I purchased one of these for my son. He'll receive it on Christmas. I was thinking that we'd set it up while he was sleeping. It can wake him up on the holiday morning. I think that will be fun.
You'll have a little trouble, but you can set it up in your room and then put it in his room after you set a manual alarm. Otherwise if you do the setup in his room it'll be cumbersome and a little noisy to get the set up done. Just set it up for his bed and arrangement after : )
I got an Alarmo almost right away because I saw it has Pikmin. I wish more of the Pikmin alarms were friendly at the beginning, and I also wish I could change the sleepy sounds to play for a much longer time (honestly, probably 30-60 mins as it takes me a long time to fall asleep). But I love the sleepy sounds, the hourly chimes, and the added intrigue this adds to my (otherwise horrible) mornings. I have a chronic disease (multiple sclerosis) that gives me a ton of fatigue and makes my mornings absolutely miserable. This is something fun/silly that has been added to my mornings, and I’m really happy with it.
Honestly 5 minutes sleepy sounds is way too short. 10 is also much too short. I would have bought this mainly for the sleepy sounds but unless they fix that I won’t get it. Thanks for the review!
I have a wife and dog but Felix you sold me! I really really hope it continues to get new games like Smash, Kirby, Mario Party, and Luigi’s Mansion! I mean it could be a fun marketing beat in a direct Alarmo updates.
My husband and I love it. It doesn't seem to bug our cat, so far. I agree that even a married person can use it and have a funny and charming way to wake up.
I have had alarmo for a week and it has helped me out a lot. I used to lay in bed for 30mins after an alarm. I spend less time on my phone in the morning (in part because im not teained to grab my phone to shut off an alarm) and i get out of bed sooner. In fact, i have noticed i wake up a bit before my alarm goes off every morning now. It is really strange, but extremely helpful
I got Alarmo for my kid brother and honestly as unnecessary as it is i really enjoy it. The hourly chime for zelda is so good. The sleepy sounds is phenomenal. I love waking up to the talus music because its so good.
Sleepy sounds for only 5 or 10 minutes effectively makes them useless for me since often enough it can take 15 or so to fall asleep. When i put on a podcast to fall asleep to i set it up 50 minutes just in case, really wish that were an option here
I bought it just out of curiosity. I've used it for maybe a week now and I find it to be mostly annoying, and you brought up most of the points as to why. An alarm shouldn't be difficult (or impossible) to get it to do what you want. They need to make it far more customizable. I'll go back to using Alexa with my iPad for backup.
'NFC Alarm Clock' is the most effective tool I've ever used. Will not turn off nor turn down until I've held my phone against the sticker in my bathroom Could recommend.
I got an alarmo for myself recently!!! Been waking with it for around a week or so now, and im honestly super happy i got it :) I've stuck almost entirely with Pikmin sounds and it's helped a lot - Something I dont really hear people talk about too much is how much less I dread alarms in the morning now. Even when it's loud, it feels organic and even. Im getting gently pulled out of bed and celebrated for waking up, as opposed to being unceremoniously shoved out of bed >w< I really like this thing!!! Like, genuinely, I kinda bought it as a joke at first. "Lmaoo check it out I bought the overpriced Nintendo clock" But no, I really love it! The UI is also really wonderful looking and I hope the Switch 2 takes inspiration from the more Wii U styled interface :3
I got one and so far am actually really happy with it right now. Def took a bit of playing with the settings tho. In my case the motion detection was too sensitive and it took slight movement as not only enough to snooze the alarm, but as me getting out of bed. Lowered the sensitivity to the low setting and now it works absolutely perfectly and have been loving it ever since.
Mine came the first day of my Vacation, so I had a few days to play with it. 😁 I was doing work around my house, so I didn't want to sleep too late. It works...surprisingly well. I can't sleep in silence, so I wear earbuds connected to an iPod Touch, with piano music playing. I set Mario Odyssey sounds to Shuffle, and they did wake me up, even with my earbuds in. And one morning, I lingered in bed, checking emails and texts...then Bowser cane a-calling! 🤣 The clock display doesn't bug me at night because I can't see it at all without my glasses. Also, I have a bathroom in my bedroom, and Alarmo is on my nightstand, between the bed and the bathroom. During testing, if I got out of bed and walked to the bathroom, there was a delay before the fanfare and the alarm stopping, but if I walked to the bedroom door, I guess the clock could then "see" I was up and about, and it would play the victory sound and stop. That isn't really an issue because the very first thing I HAVE to do in the morning is go to my kitchen and turn on the coffeepot! ☕️☕️
I can't wait for these to hit retail. I have the pokemon go plus + and it never fails to wake me up although i do fall back to sleep all the time after that first alarm goes off.
I use mine with button move as I can't be bothered to be moving around lol. It is way better than using my phone though as the way the alarm activates is nicer
Hmm... I'm still undecided on this one. I love the idea of it detecting motion to actually get you out of bed, but the sleepy sounds would need to be at least 15 minutes for me
I've been using the Alarmo for about a week and have been pretty happy with it. Like you mentioned, there was a day or two of adjustment and figuring out the right position and getting used to its behaviors. I enjoy waking up to Alarmo way more than I did the obnoxious ringtones of my iPhone's alarm clock. So far it has woke me up gently every morning, as where my phone used to just go off full-bore and startle me awake. I am not a morning person so it always started me off on the wrong foot. I wonder when they're going to dispatch the Animal Crossing and Mario Kart 8 alarms. I'm really curious what they'll be like!
I take it you have to have some type of headboard for your bed? My bed unfortunately doesn’t have this. It’s too bad it wouldn’t work on some type of desk or table next to your bed. It would be great. The only downside is the price.
Bro, I’m not okay with moving my friggin bedside table! I had alarmo as well and it almost never recognized me getting out of bed, due to it being positioned in a way that I am not moving away from it, but more out of frame. But I’m not getting a new flat and new bed just so I can position alarmo in a way that it works for Nintendo. Also, the sleepy sounds are too short, you are right.
I def do love the idea for Alarmo. I can see myself use a gadget like this in the future. Of course personally I would wait awhile to wait for more sound effects to chose from comes in after a year or so. Sounds like the gadget I can see myself using but will wait out for when more sound options come available first. Great review as always Felix and very thoroughly researched.
BRING LONGER SLEEPY SOUNDS 🗣️🗣️🗣️ I have Alarmo and my only complaint is trying to plan out when they play since its only 5 minutes lol I love it otherwise.
According to the FAQ for Alarmo, “[if] there’s something else within range of the motion sensor that moves (such as a pet or an electric fan), Alarmo may confuse its movements with the user’s, leading the alarm to continue sounding even after the user has gotten out of bed. In these cases, the dial can be pressed to manually stop the alarm. Alarmo can’t detect a specific person, so if multiple people are sleeping in the same bed within range of the sensor, the alarm may stop when one person gets out of bed, but restart once it detects there is still someone in bed. The alarm will stop completely once everyone is out of bed.” I hope this helped.
You can always use it as a normal alarmclock (button mode). But for the motion detection you need to walk away from the clock or it will think you're still in bed. It does not ask for the room size. (nor detect it)
Just watching this further proves that as much as you sugar coat and alarm clock, its still not a healthy way to wake up. Also your pain getting up on the last clip. Just no. I have my hatred for my alarm sounds, I don’t need nintendo sounds triggering my awake anger.
I bought it as well but is practically useless for me as I wake up in different times daily so unless Nintendo releases an update I use it only as an overpriced decor
Total cash grab. They wasted years making a $100 clock for people to feel fomo when not buying. Pointless. Ed: probably can run Doom. 3:50 almost like we have other technology that could do a better job…. 5:00 that’s very Nintendo, spot on. 😂
I honestly don't know what's worse. The fact that Nintendo created this useless crap, or that people bought it. It's an alarm clock. Something that every single smartphone does. It's literally useless.
