First Look: Naturehike Opulas 3
**Disclaimer: I was sent this tent by Naturehike for free and not asked to make any content. This is not a sponsored video and all views are my own.
With winter approaching I have been on the lookout for a bigger tent offering more space for the winter months. The nights are longer and with the inclement weather there's a real benefit to using a tent with much more space. Whether it's cooking in your vestibule, more space for gear or a good space to get changed out of wet weather gear.
I recently sold my Fjallraven Abisko Lite 1 and replaced it with the Fjallraven Abisko Lite 3 which I purchased myself. This has a lower height than some other tunnel tents and although it does have more vestibule space than I'm used to I was intrigued to try a tent with a full size vestibule and doors.
I reached out to Naturehike as always liked their tents and still own the Cloud Peak 2, and they kindly sent me the Opulas 3. As you'll see in the video, this is a much bigger tent and I have to say on first impressions I'm really impressed. Of course, this is just my first impressions and looking forward to taking this out on a camp soon to give it a real test.
Although labelled as a 4 season tent, yes it's a tent you could use all year around however it's not a true 4 season tent. The inner is almost full mesh and the sides don't go all the way to the floor - 2 things which a 4 season tent needs. However, for me this tent will absolutely work in Winter too...although I wouldn't pitch on a summit or in snow storms.
Once getting in this tent and then into the Abisko lite 3 I'm super pleased with the space on offer. I love it and now makes being in the Abisko feel really cramped and miss the space. Both tents are awesome and obviously the Naturehike is a budget option whereas Fjallraven you're paying for much higher quality materials.
However...what works for you? I wanted to get this tent as I really think it's a great tent and certainly more attainable as it's a third of the price of the Fjallraven. Pop any questions in the comments below of anything you want to know or see or me test and I will make sure I do that when I take it out next.

Did you do anything more with this tent, and if so. How does it hold up?

I’ve owned the tent for about 18mths I think now and used it plenty of times. Tent is great as lots of space and easy to pitch. If you check my channel you should see it on a few videos like the Cumbria way and Dales Way. Can’t really fault it. I’ve made a few adjustments to replace guylines to Lawson Reflective Glowwire as the original snagged a little…plus made them longer, added some toggles for easy adjustment to them and also replaced the mini carabiners that clip the inner to outer. The plastic ones they come with a so difficulty to unclip and detract so replaced with mini metal ones which are great.

@@krisgleave Thank you, I will check out your suggested videos. I have the tent myself in both 2 and 3 person size, but find I tend to leave them at home and favour other tents. So I am going to youtube to get a few second opinions and perhaps a little bit of inspiration, which you have provided. So thanks for that 👍

Hi Kris I've just ordered one and waiting for it to come. I was interested to see how compact you made the fly sheet and inner tent. I have a question about the poles - I'm a cyclist and I wonder about the longest section length (not the pole length but how long is the longest section (they may be all the same) I want to know this in order to think about how I'm going to pack the tent away? Great channel which I've only just come across.

Awesome you’ll love it. I’ll be getting out in it again soon for sure as the Mrs loves this one with the room and it packs pretty small for the size of the tent. The poles are just standard size if that helps. I’m sure you can strap to the middle of your bike if bike packing. I think they’re all the same roughly in size packing wise.

@@krisgleave Thanks for the reply, it has arrived from Ali Express in under a week. I shall try pitching it tomorrow.

@chrisw1090 it’s really easy to pitch and you’ll be surprised by the amount of room in it. Just make yourself a groundsheet for the vestibule. I used window film from Amazon it’s about £8

I’ve been scrolling through loads of reviews for a lot of tents Kris, as I want to start taking my two dogs and I think this has sold it for me, was going to go for the cloud peak 2 but going to go for this one. Thanks Kris great review

Glad it helped Craig. It’s a really good tent and can recommend it. There’s a link in my video as it’s discounted this weekend for Black Friday and Cyber Monday but prices will go back soon. The amount of space in it is really great. Just need to make yourself a footprint for the vestibule

Thank you. Looking forward to using the tent more this year as so much room in it so great when I’m out with the Mrs and not on a summit

I bought the Opalus 3 last week. Looks fine! My wife and I have always slept in a tarp, but now we need more space for our little one year old boy.

@jdnula This will be much better for you all. The vestibule is awesome and with the height you can even sit in a chair in there which is great. When I get the chance we’ll get out in mine again soon.

@@JoEvans1968 They were cheap over the last few days not sure if they’ve gone up now. Just make sure you get something that suits where you’ll be camping and which seasons

H that's why it's taking me so long to decide. There's still loads quite cheap on there. I also quite fancy the Lanshan 2. I used my friends when we camped in the cheviots and that was pretty decent.
@krisgleave
@krisgleave 10 месяцев назад
@@JoEvans1968 Yeah you just need to bite the bullet. Lanshan 2 is okay I just find it can be a bit faffy pitching. The Lanshan 2 Pro has a lot more room I’ve had that too but I really don’t like single skin tents as risk getting your sleeping bag wet.
