Anyone else hate how much has changed from the og Monster High? Cleo & Deuce not together Clawdeen & Deuce possibly getting together Clawdeen half human with no siblings so no Claud or Howleen Cleo & Ghoulia not besties Lagoon not blue Draculaura not super bubbly & nice Draculaura being a half witch Frankie is a they/them instead of a her Sorry but I’m really just not ok with these changes. I thought after watching the movie it’d be more ok with the changes but no it just made me miss the og Monster High more.
It's a reboot, things were bound to change. I'm also angry about Deuce and Cleo not being together anymore, and the Deuce/Clawdeen pairing is kinda meh, but anyways. Clawd and Howleen not being in this gen is an absolute crime and I just realized it. The rest... it's not a revival, it's a reboot, of course it has changed. Also, I think they/them really suits Frankie a lot, It's a really interesting take on the character, and it's not like they stopped being femme or anything, they're pretty much the same as G1 but elevated to a whole other level.
Aww Claud and Howleen aren’t apart of this generation? Man that’s sucks, I always like Claud with his relationship with Draculaura and both him and Howleen’s relationship with Clawdeen. Plus they could’ve gone with a idea of having Claud being a half sibling to Clawdeen as maybe Claud is full werewolf and how that would affect his relationship with his younger sister(or sisters if we include Howleen as a half human werewolf too).
There's nothing wrong with non-binary Frankie or witch Draculaura. The other complaints are valid but you have to remember this is a REBOOT. Not a revival.
I feel that problem with G3 is that this movie, the series and the dolls seem like completly different things one with another, which at least G1 tried to tied them all together and made cohesent narratives in every media so it was all one story and nit different what if (series, movies, diaries, etc.). But I guess we could see the movies and the TV Series/dolls as separate universes.

The most tied in are the Dolls and the TV series but this are also different, I guess is because Nick wants to do what they want with tje franchise, and Mattel doesn't have a creative intervention, now that they have the rights for it. It's a shame how badly they been treating the movie and series as different stories. Tbh the series has a much more interesting story so far than the movie

The show designs are based off of doll designs and the show and movie are separate! Apparently they were given the same basic plot (eg clawdeen being human, draculaura hiding witchcraft) but both teams had to write the stories based off just that. This might not be 100% true though
Frankie carried the whole movie, that's why I was able to bare it enough to watch it (quick note, Draculaura outfit isn't lolita inspired in the film or in the animated series RIP probably a nitpick)
@@kingdomorange2 Actually the most logical explanation would be if Dracula is having some sort of very strict dietary restriction to suppress his constant craving for blood. Which would make him age and look more horrific. But as long as he consumes blood he reverts back into his younger hotness. I remember seeing the 2009 film Daybreakers where the entire world has been overrun with vampires and human blood is pretty scarce. The remaining humans are harvested for their blood. And the vamps who cannot feed on human blood slowly morph into these monstrous batlike creatures.

I still feel this Clawdeen should have been an OC like pull a Winx and say she’s Clawdeens cousin (yea I know that’d also be super annoying) like the Clawdeens siblings thing is already confusing between each generation. They changed her hobbies, heritage,family structure, personality traits and basically most think that brand her as Clawdeen. I guess the series could retcon her closer to a default be it just feels mean to Gen 3 fans that if they like that version they’ll be disappointed by G1 and G2 Clawdeen and book Clawdeen and if G3 brings her more in line with previous versions G3 fans loose the character they like
The movie was good even if the climax was underwhelming. I felt that the film captured the spirit of Monster High pretty well. Would I love a bit more time on explaining some plot developments, yes indeed. However, for what it was, it was solid. The movie and the cartoon are separate continuities which is why Dracula doesn't know that Draculaura is a witch. I also think that Holt Hyde and Jackson Jekyll will appear in the cartoon as some foil for Clawdeen.
The movie is okay. I hope they expand more in the animated show. And at least have some G1 and G2 mixed in there. But the songs were nice. I like the last song. But other than that, I hope the show is cool though
I can't wait for the sequel. I wanna see more of Abbey and Heath hooking up. They hinted at this in animation. They resemble the hotheaded guy and the ice cold gal at the end of the film Sky High. Their like that Katy Perry song Hot N Cold. Kismet!
My biggest complaint is. Abby. She was always such a “Why no one talk to eachother what is with these.. phones.” They made her such a like tiktok pick me up girl. Also ghoula Talking upset me, she was a Mute character

Ghoulia's scenes made me laugh. I wasn't expecting her of all monsters to make me laugh but she did. (I also now want a graveyard bedroom set for her, because her randomly popping out of the ground in PJs, teddy bear in hand, to add her two cents to the conversation before going back to sleep made me smile.)
Jackson and Holt could still return to G3 if they want to. In G1 it is said in the diaries that Jackson and Holt are the Grandchildren of Dr. Jeckyll and Mister Hyde by their mom who has the Jeckyll/Hyde name (Ms. Jeckyll/Hyde), while their father is a Fire Monster. Following this logic Hyde Jr. can be Jackson's/Holt's uncle.
I hope so because I was actually just thinking how interesting it would be to have Jackson/Holt return in this generation. He could bond with both Clawdeen and Frankie as: Clawdeen and Jackson- Both are monster human hybrids and bond over feeling strange about being apart of two worlds and help each other out with that. Frankie and Jackson- Frankie could try to help out Jackson and Holt figure their identities from each other and balance being together as separate people who just share the same body. Plus I can imagine some fun/cute bonding moments like if Jackson into science, he and Frankie can chat about that and become lab partners. Also maybe Holt can introduce Frankie to different music genres since they probably don’t know much about the different types. Bonus: Also if they wanted to kinda return the Frankie and Jackson romance, it be nice now especially as representation of a enby and cis gender relationship. But honestly they could just make them friend and I’d be happy either way.

I think the difference is that werewolves in the MH universe are never fully human, just like in G1. G1 clawdeen and other werewolves and werecats always had ears and tails and fur, they never went _fully_ human. It's weird that they didn't show her turning into a wolf, but both G1 and G2 Clawdeen could turn so the G3 one eventually will, I guess. And the mummy thing isn't exclusive to G3. It comes all the way from G1: aside from Seth, Seth's mom, Cleo and Nefera, all other mummies (notably, Cleo's dad) are more or less covered in bandages. But YES, it doesn't matter that it comes from G1, I agree that they should make it more equal

@@Man-wolf- Mattel can have its own take on werewolves, they don't have to stick to the most popular version. Plus, clawdeen probably can turn into a wolf/more wolf-like still, G1 Clawdeen didn't do it much either, and never in a movie. Werewolves, just like Vampires, don't have some sort of rules set in stone, nor are part of the mythology of any particular culture (unlike say, gorgons being from Greek mythos, that has more of an actual canon), so it's not wrong or harmful at all to change them. But I see we won't reach an agreement and you opinion isn't harmful so, it's okay, we have different opinions and that's it I don't undersand your second point. You said it yourself, it is exactly the same in both generations.
I feel like they switched the personalities of the 3 main characters : Frankie reminds me of Draculaura, Draculaura reminds me of Clawdeen, and maybe Clawdeen is much more like Frankie in the cartoon because the story opens with her starting school.
The snakes on Deuce's head is apparently meant to represent the seven deadly sins and influenced his actions a lot which is what I'm assuming is what his badboy bacsktory was
I loved the movie. It was exactly what I expected it to be, which was kind of campy, kind of cheesy, and lots of fun with a positive message and a happy ending. I like it for the same reasons I like the Descendants franchise, and the possibility of sequels for the live action Monster High has me super-excited. I do wonder why Lagoona got her own poster, though, especially when Ghoulia didn't. Ghoulia had more lines, I'm pretty sure, and more character moments. Not dissing Lagoona by any means. I just think that the lack of poster for Ghoulia is strange. I also downloaded the soundtrack, and personally, I think it's catchy. The amount of positivity in the songs, and the upbeat vibe to most of them make me really happy. It's really good for me when I'm driving to work - again, much like Descendants - because I end up pulling into my parking spot upbeat and in a good mood, meaning I start the day off stronger than I would otherwise. And I am one of the people who got the Paramount+ trial for the purpose of watching this, and rewatching over the weekend as well. (And also to try and see some of the new Star Trek shows, but that's not germane to the topic at hand)
I am using my Paramount Plus trial to watch House of Anubis again but in all honesty, they need to stop playing the same commercials over and over again.
I feel the series will make more sense due to having different episodes, animation literally opens so much that live action can’t. Also the I feel the movie and series take place in two different universes.

Frankie's factual personality side did get a little annoying, but their social but awkward side turned them into my favorite character. They were just so adorable. I could relate to wanting to make new friends but having a terrible time at being social due to never actually socializing. Also, I love how Frankie was the shortest compared to the rest of them. I can also relate to being the shortest.

I thought I would hate the movie judging by the trailers but I just watched it and it was fun! G1 Frankie was kind of boring to me, her personality was pretty self-insert-ish (just like clawdeen now), but I just LOVE G3 Frankie, they're so lovable! I really liked their little facts now and then. But I have to wonder if they're good neurodivergent representation? (as in, if the portrayal of neurodivergence was accurate) Because that's clearly what the intention behind their character was 🤔 Also, as Draculaura said, she is a vampire and a witch because witchcraft is something you learn, not something you're born with (that's why witchcraft is a "human" thing, and why witches are considered humans). It's like saying she's an alchemist or a scientist. Now, I have no clue why she decided to practice witchcraft, but it's not impossible. I do think Dracula accepting Clawdeen that fast makes _some_ sense. I mean, even if he doesn't completely accept her, she saved the school and probably his un-life too (+ Draculaura's). But for Draculaura's witchcraft... yeah, that was way too quick. The movie versions of the songs sound kinda off, but the soundtrack versions are pretty good. I think I overall agree with everything else you said
i can fully appreciate what they’re trying to do, this isn’t an awful movie by any means but as a long time monster high fan well uh this is certainly a movie
i liked the coming out of the dark song and the three of us song! i thought there were some cute easter eggs for og fans so i greatly appreciated that (specifically looking at the abbey and heath exchange!!!)
During the scene changes i would mix up Abbey Bominable Ghoulia Yelps and Lagoona because Frankies skin tone was really bright with sky blue tones instead of the pastel olive undertones. The teacher i first thought was Mr Rotter would be the instructor but he resembles Keiran Valentine and Dracula looks so much like Johnny Spirit. The attitude that Draculaura has is akin to Operetta so it seems that the first day of school was scrambled into the larger crowd of peers who belong to different clubs academic or elective subjects. The story progressed smoothly and the dancing is great. The film is upbeat and not melodramatic because their emoticons are the popular method the students chat to eachother. I had fun watching and wasnt left feeling upset at the ending.

I think it was actually better than I expected. I mainly hate the anti-Slavic sentiment in making Dac and Abbey American. That is absolutely not a coincidence, as Lagoona got to stay foreign (she's not Aussie but still, they didn't make her American), so you can't tell me it wasn't on purpose. Hollywood notoriously hates Slavic people, usually casting them as villains or just as jokes, so to take the two sole Slavs and Americanize them is sus. Also made Ghoulia talk and got rid of her limp. Still wish they used Jinafire or Kiyomi, heck, even Euna from the cancelled MH/EAH crossover for Asians, made a new Indian, used Skelita, Mrisol, or Batsy for latinos. ALSO IMPORTANT: Drac is Filipina in the movie but they made her Taiwanese in the cartoon, which is ignorant and implies that Asians are all the same, so they not only took Romanian rep away, but also can't even make up their minds on what Asian she's gonna be! But I can't change anything about this. My fancasting: I put actressses of the CORRECT NATIONALITIES, and the ones that aren't canonically POC some of them are POC because their races or nationalities can be given leeway. The only problems I have, is that Clawdeen is cannocially not straight... but she is in the movie, Frankie's not Green, & Ghoulia and Abby on the other hand: Their personalities are completely different. Their brain is full of different geniuses, so they'd be smart enough to make the correlation that their body is not 100% certain either! And using 'They' typically refers to a group of people. Clawdeen was never a Lesbian unfortunately, however Garrett sander did agree with the head canon, which occurred AFTER his departure from Monster High’s company, therefore he had no power over the characters at all. Hopefully they will make her a lesbian in this new generation!

At first im kinda not into the new monster high but it kinda grew on me. I love Lagoona, and the fact that she has afew instincts ( like wanting to eat living monsters) that still makes her very sea monster-like, but said instinct doesnt necessarily harm anyone since she remains sweet and overall kind like G1 Lagoona i dont like the ending though, i was expecting a big fight scene? like Abbey and Heath doing something since theyre literally just there plus Abbey tries to be helpful in most monster high movies which makes her iconic or something interesting like Cleo performing incantations too since shes mentioned shes studied that back when she was a mortal. LGBTQ rep was a,,, eh, maybe a 6/10ish. Frankie being nonbinary makes sense but theres no soul to it. Compared to Valentine being gay, theres an actual story on why he is, how he discovered his true self and the accuracy of how he felt when he first saw Spelldon even tho it was vague cuz Mattel is such an ass to Garrett when he came up with the idea. I think i could accept Frankie's identity as a nonbinary if they found out about it later in the movie, like i wish they slipped that in when theyre sharing their secret with Clawdeen, like i wish during those scenes Frankie mentioned how confused they felt that they have the different parts of different historical figures and how they dont want to identify as a male but also not wanting to be female then Clawdeen suggesting that they might be nonbinary and them being like "oh yea!" but yk... its still interesting to see that theyre open about this topic now (i wish they bring back Val and Neighthan, i need my mlm kings) and with the new animated series i LOVEEE Deuce i hate the old male models in MH so much theres barely any diversity in male bodies in MH back then and the male dolls looks so so much better, i think im gonna buy Deuce's doll i rlly admire Gen 3 Deuce
The whole “monsters hate witchcraft” plotline makes me wonder if there’s even a chance we could finally get Spelldon’s full design after all these years. I bet it’d be cool if they brought Val here to make him a literal vampire Romeo crushing on a warlock Juliet (Julian?), but I honestly can’t make heads or tails of G3’s thoughts on queer characters.
I feel like headmistress was more approachable in the first gen. She felt more strict and unlikable in this newer version. Her actress was a good pick though.

About Frankie, please don't misgender them. Regardless of what you think about the change, G3 Frankie uses they/them pronouns. (G1 Frankie obviously still uses she/her, but she's a different character, like from an alternate universe) And yes, their brain was made of different parts of other geniuses' brains! Both male and female parts were used to make Frankie, so I guess that's why they percieve themselves as netiher male nor female. Plus, it's not like non-binary people just popped up one day at the start of the 21st century, they surely existed throughout history, but were silenced and forced to hide their true selves (just like other lgbtq+ people in the past).
@kingdomorange2 here are fun facts that Lagoona was going to have painted legs and arms, but they did not, and Cleo was not going to have the bangs because the actor could not see with her eye contacts but they loved the bangs so they did not give her the eye contacts
I imagine the ending is meant to be the main plot for the sequel coming out later this year. Maybe we'll see more of Dracula in that and why he accepted the witch thing so easily. Maybe he had a wife who was also a witch and he left her because of that and felt guilty about it sometime down the line, after she passed away or something else that made it impossible for him to reunite with her. That's my theory, anyway 😃
I enjoyed the movie actually as an og MH fan it definitely was getting way too much hate it wasn’t even targeted at us nor for us we just so happen to watch it it’s for a new era of kids sending them a positive message you didn’t have to complain about it because it’s different
Mattel had a contract with universal when they made G1 of MH, now they have contract with paramount, so they lost the copyright of the original Frankenstein monster design since universal owns it, which include the green skin and Frankenstein, so now this is not really the Frankie we know, her parents are scientist not Frankenstein, and she got blue skin instead of green, same thing with Lgaoona, she aint the sea monster daughter anymore.
Yeah I think the reason why Frankie is just a person with no gender because if she's made of a bunch of different scientists and she's made of female scientists male scientists and transgender ones
I really liked the movie. It was campy and fun and didn't take itself too seriously, or pretended to be something that it wasn't. The characters felt "grounded", and while I agree that the last minutes were a bit rushed, I can't really blame them to try to end the movie in a good note in case we don't get a second one (Cliffhanger notwithstanding). I hope we get more of Deuce this gen, I really liked his portrayal as his own character. And well, so far it seems the animated series and the movie are only in the same universe in broad strokes, which doesn't surprise me, as in G1 we had like 5 continuities going on at the same time, and I like that some of the things will get better developed in the series, like Draculaura telling her dad about her interest in witchcraft, which apparently didn't happen in the series version of events of the movie, I also hope Mr. Komos returns, his story feels very unfair and unfinished, specially when Bloodgood, Dracula and Clawdeen's mom didn't show any remorse or had any sort of consequences on their part of Hyde's downfall.
Holy hell this has to be the worst movie I have seen. They took a series about acceptance and turned it into pretty much a race thing. I couldn’t even watch the entire movie. They complete butchered monster high.
Yeah this G3 Monster High most of the characters are pretty much racists between themselfs in contrast to G1 and G2 when just a few characters were like this (mostly antafonists), but this is for "the new generation" and for some reason it has to be the complete opposite to Gen 1 and 2. Is kinds strange tbh, specially since they want to teach acceptence to the knew generation of kids but I feel like the previous Gens did better with that (even G2). Is like saying some of this kids are wonna end up being racist/intolerant and that is they just say sorry without learing anything it would be okay by the end.
The movie doesn't seem bad it seems okay I'm not really into the reboot because I know it's not for my age group anymore I'm a teenager but draculaura isn't acting like herself I feel like they grabbed cloetta from the bratzillaz franchise and draculaura from the monster high franchise and fused them together I feel like the more they bring up witchcraft and spells the more I start thinking about Bratzillaz and also why are humans now a problem in the movie ghouls rule they threw a party in the catacombs with hundreds of humans and Jackson attend their school and he was half human I think the only reason why I'm not going to really shame the reboot is because it's not that bad and also I don't want the brand to die again it's just everyone's not acting like themselves they have the name of the characters but the only people that are acting sane and like themselves is Cleo and Frankie and Ms. bloodgood and duce and torlie but everyone else is off one
People who bash this forget that this is just a simple little made for tv kids movie sprinkled with positive messages like finding your voice, being true to yourself and accepting and appreciating others for their differences. Why is that a bad thing? People only see what they wanna see. Look not just with your eyes but with your heart. Just like Beauty & the Beast. Do not be fooled by appearance for beauty is found within. Lest you turn into a miserable, disgruntled and whiny old beast.
No offense, but children deserve good stories too. Remember this is the same network that had the sole survivor of a global genocide crying over his mentor’s bones.
Design wise- I think they just looked overdressed. If this is a monster world that has similar fashion to our world, with monster twist, they still wouldn't be that dressed-up everyday. They looked like they were going to a party or something special everyday. If this was real- you know it would be much more casual.
From what I heard from other people trying to say that this movie would be terrible and stuff I was going to try to give it a chance from the beginning because I grew up with this and I really love it and watching that movie yeah there are some differences but at the same time it was really good though in my opinion can't wait for the new animated series. I just put it as a new Fresh Start for the Monster High world even though we love the old version we change every year month and day we just had to look at it as a new beginning to the Monster World
I think they made a great job, recreating this 2000s concept for a new audience, with new values. We could never have a non-binary character back then, and now we have frankie, who is also a genius. the 3 main characters are different enough that a lot of kids can relate to a least one of them. I think we should be supportive of the movie so they can improve in the future and create more modern fantasy content for teens.
I probably won’t watch the movie as I’m more interested in the series, but I’m glad to hear it’s not all bad and that there was some good parts of it. I do hope with the series they take some opportunities for character development with our main cast and have both new and old characters that are work well into the world too. Personally for me for G1 characters I would like to return whether just because I like them or think they can have interesting stories in this new world are: Jinafire Isi(okay I just really like her design and that’s why I want her to appear) Jackson/Holt(though they’ll have to make him fit with Mr.Komos most likely as a relative to him) Skelita and Claud and Howleen if they haven’t been deconfirm in universe to exist Any of the hybrid kids from Freaky Fusion
the movie is going to have a trilogy! i don't think the animated series is connected to the movie but don't take my word for it. Tara @MonsterHighLuvMe has a video covering this topic i also thought the end was bad. the last 20 minutes did not need THAT many characters because they didn't do anything
@@iheartbunniesteehee Well, it's not like the movie is made by one person, watching it not legaly meens than you are also not reconizeing the work of probably hundreds of other people who worked on the movie. I also never judge a product by its creator, a bad person can make an exelent prodouct just as a good one can mke a terrible one.
I really couldn’t vibe with the musical numbers I love musicals but I wish this wasn’t a musical. I couldn’t connect with the songs & I can clearly see who were the dancers of the cast & who were JUST actors in the cast.
im glad that monster high is back but is this my favorite movie? no. it's one of my least favorites i just hope the new animated series would be better than this lack luster film
