Couldn't agree more on your comments Re. Max Verstapen. Unsporting brat from day one. He has been double moving since he first Came onto the F1 grid. And he doesn't seem to be penalised I the way any driver should. Keep up the work, and good luck with the garage.

Completely agree about Ford. Many other brands obviously think there’s a market for small EVs and I think they’ve made a mistake dropping Fiesta. As for that Capri, yet another bland SUV. Why?

The new Capri is gopping. You can see a hint of the original Capri in the rear door glass where it meets the quarter panel but that's about it. Clearly there isn't (wasn't?) a market for an affordable two door, four seat sports coupé (A5, E-Class, CLK, BMW, Jaaag XK) as everyone seems to want a generic SUV?! Ford could potentially have sold many, many of them to those of a certain generation (like myself) who always wanted the car you always promised yourself...

I don't think launching the Capri in Lego®️ yellow was a eise move. Using the Capri name doesn't bother me, but I think Ford has lost it's way just now....and it may struggle to get back to where it was. They should have something to compete with the brilliant wee Picanto.

North America has had to endure the dilution of what a Mustang was "supposed" to be. The traditionalists were laughed at over their "reactionary" response. I'm saddened to see Europe undergo the same treatment by Ford as regards its Capri. I don't have the figures, but I imagine Ford and Mustang brand managers found brand/nameplate dilution a profitable venture. (Sigh...) Perhaps removing or covering the badges of a Ford Capri vehicle would be telling the corporation "where to go." Me? I might enjoy modifying my hypothetical Capri CUV badge to "Crapi." What can I say? I've grown comfortable looking like (and sounding like) a pillock everywhere I go. Aloha!

Owned two Capris i the past. First car after passing my test was a Capri 1.6 Calypso in Forest green over Strato silver. Great memories

My old 1988 Capri 280 Brooklands - or My old 1980 3.0S in forest green metallic with vinyl roof, fishnet recaros and 4 speed gearbox.. Now they were Capris.. Long bonnet, power bulge, torquey and sonorous V6 engines. I miss them sooo much!

I have a Capri 280 Brooklands and completely understand the revulsion against the new Capri from the fans of the classic … but time moves on … the laws regarding electric cars are horrifically unfair IMHO - maybe a rear wheel drive hybrid Coupé would have been a less aweful reimagining of the Capri

As an ex owner of a capri I think Ford have lost the plot with putting the capri name on a SUV . As for cry baby verstappen he's been at the front for so long he's forgotten how to overtake without blue flags letting him through.😂😂

MV spoilt, Petulant and Prams with toys being thrown about spring to mind. Had patients intervened (but never does) he would have passed LH44 and minimized the points lose to Lando, but he's driving a real Race as if it's a SIM Race until the early hours. He's never been my favorite Martian in race car. Was great to see LH44 cause him to loose points, pity that MV's car wasn't broken and out of the points. I think MCL's decision to swap the drivers round was the wrong 1, but won't know until the end of the season. The Capri, agree with all your comments, should've retired the name along time ago, but that's Ford for you, often living on the pasts pipe dreams. Hey Ho. Problem with Ford is they just slapped a name on a VW iD4 Coupe.... They will definitely suffer with these sitting in the showrooms. They have Mustang plus 2 other similar SUVs... total 👎 A small Fiesta against the Renault 5 and 4 and Citroën E-C3 makes far more sense.

Max's true colours are on show again, now he doesn't have the quickest car. Just like his dad, he drives angry, crashes, never his fault. If I was his engineer, I'd tell him where to go. The team will put up with him being an arse for a while, but it'll wear thin in the end and no other team will touch him because of his silly childish attitude. McLaren messed up a little with team orders, but they're learning, with Andrea Stella at the helm, they'll be fine. The Capri, nothing like a Crapee, as a former "proper" Puma owner, I'm still annoyed with Ford calling an SUV a Puma (and the same with the electric Mustang) The Capri should be a coupe, with a half round side window and a long bonnet. The phrase "The car you always promised yourself" does not apply! Ford have totally misread the market, should have developed Hybrid and Electric Fiestas, cars people want

Ford missed the best marketing opportunity for all electric vehicles.

I don't get Ford's recent decisions to drop the Fiesta then produce a large battery electric SUV that is an insult to the memory of the 1970s and 80s Capri, that many people still remember with fondness. It is almost like they are trying to fail...

Had to go and sit in my 1969 MK1 Capri. This battery car is not a Capri and they should have used another name but it has now enhanced my interest in the real Capris.

I agreed. A bad call by Ford using the Capri name for this electric vehicle. I'm assuming the vehicle is aimed at a younger market that probably won't have any recollection of the original. For those of us old enough to remember the launch of the original in the 70's, this is an inappropriate use of the name.

Great video. Wrt Verstappen, you see people’s true character when under pressure and he lacks the class of previous world champions (eg Schumacher, Hamilton, Stewart, Hill etc). But in a sport obsessed with results, not sure anyone cares. Re Capri, not just use of the name an issue but it’s just another characterless electric box!

I had the pleasure of driving the mk3 Capri from 78 to 81 as a company supplied car. I remember the first time I parallel parked it in town thinking I'd barely had enough space for it. You could have fit another car between the bonnet and the car in front 🤣🤣. In my defence i had only passed my driving test and at 5 and half feet tall could see feck all from the bonnet hump forwards 😂. Best upgrade I had done to it was fitting Koni shocks all round. The only thing Capri in the new model is the rear side windows.

Yes…I have never liked Max V at all…I have never met him of course but I didn’t meet Fangio yet he is my favourite driver of all time…a super quick driver and a very nice man going by all reports I have ever read. Capri….well I was at the Launch in 1969 and the moment felt like something in history. We all knew it was a remix of Ford parts but it was new, different, exciting and inspirational…and even the 1300 did 100 mph! It changed motoring for so many people so using the name on a revamped VW ID4 is deeply shortsighted and a huge clanger by the PR Department. Now have you read Steve Cropley’s comments as he takes the opposite and surprisingly aggressive view..a rare moment when he gets things wrong. Call it the Ford Corsair/ Consul/Zephyr…but Capri is just stupid…and the interior is horrid..a grey box of cheap plastic that feels terrible. Even the FoS Explorer was the same car they had last year with terrible build quality…yet another big flop coming up for the….I hope somebody at Ford wandered to the Chinese Jaecoo display and thought, hold on a minute..the same style and positioning car but loads of tech, a ten year warranty and beautifully made for £30,000…not £57,000!! I have only owned one Ford, an Escort Mexico. Yes I know I am going back in time, but what a blast. I was also fortune enough to drive a Cologne Capri 2.8 Turbo whilst being developed by Broadspeed in Southampton. No that was deserving the name.🤗

Ford's first use of the name Capri was on the Lincoln Capri, which ran from 1952 - 1959. Ignoring this beast there have been 5 previous generations of the Capri: * Mk I 1969 - 1974 sold in both Europe and North America (and perhaps other markets). * Mk II 1976 - 1978 sold in both Europe and North America (and perhaps other markets). * Mk III 1978 - 1986 sold in Europe. * Fox Body 1979 - 1986 sold in North America. A variant of the Mustang which superseded the Pinto based Mustang II. * FWD 1991 - 1994 built in Australia based on the Aus market Ford Laser (Mercury Tracer in NA). I had a 1978 Mk II Black Cat (or John Player Special if you prefer) with the 2.8 Cologne V6 and a 4 spd manual which I bought new in 1978 as the fox body versions were being released, making me significantly older then Ped.😂

Max is an arse, just like his dad. Always has been always will be and clearly his race engineer came close to telling him so in no uncertain terms on Sunday. The Capri, apart from misusing the name seems ok to me, until you find out its a VW underneath based on their now outdated EV platform. No doubt, Max is/was a petulant child at Hungaroring. As it happens, we will be flying into Brussels from the US on Sunday - just too late for the next race at Spa! My Uncle's brother-in-law had a big black 3.0 Capri "back in the day" and he let me drive it as a teen - what a moment/memory! The new one - meh!

Verstappen is just another absolutely brilliant driver. I can't think of many of the very best drivers who didn't act like a brat when things went badly! Not an excuse but it is just the nature of the beast... As for the Capri - I love it! I had four and I can see familiar lines in the new one.

Evening all. I agree with you on Ford. As you said they could have done something very cool with an all electric fiesta. Maybe make it super retro and cool. And why not make an EV coupe and call it capri? Like a lot of manufacturers. They are really struggling to move in to an EV era and make the cars attractive to buyers. Re hashing old names in boring SUVs isn’t going to do it.

As someone who always thought of the Ford Capri as a somewhat Sad car, the new EV Capri is just another electric car produced by a company that has always been behind the curve in innovation, but has been able to mass produce half decent cars eventually. Maybe they should have called it something more sedate, such as 'Esquire'. Why call the Capri Sad? What else can you call a car sold as 'the Sports car for the married man', the 'car you always promised yourself' with the driver standing in front of the car with his wife and two kids.

Without sounding like every other capri moaner ( I could quite easily mind), I really think they've missed an opportunity here. It didn't need to be too close to the original but a coupe or a disguised 4 door to look like a coupe at least. Get it at least looking an interpretation of late model Capri, almost like a resto mod. This would have attracted a lot of interest hence sales. Instead they took a cowards choice of yet ANOTHER SUV of sorts. To paraphrase Matt Damon in ford vs Ferrari " With respect Mr Ford, you can't win races by commitee "........ same thing using iconic names, keep the bean counters on a shorter leash

And it's not the first time even though they had no conflict on the track As for Max he just proves it's primarily the car and not the driver, for this that think the sun shines out of his posterior. Got to agree about Max, he is a great driver but it’s the attitude that puts me off,Sir Lewis has his moments but the way he handles himself is so much better and a good advert for F1. Ford try to use the old names to trade on certain historical successes but unfortunately the new stuff is that exciting. Another great review 👍

I was born on the day the Ford Capri was launched. I'm also an ex employee of Ford of Europe and have owned a string of big Capris in period 3.0S and 2.8i. I am deeply offended by what Ford has done... and I'm not alone. The reaction has been one of universal revulsion. I hope they end up taking a hair cut for this and at the very least rename this VW under something else asap.

Ford are trading on their heritage brands from the past, trouble is that they are only producing bland, uninspiring SUV’s / EV’s. I had a ‘81 Capri and I loved it. Would I buy the new capri, no definitely not.

Pete - fully agree. I have owned 5 fiestas from Mk1 onwards. Small, noble and great little cars to scoot about in. If you look at the Corsa (EV available), it's a template for the possible options for Fiesta. They can be good for round town, and hot versions certainly possible. Given what Toyota are doing with Yaris there are great examples to consider. Sad that Ford are not that brave.

Agree with your views on Max 100%. I've always admired his driving skill but questioned his methods. And let's just say he's not someone who'd be on my Christmas card list. As for the Capri? Do you think that if we ignore it, it might go away? I fear that the buying public might do that anyway. I worked at Ford during the period of Parry-Jones' influence on the Mondeo and Focus and it is sad to see them lose their way so comprehensively.

You are so right. Max has no class and when things don't go his way he reverts to his real persona which is the one we all saw in 2021. Lewis said it was a racing incident, but not Max - he alleged moving in the braking area and was actually pushing for a penalty. What fine sporting conduct. How the people within Red Bull put up with him, I don't know. I thought Ted's Notebook had it right 'Red Bull say it was a racing incident which is Red Bull speak for 'it was Max's fault'!' PS. very bizarre that they dont have a sporty electric hatch on the radar. I have a ST and love it. the only electric that i would possibly consider is a cupra born . Ford only need to make a electric version, that competes with the born and i think they would be onto a winner.

Just like Jamie Whincup, when he was driving for Red Bull in V8 Supercars. He was a dirty driver when he was near the front, clearly incapable of making a position cleanly, without incident. Must be a Red Bull thing 🤔

Agree Re The Dutch driver! however Ford are they not just concentraing on SUV's of various sorts as that is were the market demand is eg Puma ICE was outselling Fiesta ICE so expect an electric puma at some stage

Hopefully you’ll soon have the chance to drive the new Capri and tell us honestly how it compares with current competition. Marketing it is not good to use the name of a Coupe for an SUV. That said I understand the winner at festival of Speed this year was a Ford EV ‘van’.

You can compare Verstappen with Schumacher & Senna, great driver but will always be tainted because of his actions on & off the track. I had 3 Capris in my youth (1.3 l, 3.0 ghia, 2.8i), all 2 door sport coupe's. That new model is an affront to the Capri name. I wouldn't have one if you gave me one.

Completely agree your comments on MV - undoubtedly a very talented driver, but very Schumacher-esque in his attitude, especially with some of the moves he pulls. In spitting his dummy out (numerous times) last Sunday, I do wonder whether other teams might now have doubts about hiring him should he decide to leave RB. Re the Capri, I imagine most of us who grew up with the original regard this new model as a shameless piece of marketing. However, it fails on that score too, as its target market sector probably has no memory of the original. I'm afraid it's just another generic lump.

The F1 at the weekend was very entertaining. I was disappointed that McLaren decided to swap the cars,never like to see this in races,it just made them look a bit silly.On the Max and Lewis incident, I think Max got frustrated and lost the plot.That lunge was never going to work.He let himself down on the radio as well,he needs to remember everything that the team have done for him.He came across as an ungrateful prat.The new Capri is a no no in my view,it just looks like another generic SUV and a bit bland.Look forward to the upcoming kids and seeing how the garage is coming on.

Most car makers are shooting themselves in the foot with regard to EV production; Ford have gone right between the eyes. We need smaller economic ICE cars until suitable alternatives are available and cheap enough for the majority of the public to buy. Production of EV SUVs does nothing to reduce our carbon footprint and is more polluting than keeping older ICE vehicles on the road, just because the pollution happens in another country doesn't make them environmentally friendly.

I commented on a Ford advert on FaceBook "That's a FUGLY, jelly-mould, fat-ar53d piece of crap milk-float" and they wanted to give me a "Top Ford Fan" sticker! 🤣🤣🤣

Agree 100% on everything. I really wish they hadn’t pitted lando first because he was clearly fastest at the end and for me it spoilt his race totally. Congratulations to Oscar but playing this silly team orders ruined the race for me. As for Max, he’s a complete knob! Yes what the hall are ford playing at mind you they didn’t do themselves any favours with the mustang EV so not surprised with the Capri 🤦‍♂️they really could have done something special with both of these legends!

I'll agree re: McLaren. Though, the reason they pitted Lando 1st was to cover off Mercedes, as the win was already covered by Piastri. That way McLaren covered the win & 2nd place, rather than the win &a possible 3rd place. If Piastri was pitted 1st then Lando 2nd. Piastri would've won the race. So I'm OK with the outcome. Re: Verstappen. He is becoming highly agitated now that the competition is closer. But I don't think he is acting that much different than Lewis & Nico back in 2015 - 2016 The new Capri just isn't a Capri in no way shape or form. Just like how Ford has also used the Mustang name on the Mustang Mach E

Ford intend to only have 4 cars in their line up.. they’re concentrating more on light commercial .. Fiesta went because it wasn’t cost effective to carry it on..

Hi Pete, i just cant get excited about formula E, its like a large Scalectrix for kids. None of the noise, smell, sound, theatre of the Grand Prix. It looks like they are always trying to sell this to people and seeminlgy failing given the relatively low viewing/attendance figures. Great 180 though and agree fully on Max Verstappen, such a spoiled child !!

My uncle had a lovely late model capri 2.8i - I only got to ride in it once, but on a fairly decent loop on A286 from where my parents lived to Milford A3 roundabout and back - it went pretty well and sounded nice. I don’t get bringing the name back - not as a coupe but as an suv, or the Mach e mustang. Same applies to that. Sadly vestappen is demonstrating behaviour I abhor - I never like£ him from the moment he started in the sport, as can’t overtake or race for toffee, without having a crash. If he carries on behaving as he is, nobody 8n the team will be behind him and he’ll kill someone with his driving. I think his engineer was right to call him out for being childish in Hungary.

Been a fan of Ford for a long time but rapidly losing all respect due to recent decisions and the new “Capri” takes the biscuit. I’m seriously worried about the brand as they simply don’t seem to know which way to go and it could spell the end for them.

Original Capri. We grew up with it so it has a place in our hearts. Okay in a straight line but the live rear axle meant wet corners were an adventure. New Capri. Meh. Look what they put a Mustang badge on and it sells. Opinions are like a-holes, everyone has one.
