I have been a T1D for over 46 years and have been pumping for 37 years and recently upgraded my pump to the Medtronic 770G and first my pump with CGM. So far my BG's have been in TIR (Time in Range) over 80% of the time. I decided on the 770G for the following reasons: 1. rugged design (730G survived bouncing on the dance floor during dance competitions), 2. model upgrades over the internet (780G submitted to FDA for approval) and 3. current BG w/graphics and pump status on my smartphone. Love your channel and thanks for all your inspiring video updates.

I been on the Tandem Tslim x2 now for 4 years and my warranty was up and today i received my second tslim x2 pump today by UPS. I am so in love with the tandem pump. This pump is the best one i ever owned. I have a endo appointment next week for the pump specialist to set up my new pump. If a person is on the fence about what pump to choose I say hands down this is the one to go with. It is so easy with the touch screen to navigate through the pump. Thanks tandem for such a great device.

Hi Teresa. It’s probably too late to be of any help to you as it’s 6 months since your post. Firstly, I hope you are keeping well. Must be very challenging having your pancreas removed! I have had diabetes for 58 years and am a retired diabetes educator. If you haven’t already please see an educator or endo. to discuss hypo’s. You will need to be especially careful to avoid night-time hypo’s, as you won’t have the safety-net of glucagon response that a “normal” T1 has, which, though may be slower than in non- diabetics, will usually eventually bring you out of unconsciousness (unless of course you asphyxiate or have been drinking alcohol). All the very best to you.

Been on Tslim X2 for a month now. I agree with you on the button to "wake up" the pump. I've just learned to use both hands (a finger on each side of the button) and it wakes up every time. I do believe it is a safety measure. Yes, it does use a lot of insulin to fill the tubing and the cannula (I estimate about 15 units). I had to add that amount to what I now fill the cartridge with. The Medtronic I was on was less. I would like to see what's actually left in the cartridge when it calls to refill. Since it is not clear, you can't see it. All in all, I agree that the pros outweigh the cons. Good control over all for me. Thanks for a great video.

The bladder system to infusion set connector is a medical standard connector called "luer-lock". The bladder system for example have the exact same connector between the need and syringe you use to fill the bladder. I know it is bulky but the good thing is that you can use any 3rd party infusion set with the standardised luer-lock system which there is a ton if one of the Rubin Medical ones are not the right ones for you. As a medical professional I really appreciate them going with a standardised connector design.

I just started on this pump and I love it. One con I would add is if you're visually impaired or just have trouble with small print, you might have trouble working on the small screen (you can't change the fonts to make text bigger). That being said you can monitor blood sugars and other details on your smart phone so it is not a deal breaker. I also cant bolus from my phone but you can on more recent smart phones. Thanks for the video.
@ShesDiabetic
@ShesDiabetic Год назад
That's such a good point re the small print - I wouldn't have thought of that - but indeed that is very very very important! But like you said - if you've got the phone connection that helps. Thank you so much for watching and sharing your experience - if I ever speak to Tandem directly I will pass along your comments about the text size because I think that's incredibly important to note!

I’ve had my pump for almost two years. I’ve never gotten an occlusion alarm. I wonder if some of these cons are unique to different generations of pumps? On my pump the button to turn on the screen is easy to press. Mine came with a clip, it isn’t very comfortable as it bends back out into your body so I tend to wear a shirt tucked in there to prevent pain. I may look into your clip instead. On the topic of the tube join, I agree it would be nice if it were one piece, but then if it were and you had a true occlusion you’d have to waste the entire bladder of insulin instead of just repriming a new infusion set. Always pros and cons. I agree, this combo of Dexcom G6 and Tandem T:slim is amazing! Thanks for sharing your experiences with us.
@ShesDiabetic
@ShesDiabetic 3 года назад
I completely agree with your above points and am SO glad you don't experience issues with the occlusion alarms! It must be to do with different pumps because some have said they experience it frequently like me and others say it isn't an issue - I'm certainly so pleased for those that say it's not a problem!! Ultimately the Control iQ in combination with the Dexcom and Tslim combo is just a winner winner to me no matter what, and I'm glad you're having the same excellent feelings!!!! Thank you for watching my friend!!!

My daughter and I have been using this pump for little over a year and we both love it. The inclusions you talked about, my daughter used to get them all the time. She was using the 42" tubing canula's. What we found was the tubing would get bunched up or pinched off especially at night when she is trying to sleep, thus the alarm. I have experience it once but I wear my pump on an armband all the time. She like the longer tubing because it is easer to conceal the pump basically anywhere she wants. Our solution was that she would continue getting the 42" and I get the 32". So we have options. If you are getting the inclusion alerts often, consider the tubing length you are using and when the alarm occurs, what were you doing.
@ShesDiabetic
@ShesDiabetic 3 года назад
So interesting about the varied tubing lengths and your experience with the alarms!! Thank you for sharing that with me! I, exactly like you guys, always order 2 tubing lengths - exactly the same as you - and vary between. I've never thought about it - but maybe the tubing lengths and frequency of occlusion alarms coincide! I will have to keep a closer watching on this. Thank you so so much for sharing this with me - genuinely!!!

After over 4 1/2 years of using this, I agree with the pros. Add that the charging port is micro usb instead of usb-C, because I'd like it the same as my phone. You didn't mention t:Connect. Use and love that, which should work with all versions of the X2. Wish the pump's time of day was kept in sync with my phone via t:Connect. Looking forward to you Basal-IQ and Control-IQ reviews, as I use (and love) Control-IQ.

I’m in the process of switching from MDI to the pump and you just reinforced the high hopes I have for Tandem. Can’t wait to see your control and basal IQ review! As an aside, and I’m not recommending anybody do this, but I have seen some people actually extract the remaining insulin from the spent cartridge back into the syringe to use in the new cartridge. There is even a technique for getting it out of the tubing to keep wastage to a minimum.
@ShesDiabetic
@ShesDiabetic 3 года назад
Oh I'm excited for you to make the switch Robert!! I really think you're going to love it so so much! And I know what you mean about the insulin extraction - I've heard of people doing this too! I've never tried it, but I'm all about not wasting insulin - it's just criminal this is happening when insulin is so expensive and isn't even available to some!
@guitarforudude
@guitarforudude 3 года назад
I've been on the t:slim for 3 months (recently diagnosed T1). I average about 12 units of insulin/day. I was told by tandem that a new cartridge requires a MINIMUM of 100-120 units for the pump to recognize a "properly" filled cartridge. In any event, I have withdrawn insulin from the old cartridge, to infuse into the new one (site changes is every 3 days). I discussed this with my diabetic trainer. She didn't say not to do this, but said she'd "heard" that the insulin degrades, and I may not be getting the full effects of the "old" insulin. In the end, she said it was up to me- I'm NOT suggesting anyone do this, either. My thoughts are this: once I take a new vial from the fridge, the insulin is good for 28 days. I'm just transporting the insulin from the vial, to the cartridge bladder, then from the old bladder, to a new one. I don't do this for every exchange; maybe every third time. The last time I did this, I extracted 60 units of insulin. Until I see some science behind this "degradation" I'll likely continue to do this. Tandem should make cartridges with smaller bladders. I'd imagine a software upgrade would be required for the pump to recognize a smaller amount. I'm fortunate in that I have excellent insurance, and my only out of pocket expense, is for the insulin ($60 US for 5 vials). My pump and Dexcom supplies are all paid by my insurance. I think it's a crime that so much insulin is literally being thrown in the trash, especially when so many people are rationing insulin due to cost. I'm doing this partially out of principle. I've read it costs less than $6 to produce a vial of insulin, but sold for hundreds, without insurance subsidizing the cost. If I could safely, and legally, donate my insulin to someone uninsured, I'd be happy to. No one should die from lack of insulin.
@guitarforudude
@guitarforudude 3 года назад
@@ShesDiabetic May I ask how many units you average per day? My needs are about 12u/day. I waste upwards of 50-60+ units per exchange! And thank you for your videos. You're an inspiration to newbies, like me! ❤️

For me the big negative has been the "AutoSoft XC" infusion sets. I get normal insulin sensitivity for about the first 12 hours (consistent with the settings from my previous pump), then I see an upward trend and have to max out my basal for the remaining two days. Right now, even that's not working, on a completely pristine love-handle site! Reading online, this seems to be caused by leaks or tunneling with the plastic sets. I'm planning to switch to the TruSteel sets, but the customer support line said I have to wait till business hours to do that. And yes, there's a lot of wastage unless you use the loading syringe to draw the insulin out of spent cartridges and tubing; not an easy process but it does work if you're patient and careful.

Great video thanks for sharing. I have looked into switching to Tslim in the past, I've used Medtronic pumps for years the new 780G with G4 sensor is a full loop system that makes basal and bolus adjust like this Tslim and is in color as well. Changing insulin Reservoirs and insertions sets with this t slim seem far more complicated. Also the new medtronic insert sets and CGM last 7 days all you have to do is refill the insulin Reservoir. Changing once per week vs every 3 days is a hugh plus. I do love the style and size of the Tslim. 🤷‍♂️ I will continue my research

I’ve had the pump for two weeks now and I’ve loved it but I’m on board with you about the insulin waste. The amount of insulin I’m putting in the syringe and the amount that I end up throwing out because of air bubbles and inevitably in the cartridge is more than I’d like to (to put it nicely).

When you take the syringe out of the bladder after removing the air just pull a little bit of normal air in so you empty the needle from insulin. Then there should be no wastage when you empty the air from the syringe. And if there is more insulin in the syringe that fits in the bladder you can just put it back into the cannula. I know this is a damn struggle in the US.

My doctor is trying to get me to switch from medtronic to tandem. I've been surfing videos to get some insight. I'm going on 33 years as a T1D and I don't know how any of us would do it without an insulin pump, I really don't. Now having said that and in an attempt to not sound too _creepy_ _stalker-ish_ I gotta say my God your pretty!

Thanks for the great review. I've now been offered an insulin pump on NHS and this is one of the options. So it was really good to have a thorough review which didn't seem bias in any way and actually pointed out the downsides in a reasonable way. I wonder if some of those concerns like the belt clip will be made in a newer version. Or if they would just leave 3rd party companies sort it with add ons.

Oh! It seems you couldn't find the pump case that comes with a clip. It's not the best clip you can find, but it's way better than the one you bought! Also my top button works fine (always through the pump case, so it's funny you mention this! lol). I totally agree with you about the confirmation steps...too many! Also agree with the insulin wastage, ridiculous... And about the occlusion alarms, I only got it once! So I don't know... it depens on the person. I clean the pump with alcohol everytime I change the site (every 3 days). I like it clean and disinfected. The pump case protects the pump properly, so there's not much dust or anything to clean. I'm sure you forgot to mention about the packaging wastage... too much plastic and sharp materials to recycle/throw away. In conclusion, I also LOVE this pump. One of the best decisions I took in my whole life :)
@ShesDiabetic
@ShesDiabetic 3 года назад
I'm with you - I clean mine just like that too! I'm so glad you like the pump too - I'm learning every users experience is a little different, and you're right about the pump - but I did not want anything to add to the bulk of the pump so I totally forgot about the case, but still don't care for it anyway, as it makes the pump much bulkier, just to achieve actually having a clip, that's an issue in my opinion - but totally my overlooking!!! And great point about the wastage of actual packaging. Sadly, I think at this moment that just comes with the territory of pump life - I hope it changes in the future though!!!

Rechargeable batteries, an system that actually works, connectivity all those things can Medtronic learn from. I love this kind of pumps but my prof wouldn't get me to this system because with her words this system is scatchy and not trustworthy. So as tip for all those t1d out there don't take Medtronic they will say it's state of the art and it's a wow 🤩 pump but it isn't. I regret that i felt inside their trap and didn't knew of the abilities of the t-slim this is a pump as it should be but couldn't become to that point'cause of trust and other minor issues. Go for dexcom and the t-slim x2. The looks, recharging capability even iPhone i watch connectivity options it's a dream pump.
@TheHanStudios
@TheHanStudios 2 года назад
I don't think your doctor was very in the know if they thought the T Slim was sketchy and not trustworthy. It's probably THE most trustworthy and reliable pump option out there aside for the new Omnipod 5 which looks very promising as well. Medtronic CGMs are quite terrible and prone to errors, require tons of calibrations, and other issues. Dexcom CGM has rarely given me issues aside for early on getting some early failures, but I resolved that when I switched to inserting in my arms instead of abdomen. When it comes to the T Slim, the pump has been excellent! The pump keeps getting new features, including the new Mobile Bolus feature that I'm currently beta testing for them. It works great and is supported on a number of both Android and iOS devices, which is more than some of the other competitors in terms of compatibility. Also, it has 300 units like the traditional Medtronic pumps which is something I unfortunately require because my daily insulin usage is in the 90-100u range, maybe 80s at the lowest. The only issue I've had is occasional occlusion errors which isn't a fault to the pump but just my body/skin and normal movement, and it's not something I would ever be able to predict. Occlusions can happen on any pump, though, unfortunately. I've only had the pump battery die on me once when I forgot to change it, and it was a bit annoying because I had to go back through the cartridge load process (it forgets if you had a site inserted already if the battery goes out). Aside for that, it's been great! Super accurate because of the Dexcom working in 'tandem' with the device. Since the CGM is so accurate, I have trust that the pump will make good decisions on my basal rates and auto correction boluses. I do wish it was a bit more aggressive with corrections because I still usually end up having to do my own corrections at time which usually are good, but overall it is good. If you have any questions about the G6 from someone that has been using it for nearly 4 yrs and is going to be renewing their warranty for another 4 years with Tandem, feel free to ask away. I'm a big fan of both Tandem and Dexcom and looking forward to the next few years of innovation in Diabetes treatment. For now, mobile bolus is the next step and is something I am happily helping test!

Many thanks for this. I'm looking to change pumps from Med 630G to tslim in a few months. Medicare prevented me from getting the 670G on the last swap so, I'm keenly interested in the auto basal adjustment being offered. I had already swapped to Dexcom G6 CGM which has been far more accurate, reliable, and avoids continual nuisance alarms for calibrations. It'll be nice to get back to the pump - CGM interface if I go this route. One big pro for me with Medtronics is the pump being waterproof vs resistant. Spending a lot of time on the water results in me sometimes spending time in the water which can be a bad thing with a water-resistant pump. I share the concern about tslim insulin waste. The Medtronics reservoir/infusion set has been quite efficient. I typically fill 250 units lasting 5 days losing only 10 - 15 units leftover in the tubing and reservoir. It seems (from others) tslim loses 50 units in the bladder plus whatever the tubing holds. Does this sound about right for losses you've experienced? There are always pro/cons but, so far, I'm leaning towards tslim. Your help is appreciated.

Thank you for your good video and your honest opinion about the Tandem t:slim x2 pump. I am from Germany and I have been a diabetic typ 1 for over 23 years. Currently, I am using the MiniMed 640G pump and freestyle libre 2. My Insulin, which I use with my pump is Lyumjev. I am thinking of switching to Dexcom G7, when it is available, and then to a t:slim x3 pump. My questions for you: ► Which insulin to you currently use with your Tandem t:slim x2 pump? Humalog? Lyumjev? An other insulin? ► When my blood sugar is high, e.g. 200 mg/dl or more, my freestyle libre 2 device shows me between250 mg/dl to 270 mg/dl. There are high deviations. Which experiences have you made with the dexcom G6 for the cases that your blood sugar was over 200 mg/dl. How big were the deviations from the value which dexcom G6 shows to your blood sugar (finger pricking)? Best regards from Germany, Oli
@ShesDiabetic
@ShesDiabetic 2 года назад
Thanks Oli! To answer your questions: 1- I use Novorapid in my pump 2- Regarding Dexcom G6 discrepancies, I normally only do finger pricks on the first day of my sensor, to ensure it’s accurate, and when my symptoms don’t match the number on the screen. I’ve found the high and low discrepancies to be very minimal, maybe 10-15 points with a really rapidly rising or falling number and maybe 2-5 when I’m stable. The G6 is known for it’s particularly excellent accuracy in the extreme (high + low) levels. I hope the helps and wish you very good luck on your quest for the perfect combo for you!

I just called Tandem and got the process going for a control IQ. I've never been on a pump before and have been on MDI for about 4 yrs (was diagnosed in late 80s/early 90s and was just on pills prior). I've watched tons of videos so far - some people hated the pump and some loved it - since I'd found out it was covered by Medicaid I thought I'd give it a try. I was actually notified, maybe, late last year, but being such a big change in management I was a bit apprehensive. Wish me luck. Nice review! I got on the t:slim back in October and mine did come with a clip! I wonder if it's a US/UK difference?? Also, I've never gotten an occlusion alarm, so I wonder if that's a problem with your pump specifically. The main complaint I have is with Control IQ when it gives you a correction bolus when you go high, I really wish there was some sort of notification that you're being given insulin. Other than that, I love this pump so much! I really lucked out that I was diagnosed when all this technology already existed. It's made life with type 1 so much easier than it would've been in years past.

Hi guys. Ok, here’s my take on Medtronic 770g vs. T-slim. I’ve never used the t-slim bc i hear that the cartridge is troublesome. But here’s my big gripe on the 770g. It’s so big, I’m constantly jabbing myself in the stomach bc of the insulin cylinder being so high on the pump. The 770 is so much bigger than the 530 used to be. Maybe it’s different for a male, but this new Medtronic is so ridiculously bulky and heavy. Even when you clip it on your pants, the hem folds down. The engineering is esthetically awful. I’ve been wearing a pump since 2000, and I would have thought that Medtronic would have made the pump smaller instead of bigger. it really is a pain and I regret getting it last year. The only thing that I like about Medtronic is their customer service. They’ve always been great Changing the reservoir on the T-slim seems to have more steps than with Medtronic. You have to have a regular syringe to pull the insulin out of the bottle and into the reservoir. Plus there are a lot of other steps, I’ve noted. Also, it depends on which insurance you have.. So that’s my take on these pumps. Anyway, good luck!

That is so strange yours did not come with a clip! When I got mine in August of 2020, it was in the box, I think the box with the pump I am pretty sure. There were like three boxes with everything and all of the manuals haha. But it was in there...But the clip/cover is a tad bulky with an already heavier pump. It is nice cause you can make it vertical or horizontal. However, it is just way bulkier and that BUTTON. It is wayyy harder to push with the clip/cover on because it covers the button. It is nice but I have seen others buy that clip from amazon and I think I will be doing that soon to make it lighter and also to access the button better...even though it is difficult no matter what! Just letting you! You are not missing out on much :) Thanks for sharing!

Great points and completely valid concerns Kevin! As for the top button, I think mine is particularly sticky and I’ve had many people comment that this hasn’t been an issue for them, and the same goes for the occlusion alarms. With regards to the battery it is certainly a consideration; and I love your idea about a swap out (tslim please make this!!) but with an external charger it’s truly easy peasy and not something that holds me back. Just my personal feelings towards your concerns- but we’re all different so I completely understand your hesitancy! Good luck in your search and do let me know what you decide to go with! I hope you find a pump that is exactly to your liking and best for you!! ☺️

I love your video, very informative. I have had the T slim for 3 years It came with a case and clip. They now have a new case with a clip that turns 360゚ it's great. My biggest objection is the alarms and the pigtail from the cartridge. I also agree that the T slim representatives are A+ I have been a T1D for 59 yrs how long was it for your dad.

I'm so glad to hear you have had the same experiences with the reps - that's so so so good to hear! Also wonderful to hear about the new clip and case! Nice!! Thank you for sharing and thank you for your kind words too! ❤️

Regarding occlusion alarms, I'm sad to find out that this is a thing with the t:slim (since I'm considering switching to it). I've had the same experience, starting with my Medtronic 6XXG and carried forward with my 7XXG models. My workaround is similar (ignore it and drive on). I remain convinced that the safety threshold portions of the pump algorithms are programmed by lawyers.

I am eligible for this pump (tslim) this upcoming November. I hope it will help me with less low blood sugar. I used to have the omnipod but I had so many errors where I had to throw away so much insulin, I quit after a month. Hope the tslim helps everyone!

Oh, I hope this helps you too! I’ve heard of a lot of people having problems with errors on the Omni pod. That must be so incredibly frustrating! I hope you’re able to find a system that works great for you! 🙏🏻💙🙏🏻

This was such a helpful review! Thank you for sharing. I'm currently using the Medtronic system and considering upgrading to the Tslim. One of my concerns is related to the comfort of the Tslim clip. It looks like most of the Tslim clips on the market are stainless steel. How would you say that compares to the plastic clips on the medtronic in terms of comfort against bare skin? Would you be able to share more on the specific clip you purchased?

Do you think vaccines should be compulsory or voluntary?

My personal opinion is that they should be voluntary, if not, we go into a whole other category of who owns your body and your choices...but I understand it's a VERY complicated conversation!

I wish my insurance would have covered the T-Slim x2, they would only cover the Medtronic 770g. Switching from the Omnipod is going has been frustrating because my A1C skyrocketed on the pods. I have everything and am waiting for training. It’s way different than loading pods, but I’m hoping to get my bg back under control.

Oh I'm so so sorry you aren't able to switch to the tslim...I just find it so frustrating when all options aren't open to us - it seems crazy and unfair to me...I'm just really feel for you...! I hope you're able to get your A1C back to where you want it and that you feel better overall as a result! I'm thinking about you my friend and wish you success with your 770g - I hear it's quite stupendous!!

Been w/t a pump for over 20 yrs. Lately got some messages from a pump`s supplier that medicare is not approving me for supplies or even a new pump due to high numbers on c=pep test. Got in contact w/t minimed for help or even get me in contact w/t a different supplier and they only told me to get to a charity organization for help. Does anyone knows a supplier that can help me? I`m interested of getting a t:slim x2 pump.

Ah, I wish I could help shed some light on your issue, but sadly I cannot. That is so distressing. I really really hope and ask that people chime in here and help you get the answers you need!! 🙏
