Just want to tell you that another gymnast Lee Chih Kai who is from our country also fell when he was competing in Rio 2016 ( he’s first Olympic game and the first person in Taiwan ever made it to the finals). This video makes me soo emotional! I know Rhys is keeping such a great attitude, but I know deep down he is hurting, he is definitely hurting. The sacrifices...every day... for years and years and years to reach a goal, and achieve the goal, only to have the slightest of slipups keep you from the ultimate goal. I can't imagine everything going on inside his head. I just hope he has the best support system around him now, and people he can talk with and get out all those feelings and emotions.

Rhys, I'm so proud of you for becoming an Olympian, for making the final, and for handling adversity with perspective and grace. As a guy who's been to the Games as a spectator, watched my friends compete, and saw a bit of the "scene behind the scenes" I know how special this was for you. I feel bad for you and all of the athletes that due to Covid you couldn't have the full Olympic experience in Tokyo, competing in front of cheering crowds, touring around the host city with your fellow athletes and being treated as the superstar you truly are after your competition ended. I hope you can experience all that and more in Paris. I'll be eagerly watching your progress and will forever be cheering for you.

Watching the final last Sunday, I was so certain you and Ireland were going to medal with the possibility of the gold, I had that much confidence in your ability to do that well, I was absoluting gutted for you. BUT you still made history that day, first Irish gymnast in an Olympic final and your media interview afterwards was really inspiring, one that shows how resilient you are in your sport. Yourself and Matteo Berritinni (Italian tennis player and Wimbledon finalist) have been such great examples sports people doing something historic for yourselves and your countries, and to come out with resilience following a disappointment and determination in wanting to achieve in the future.
