i loved when Maggie broke free of Barnabas' spell and tried to kill him in his coffin, and at the last second woke up and glared at her, always gave me chills. And NOBODY screams like Kathryn Leigh Scott lol

favorite show as a child! ran home after school to watch. Favorite scary moment when Willie lifts the coffin lid. Best opening song

Another really frightening scene was when Angelique caused Sam Evans to go blind. It was a horrible fate for an artist like Sam

I've been binge-watching the entire series (purchased the full DVD set). Started a little over a year ago, and am up to episode 755 now. I have to say your first choice (Matthew Morgan holding Victoria Winters captive in the Old House) was a very apt selection. Thayer David was perfect for the part of the lunkish and menacing Matthew. I actually think the black-and-white episodes were the creepiest. (There's something about the stark greys of black and white that is especially atmospheric when it comes to horror). I also think the sequence where the ghost of Josette steps out of the portrait in the Old House was pivotal for the show. It was the first time that the audience really saw that DS had passed over to the paranormal. There are no other characters present, so it is you--the audience---that are the only witnesses to this eerie scene. Including the ghostly sequence where she is dancing outside the house in the dark night. Another scary sequence was where David locks Victoria in a room in the deserted West Wing of Collins mansion. But the most DISTURBING scene (as opposed to scary), is where a 170-year-old wrinkled Barnabas puts the bite on Carolyn Stoddard. "I could never hurt my own flesh and blood", he tells her. Now THAT was probably the most bizarre scene in the entire series. Thanks for posting this!

The scariest one that we have seen so far is the dead body of Jeremiah Collins!

That Josette s short white high heel shoes even looks very eerie, scary and even bloody creepy

When vampire Tom Jennings appears from the dark corner in the basement to attack Julia. To me, he was the scariest vampire on the show. Absolutely gorgeous man, but scary vampire.

Not as potent as it was when watching as an 8 year-old in 1968, but still effective.

Don't forget the terrific special effect when the ghost of Josette Collins steps down from her portrait at night in the Old House. Before it was restored. Sometimes the special effects didn't always work, but this one was excellent.

For me, even as a kid, the number one scariest thing for me was being so tense waiting for poor Frid to flub his lines!

Robert Roman as Adam was so effective here. Sort of pitiful and sad as a character. Like he wanted something but had no way to tell anyone what.

I, too, have the whole series. I was a graduate student at Orono when it was on the first time. My last class ended just in time for me to dash to the Bear's Den to watch.

You included my scariest scene- with Laura Collins! That is when I first tuned in during a sick day in winter..I was 13 and she really scared me, but in a good way!

They have not shown any of the episodes regarding Dr Lang and Adam on decades tv yet!

As a kid in Elementary School I watched D.S. in 1968 and around the time the werewolf was on and it put a scare into me but I kept watching it for awhile after school and then picked it up again in 1976 from summer break in High School on the episodes with the Collins Family in 1967 before Victoria Winters went to 1795. In 2008 I purchased all 1,245 episodes in 8 months other scenes I thought that were bone chilling was the episodes with the Leviathans. The east wing room that was dark, vacant and would change to a lit up fully furnished room with counterparts in Parallel time Collins Family Members. Then Barnabas and Julia escaping 1970 Parallel time and winding up 25 years into the future to find Collinwood abandoned and in complete ruins in 1995 where they first went up against Gerard Stiles before they returned to 1970 real time.

No wonder that Roger Collins and Carolyn Stoddard wanted to get David Collins out of there and send him away. Especially because that David has to go through all this terrorizing mess he has to go through, both in Collingwood and at the Old House.

Never forget they were great actors that's what made everything believable.

I' m sorry , but the werewolf face is just funny. A sort of cheap Carnival mask. My favourite terror moments : Barnabas and Willie. Barnanas and a kidnapped Maggie Evans. Reverend Trask and his dear wife Minerva' s School for scared and hungry xhildren : Dickens would be scared of them .

But poor innocent Victoria Winters. She's now really got herself into it. And that is, not from that ol' trashy Trask, but instead from that really wicket witch, and that is from Angelique Collins.

Now this time she had trick Jossette Dupre in heading to widow hills, as well as tricking Barnabas Collins into that same place with her, and that is in causing Barnabas Collins to get Jossette Dupre to jump off of widows hill. So in that case, what and how do you've described Angelique such as??!!!: evil, cold blooded, tempting, seductive, sexy, enticing, immoral and alluring.

If Barnabas can turn into a bat, as he sometimes did then why din't he leave the coffin?
