Hello! I hope you had a wonderful day! I spent the day in my sewing room and on a virtual sew date with friends. Now I get to watch your video while I hand quilt! I hope you have a beautiful week ahead. Thank you for posting this video and sharing your time.
Great info! Thank you for this and for your other video where you break down the cost of a quilt kit for the amount of fabric included. Appreciate all you do!
I signed up for 3 free clubs in March. I only kept one, and cancel the other 2. I really wanted to join their Christmas quilt block of the month, but did the math and found it ridiculously expensive. But it was really cute!
It's so much cheaper to try to find the pattern and fabric on your own, if possible. From now on I'm only doing the ones that are one project and not a continuous project.
THANK YOU for bringing out the total cost of this program. While I do not crochet I find that some of the quilt "block of the month" programs are just as ridiculous!
For me, the cost total to drive to the city once a month (52 miles 1 way... even the closest walmart is 30 miles) buy all the supplies, and pay for a class (videos), I think I would be over $25/mo. Although not live, the video to reference with the written pattern is valuable to me. As for the extra yarn, I'm hoping that I can apply it to a second pattern like the stripe sampler you mentioned. I chose the mandala kit bc I hoped it would be a bit more challenging as I am also a self-taught crocheter off and on for 20 years. I can read patterns, thankfully, but I don't have anyone in my personal circle to ask questions. Thank goodness fit the internet to join us all ❤️. I bought the pattern for the sampler you posted bc this was the one I really wanted! Thank you for sharing.
That's so awesome that this works for you! And that Mandala kit is gorgeous. I could imagine that the video instruction would be pretty helpful for that pattern.
Thank you for your information. I just started Annies Kit Mandela crochet but approx 28.00 a month is way to much for me to afford. I will have to cancel. I did find that the book called Sophies Universe is all about her beautiful mandala and I am going to purchase that book to complete my kit and use my own supply of yarns. If I have trouble with learning the stitches there are so many online tutorials I can follow. Year's ago in before the internet this was not possible but today we have unlimited resources without spending a fortune.
What a fantastic video! I hope your afghan turns out really well. At first, I thought maybe it would be because "yarn shop quality" yarn prices are frequently surprising in the same way that "quilt shop quality" fabric prices are. But nah, that's just obscene. I think with kits you're paying for convenience and for someone to do the work of color selection and materials sourcing, and that is work that should have a value, but not $200! Some of the info you're looking for in the pattern isn't common to see included outside of instructions meant for beginners. In the way many sewing patterns don't give you pressing instructions or finished measurements for block elements, just the final block. It's always a plus when it is included, but it's frequently seen as a bonus.
Yes, I'm noticing that. I normally use free patterns from the yarn manufacturers and they tend to include that info. I know for a BOM project the shipping adds up. But the overall cost here versus what you get and the size of the project was INSANE.
Kits, regardless of what they are, are notoriously expensive. When I think how much I’ve wasted over the years! I think we’re attracted to them because of the ease of having all you need at once etc. I’m lazy I guess 🥰🇦🇺
That price is unreal! I've never done a quilt BOM because they always seem so expensive. This is worse yet. It's a shame the way they try to fool the unwary buyer. Regarding the stitch count, I have crocheted quite a bit, though not lately and I would assume that after the pattern tells you a stitch count, each successive row would have the same count until there is a change at which point they should tell you the new stitch count? That seem logical, but I'm not sure. Enjoy!
This pattern does have changes so I'll have to pay attention. I know BOM's are expensive due to the shipping adding up... but this one was excessively expensive. For less than $300 I got a king sized quilt. This is a youth sized afghan. No way.
I'm a better crocheter than a quilter. Newby quilter...lol. Not ever would I pay that much for such a small blanket. I have paid for patterns, and some are written better than others. I have no experience with Annie's kits, patterns.
