So I’ve had a few peltis for over a year now and in my experience, they will not grow until they have roots. Once rooted, they’re quite easy and steady growers. What’s worked for all my pelti props is water propping. Clean the chonk up a bit and then just sit it in water for like 4-6 weeks and you should get some growth. After that, transferring to whatever substrate you’re comfortable with is usually seamless. I’ve had no root rot issues whatsoever with a pon, pon/perlite, tree fern fiber, ABG mix, etc. With the anthurium debile, it’s been happy in my prop box with no air flow and in spag/perlite mix. I do believe the specimens from Ecuagenera and Ecuaflora are debile aff though (not specified on their website but through lots of questioning on anthurium enthusiasts. Don’t quote me on that though 😬😬) and are actually easier than sp. Philo lynnhannoniae does really well in 90-100% humidity, next to a drafty window, and in moss, tree fern fiber, or ABG mix. I keep mine in a terracotta pot in an exo WITH a leca bottom and water reservoir, closed top, and reptifogger. That and anthurium splendidum seem to do really well with that setup. Do I recommend for anyone? Probably not 😅
@elizabethmccone7980

Btw, I know you didn’t ask for debile or lynnhannoniae tips BUT when I first started collecting them there was like ZERO info on them other than people warning others to not get them. I’m hoping this is somewhat helpful to anyone who comes across this same issue and still wants to get them despite the warnings lol

Thank you so much for all this raw info!! I’m going to clean that pelti chonk and get it going in water ❤️ you’ve given me hope! My debile seems to match the description (obviously other than inflo), but who knows 😂

@mads.arnautov 2 года назад
What size exo do you use? And what does drafty window mean 😅; I also have not found much info at all on lynnhannoniae except to stay away, and it'd be really nice to know something that works!
@elizabethmccone7980
@elizabethmccone7980 2 года назад
@@mads.arnautov I have exos of different sizes, none as large as @unplantparenthood’s though 😅 Drafty as in what is like the oldest window in your house, where you can feel the night chill creeping through (we’ve got many of these) 😂 away from direct sunlight. If you have your AC on, somewhere by that would even work lol. Additionally, ZooMed has since added the Repticooler to their line. I don’t have any experience with it, but am thinking of getting it once I move. My lynn lives in a tree fern mix (similar to ABG, but I’ve also use pure sphag in the past with positive results too), leca at the bottom, in a terracotta pot. The substrate stays wet and the lynnhannoniae hasn’t minded wet feet in my experience. Honestly doesn’t even care about air flow that much as long as it doesn’t get warm.

I just got a pink Princess about a month ago and I am struggling with it. Even though it has about 5 new leaves, it has already lost about 10. It’s just impossible to understand what’s going on. I’ve heard it could be the water, the light, the mulch… so I really don’t know how to make it thrive

I dumped my PPP along time ago haha, it just turned into a burgundy poopie plant. So sad, because I kept seeing so many pink ones on instagram. I gave up on it quick, but haha I don’t regret it. Won’t be buying that one again. Now I gotta rethink getting a Thai constellation. :T. Thanks for the video! Always fun.

I have the same struggles with raphidophora, though currently my happiest plants are my Thai and my Pink Princess. I’m using leca in net pots with a wick and they are outside in ambient. The ppp has not had problems with leaf opening though I wonder if that is just the specific plant I have, its leaves got really large and the stem huge and it’s being held up by a few sticks and no moss pole. I use the nutrient solution by HakunaLaPlanta. I’ve had leaf struggles on other plants but not that one. So maybe ambient and leca? I water it every two weeks or if it’s Iow and it’s huge and I’m scared to chop it, in case it messes up why it’s happy…. Oh and the Thai has a very open net pot with bigger leca and I think that’s why it’s happy, it’s a tc plant for reference. I cannot keep an Alocasia happy for the life of me though.
@TheHawaiianPanda1
@TheHawaiianPanda1 2 года назад
I’ve noticed that some plants love pon and some love leca, but some HATE pon or leca. I had very little luck growing any monstera in pon, but have had a ton of luck in leca. Maybe try swapping them and see how it goes?
@botanicassie
@botanicassie 2 года назад
Take your monsteras out of the tent. They will grow. I had both of mine in a cabinet and they grew but I could see water marks on the leaves and especially by albo. I took them both out after advice from somewhere and I think they’re both liking it much more. Both of my ppp (one in a cabinet one out) have sized up quite nicely but the leaf sticking thing hasn’t stopped. I usually watch pretty closely with those so that if they start to get hung up I can save them. But they do this weird thing where just the drip tip of the leaf like rots off and then it opens up and has great color but looks like I tore the tip off. 😅 not sure why? Not all of them just a few. But on both plants. Shultz gives all of my variegated plants great color.

IMO having and propagating PP I think the ones you showed on IG are cutting from a very mature leaf , I ordered one large leaf unrooted leaf for that reason off Etsy and the seller upgraded me to a rooted smaller plant which in her store cost more , she’s in NY has lots of PP options , I didn’t have the ♥️to complain lol Maybe I’ll try and specially ask for the biggest leaf u can give me .Or it just takes time I’ve seen people grow them huge in one year and I’m blown away .

My Melanochrysum did that to me, the stem kept on growing and growing like a vine when it was growing indoors. What I did was put it outside (south facing outdoors) where it gets bright indirect light all day and where it’s a little windy. Viola, 3 weeks after the long vine started pushing out new leaf. My friend who owns a lot of big Melanochrysum told me they like a lot of bright indirect light and good air circulation to avoid long vines and get new leaf every 2-3 weeks. I hope this helps!

tbh i love the look of thais so much but everyone i know in real life or that i watch that has one struggles with them. they seem to be super hard to root or to prevent rot on. (which im glad i figured out before spending a bunch of money on one 😂😢) still keeping my fingers crossed for some tc thais to maybe come out stronger than the ones we have now..
@youdontevengrowhere
@youdontevengrowhere 2 года назад
That, or I hope they eventually come down in price enough to lessen the pain when these inevitably rot 🥲 I have had success rooting Thais in a chunky pon mix (100% success rate!), I just can’t get them to grow hahaha

I am also struggling with my Philodendron Pink Princess aswell. The new leaves aren’t growing big. I was told once they move from there habits and into your home you might not have what the nursery have been giving them. So the grow habits will change in your home and they might take longer to adapt. As long as is healthy then is fine. Also i was told these plants are epiphytic by nature, meaning they don’t live buried in soil, they live attached to tree trunks, so is a good idea to give them a moss pole to imitate there natural habitat and a light compost mix. Spray and misting new leaves coming out helps leaf damages. The Philodendron White Princess i don’t know why the new leaf growth the tips are black and damage once it has unfold do you know why it does that? Cause I really don’t want to keep happening. I gave in buying these plants species as i see them so beautiful. I am a new plant parent in this species. Also the Alocasia Dragon Scale struggling too the tips are yellow and starting to get some yellow specks inside the leaves too and the new leaf taking so long to harden.
@martinaharrisondefault5027
@martinaharrisondefault5027 Месяц назад
I think tips going black or rotting is possibility a lack of humidity. PP need higher duration of indirect light than many people give for growth, and a moss pole. Mine is in chunky aroid mix with worm castings and I think that helps too possibility with sizing up, gradual nutrition

A friend of mine who’s a botanist really does not recommend pon etc for tropical plants. She says a lot of them have real issues maturing and that they need organic material. Maybe try organic substrate for those you’re struggling with?
@martinaharrisondefault5027
@martinaharrisondefault5027 Месяц назад
Maybe it's the fertiliser then in not maturing plants. I know you can only use semi hydro Fertiliser for PON because it has to be made for a non organic environment for the plant to access it. And also I don't know if she (sorry I don't know her name!) is using a fertiliser with all the minerals for growth. Maybe something is lacking
@martinaharrisondefault5027

Just two things your ppp looks like an immature cutting, does it produce cataphylls? with the pandemic ethics went straight down the toilet and cutting up immature plants just leads to garbage cuttings. I have a friedrichsthalii and find it very easy to grow, but I never let it dry out, its in a chunky chunky mix of bark, perlite, coco coir, worm castings. one of the ways that you can tell them apart is the spathe should it ever flower, a friedrichsthalii won't keep its spathe.

My next question, is, with some plants giving you limited seeming growth, how much are you feeding? I measure my feed with a tds meter (wouldn't live without it) and I used to be terrified to feed them over about 300-400 tds, but another grower on youtube feeds much higher so I started going higher this warm season.....up to 900-1100 as an experiment this year. They are all thriving, even tender ferns are loving it. I also try and get Ca and Mg in every feed in addition to NPK with micros. I'm probably going to take some plant I don't care so much for and hit it hard with feed and see how high I can go before I see fert burn......just out of curiosity😁
