Beautiful creations. And congratulations on reclaiming a rejected garment that is a work of art. This helps the earth too. I weave rugs out of rags, make quilts out of scraps, and rework clothes from garage sales and resale stores. It makes me happy to make beautiful and useful things out of materials that were throw away. I prefer natural fibers though and knitting with quality yarn. from Toledo

Very fun seeing all of these. I endorse you thrift and fix idea. I've only been knitting a year, but I have always thrifted sweaters and mended holes. Word got out and friends gave me their damaged sweaters. I got very good at invisible darning and even learned how to cut and graft sleeves (Cheryl Brunette on RU-vid). Now I thrift for yarn and reclaim it for new projects.

I have Never commented on any of the knitting videos or podcasts I've watched over the last year when I discovered them, but I wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed this one. I liked all your garments you presented. I would like to be more adventurous with patterns (I only ever knit bottom up and at most include a few cables.) Well done.

Hmmm… my greatest advice is to find a sweater you love enough to commit the time learning to create… and find the right materials to make it happen. Dig around Ravelry, you can view other peoples project and favorites. DM me on IG what ideas you have and I can maybe give more suggestions!

I cut it myself using Brad Mondo’s curtain bang tutorial on RU-vid and the ponytail unicorn technique for layers. I only use super sharp hair cutting scissors otherwise I would be creating damaged ends from the get-go. Thank you for your compliment!!! ❤️❤️❤️

I'm curious if you modified the sleeves of the first sweater you present, the orange one, based on your experience or you used a pattern for widening them? I love your modification starting from the bright colors ( I do love orange, especially in the winter, as well) and finishing with the shape of the sleeves. Really great!!
@TaylorOwen
@TaylorOwen 2 года назад
I modified the sleeves for sure. I believe the pattern included decrease shaping, whereas I did no shaping whatsoever - simply stockinette with a few rows of rib so that it doesn’t roll. 🧡
@anetaturkiewicz5229
@anetaturkiewicz5229 2 года назад
@@TaylorOwen Thank you so much! Do I understand correctly?: You did not do any increases, just continued knitting with the "original number of stiches from some point? 'Cause the sleeves look like getting wider from the ellbow or so :)
@TaylorOwen
@TaylorOwen 2 года назад
@@anetaturkiewicz5229 yes, isn’t that crazy! That’s the impact of gauge. I did the same thing on my Yell cardigan, knit in woolen spun colorwork. The dense fabric of the yell made the bell sleeve way less dramatic. The loose gauge and the drape of the silk mohair made the same application of straight stockinette far more exaggerated. ❤️🧡💛

Hi Taylor, I seem to bombard you with questions recently, I'm sorry! I would like to ask you if the soho mohair silk yarn in sweater no. 10 (orange one) contains a lot of mohair and if it's itchy? I'm not a sensitive person (with yarns) but I have an occasion to buy a yarn with even 75% of mohair and 25% of silk. Since the percent of mohair is very high and the yarn is very expensive, I wonder .... I consider buying just one skein, make a tiny collar and wear it and feel how it feels against my skin. I was curious what your experience with that yarn is, as well as with Jamieson & Smith's 2-ply jumper weight yarn. I've already bought some single skeins but haven't made anything yet. Would you say it is itchy? I remember once, while presenting your Ola yoke sweater, you said that it's okey as long as it's not too warm, then it gets kind of itchy on your skin. Your opinion would be much appreciated!
@TaylorOwen
@TaylorOwen 2 года назад
The purl soho silk mohair is a great yarn, not like other silk mohair I have tried before. Definitely next to skin soft for me in any season. Jamieson and smith however, is impossible for me to wear except in the coldest months. It def has the itch factor for me but I still love it! I’ve noticed that I can wear the Yell cardigan more often though, I think because of the amount of drape and ease to the garment. It’s not sitting as close to my skin as the Ola Yoke.
@anetaturkiewicz5229
@anetaturkiewicz5229 2 года назад
@@TaylorOwen Reliable as always! Thank you Taylor. Your remark on J & S yarn might stop me from buying more skeins unless for a cold winter. Their colors are so tempting tough .....
@TaylorOwen
@TaylorOwen 2 года назад
@@anetaturkiewicz5229 FWIW they get softer over time. It’s just not the softest yarn. I can swear it next to skin no problem, but for a short while when I was on a medication that made me very sensitive, it was impossible.
