when I was little my dad had a g-shock (DW-6600) i saw him wear it all the time. And when he passed away, I found his watch and I claimed it for myself. that was my first watch. Present Day, I stumbled upon The Time Teller channel, I was inspired by Jory to wear watches, collect watches, and learn more about watches. And Because of Jory I picked up the SKX007. so I just want to say thanks T3 for your everything you put out. I support your futures projects.
GSHOCKS are the watches that got me into collecting watches of all sorts. I have had a dozen of them. There are two in my box right now. I wear them every time I deploy or have to go to drill. I even wore one at my wedding. All my other watches I wanted, but I will always need a GSHOCK.
For me a Seiko SARB033 as the everyday/dress watch and a G-Shock as the sports/diver type watch is all you really need. Like he said the G-Shock has all the complications you could need and fits almost any situation except dress.
I find the internet watch communities a double edged sword; on one hand it's great to get information about a variety of watches and hear reviews, but I'm noticing there's a heard mentality for the less experienced watch enthusiast that want that guidance on what to get and just following the herd who are told the same thing (usually ends up being a value retention collection...). I like your collection as it's broad and shows character, and not just all high end luxury watches. Im glad the first few minutes of your video emphasized to do your own thing!
I just wanted to share the great news that trough the purchase of the world famous Seiko SKX009 I bought myself my very first piece of horological significance and with that the first watch for my collection. I managed to get my hands on one of the last ones, albeit at the little bit higher price of $235. It’s new, it’s the real deal (I checked the serial and case number) and more importantly it’s mine. I chose the SKX009 for my 7 inch wrist because of the Pepsi bezel which I think stands out just a little bit more and looks just a little bit more iconic than the black version on the SKX007. I did not opt for the smaller SKX013 because I like my watches a little bit larger. I want to thank you for teaching me about heritage and horology. Without your channel I probably would have ignorantly bought myself yet another Fossil. Thank you for making the wonderful world of watches accessible to newbies (on a budget) like me who are just starting out their collection. Please keep on making videos because I still have so much to learn about watches especially as I carefully and slowly try to expand and maybe even start to mod the watches of my collection. Again many thanks, you’ve got yourself a fan and follower for life! Joshua
T3 is absolutely correct about the current London time because, though Greenwich is in the London timezone, England is observing BST (British Summer Time) now. This is equivalent to our Daylight Savings Time. This will change back on the last Sunday in October and will once again be equal to GMT and/or ZULU time.
Jory , I have to say , you've got talent ! Your enthusiasm , knowledge and hilarity make you the very best watch channel on RU-vid ! .....and I've watched quite a few. Kudos baby !
I started watching T3 years ago and Jory, you more or less inspired my enthusiasm for horology and watches. You and Urban Gentry, today I just received my Hamilton Khaki field Mechanical in earth green PVD. I love it, just a classic watch that makes you grin. Anyway, I owe years of endless fun and learning to your channel.
I loved this video. Awesome collection. My perfect category lineup: Diver, travel(dual time), chrono, dress watch, Wildcard(just for fun watch). After years in this crazy hobby I actually have my ideal lineup: doxa silverlung, Damasko DA47, speedy pro, nomos club campus, glycine airman mystery. Oh and a g shock gw5000 and skx007 for my beaters ;-) It’s been quite the journey. Thanks for the ongoing inspiration The Timeteller!
I just got done fixing up a gift watch. A Casio Edifice quartz chronograph my friend me got while visiting Spain. I live in America. My first adult watch that I bought is a Casio G-Shock GW9400 Rangeman. Then I just ordered a Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical. Still new to the community. Advice welcome.
Great video to help in starting a collection, a road map really helps someone new to collecting so they don't make all the mistakes a lot of us have over the years! Dig that Vintage Grand Seiko, is it solid gold or plated? I don't care how much a collection is worth, everyone needs 1 or 5 G-shocks in collection. Heck if you don't want to put it into your collection just start a second G-Shock collection!
Shows the perfect collection... ***”At the end of the day, you need a G Shock”*** -The Time Teller Lol 😂😂😂 I love it! Great collection though. Lovin’ the new GMT. Keep’em coming.
2 divers (one black one whatever color you like most) 2 dress (one square one circle or one fancy one minimalist) 2 field (one being regular and the other being chrono).
Above comment correct. From October to March we (the UK) are on GMT though because we use daylight savings time in March we 'Spring forward' and are then on GMT+1 or British Summer Time
I have a Seiko Alpinist Reinterpretation (subtle green dial) as fieldwatch option. A vintage King Seiko 5626 as dresswatch. A Citizen Promaster as beater/diver(i don't really dive but i like a watch i could wear while swimming). A Vintage swiss Chronograph with diving Bezel as everyday-watch (From the brand Pierce that fell victim to the Quartz-Crisis but they were the first ones that made Chronographs waterproof) And a Casio CFX-200 as Digital watch. It is by far the King among all calculator-watches because it is a scientific-calculator. (Very expensive in good condition but absolutely worth it)
Great video again, you need more subscribers! Love the fun tone of your videos. I can only afford watches that are under $1000, but thats what I love about watches. You can get a really good watch for a few hundred and G-Shocks are even less expensive.
Like the Grand Seiko, I have two vintage Omega Constellations (1930s and 1960s) and they look very similar and can also be used as a nice casual watch with the right band. Love you videos - just discovered them. And I just bought a G-Shock MudMaster after watching you videos last night to add to my collection. Thx
Point of clarification. With Greenwich being a Borough of London, London (and the remainder of UK and Ireland) IS GMT (not GMT+1)........as you undoubtedly know . However, between the last weekend of March and last weekend of October, UK and Ireland adopts Daylight Saving (commonly called British Summer Time or BST) which is GMT+1.
Great list of watches for all occasions. I totally agree with the G-Shock as it is the wear and not worry watch. I always know it's going to work and it's going to be accurate. I also like your list of complications worth having. Those are really what you need in most situations. The others are just nice to have.
My take on a perfect 3-watch collection would definitely be: -Steinhart Ocean One 39; robust, accurate, Swiss, elegant, submarinier look-a-like. You can dress it up and down: Beater/everyday watch. -G-shock GA-2100; for the beach or any form of water/tough environment. Don’t have to worry about it. Tough watch -Tissot everytime swissmatic; very elegant dress watch for formal occasions or just everyday wear. Dress watch
You don’t even need a watch (if you carry a phone consistently)......so I reject any assertions that start with “all you really need is....”. Get what you want!
Appalachian Gunman - that suggests that you need to know what time it is every minute of every day. The main point was that anyone telling you what you need it full of shit
I have a decent watch collection with plenty of automatics and vintage pieces but I find myself wearing a G Shock at least 70% of the time, including at this very moment.
Good thinking overall T3. My Citizen caliber 2100 Chrono Ecodrive, Seiko Padi Turtle, Hamilton Khaki, Vintage Seiko 5 three hand dress watch and finally my total beater Timex Ironman digital watch. Out of my collection these match your categories pretty well.
Another great video Jory. London is GMT...we on the West Coast are GMT-8. Continental Europe Time is GMT +1. I do have a G-Shock btw....One complication similar to GMT not mentioned is a World Timer. Accomplishes the same objective in a different way, either one works. Cheers
Great video, really helpful to loads of people. Let’s hope it deflects a lot of questions to you. Perhaps I would have put in “Pilot” watches as another possible category. Haven’t heard as much about your Oris Big Crown Pilot lately?
Nice collection. I especially like your Certina. Nothing wrong with the Big Tuna, just a matter of preference. My pick is Doxa. I have the Sub 300 Professional. As for tough and durable, I went with the Victorinox INOX. Do you still have your Frederique Constant? I always liked that model.
My lineup is 1. Bracelet Chronograph 2. Rubber Chronograph 3. G-Shock 4. Nato Strap Field Watch 5. Leather strap Dress Watch Maybe will add a GMT and Pilot watch in the future
I think a great place to start would be with a Hamilton khaki field mechanical, seiko skx007k2, and orient bambino gen 2 (although they are a bit large for a dress watch) All for $700 something dollars. Lot of value out there. Keep up the good work!
When I started watching your channel, I thought you were some overly opinionated watch snob. Watched some more and.... you're putting out great content, thanks for doing an excellent job. Subscribed!
Yes, I have a G-Shock mudman! I wouldn't call it part of my collection though, I keep it in my car as my work involved going to construction or renovation sites a couple of times a week and I will swap to my G-Shock for that matter. My other 5 watches are 1. Longines VHP quartz always ready to go everyday watch and my reference time for setting my mechanical watches. 2. Sinn U1 the diver for pools, beach or bringing my kids for outdoor activities. 3. Speedy Pro sort of a "vintage" style chronograph for shopping at the mall to time my parking meter. 4. Rolex Air King the quirky anti-magnetic Pilot with 100m water resistance for vacation, its versatile and not look out of place at the hotel pool or a fancy restaurant. 5. Rolex Black GMTc for business travels and in my opinion its a dressier "Submariner" adequate for my occasional formal wear. I liked that each watch in my collection has a purpose and all of them matches my daily smart casual outfit. I can choose to wear any of them daily and make sure they all get my wrist time 😀.
@@zBMatt I don't consider it part of my collection because it is not in my usual rotation. Its part of my work gear in my car like my safety boots and helmet.
Hi Jory, I think to help out any collection it should be broken down to what one likes..... if you fancy yourself a gentleman, then dress watches are the way to go. If you consider yourself an outdoor's man, then rugged watches are the way to go. If you're just an average guy, then what you presented is the way to go. Makes for a great video to present all three.
I've got a Hamilton Khaki Auto 38mm, Seiko SRP775 turtle (shopping for a tuna though), Seiko SARB033 as a dressier watch, no vintage watch, eyeing an orient quartz chronograph but haven't pulled the trigger, no GMT but I've been browsing, solar gshock gw-m5610 combines the last two of your categories.
My first forever watch was my dads air king. That went to his oldest grandson, my nephew. Jory got me to the khaki, my sub, Pam, and zenith ultra slim were my doing… now I’m definitely done…. Until my next watch!?!
My watch collection thus far consists of the Casio G-Shock G-2300 (as seen in AVP and Mr and Mrs Smith - geek points!), a Seiko Black Monster (original style, SKX779) and the re-issued Seiko Cocktail time (SRPB43). I can't see me adding anything to them just yet, but hey, who knows?!
I assume you’re referring to the shot featuring the four watches next to each other. The shot featuring only one watch with a hacking function. The shot where one of the watches shown is quartz. I’m glad you found my channel- I’m excited for you to learn some more about watches!
This episode wasn’t talking about which specific watch models to buy- it was simply showcasing various genres/complications I think could be included in a well-rounded watch collection. The turtle is a diver- a genre covered in the video.
Casio AE1200WHD-1A - everyday, dress (kinda), world timer, looks vintage and chrono. Add a solar G-shock as a diver and you’re covered by 2 watches :) But where’s the fun in only owning 2?
I don't really understand your collection but it's yours so I won't judge but here's my take. 1.Seiko SKX009 (sports watch) 2.Grand Seiko SBGJ019(dress watch) 3.Seiko SNK809(beater watch) 4.Seiko SSC081(weekender)
Incredible water resistance impressesses me, too. However, In the real world, scuba divers, unless they are extreme divers NEVER dive below 120 feet. So, 200 meters WR is more than adequate for serious divers! I love my SMP and PO that are rated to 300 meters, and 600 meters, respectively. But, for real diving, I have never done any diving anywhere close to 200 meters. Keep on keepin’ on Jory! SNE499 is more of a diver than most of us will ever need!
Nice balance watch collection, Joey you are very honest because the irony of a watch collection is your cheap Casio G Shock is more useful then a thousand dollars Rolex.
I actually think a chronograph with a diving bezel and good water resistance (200m) is the perfect sports AND everyday watch. You don't have to worry about babying it and the chronograph function is super helpful when cooking. Too bad modern ones aren't plentiful and are expensive
My dad gave me his Swiss Vintage Chronograph with diving-bezel. (A model from Pierce. a brand that fell victim to the Quartz crisis but they were the first ones to make chronographs water resistant). It was not working so i took it to a very talented watch-dealer. He fixed it and changed the glass. Cost me about 900€ but in it's current condition it's worth about 2500€ so i don't feel bad about it. Really the best everyday-watch i own. Got a vintage King Seiko (56KS) as a dress-option and that's pretty much all i wear. I also own a seiko alpinist (the reinterpretation) and a ridicolously expensive Casio-calculator-watch (CFX-200). but those 4 are all i need.
So far brunt of my collection is black bay eta black rose, El premero tri color chrono, seiko sarb035, hami khaki king great all around watch, sinn104 and coming soon an explorer ii also but black dial 40mm :) great video and def agree with the choices.
Need a updated three watch collection under $1000 unless the same watches are still the best. Maybe 3 examples of each at different price points.... while my most expensive would be the Alpinist with dress being less (Orient Bambino) someone else may place higher a sport or dress and use a Casio BM8180 as an EDC.
Is there an official/recognized listing of all the watch genres? One list I saw had dress, sports, designer and jewelry. The sports included Divers and Aviation
Too many pieces (IMO). Ideal collection comprises of just 4 pieces: dress field (Datejust, Santos or Aquaterra), sports diver (Sub, GMT 2 or Seamaster), chrono (Speedmaster, Daytona or Navitimer) and beater (G Shock). Perfect!
My man, you really get it! Great watches aren't about being high priced jewels and any superficial crap like that. That's for vacuous snobs. To real collectors it's all about functionality, sentiment, specs and stories. Every watch has its own personality and story. In my book people who don't get that are limiting their horizons. My G-shock is also about the cheapest, but most accurate and durable watch in my entire collection. It never fails and will still run as new long after my funeral ;-) I use its DCF77 atomic sync to set every clock I ever set my eyes on haha :-)
The only thing I don't agree is the second watch, for me the second watch should be a dress steel dress watch like a seiko sarb 033 or something like that. Because is the most versatile watch style, you can dress them casual or formal if you need, with a dive watch you can dress them formal (NOT a tuna) but you shouldn't. But they should be the third watch because they are coll.
