this game is goofy as hell and I'm loving it so far

One time playing D&D, the DM decided that during a caravan trip there was going to be an ambush. Some gnolls, an ogre, and a goblin or ten. Well, me being the barbarian, I charged up to the ogre and thanks to a lucky crit cut him in half with one attack. And now I'm not allowed to play wizards, rogues, OR barbarians...

I feel like a challenge run with no magic is the most immediately difficult challenge run but also the most obvious

The first one got me into challenge running. So, I love this goofy ahh series.

What I've learnt is that DD2 is very frontloaded. It can fizzle out fast if you think too much about some of the design decisions.

I made an ogre walk off a cliff as a trickster. And yet people tell me this game is bad.

I was a huge fan of the first one and the sequel doesn’t disappoint me

Honestly, "if you liked Dragon's Dogma 1, you'll like this one too" is basically the gist of it. It's more of the same game, both the good and bad. So far I've been loving it, and while there's a couple of annoyances that I have to reacclimate to, none of it has been frustrating to me. Overall, it's a game that isn't for everyone, but if you can get into it, you'll have a lot of fun. That said, PC players beware, there's a few technical problems on the PC version at the moment. Whether this is because of the Denuvo drm, or just generally poor optimization, it is an issue. I'm playing on PS5 though and haven't had any framerate problems or crashes thus far, but I've heard quite a few PC players have issues in big cities for sure. Other than that, be aware that just like the first game, fast travel is very limited, and there's only one save file. Despite what some people are claiming, you can manually delete your save, but be sure you have cloud saves off when you do so or your system may just redownload your save, (and if you do it too often too quickly, the PC version's drm may have issues). They are planning on adding in a new game option to the menu in the next update from my understanding though. One other thing I've seen people complain about a lot, is that there are microtransactions available in the store page, and I will say flat out DO NOT BUY THEM. You can get everything in there in game very easily with one exception, (a placeable fast travel waypoint that is a bit rare in game), and there is absolutely no reason to buy them unless you just really have no patience for playing the game. The items available from the delux edition are very minor and there's equivalent versions available that are only slightly less functional. In short, again, there is no reason to buy any of the microtransactions. It's just Capcom being Capcom and sticking pointless stuff in the store for people to buy if they really want to waste their money. They do that with every game they put out these days.

I was hoping for more, not just more of the same. The combat with flying enemies- I’m looking at you, harpies - is still terrible. Camera, when battling large enemies seems even worse than the first game (because of more trees?). The overweight mechanic is also still 💩 I hate it when games actively encourage you to collect everything, and then ‘punish’ you for it. The graphic improvement means that, at least in the forests, there’s more clutter, making enemy corpses harder to find and loot after a battle… I’ve also had ambushes where by the time I can find an enemy, the pawns have pretty much dealt with it.

I've heard from a reliable source that this game is aggressively monetized, has stability issues, lacks a second save file and Capcom isn't showing much interest in fixing the issues. Like a lot of games, probably not going to touch it unless it happens to show up on game pass.

no mention of the microtransactions? like pay real money to fast travel, or the pay to change character creation?

The game's not so bad when it doesn't crash 14 times on a character creator and another 10 randomly... I would say that If I got past the tutorial without it crashing as well. I have no idea how to properly rate it since my experience with this game was not even past that so for me, not recommended.
