I occasionally venture into Rotherham. Barnsley by comparison is posh. Sorta the London equivalent, by comparison, of Tower Hamlets to Twickenham. Certain areas of Rotherham you have to smuggle in copper tube under cover of darkness, post a notice on empty houses "all plumbing is plastic... so bugger off! Please nick the lead off the roof instead".

Another good one HG, very informative. Loved the tool roll!! I must get one. You should’ve the Knipex Cobras mate, they’re quality. I’ve got a big FatMax bag for my Breakdown/Service Tools, but I’m going to follow your lead fella👍 An old boy told me when I was serving my time; put tape on the tools you use daily & don’t carry the rest around in a toolbag, put them in a toolbox in the van. Oh, I didn’t see a syringe & silcone hoses for testing a APS?? I know there’s not as many APSs around now, but still handy!! Great mate, I look forward to the next one👍
@HeatingGeek
@HeatingGeek 5 лет назад
I do have a syringe and tee piece for testing them but never use it. And I do mean NEVER. The only boiler that regularly has APS issues is Baxi ,Main, Potterton combi HE and it so regular I just replace it. Vokera's are always Venturi related issues. I only got the tool roll for the bike but liked it so much I kept it for everything.

Should do a video on essential van stock, what fibre washers/O rings do you carry I'm sure you've mentioned this a few times but not at great detail, I have a bad habit of not carrying spare washers etc and I'm usually lucky to be able to reuse or order them up when I have to order parts but there will be a day when I need a washer and have to waste time getting one, what sizes do you typically carry or do you have a link to a good pack? I found a pack of fibre ones but they're red and I am sure the colour means something or I may be wrong.

What advice would you give someone starting out. This is the sort of career path I want to do. I’ve just started out for a employer so all abit new. Doing mainly new builds fitting rads and sinks etc. Hoping to get my level 2 nvq this year sorted. Cheers
@HeatingGeek
@HeatingGeek 5 лет назад
Just go for it. Don't walk out of a job unsure of whats wrong. NEVER guess. It takes time to learn the "Logic" of a boiler. So don't worry. Try to get on with a council or housing association doing service and repair. If you don't do it soon you will become trapped by the money you earn on a site and have to take a pay cut to learn repair. (I did this).
@joneth781
@joneth781 5 лет назад
HeatingGeek I was hoping to carry on with the basics for a bit longer get my nvq 2 done. Then I can do courses then as I can’t at the moment with out the nvq. Plus I would need my gas safe to be done aswell. Be couple years before I can touch any boilers. My employer doesn’t do servicing or anything like that just mainly installs. I’m watching as many videos as I can just trying to get it all in. What sort of certificates is best to have?
@HeatingGeek
@HeatingGeek 5 лет назад
@@joneth781 I don't know what you mean about best type of certificate. ACS? You may end up stuck in your job If you don't move on ASAP once you have NVQ level 2 done. Install (site work) to> service and repair can be a difficult step to make unless you do it early, when you're not as use to the money.
@joneth781
@joneth781 5 лет назад
HeatingGeek is it just acs then what you need? Thing is I’d have to learn it from someone wouldn’t I? Or just go out on my own? Obviously no experience in fault finding and servicing and going on my own would be quite difficult. My wage isnt that great as it is now so haven’t got much to loose in that way.
@HeatingGeek
@HeatingGeek 5 лет назад
@@joneth781 You have nothing to lose now. You will not need technical ability to pass the ACS. The only fault finding is on safety devises and they will train you on them first.

That Testo manometer is crap. I hated mine. Could not trust the readings. Readings would fluctuate based on whether you were holding it in your hand or attaching it to metal with the magnet. There are much better digital manometer out there for less than half the price, they might be slightly larger in size but I have to be able to trust my readings.

This is my second one and I only have this one for the size. I do trust the readings but I hang it and zero it then use it. Have you tried the bluetooth one. A mate of mine highly rates it but Im not sure.

HeatingGeek see I only trust a liquid manometer.... the only time I ever used a digital one, it fluctuated so much and surely it has to be calibrated regularly? The liquid can’t lie or go wrong.

And you can never go wrong with the Good Ol Yellow Jacket analog manometer. It will give you accurate readings forever.

That wera multi screwdriver is one of the worst tools I've ever seen. Perfect for firing a dart straight into the scalp of whoever is working below you...
