Cheers Dan. Aah yes they’re DCF bags. You can get much cheaper even just use ziplock bags but I like these. They’re really lightweight and tough too. Check out Wild Sky Gear on FB I’ve had loads from there. If you buy a few things you get a free wallet sized ones. That’s why I have a few of those as bought plenty in the past.
Great video thanks. We did Llanberis route in the fog on Tuesday .. not to be underestimated, it’s a long way up there and there are several very steep sections. Live Snowdon!
Just found you channel after doing Snowdon last Friday which was Baltic 🥶.going though your videos now for future hikes . Great pair of Dappers what are they ???
Hi Kris. When you said your bag was about 11KG, Is that with or without water? I’m starting it at the end of the month andtrying to organise my bag. Mine is roughly 13kg with 2 litres of water.
Hi Mark, that will be weight without water I think or maybe 0.6L can’t really remember. I don’t count water weight as don’t really carry it as I have a filter. So I tend to top up and drink when I see a water source. I often just carry 0.6L in a bottle with electrolytes and drink as I go. Your weight sounds fine. Honestly the best thing is don’t worry about weight so much. Have a local walk with all your bag packed and see how it feels. Obviously the less weight the easier it’ll be on you. Definitely take a water filter as always points to top up so you don’t need to carry as much then.
Hi Kris I've just ordered one and waiting for it to come. I was interested to see how compact you made the fly sheet and inner tent. I have a question about the poles - I'm a cyclist and I wonder about the longest section length (not the pole length but how long is the longest section (they may be all the same) I want to know this in order to think about how I'm going to pack the tent away? Great channel which I've only just come across.
Awesome you’ll love it. I’ll be getting out in it again soon for sure as the Mrs loves this one with the room and it packs pretty small for the size of the tent. The poles are just standard size if that helps. I’m sure you can strap to the middle of your bike if bike packing. I think they’re all the same roughly in size packing wise.
@chrisw1090 it’s really easy to pitch and you’ll be surprised by the amount of room in it. Just make yourself a groundsheet for the vestibule. I used window film from Amazon it’s about £8
Thanks for this video! I done this solo by accident yesterday when my Garmin died with almost no scrambling experience and I shat myself. Glad to see I chose 'the right' route tho. It was amazing getting to Adam and Eve but I definitely won't do it solo again. Cheers, great video 👊🏻
Well done though you’ve done well on your own. It’s basically straight up but do have to be careful you don’t stray too far left or right as it really gets steep and higher grade. It’s my favourite scramble but also you have Bristly Ridge to tackle after this if you ever return. Thats awesome too and straight after Tryfan in front of you.
Not seen you on the channel for ages mate……hope you are doing ok as I know you said you struggle sometimes …..weather’s better now so get yaself out and do some filming bro, we all enjoy it 👍🏻 best wishes
Cheers Andrew I appreciate the support. Yeah it’s been 4 mths since hiking and struggled to get out but yesterday was the first time out and I’ve missed it. Led a group of 19 guys up Snowdon for their Charity Hike and now with that commitment to get out it’s what I needed to get back on it again.
Hi Jay, apologies I’ve had a little break for YT. How did the hike go? Yes I worked for Bupa at the time as we raised money quite a few times for them.
@krisgleave No worries. Yea it went really well I took my auntie up the Llanberis and down the rangers but their is a path that cuts through the mountains that leeds back onto the Llanberis it was a great walk. A was shocked at how much the weather changes on the way up. One minute it's 18°c next minute it's -5 and snowing
@jaywhitney789 haha yes it does change a lot in the mountains. Typically for each 100m you ascend it’ll drop a degree in temperature and often increase similar with wind speed too. The rangers is always overlooked but it’s a lovely route isn’t it. Great views over the lake and back to the little train station. Sounds like a good day
Sorry to hear that, hope you can still get a little buzz by seeing others hitting the hills and reminding you of your climbs up there too. There’s still a train up there too so a great way to get up there and still get the views of the summits once again!
Hope you are doing well Kris. Not seen many videos off you lately and I know you mention mental health in your videos - I know how you feel as I struggle at times myself mentally. Just sending you some good wishes, I gave you a mention in my latest video. All the best buddy. Jim 👍 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZExvG2AbDio.htmlsi=pMpMBZjJc05LPgoI&t=9m20s
Amazing video! Because of the fact that it visually shows the path but I had one question, why does this path not show the north tower or east traverse path? Is this a different route up? Because it looks alot more manageable less high risk (not that I’m saying it easy) 😂
Hi Rifi thanks for your comment. I always go a similar route up there and think the two you mentioned are just to the side although sometimes I go straight up the north ridge too. I think the east traverse is to the left but lots of videos online specific to those too.
You come down the opposite side and you don’t have the exposure on the other side like on the way up however you will need to climb down rocks too. Once you descend those its paths all the way down past the lake at the bottom which will take you back to the road.
Cheers Dave. Yeah it’s a strange one as absolute love being out I thrive of it and need it but not sure what stops me. I’m going to change things up and start putting dates in the diary and going regardless of weather and anything else. Think it’s the best way as leaving to the last minute to decide often doesn’t work for me
Sorry for the delay but thanks for that Danny. Did you manage to get on the camp with your daughter, if so how did it go? It’s an awesome location and a perfect spot especially for kids as pretty easy and short to get to the top
First time climbing Snowdon for charity in 2 weeks! We’ve been reading into the pyg track however, we’re not 100% sure about crib goch / horseshoe. Do you have to climb that to do this track?
Hi, sorry I’ve had a little break from YT but back now. How did your charity walk go and which route did you do in the end? You definitely don’t have to do Crib Goch or the Horseshoe there are plenty of routes up there like the Pyg, Miners, Llanberis, Rangers and Watkins.
Another great video, really enjoyed that even if it made me feel so cold that I put a sweatshirt on ! Great having Kate onboard, always smiling ...... keep up the good work !
I did the Cumbria Way within 2 weeks of this one finishing. Both good walks and totally different. This is mostly low level but some lovely scenes. Cumbria way is one to just get your head down and walk but epic scenery. Cumbria way was my fave but this I really enjoyed
@@krisgleave I was on the Cumbria way when I commented on your video the other day 😂. 3.5 days finished it at 5.30pm Sunday it was tough my feet are in bits but recovering well.
@adamkoz6358 Well done on completing its a cracker isn’t it. Not the best place to finish but on the whole it’s a great walk. Trust me I know how your feet were feeling, mine were sore at the end of that last day walking 55km. Never again 😂 I sat in the pub before my train with a pint. Couldn’t drink it for about 15 mins as I was literally holding my feet rubbing them as they were throbbing 😂 Not to mention I had to get 2 trains home and then walk hike from the train station and finally got in about 1am 😂
@@krisgleave Jesus fair play with the travel back my mrs picked me up. Toughest day was coniston to derwent water wild camped there. Apologies if I came across a bit disrespectful with the bollocks comment but I didn’t mean it disrespectfully. It was a figure of speech 😂
I didn’t take any. On this route if I remember rightly I don’t think I even took a stove. I sometimes don’t on my long distance hikes if I know I can pick things up on route. Rather save the weight. Easy to buy at shops and snack as you go. I do always take some chocolate and protein bars and haribo to keep fuelled on the hike.
@@krisgleave you’ve got nothing in your bag pal. Listen I’m not being a troll but realistically I think you’re putting people into a false sense of security. If you’d like to discuss this elsewhere rather than your channel then that’s fine
@@adamkoz6358 I don’t need to discuss it or explain to anyone. Watch all the videos and watch others on my channel. Making claims there’s nothing in my bag. Yes…I walked it in 3 days. I have pretty lightweight gear but not the lightest and carried all my own gear. Look at my camp first night and you’ll see the gear.
@@adamkoz6358 no idea now it was ages ago but I carry similar for all my long distance hikes. Only thing that really varies is food. I don’t carry excess as have a filter and only generally use one small bottle for microlights. My tent is 900g. You should learn how to word your comments.
@@krisgleave hi Kris I hope you are well. Digital detox? Did it in 3.5 took way too much gear. Very fit able lad but it was tough I won’t lie. Ended up ditching some gear along the way and picking back up after completing. I hope you’re good ✌🏻
That looked really sketchy. I had an experience like that on Striding Edge in March, but the whiteout conditions were so bad at the top, I couldn't confidently find Swirral Edge and went back over Striding Edge so I could follow my own footprints. Gave up on making a video and opted for a short instead! Enjoying your videos, Kris.
Yeah definitely sketchy looking back but honestly loved it. I remember when I was about to leave the top of helvellyn I thought to myself…what have I done here 😂. Up to that point I was fine I’ve been over striding edge quite a bit in poor conditions and snow solo so fine with it but definitely have to be more careful.
Amazing video... i had my first ever scramble this weekend and it was the north ridge... The photos i took don't do it justice, this video is fantastic!! Turns out I'm very scared of heights but loved the actual scrambling side of it 😃
Awesome well done Helen! Now you’ve done it, has that made you want to do more? If you go back there you have Bristly Ridge too just in front as you descend to put you on top of the Glyders and that’s fantastic too but definitely steeper so have to be careful. I have other videos on here of that one with the 360 camera. Well done though especially for your first scramble…it was the same for Ryan on this one
Watched this video about a month ago followed this exact route up and down even the bit when you was coming down going off track we followed that part was a amazing day and can't thank you enough for this video
Love that! How did you find it? I was back there again yesterday leading a group of 19 guys for their mental health charity although conditions were pretty brutal with torrential rain, thunder and lightening at the start and clag but in the end it cleared up as we were descending so all good.
@@krisgleave absolutely loved it was my first time climbing Snowdon and done it with two friends and we couldn't have asked for a better day plus after all the information from your video we had no worries or surprises as we know what to expect. Weather was lovely and blue clear skys so we was blessed for our first trip there. We hit the summit for half 8 and only had to share it with about 10 people so all around amazing day and it's got us planning our next hiking trip and can't wait for it
Sounds awesome glad it helped and you had a good day. You did it the right way setting off early and it being quieter as mid morning it can get super busy
Did this 2nights ago, got very lucky with a parking spot at that hostel across the road.. not sure if that was allowed but noone coming out to move us on at 21:00 😌
Thanks so my and glad you enjoyed them. I need to get back on my long distance hikes as really miss them and as I’ve had a 4mth break from hiking and YT I need to start them again quickly whilst the weather should be good
That was great! Watched them back to back and now my feet are hurting. Surprised by the amount of road walking on the North Yorkshire Moors - that must have been grueling. But what an amazing variety of countryside this route takes you through. Incredible achievement!
Thanks so much! Honestly my feet WERE hurting haha. My heels were in bits on this hike which made it so difficult. The road walking is certainly tough and there’s a lot of it. The Yorkshire Dales is a lot of roads specifically which is really tough on your feet
Yeah I never use the Trangia though. I have one but far too heavy for me, plus it’s just bare fluid and if you know it over you’re in trouble. I use the little speedster type stoves, I actually make my own as really easy. They have fireproof material in which soaks up the fluid. So still lights and works the same way but if you tip upside down no fluid will come out as it’s soaked in. Far safer.
Here hare here a new sub, great channel mate got a lot to catch up on, good humour and at last someone with personality who is not afraid to be themselves, I`ve watched to many vids that without the scenery I would have turned off, Thanks. I`m building up the courage to do this walk at least before I turn 60. Chin chin👍👍
That’s awesome Dave thanks so much really appreciate that. It’s definitely a walk worth doing k really enjoyed this. Obviously take your time as this was waaaay to quick so you can take smaller legs maybe 15 miles a day and I’m sure you’ll be fine. I know I waffle and talk a lot too and maybe not for everyone but that’s what I’m like all the time and daft and laughing about so just real on here.
What a Fucking awesome video 🤙🤙🤙. That was crazy, 👊🏼👊🏼. Must be harder to video on a scramble like that , when you film yourself then you got to go back for the camera again. Liked and subscribed
Aah thank you and tell me about it haha. You go up and down lots more times setting the camera up but it’s worth it. This is my favourite mountain too its got so much to offer with views, difficulty and terrain it’s ace
Brilliant video kris I've started following you a lot since taking up wild camping mainly. I'm certainly not new to the outdoors I'm in the lake's almost every weekend in the mountains be it hiking climbing and now for the last year wild camping I've never once thought of ticks!!! What tool do you have and do you get troubled with the little blighters much??
Sorry for the delay Dave I’ve had a little break for everything the last 4mths but back now. Awesome to have you on board. Luckily I’ve never had a tick but always take a tick remover with me. They’re just small cheap little tick tools that you can hook under a tick and twist to remove one…that’s how you need to go it. They literally cost pennies and weigh nothing so keep one with you. Just check your body at night especially if you’ve been in grass etc…as they can cause Lyme disease. If I know I’m going through thick ground I usually wear tights under shorts just to prevent any risk. So far so good
I was looking for some good guidance on the Cumbria Way and this is the best so far! Just wondered how you manage to set your camera as you film yourself walking past - notice a lot of other RU-vidrs do it as well. Presumably you do a lot of doubling back to rescue your camera? 😀
Thanks so much! You’ve called it exactly how it is. I only take one camera…sometimes a GoPro or DJI Action 4. And set it up, walk back or past and run and grab it again. Lots of extra miles but worth it
I don’t have the tent now as managed to sell it and pick up an Abisko Lite 3 for the same price which is handy for when I go with my gf. By memory it’s about 1.7KG which is light. It packs small in your bag too and the bags for Fjallraven are the best out there.
Fantastic, I'm visiting in June and I was just going to go straight up and down from Coniston but now I think my first option will be this route, looks superb. Thanks for a great guide.
You’ll have the best time…have you been yet or still going this month? I really recommend this route its great. If you don’t fact the extra mountains, then still head the same direction as mine starts but take the lower track next to goats water and summit Coniston from there and then come down via the mines like in mine. I wouldn’t recommend going up and down by the mines as it’s a much steeper way to ascent. Going this way makes much more sense trust me.
@@krisgleave we had the best time, we got back on Friday after a week of exploring. This was last Sunday, what fun. Thanks again. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RJD0XsOmaV4.htmlsi=5DDhr34AZqlQkoiZ
