My Delica was, and still is, my favorite knife that I’ve ever used. I’ve really beat the crap out of it over the years. Thanks to you though, my Soddy is giving it a run for its money here lately lol
Another great video. I do agree Benchmade prices are obscene, but you are getting premium materials and a great warranty. No one ever talks about Emerson's insane prices. The mid-200's for G10 and 154CM? Just a quick BM warranty story: I had a well used mini-grip from about 2010. Last year, I broke the tip (completely my faulty). I asked if I could purchase a new blade and they told me to send it in. Not only did they replace the blade for free, but they upgraded the steel from 154CM to S30V, and refurbished the knife to like-new condition. Amazing service.
love the 940! my springs broke, and then i lost the knife before I could send it in for warranty... found it a few years later and decided to take it apart and replace the springs myself. im obsessed with it all over again now 😂 thanks for the video!
I love your enthusiasm for American made traditional knives. I have to admit though I love my Opinels and starting to dip my toes into Spanish and Portuguese folders.
We have some similar tastes. If I were making a list, there would definitely be plenty of Spyderco representation, plus a Sebenza, and an Emerson. These are actually my top 3 favorite folding knife brands.
I carried a ZT 0350 Stonewashed through 2 different wars and it held up well. Still use it to this day. When out and about, it's a Bugout. Inna woods, a old-school Buck 110 since I'm used to using it to clean animals. I so want a Jack Wolf knife...
Awesome vid, great knife collection , I can feel your passion , I wish I can meet more people like you that love knives and sharpening, I almost feel if your not sharpening your own knives as a collector your missing out on the full experience,My favorite Spyderco is between Manix 2 15V or the Shaman in Cruwear , I own 1 CRK it’s the UMNUMZAAN in Magnacut it’s pretty awesome , My favorite Benchmade is the Super Freek M4 but respect all the knives you shown
My small sabenza, spyderco endura, all black Para 2 and green Osborne are my 4 favorite knives in my collection. Strange coincidence that I came across your channel about 8 hours ago and then you post this.
The Spyderco endura used to be super popular on RU-vid but now it’s really underrated. It’s incredible. Such an amazing knife. The endura is definitely a great one and done knife. Especially if you can get it in a more premium steel. I wish the endura would become a USA model. I like it way more than the pm2
@joe_a_photo ya crazy how the knife community has changed over the years. I have had a few enduras and delicas over the years. They are just a stupid simple well designed cutting tool. No frills works.
Hey Erica, Nice collection. I have a few knives in common with this group. I've got Spyderco Delica 4, the Old Timer Bruin (mine is also USA but it's from the 80's and is in Green Delran) and the Sod Buster Jr. The Soddy is new and recently took a trip to Tiner Town with some Honeycrisp apple peeling. I think the new CS takes the tiner faster than the CV. I've got a couple of older tactical style knives but they were never my preference. Always preferred the traditional patterns.
Awesome list. The bug out was named properly. It was made to throw in your Bug out bag, so you have a light carry knife when you need it when you forget it's there
Its really cool the lock has held up for you on the bruin despite the hate elsewhere online. I trust your review It really is a spectacular looking blade try not to drop it too much lol You have really turned me onto traditional knives I really cant go back to modern design . I have a bunch of modern folders that really get no love anymore lol Keep up the videos I enjoy them .
Nice top 10 E! I can see why that specific Sebenza would be considered “plain” or “boring” but I personally like the simplicity of that configuration. Mila Kunis 🤤
The delica was one of my first nice knives and even though I’ve owned a lot of higher end knives over the years I still carry the delica a lot! Hard to beat it’s performance and I paid 60 something bucks for it back when they first came out with the FFG. People forget that before S30V was in common use that VG 10 was the gold standard stainless and for good reason it’s an excellent steel.
So glad I found your channel. I love the Spyderco designs ... Para 3 LW and Drogonfly 2 and from other companies like the Ontario Wraith and Gerber LST, You have great content thanks.
Love that Para 3. I've modded it by removing the clip and putting a small patch of skateboard opposite the cut out on the opposite scale where my thumb goes. And another piece on the opposite scale, close to the spine aligned at the position where the scale arches (if it were fitted). The tape makes up for the little loss of grip I experienced after removing the clip. All in all though, what a great line up!
You have a great top 10 list and I'm glad to say that I actually own a couple of your choices as well, and I completely agree with you. 😁That blooper at the end was genuinely hilarious; I'm very klutzy and It a miracle that I still have all my fingers and toes from handling sharp knives all my life...lol 🤣Anyway, this video brightened up my day, so thank-you very much and Cheers!
My favorite Spyderco is the Manix 2 Lightweight. Agree with you on Benchmade’s recent pricing-Geez. I do have a Griptilian I’ve had for years. Great list.
I’m with you on the 940. It’s an emotional thing more than anything else at this point - it was my first grail knife. If I lost it, I’d replace it regardless of price.
Until I watch this video I would’ve never considered buying an old timer. You are really a great salesman when some thing is actually worth it. Maybe you need to open up your own knife shop😊
I have a Manix 2XL in CRUWEAR, love it. Got a 940 don't carry/use it much trying to keep it mint, also have the same Bug Out as you and carry it often, great everyday carry. Good video. Thanks 😊
Awesome list and descriptions. I'm def going to check out your other videos. I think my top 3 spydercos are the sage 5 LW, pm2 and chaparral mostly for aesthetic reasons.
Great review, well done, thanks. I have all these except the Emerson, I just never cared for the design, and the TRM which is always out of stock. I’ll try the Emerson though based on your recommendation, and I have seen others mention the A100 before as well. FYI, my first knife in 1963 was a Sodbuster, and it was twice the knife the new Chinese one is. I got a new yellow delrin three years ago, and was so disappointed. The scales were ground very unevenly, the blade grinds were off and the edge was dull. How do you screw that up? I spent 30 minutes with it on a grinder and got it mostly even, but shouldn’t have had to. That’s the only reason I didn’t get a Jr. I have 50 Trappers and the worst of them is way better built than this Sodbuster, but maybe I just got a dud. A far better quality knife that’s a Sodbuster clone is the excellent AG Russell Rancher, but it is a bit more $. No offense, but to me putting that Sobbuster Jr into a Richter slip is kind of like perfuming a pig, but I appreciate it because I have a couple of GEC slipjoints that would look great in one of those. You earned a new subscriber here based on your presentation. Thanks again for the interesting top 10! 👍
I love my small Sebenza 31. It’s wonderful. All the haters and complaints don’t bother me. The thumb stud is fine. It’s fantastic. Price is rough but if you can swing it, it’s a great knife and one of my all time favs. Also everyone should just try an Emerson in general. Emerson knives are fantastic and they are really smooth and so reliable. It’s one of all time favorite brands. People think Emerson’s are over priced but I don’t. I think for the quality and reliability, they are wonderful tools
Dang! Your new “peanut butter & jelly”?! That’s better than fizz. It’s peanut butter jelly time, cuz I’ve got all but 2 of these and my top 3 are all on this list. Carried my K390 Delica at work today. Surprised that it also made Metal Complex’s newest top Spyderco list too. Fun stuff!
I agree with the para 3 for sure, and a delica for sure, def in k390. but then I'd choose a sage 5.....or mini manix. I wish they'd bring back the sage 3, that's really like a mini manix. I got a smock clone a while back and I loved it so much I bought a real one. I'd choose the smock over the benchmade osborne; it's the same shape-ish blade, same size-ish, more fidgity, it's great. Somewhere on my list has to be a demko, and somewhere on there has to be that new civivi vision fg.........as far as value vs price....can't beat them. You said something about benchmade knives being overpriced, but then went into a chris reeve---- I will never buy a chris reeve knife, and i've played with them and used a sebenza more than once, the sebenza is super sweet and smooth, but cmon, $400+ is stupid. There are other knives made by other makers that are just as beautiful and smooth--- this might be blasphemy but I honestly think the sebenza is kinda ugly. I don't like the blade shape and how the thumb ramp or whatever looks. I think it's blasphemy to call it the Mila Kunis.....nope, nope, nope Thats an insult to mila--but I will agree that Mila is perfection....her or Emma Stone (I know they both look completely different, but are both perfect in their own ways lol). The kizer Ti is just as good and sub $200, lots of other kizers are as good or better, and lots of other knives on the market are better and cost effective.
Knives on this list that I have because of you...Mini A100 & Neutron 2. Knives on this list I will likely have some day because of you.... Small Sebenza and that Bruin.
I'm un-decided between the small sebenza and the small Inkosi,, my question is, should I get one in S45vn or pay the extra and get Magnacut.?? Don't know why but I'm leaning towards the Inkosi, as everyone says it's more beefy,, Help, please,, 🤙
My favorite is the spyderco delica in k390. Just can't put it down. Parked all my benchmade, sebenza etc. The k390 steel is freegin amazing. Getting a super nice golden, stonish grey patina too.
All great choices. Curious, you mentioned that Benchmade prices have gotten “out of control” Would you say that the value is not there due to the lack of upgraded steel?
I’d like to see a video of the most popular lightweight knives, under 3oz or so... From my experience, over the past couple of years, I have given many pocket knives out as gifts to people who aren’t really big into knives like you and I, and what I have noticed is that these people who aren’t use to carrying pocket knives everyday, are more likely to carry them if they are relatively lightweight. Just an idea for a future video perhaps... I think it will help get others into the hobby...
All great choices, I concur 👍 Gave my small Sebenza 21 to my son Still have the larger 21 The para 3 is a little too small for my large hands So I stick with the paramilitary 2 camo scales black blade Oh, love my spyderco Military Do they sell this one anymore? Great ergos but big knife Don’t get too crazy about steels The case sodbusters, have two the large and jr yellow synthetic and cv Prefer the larger, again the larger hands The delica, still have my original delica from over 20 years ago that I sent in for spyderco to sharpen and it’s now retired looking new Replaced with the FFG model, great slicer edc The benchmade Osborne with green aluminum handles few have even attempted to imitate this model It’s got to be their best seller Lost 2, finally removed the pocket clip and have had my third for years now A worthy re-purchase and two other people somewhere got lucky free Osborne’s Passed the Benchmade Bugout to my son, with the blue scales it originally came in as he’s an xtra lite back packer and it’s his main Ed’s The native, classic beater I could recommend more similarly perfect edcs but that’s adding my opinion to your already wonderful selection ! Oh I’ll do another one, the yellow spyderco delica or endura salt in H1 or H2 steel. I’ve had these in buckets of saltwater for over a day, no rust Great video, good tastes in practical, functional edcs✌️
The best thing about these blades is the wear and tear. The stains and marks and scratches. They get used. I always struggle with the idea of buying a blade and putting it away. All that engineering and design work - may as well be made of paper mache. I don't use all of my blades all of the time - impossible - but I do love grabbing the right blade for the job at hand and getting out and using it. If you're new to knives this isn't a bad starting list. Sharp blades all.
The Old Timer you showed at the end is really awesome, Would go great with my brass Zippo, and I think 1095 Is still one of the best knife blade steels ever. Loved the video and your channel! Thanks!
Psst, some of the old sodbusters had a button linerlock on them back in the days of Moses, but if anybody gives you any flack about it, tell em where to get off, UYS, keep on with the keepin on
You didn’t keep the Para 3 Maxamet?! Love mine, tinertown. Who did your Delica re grind or could you recommend someone who does good re grinds? BM Bugout controversial?? As if, just a great knife. Neutron 2, got wood? All the cool people have sweet wood scales for the Neutron. Ask me how I know. “Mila Kunis of the knife world” lmfao. The slip for your Soddy, what color is it? About to put in my Richter order. Bought a Bruin but got a lemon. No snap and huge gap in the cover.
Can not fault your list, since your experience and knowledge reaches far beyond my horizon. But for me as an amateur, i would not omit the humble Opinel. Best friend of any food prep, and it cost less than a salami or even a Bagel with something yummy on it. Opinel cen hold up a light to the allmighty Delica in that sense: "you"re soo good, but, look, i'm even better" :)
"I don't care if you don't like the price point, get over it"...haha seriously. Hmm...lemme think for a second...two Jack Wolf knives or a Sebenza? That's a really tough choice! I really need to watch 'Black Swan' again. That was PEAK Mila 😍 The brunette trifecta of Natalie, Mila & Winona was a motherfucking force to be reckoned with 🔥💥⚡ 🔥
yikes, you have SMALL hands. That looks in your hand like the Endela looks in mine. I have two Endelas now and am seriously considering adding the K390 bladed version. The Delica 4 was the first knife with a pocket clip that I ever got. The pocket clip absolutely transforms knife carry, before that my pocket knife was a Buck 110. Night and day difference. I think it's worth noting that there is a definite beauty in functionality.
@@ericasedc your welcome Erica. I love your content and found you through neeves and metal complex. Your content really makes me wanna join in and create. You’ve done that for me and I’ll always be grateful. Hope you have the best day.
Eri-Ca-Ca! whats uppie! LOL.. Good video. I am a cheap guy never paid over $76.00 for a daily user. Give me a suggestion under 3" for my budget. Please?
Dated list for sure. But the 940 is one of my all time never going to leave top 3 edc blades of all time. I have the 940 KWE version black and blue G-10. It is nothing short of FANTASTIC. I think you need a few more New age blades to try. Currently the Cogent is wonderful. I should make an updated top 5 of my current blades. But I really want a malibu and I hear rumors that they will be available soon. I have owned 2 or 3 para 3s over the years. And I think its a decent knife not great. It has many many issues that make it not worth carrying it. I would rather carry my PM3 or my sexy Manix 2 translucent blue. PM3 is just to goofy for me.
I also thought they were ugly at first. I still find some of the models ugly, but I think they grow on you. In a way they are so efficiently designed it's beautiful in a way and the Us and Taiwan models do actually have a certain appeal. That being said some people will always think they are ugly and for those there are other companies. The first rule in buying anything is to buy something you will enjoy using.
Top 10 EDC knives? How many do you carry at once? If you have 10+ EDC knives it would seem that most of them spend the majority of their time sitting in your dresser drawer and don’t get to be carried every day. Just the view point of someone who only has one “EDC”knife and doesn’t even carry it every day.
"Benchmades are too expensive "... but i own a Sabenza. Also its a little more rugged that a Mila Kunis. Maybe some one that is more durable and can probably take a punch and give one back. Scarlet Johansson, Charlize Theron, Jennifer Lawrence maybe... i dunno.
But you get your money’s worth with a Sebenza. A Benchmade Bugout has no business being $200. I love it! And love having one in my rotation. But the price is not justified.
It’s her Top 10, not _the_ Top 10. By definition the list is subjective. E.g. I’d include the XM-18, but not the Demko, and I’d drop the Sodbuster and add a Chaves / Reate. Being disappointed in a personally subjective list is pretty silly actually.
I really wish that someone would offer a set of “clipit” FRN scales with molded-in pocket clip for the Para2 and 3. A bit of a throwback to Spyderco history.
Inflation caught up quick in 9 months, the Bruin is now $71.99 on sale from $79.99 on Amazon, quite the jump from $55. Still seems like a great knife from your review!
