I always feel guilty and embarrassed when a plant starts going downhill (or in the case of ferns goes rapidly downhill) but its nice to see not everyone is perfect at caring for plants. We’re all learning together

Yes put the Brandtianum on a pole! I got mine last year in fall or winter from Steve’s Leaves with all big beautiful leaves and it was like a fake plant forever because it never changed. I heard to avoid small leaves to put it on a pole so I recently did. When I put it on the pole it was growing it’s first baby leaf and it didn’t like the move even though I was gentle because the baby leaf died 😭. It’s currently growing another leaf on the same spot so 🤞! I would also suggest putting the adansonii on a pole eventually because it’s got big beautiful leaves and you probably want to keep it that way. Mine did not have such big leaves to begin with but started putting out a bunch of smaller ones so I poled it also. I’m not sure if it worked yet and thankfully shows no signs of stress. You are obviously experienced in poles but these are my two cents for those plants and hopefully your plants don’t freak out if you pole them 😁!

Aloha Becca, I think you're right in your diagnosis. It looks like its under watered, not from root rot or pests. I'm assuming it's getting enough light?? The mystery is the new growth. Perhaps you changed something in the watering and it said, "Whew. Finally, some water. Let's have a party!" LOL

I’m so glad the Philodendron Mamei made the list! I got a little baby for cheap and it’s already pushing out a new leaf at a rapid pace. My Adasonii has been growing like mad ever since I’ve repotted him into a self watering pot. I do hate the spider mites though! I routinely spray it down w neem oil and he still puts out new leaves. He is kept away from my more expensive collection though…bc of those damn mites lol

I would suggest cutting the monstera peru back to maybe one or two nodes, even if it's left a stump, and then propagate every single node. The leafless ones in a sealed container with moist sphagnum moss and the ones with leaves in water. I've had problems like these in the past, mostly on ficuses, where they just start dropping leaves, and then i cut them down to a stump or the few young shoots coming up further down, if they exist at all. It's how i saved my mother's ficus from being thrown away out of leaf-dropping induced rage.

So I am here over a month late - new subscriber hello! - but I am wondering if your Brandi has an infection of some kind? This can cause all of the leaves to drop off of a plant. Usually the lower leaves are affected first and drop off (although if it has flowers they can be the first sign, followed by lower leaves), slowly moving up the plant. You may notice some yellow spots too on the leaves before they just drop off.

How did you get your Monstera D to climb with such long stems. I have one and the stems are all different length which makes it hard to tie to a pole.

"My 3rd fittonia, no 5th, no 8th" that gave me a chuckle. It's so interesting seeing how some plants are easier in some countries and harder in others. English ivy, ficus elastica & monstera (tho I think that's easy everywhere) I find easy to look after. I killed a lipstick plant and am still baffled why, pilea cadieri, baby's tears were impossible to figure out for me, RIP. 😂

😂😂 I’ve lost track! Yes definitely depends on your region what is easy and also what is accessible. I’ve never had a lipstick plant.. I’m not sure about them!

Hi! Why do you use orchid pots (plastic), and where do you buy them? My easiest plants are tradescantias, Zz's, philodendrons, certain sansevieria, my aglaonema Maria, cast iron plant and pothos. The divas red siam, red emerald agleonemas, marantas and my peperomia obtusifolia (which I finally think I've figured out). I've killed snake plants, calatheas, pileas and all other draceana. My arrowhead illusions are SO dramatic...🤦. Still love my plants 🌱💚

What do you think your problem with the adansonii was? The mites? Asking Bc mine just kept getting yellowing leaves that wanted to fall off and browning tips too which is confusing. So I panic put it in water and now it’s thriving 🤨 Does this mean I was under watering? Or is it just growing season saving me? Hah
@BeccaDeLaPlants
@BeccaDeLaPlants 4 года назад
Yeah I think it was definitely the spider mites this time. But previously, I’ve had issues due to lack of humidity which sounds like it could have been your problem too! Agh who knows, really, adansonii kill me 😂

I have a bunch of calatheas that are thriving, even though I pay no attention to them with humidity etc., this seems to surprise people. But I can't manage to keep a simple thyme plant alive in my windowsill garden!

I have almost killed my Hoya carnosa compacta so many times. I get the light wrong and it turns yellow or the leaves shrivel up and it half dies🙄! I gave it too my mom and she has no idea what it is but somehow it thrives with her I don’t get it, but for me not an easy plant

Agh I can’t figure it out! It’s not very vocal. I had mine in a greenhouse for a very long time to recover and I’ve only recently taken it out. It gets super dappled morning light + I water when it’s 100% dry! Probably not the right care and I’m sure she’ll end up back in the greenhouse 😂

Ok, this video gives be hope because I’ve been refraining from getting some of the more harder to find (in the US) philodendrons like the Mamei because I didn’t know if it would adapt well to my plant set up and if it would be too difficult and needy and now I feel like I can definitely take care of one!👏😊 @beccadelaplants
