Oh my gosh I’m so happy you like my new home! I have too many decisions to make but seriously can’t work fast enough 😂 Also that archway I wanted to cut in the stairwell wall will connect both of the units as it’s a duplex! Also loving your idea of having the little living room nook be a separate cozy nook and keep the office downstairs! The upstairs dining doorways are also currently being converted to arched openings instead of the flap doors. It’s crazy how on the same “paige” we were… lol I’m cheesy. I agree too the upstairs bathroom is the worst room and I can confirm the bath tub is actually hooked up…. Tragically Come on ovaaa!

I would keep all the bathrooms period. If he wants to restore them, there are a few places in L.A. that make custom duplications of vintage tile. Or, I would redo them in the 1930s style in a different color scheme.

Thank you I really appreciate little antique details in a home don't get me wrong. The whole time I was thinking about how my grandmother 90 hated how tacky the pink and yellow and green and blue tiled everything was! Every one of these comments are acting like it's some kind of sacred item that shouldn't be disturbed even if it's broken. It's all a bit extreme. It makes me laugh thinking that a hundred years from now somebody won't want to tear out some kind of ugly trend we did because it's old or God forbid original to the home.

This place is a beautiful historic home, I can’t imagine debating which color tile to rip out. It’s been around for 100 years and it’s in excellent condition. With care and maintenance many of these features could be good for 100 more years. The older and older many of these features get, the more in style they become. I think virtually any fixture you replace in this home, the replacement will look more outdated in 30 years than the original.

I know Drew talked a lot about wanting to keep the main floor fairly original and do more work upstairs where renovations have already been done. One issue is that not everything original is in good shape. Also, as much as I love to see things kept the same, we all have to remember it's not our house. Drew gets to decide what works for him :) The amount of hate people like furniture flippers get on RU-vid is insane. Ultimately, reused is better than not, even when it means painting something to make it sellable.

Living in a 100 year old home with the amount of tiles and they are cemented in from floor to almost the ceiling!!! Nightmare to work around. Love, love our vintage bungalow home and we are keeping the architectural integrity as much as possible but OMG redoing anything presents a problem. Lol the one major love of our home is this is built like a tank!!! We have the old metal cabinets they are small cool looking but precious owners painted wall paint on them in the hot weather it seems like they are me melting😱 we may have them stripped or replaced. ( WHEN WE DO WE WILL ABSOLUTELY DONATE!!) We will be joining the Chicago Bungalow Association Love the vintage big time but really something's have to be upgraded and Uplifted (this house is secretly working against us on some things)

Just gotta say I don’t think tile counter tops should come back. I lived in a house with old tile counter tops and large sections of grout had come out which meant food would constantly get into the cracks between the tiles. To make matters worse you can’t just patch a small area of grout, you have to remove all of the grout on the countertops and regrout the whole thing. I love the look of tile countertops but I hate the reality of it, at least in the kitchen. In the bathroom it didn’t really seem to be a problem, probably because there’s less wear and tear in the bathroom

My house was completed in 1930. The cabinets and ceramic tile are all original. The walls are tiled floor-to-ceiling including between the bayed windows and in the refrigerator and range niches. I wouldn’t remove them for anything. They actually make the kitchen incredibly easy to keep clean. The tile is a very soft buttery yellow that’s almost a creamy beige. The trim is a sky blue that sometimes almost looks periwinkle. There is also a thin strip of accent tile that goes all around the room that’s blue, yellow, and black. I don’t really like the sky blue that much and would have preferred black trim, but I play off it with my decor by using blue, black, white, turquoise, and green decor pieces. The bayed windows above the sink give me a nice tiled shelf for plants. 🪴

I'm from Spain and I'm always slightly confused as to why people refer to this style as "spanish" - don't really know what part of Spain they're referring to. To me it just feels like "this is what I think spanish houses look like as an american". Like I can see some details that you could find in old spanish houses (stained glass, fireplaces, some of the floor tiles) but the general vibe is just not it. I think if you really want to know what spanish style really looks like you should definitely watch Almodovar's films - you won't find anything more spanish than that.

as a fellow european I agree. There are some "spanish inspired" houses where I went to school in germany and they where called casas and that was already where the inspiration stopped imo. Every material that was used was german and the houses just looked like someone tried to copy something with what he had at hand but not what the source material was made out off? Just makes it look uncanny and off. Plus the house needs to function in german climate which also impacted the overall design.

@@moonbeeps: The Spanish Colonial and Spanish Revival architecture in L.A. is really a unique hodgepodge of Spanish, Mexican, Mediterranean, and Indigenous styles. The homes were built in the late 1920s and 1930s and have discernible Art Deco and Arts and Crafts elements. They are quite different from what’s found in Spain. Some Spanish home exteriors here look good in white, but most don’t, in my opinion. Color often accentuates their unique architectural features. Many have colorful Mexican tile on the outer steps and patios, large picture windows with stained glass accents, ornate ironwork inside and out, hardwood flooring, and glossy, colorful ceramic tile in the kitchens and bathrooms. All of them have terracotta roofing tile. In my neighborhood we have a mix of Tudor Revival, Spanish Revival, Mediterranean, Colonial, and a Queen Anne here and there. The houses being of different colors is part of the L.A. vibe. The interior walls, however, usually have a “cake-icing” plaster finish which usually *does* look best in a matte white. Nevertheless, if I were Lone Fox, I would definitely not paint that duplex exterior white.

And I like the pink and yellow tile, but would update the cabinets, and put rectangular medicine cabinets to match the yellow tile behind. I love the charm of the old bathroom, the old tub faucet handles, soap holders... so cute. I think the biggest problem with this house is the excessive amount of pastel walls and white trim. It makes a lot of the old light fixtures look out of place, especially the dark, moodier, ones. The only thing I would change at all is the curtains lol. I would obviously never choose the tile colors but I just wouldn’t have the heart to take any of that out. It’s so fun and funky. Edit: oh no the renovations upstairs 😭

The olive branch fixture is my favorite, up close in another video it's so pretty!! I would do different shades or just have exposed bulbs because the black is really heavy. That's just me though

OMG! Keep the butlers pantry as is! And, keep the pink bathroom! Both are beautiful as is and so wonderfully historic - keep all the stunning light fixtures too

I agree with staining the beams darker. Also I have a yellow room like that and actually hate it though yellow is a “ cheerful” color. Makes my skin look yellow in all photos and just gives a “ fake” sunshine vibe. The light fixtures are AMAZING. Some need swapped around, maybe.

I went in the opposite direction with the red bounce-back room. I was thinking of painting it a dark green to counteract and almost absorb that red tint...but idk if thatd how it works haha

You can paint tile with epoxy paint. Love the green tile in the kitchen. Love the trim like you said in the bathroom. I would paint all the pink and yellow white!

You always through a curveball with videos, I was totally expecting a tour of your Parisian BNB but was a delightful surprise! Also you should review Drew’s apartment tour. Like his final one before he moves out like you did w/ The Sorry Girls. It might give you an insight on how he will decorate his house.

I love the pink and orange bathroom, and would restore it. I don't love the two toned kitchen tile, it doesn't work for me. Unfortunately, I believe it's extremely difficult to remove some tile and keep others in one area / counter top / wall, but I could be wrong.

The windows look plasticy/pvc-ish? If they are I would replace them with proper wooden authentic ones. Although its very expensive, it makes a huge difference. Otherwise I would keep all of the tiles, I think they're just beautiful and I like the weird colour combos

Yeah, someone really messed up on the window replacements and exterior paint color. They make the house look generic and soulless 😢
@gemstonesparkle7915

In the kitchen's tiles, I would take the yellow ones and put just a simple white marble, it would look seamless with the white cabinetry. In the pink bathroom, I would just take again the little scattered yellow ones, that I think is what it's really messing up the ambiance. I am absolutely obsessed with ALL the light fixtures! I wouldn't get rid of any, I'd rather just gild them with gold foil and it would look scandalous, specially in the yellow room. By the way, I'd change the colored walls for off white tones and beige shades. And I do agree with that red room, specially with a golden mirror as the one in the reference picture. And so agree about the doors, just taken them would be enough. The fun of those old houses is that they had many separated rooms so they could play with them and have different environments exploring colours, patterns, mobiles and even styles, which is impossible to do in those contemporaneous open plan houses.

I don't mind coloured walls but I don't like seeing two colours together. When you can see the colour of the room you're in and you can see into the next room with a different colour. I need white or neutral in-between like a pallet cleanser before presented with a next colour.
