Marine Corps video clips used in this video are from the Marine Corps Basic Training documentary "Ears Open, Eyeballs Click"
In this video I talk about why I joined the Marine Corps, what I did in the Marine Corps, and how to prepare for boot camp.
A sample program is included at the end of the video. This program can be used for any military branch.

Allen, served in the Marines in Viet Nam. What I found most interesting in the segment was mention of tour as body bearer. Post Marines worked in funeral business often bringing Marines to rest in Arlington National Cemetery. So chances are good that our paths did cross. Semper Fi, brother. In bootcamp, I was a weakling. It took me a year after bootcamp to become a stud. I was a regular 300-PFTer after that. People have no idea what kind of heart they have. USMC bootcamp will give you a very good idea. If you were company honor grad, then only fellow Marines know what that took. Respect. You're dead-on about training to be a sub-18 minute 3-miler. You gotta go fast all the time for as long as you can. When I went for runs, I freakin' ran. If I wasn't feeling particularly strong that day, then I cut it short, but I never went slow. I also did the sprint the straights and walk the curves thing on a track sometimes. You gotta get to where you're relaxed while hauling ass.

He's really strong, deadlifts 545 lbs max after a little less than a year out of the army. He runs every time he lifts, for 1 mile, 5-6 minutes, keeps his size and strength, and I run with him. cardio is good for your heart and muscles. woudnt mind Thrall spreading the wisdom of it.

Great video dude! Especially the first part, holy shit you were in my head when I was 18. My best friend had already left for the Marines, I was a directionless, defiant, lost mama's boy. Couldn't find a job I liked, or keep a job for very long. My buddy came home from his A.I.T. and I was floored by; how he acted, how he got treated (he was even more of a fuck up than I was before he left), and how much pussy came out of the woodwork for him. The night he was leaving, my fuckin battery in my truck exploded, had a shitty night at work (3rd shift shit job), almost got into a fist fight at work, bla bla.... Got out of work at 7am, got my dunkins coffee, and was waiting parked in front of the recruiter's office when they opened. The rest is history. Our government may have it's issues and challenges, but our military fucking rocks! Uncle Sam straightened me right the fuck out (with a quickness), best move I ever made. 8 years active Army Engineer. retired Sgt, 62E20, promotable. Got out before I got my E-6. Great tale brother! I ran track in college and used to have chiefs tell us to run 3 miles two times a week in prep for a 1.5 and when I told them it just trained you to run a slower pace and made it harder to pick up that pace when you needed to they would just not listen. It is good to run two to three longer tuns of no more than 5 miles 3-4 times a month.

So I'm guessing someone forgot their general orders while on firewatch one night and paid a heavy price for it. Yes? 1. To take charge of this post and all government property in view. 2. To walk my post in a military manner, keeping always on the alert and observing everything that takes place within sight or hearing. 3. To report all violations of orders I am instructed to enforce. 4. To repeat all calls from posts more distant from the guardhouse than my own. 5. To quit my post only when properly relieved. 6. To receive, obey, and pass on the sentry who relieves me, all orders from the commanding officer, officer of the day, and officers and noncommissioned officers of the guard only. 7. To talk to no one except in line of duty. 8. To give the alarm in case of fire or disorder. 9. To call the corporal of the guard in any case not covered by instructions. 10. To salute all officers and all colors and standards not cased. 11. To be especially watchful at night and, during the time for challenging, to challenge all persons on or near my post and to allow no one to pass without proper authority.

I too entered the Military under the body program. My buddy was that little voice in my head that constantly nagged me about being a lazy booze hound, and that I should do something that would challenge me and make me proud of myself. My family on my dad's side were all Navy, except an uncle that was like you...a Marine (he was in Vietnam, my dad was in Korea, the youngest of the 3 brothers was also serving during Vietnam and my grandfather was actually at Pearl Harbour when the Japanese launched their attack). I decided that....I was going to be in the Infantry....and enlisted (as did my grandfather, dad and uncles before they could be drafted and not have a say in where they would serve), did all my testing, physicals (although there were weight requirements, there was no 3 pull ups involved) and such....kissed my wife goodbye, boarded the jet (first time on 1 at the time) and headed for Ft Jackson South Carolina for Reception, as you now know, into the US Army Infantry School....which by the way involved a long assed coach ride from Columbia South Carolina to Columbus Georgia.....Ft. Benning! I was the ripe old age of 22 (I was the oldest damn Recruit of our Cycle.....most of the others were still teenagers! Those bastards called me grandpa!. Joke was on them as most of them ended up recycling because they couldn't shoot straight, or were not able to do all the PT requirements...or they were just flat out sent home, never to return). That was also in 1983, before Basic Training/AIT in the Army turned into a health spa. The Marine Corps has never lost their identity. I made 1 huge mistake, which I tried to rectify upon graduation and returning home. I joined The Oklahoma National Guard. I realised that I really loved the Military and I wanted to go into the regular Army. I was told I couldn't due to the OARNG forking out all that money for my training at Ft Benning. I had to serve at least 4 years in the Guard. I was in a great Unit though....we were Mechanised Infantry Scouts (Combat Support)....just like on the TV show The Rat Patrol. I was a Jeep Gunner (no Humvees yet), until I became an E4 and I became a Jeep Driver....both were very exciting! By the time I did 4 years we had 2 beautiful daughters and I decided to stick to being a part time soldier BUT, I did leave the National Guard and joined a Training Battalion in the 95th Army Reserves. I went from State Militia to Army Reservist. My new job was....a Drill Sgt!! Our entire Company was Drill Sgts (well we had to be Drill Sgts in training first lol). I so wanted to get my Stetson Campaign Hat (Brown Round)! I was already slotted in an E5 slot and I was inches from my hat (even to the point my head was measured and hat was on order) however.....life came back and bit me in the ass!!! I had a bad injury on my stupid civilian job, that took away my dream. I had to be discharged. I was actually Honorably Discharged by the National Guard and the US Army Reserves lol. Man I must really be bored to write all that lol...I apologise.

Hey, I wanted to thank you for this video. After being laid off from a good job and having one now that I am not very happy in, I have decided to finally get into shape and do something I've been considering for a long time, join the military ( decided on Navy). I have lost almost 50 lbs through powerlifting and CrossFit and I love both, but now I am at a point where I need to start running, and this video has some great starting points for me. Thank you for this video and others on your channel.

This guy is talking about intervals, the best way to better your endurance. It's better to slowly jog than to walk, but it's even better to have a bit a of a fast pace while jogging, and then you start to Sprint. These are called fartleks. Another workout would be Indian runs, where a group of men in one single column would run around a track at their 10k pace (10 kilometers), about 6-7 min per mile. The last guy in the line would sprint to the front, and on and on and on. Sprint, jog, repeat.

Many years back I wanted to run a 5K in under 20 minutes. For a non-track guy I thought that was a reasonable goal. So, I did the kind of interval training similar to what you suggested in your video. I ran the race so hard I thought I would die but the good news---19 minutes 38 seconds! Thank you for your service sir and the excellent advice you give us!

Alan, can you critique my alpha male, not bald, full body chair routine? Chair rows Chair dips Chair holds Level pulls Chair press Deadchair ATC squats I do 1 set of 3 reps, once a month for each lift. I rest 10:02 between sets and chronically overeat calories to put on more muscle than any natural on Earth. That's just a simple reality.

I mean, you look at that clip of the three officers screaming at that one recruit and you have to imagine his friend made the right call. If you want to be psychologically stripped down so that the military can make you a "good soldier", then all the power to you. I'm not into kink shaming, so have at it, you weirdos.
