Stivers Homestead Hi Jennifer, new subscriber here and loving it. I followed R&Rs goat babies to you and suggested Jess and Miah as the names. May I suggest another plant or two for your tea garden? Easy to grow, Holy Basil also known as Tulsi is an adaptogen which helps the body control stress/cortisol levels. Tastes great too. Also Zinger Hibiscus makes a tasty pink tea. Check them out.

I love your tea garden! My lavender has been a labor of love. Lavender has been the most challenging plant to grow by seed among all of my herbs. It takes a long time to germinate, but so worth the wait.

I'm finding that if I sow them in fall, they do better. Because they have the chance to over winter. Lavender needs a cold period to germinate properly.

Hello Jen, I just want to caution you. I have grown Lemon Balm. I started out with about a 6 inch pot or so of it and over the years it has spread probably 10 foot or so in length and about 3 or 4 foot wide. Same with the other mints. Good Luck with your tea garden, I intend on adding tea herbs and medicinal herbs in with my herbs in the future. Right now I have just a few culinary herbs that I use all the time.

what an awesome tea garden!! I've got a few of those herbs planted myself, but mostly for pest issues 😂.... you mentioned in another video that you were zone 6a/b...you guys are lucky... I'm zone 6b, and we are still having some frost at night and temps between 30 and 37 degrees.... wish I could get my beds planted.... my seed starts are taking over my house 😂... I'm only putting in 3 beds at 4 feet by 10 feet for 2 beds and one 2 x 10 feet, got more plants than I need but some are going to my daughters school, they are going do a raised bed, and doing a couple for my mom.... still have way too many.... love seeing you guys, makes me smile you guys are so giggly and happy 😊

I'm building a tea garden this year too. Hyssop, lemon balm, 3 different kinds of mint, fenugreek, chamomile, lavender, echinacia, angelica, cat nip, and green thread. I'll also be growing American chicory and dandelion in pots so that I can harvest the roots for making coffee. I'm pretty stoked. Never really considered growing my own tea until a few months ago. I think I have a few other flower/herbs I'm planting too, but can't remember right now.

Great video, as always! You might want to rethink planting the mint & lemon balm in that bed. They will take over & may crowd out the other plants. I have always planted my mint in containers or closed in area where they couldn’t spread beyond that. Can’t wait to see the progress of your garden beds & to learn more about the uses for herbs. I do have a small herb garden, but mostly culinary herbs (rosemary, several types of oregano several types of thyme, etc). Love & Hugs from Ft. Worth, Texas!

I like the idea of a tea garden. I didn’t know lavender was good for nausea, I’d just been using ginger up until now. I’m glad you covered lemon balm, I’ve got a variegated one at moment plus seeds for the regular kind. Also, you’re not crazy for growing dandelions, I am too. I wanted some I could guarantee dogs hadn’t peed on. Also, it’s easier to dig up the roots from a container to try making dandelion coffee. This is a really cool video, thank you 🙏

What a great variety of herbs! I love teas as well! I'm getting ready to strain my dandelions I jarred in olive oil 4 weeks ago to make salve. I've heard they are great with pain relief & also dry cracked skin. I never realized marigolds could be used for medicinal purposes. I've always just planted it to ward off bad bugs from my garden. I've got some mint starts ready to plant & picked up some basil, cilantro & lemon balm to plant this year. I'd love to see future videos on how you use the herbs & make products with them. Such a sweet video. ❤ Your sweet spirit shines especially bright in this one. I am excited for your new tea garden experience. I have grown all but one of those, the Lemon mint, which is in fact is very closely related to Bee Balm. I will let you know you are definitely going to want to carve out a patch for your chamomile. I used a bed for mine and could gather what I needed for teas and for making sleep pillows and gifts. Take care the lavender plant has good drainage, they are fussy about wet feet. You have a good start there. If you ever have questions I am happy to help. I've grown herbs here for 30 years almost and honestly cannot imagine life without them. Oh, one more thing, I did not know Marigold was good for sore throat relief. Learn something new every day.

I have a tea garden. So far I have sweet mint, chocolate mint, lemon balm, lavender, chocolate basil, marigolds. I have cilantro growing to. But I hope to add chamomile I can’t find a start or seed this year at my local stores. I want to add rosemary, thyme, catnip, lemon mint, lemon thyme, spearmint and peppermint. My favorite herb for tea that first got me into a tea garden was lemon balm and mint. I love flavoring my water with them to. Mint and strawberry water is good. I love to add lemon balm to my black sweet tea to. Excited to watch you tea garden grow! Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for the information. I had heard the term " tea garden" before on other homesteading videos but didn't know exactly what was meant by it. I grew up in Northern New England and we just called them herb or kitchen gardens. Maybe its a regional thing :D I hope to have a nice big one someday when we get a piece of land. I am currently just growing a few on my deck in containers with my veggies. I love all the herbs you listed, another good one to have is Plantain (which you probably already know) but if not, it would go very well with the others you have. Good for eating, salves, tinctures, teas, poultices, and so on. Like dandelion, most people think of it as a weed but it's so much more than that. Anyways... love the video and am enjoying following your adventures.

Hi, I'm a new subscriber from Roots and Refuge :) I have a rather large selection of herbs and wild plants in my garden for culinary and medicinal use too. If you like things for salves, then you may also want to try growing Calendula. Not only are the flowers beneficial as companion plants, pretty, but when steeped in oil they produce a wonderful liquid gold that can then be added to all sorts of other products, or used on its own. I add it to my body butters. I also use the flowers for tea. Thyme is also another powerhouse of a herb in the garden from a medicinal POV. Especially when it is cold season. Mixed with Lemon and raw local Honey, or Rosehip syrup, and you have something rather wonderful :)
