassuring asmr and your utmost perfection makeup skills that just makes it to the BEST makeup channel ever….❤❤❤❤
It was minus 38 here last week and minus 14 (toasty warm) today so very appreciated! Thank you! On those days we sometimes need less blush and really good moisturizer. ☃️❄️✨💖
I know it would be a lot in post production but I would love to see the pictures of all the makeup references you mention in your videos whether it be red carpet or editorial or even behind the scenes snapshots of experimenting with looks.
Lisa, you are a breath of fresh air. I absolutely love your calm, educational videos, and your BBC program about make-up throughout history. What a gem. I would love to see a video with someone who suffers from melasma. Your take on minimum products that can be used quickly before work would be much appreciated. Also a run down of the best skin prep and products that will not settle into pores and creases.
Right on the nose with your research Lady Lisa! 👏☺️ I should have known you helped develop the Wednesday look for Netflix. I also noticed this trend in anime art /E-girls with a stripe of pink across the cheeks and nose. I am curious to watch you recreate the hyper-realistic version some day as well.
I remember doing a look like this in the late 90s/2000s but way more simple. I always used this revlon lipstick on my cheeks, lips and nose. It was this berry/wine colour, that had a mix of red/blueisch fuchia and a bit of brown. That was basicly it, some concealer where needed and powder. I did not even bother with eyemakeup back than.
@@elisaastorino2881 Uhh I am not that sure anymore. It was like Something love or love something. there was defenitly love in the name. i hope this helps. I don't know if it is still around
Your history lessons are never boring. For me, this look brings back a nice appreciation for velvety matte skin complemented by strategically placed glimmer & shine, which I was all about in the 80s. Your take on it is wonderful.
I know you're never short on ideas but I'd swoon over a series of tutorials based on times and place throughout your life and career. New York, Milan, Paris, London, Blackpool, etc circa whenever... A Makeup Memoir so to speak
I loved watching you do your version of this look! I would love to see your original looks from years ago! Thank you for making another video for us! ❤️ You are loved!!!
I recently saw portraits of Marie-Antoinette painted by Madame Vigée Le Brun where her blush (called "the rouge" if I remember correctly) gave this type of fresh look.
I absolutely love when you dive into makeup history! I love the way you talk about trends, tracking them back to their origins and linking them to societal attitudes at the time. Then, also discussing how they evolve as they're brought back around each time depending on new makeup technology/influenced by other trends. It's what makes your videos so endlessly fascinating (on top of the fact the makeup is just gorgeous! I don't think there's ever been a look I wouldn't wear!) Honestly, I feel like when I hear you talk about makeup it feeds my soul! Please open a school... I was a BA Hons in Lisa Eldridge Studies. (No joke, I'd quit my job and take out a second student loan for that!)
Thank you for acknowledging us people from the southern hemisphere! I'll definitely follow your tips and give it a shot despite this hot weather! I loved hearing a bit about the behind the scenes of creating the make up look for Wednesday on Jenna Ortega. I ADORE the final result! Wishing a great end and beginning of year! Love from Argentina 💖
Its beautiful as always.. love your take because it is suited for mature faces as well because of subtlety of colors. I had seen Cold Girl Makeup trending on RU-vid and Insta but wasnt sure it was something I could adopt, but your thumbnail and video made me open up to this idea of color placement. Oh I and I used to love those looks with exaggerated blush starting right in the undereye area back in the 2000s. Vogue used to be my inspiration for so many things back then
this is very reminiscent of the mid-to-late 1970s 'natural beauty look. I was in my teens then, and there was no highlighter. The magazines were advising Vaseline on the eyelids and lashes, and, pink blush across the bridge of the nose, under the brows - where the sun would hit, and then swept in a c-shaped arc up all the way from the cheekbones to the temples to give the impression of health. It was my go to,all the way through my teens, and nobody would ever admit to using any sort of foundation at the time. It was a quick 1 brush thing ,where I could do my cheeks and eyes with the awful brush that came with the(cheap blush. There were plenty of bad frosted lip products, but , but then no one was trying to look cold at the time. Frosted lips went with blue eyeshadow and a too-deep tan, and, just made you look cheap and blowsy.Definitely not my jam in 1975.
I get goosebumps listening to you talking about the history of make up! I would love to hear more about Jenna Ortegas look in Wednesday! Its so unique!!!
I did the original makeup and hair tests with Tim Burton and his wonderful costume designer in London last year. We tried many different makeup and hair looks on Jenna and Tim photographed each one until he found ‘the look’ he had in his imagination . Those pictures then formed the basis of the look for the wonderful team that worked on the show xxx
I love every anecdote that you have shared, it is one of the many things that have always made your channel so interesting. I was fascinated to know that you were somehow involved with the creation of the Wednesday makeup look. Any chances of Tara McDonald being invited to The House of Eldridge so you both talk about the inspirations and process behind the most iconic looks of the series?
I love the history ! Don’t ever stop! This makeup look is beautiful. It reminds of my grandmother. She use lipstick and “cream rouge” or she use her lipstick.💄💋
My late aunt did that all the time - I don't think she ever actually owned a dedicated cheek product. Those women came of age in a time where there were very few makeup products, especially compared to the overwhelming glut we have now. Besides, lipstick and cream rouge are practically the same mix of ingredients with the exception of some coloring agents that aren't FDA indicated as safe for lip products.
Love that bit of history of goth look, and would have loved to see the whole process of different looks with the make up and hair looks, as well as the mood board🖤🤍❤️❤️
Such an elevated take on the trend, fascinating bits of history and casually dropping you did the make up prep for Wednesday…. All in all, perfection ❤❤❤
I don't want to be annoying, but I learned a while ago that wind burns don't actually exist! What people think of as wind burns are actually sunburns. Often what people think are wind burns occur after a day spent outside in cold or cloudy weather, and people assume you can't burn unless it's sunny and hot.
I have loved that Dior rosy blush forever😊. I love listening to you talk about makeup trends, Lisa. Your passion comes through & the history of trends adds another level of fascination! Thank you for this video! ❤ PS-just ordered your gloss in new shade “Sorcery”. Can’t wait to receive it. Xo
I love your geeky insights about make up! I use the clinique black honey lipstick all over the face to achieve the look. It works wonderfully. (I have a light medium complexion)
I remember that Vogue shoot and it was beautiful. Love this trend and have seen it a ton around Seattle recently... along with some really great hats and muffs
Absolutely gorgeous wintery fresh!!! I am 52 and you are a true inspiration I have enjoyed watching you and trying many things! I own a few of the liquid lurex eyeshadows and ever since wearing them I haven’t stopped receiving compliments. I am in love with them all❤️❤️❤️❤️ Thank you for creating them😘
Great make up Lisa. Takes me back to the 90s when I first started using make up those were simpler times before social media burst on the scene when I used learn make up from books
you’re bang on about the trend’s lineage, you can really see the evolution from the e-girl trend and then earlier still from the japanese “tipsy” street style that had a moment in the mid-2010’s. really great catch. it’s fun seeing how these really blush-forward looks have been assimilated from subculture into mainstream culture. i love a bright cheek so i’ll have to give this a spin on NYE! beautiful as always!!
Hi Lisa. I do love to use my lipsticks as a blusher ( and had been doing this as far back as in the late 1970s/early 80s) and to hear you doing the same trick with a lipstick as blush just made me feel better that i'm not doing some kind of makeup crime. Thanks for the reaffirmation, as well as other tricks. Your lipsticks are btw my all time favourites. Happy New Year to you!
BORING?? Lisa you are amazing and every historical tangent or piece of information about your work that you include in videos is pure gold! Where are there pictures of your original windswept look that can be viewed? Are there any on your website? I would love to see the way you did the look.
I will have to check as not everything is on my site, lots of old tear sheets aren't on there ....my guess is they are sitting in an 'old style portfolio case somewhere! XX
Love the chat about the history of the trend and the use of Velvet Beauty as the blush 😍 I don't know if it's confidential if it involves celebs or working on TV shows like Wednesday, but I'd love to see some of your mood boards for when you're researching makeup before a shoot if possible?
This is my favorite look. I have been doing it for years just because it suits me although I live in hot Greece. Still I love it and do it all the time xx
just when i thought: trends are trends, there's no more to them... they come and disappear into oblivion, here comes Lisa with such a Master Class. You are truly the best Lisa, and I am very thankful to be able to learn from you. Long Live the Queen!!
i am still in awe the 180degree change in makeup trends, from thick contour and heavy coverage fundation and rudolph-nose highlighter to very minimalistic makeup , almost natural ..... I AM HAPPY THAT THE ERA OF HEAVY COVERAGE IS GONE!!!!!
Loved loved loved. As a girl in Newfoundland and having to walk to school, I now look back and think it was my best look. If you didn’t involve history conversation I’d have to look for an additional artist! I Love the reasoning, logic, effect. Isn’t it easier to understand makeup application with the reasoning?😉
I don't know if I've ever seen someone applying make up more elegantly than Lisa. It's just incredible to watch. Just her imagination, like how she has this very real vision in her head...lol....and she brings it to life in her way. It's cool to see. It's clearly such a passion and she's very good at what she does. I just adore watching her work at her craft and passion!!!! So happy that there are people like this on the planet that are loving what they do and following their passion....too many work jobs they just HATE ... so as to get that paycheck.... but the world would be a much nicer/friendlier/healthier place *or should I say the human race?* if people actually took the time to find their passion, and then figure out how to make money involving that passion!
Thanks for acknowledging the Southern Hemisphere and that we are not all sharing seasons. Would love to see more YT’s recognise that we live in a big wide world! Always love your infotainment approach to your content ❤
