The ten best movies ever made...at least in my opinion. Today we are talking about my top 10 favorite movies of all time, a list that is nearly impossible to make for every single filmmaker, film fan, and film critic out there. At this point in my life, Letterbox'd claims I have seen at least 1,610 so far, which is a pretty decent chunk by my standards.
What made my list? Am I somebody that loves just Terminator 2 and Toy Story? Or how about somebody that only loves Fanny and Alexander? Is there any Tarkovsky films in sight?
Maybe....but most likely neither of those things, so let's talk about my ten favorite movies of all time...right now...at 24 years old...in 2021.

Some interesting films ive never heard of heres my top 10 010. Sicario. A bleak look at the war against drugs. An FBI agent is enlisted into a special taskforce created to tackle the war against drugs at the US - Mexican border. Emily Blunt and Josh Brolin are great. Benicio Del Torro steals the show but the real showstealer is the rivetting tension created by epic visuals and direction created by Denis Villeneuve. 009. Rear Window. I feel this is Alfred Hitchcocks best work. A photographer who is in a wheelchair after an accident becomes obsessed with spying on his neighbours and believes he as witnessed a murder his model girlfriend isnt so sure. James Stewart gives an understated performance but this film is about Hitchcocks masterful direction and visuals peering out the window done in such a way it feels like its yourself watching these people. 008. 12 Angry Men. A Sidney Lumet masterpiece in direction and writing in its most simplistic form a film about 12 jurrors tasked with giving a verdict on a young man accused of murder 11 are ready to give a guilty verdict but 1 man played to perfection by Henry Fonda begs the question of doubt and for his peers to look deeper into their prejudices and flaws as well as the case. All primary set in one room. 007. Lost In Translation. A beautiful film set in Tokoyo about an actor struggling to find meaning and a lonely newly wed longing for some kind of conecction. Who form an unlikely bond. Both Scarlett Johansson and Bill Mrray give fantastic performances in a superbly wrote and directed film with incredible visuals from Soffia Coppola who makes up for her awful acting in Godfather part 3. 006. No Country For Old Men, A Cooen Brothers film based on the incredible book of the same name by Cormac Mccarthy set as a modern western cat and mouse chase, about a man who stumbles on a suitcase of money after a deal gone bad who must run and hide from the monsterous killer whos tracking him down as well as the Mexicans whose case he as stolen. Josh Brolin and Tommy Lee Jones are fantastic in this film but the Standout performance belongs to the rightfully oscar winning Javier Bardem who gives a spine chilling turn 005. The Departed. In my opinion Scorcesse's best film about an undercover cop who feels trapped and scared of what he must become to stay hidden and alive. While finding the mole inside the Boston PD tracking him down. Leonardo DiCaprio gives in my opinion his best performance here and Matt Damon, Jack Nicholson, Martin Sheen, Mark Whalberg, Ray Winstone and Vera Farmiga all play their roles impeccably creating an incredible ensemble. 004. Die Hard. John Mcclane an average police officer is forced to become more to save his wife and others taken hostage at Nakatomi Plaza from German terrorists. Bruce Willis and Alan Rickman both give amazing performances becoming one of the best heroes and villains in film respectively. 003. Inception. Christopher Nolan creates a mind bending concept of a heist film set inside peoples dreams, Di Caprio all long with a stellar supporting cast give incredible performances that take place around impeccable visuals and a fascinating idea. 002. The Lives Of Others. An incredible German character study about a secret police, officer finding himself captivated byy the lives of a writer and his lover he is sent to investigate. 001. The Dark Knight - Heath Ledger gives a career defining performance one of the best ever. Also love how Nolan made a compelling and riveting crime drama with a Batman skin makes it endlessly rewatchable. Batman must stop a crazed man dressed in clown makeup hellbent on chaos and the destruction of Gotham.

My Top 10 Favorite Movies There are still movies out there waiting for me but this is my top 10 for now but might change. 10. Good Will Hunting - The fact that Ben Affleck, Robin Williams & Matt Damon was in this movie together makes this movie so good. It has an entertaining story and the acting is astonishing. 9. Citizen Kane - The cinematography is innovative and breathtaking at the same time. I really love how some scenes were inspired by this particular movie. It’s truly a classic that will forever beloved by generations to come. 8. Interstellar - I’d prefer this movie instead of Gravity because the visuals is amazing and it has a pretty cool soundtrack. Matthew McConaughey was perfect in this movie. 7. Spiritied Away - Chihiro IMO is one of the best protagonists I’ve ever seen in a film. It has amazing cast of characters, a story that is enjoyable, great writing and also has the greatest scene in animated history which is the train scene. 6. Lawrence of Arabia - The score and cinematography blending together in this film is astonishing. It has also one of the greatest cinematic entrances of all time, the score is breathtaking and it truly is the best historical epic film IMO. 5. A Clockwork Orange - The dark humor is extremely executed and it has one of the best narrations in a film. Truly a masterpiece. 4. Schindler’s List - The best Holocaust movie ever and my favorite movie from Steven Spielberg. Liam Neeson’s role for Oskar Schindler was perfect. It’s also historically accurate. It also inspired survivors to tell more stories about the Holocaust. 3. 2001: A Space Odyssey - The greatest science fiction movie ever IMO and the best movie from Stanley Kubrick. The visuals especially in the stargate scene is incredible. It tells a story by camera movments instead of dialogue and the score especially in the opening and ending scene is really astounding. It tells the audience how humans evolve which shows how this is one of those movies that educates the audience. 2. Pulp Fiction - It has all the necessary elements to make you watch it over and over again. John Travolta, Uma Thurman and Samuel L. Jackson was great in this movie. The comedy in this film is 100% good that it makes it a perfect film and one of the funniest movies ever to exist. Honorable Mentions: The Shawshank Redemption, Unbroken, Psycho, Gone with the Wind, King Kong, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Sixteen Candles, The Princess Bride, The Breakfast Club, E.T The Extra-Terrestrial, 12 Angry Men, The Notebook, Forrest Gump, Caged & The Terminator. 1. The Thing - My #1 movie of all time. I gotta give John Carpenter credit for making all of the characters intelligent instead of being stupid as what modern horror movies has. It has an entertaining story, amazing characters and great effects.

Top 10 is hard but I do have my definitive top 5 (which is also on Letterboxd). Ones that’ll have the same place in my heart no matter what changes in my lifetime and how old get. Give these a rewatch yearly that’s how certain of the picks I am. #5 9 - Have been working on a video about this movie for over a year. Hopefully will see the light of day soon. In short; the pinnacle of the animation medium in my eyes. An original work that is incredibly universal and will never be done again making it all the more exceptional. Probably wouldn't even have a passion for film without its impact on me when it was released. More context will be unveiled whenever that project comes out. #4 Pans Labyrinth - Cemented me as a Del Toro stan. Believe it was my earliest foreign language movie, that or Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. Regardless, still rules. A piece that crescendos to higher and greater places as it goes, leaving you totally shell shocked. # 3 Spider-Man 2 - Maybe my childhoods talking but it’s still the king of the superhero genre, yes even more so than the Dark Knight in my mind. Its spirit is just unmatched to anything that’s come before it and since. The more you grow up with it the more relatable and human it becomes. # 2 The Lord of the Rings- Literally any entries from the trilogy can go in this spot, keep debating between Fellowship or Return of the King. A similar category of 2000s blockbuster like Raimi’s Spider-Man which are full of untapped resonance. It’s also a series you can’t watch out of order, and right when one ends you gotta watch the next. Can’t name another franchise where I feel that amount of enthusiasm towards. # 1 The Revenant - The last shot is reason enough to place it above the rest, still gives me chills. Testament on how far filmmaking has come. Everything about it is great. Badass, beautiful, thought-provoking, epic, and so intense. Film twitters gonna hate, but I hail that as Leo’s best work by a mile. So deserved the Oscar, as well as Inarritu for directing.
@chaseazarian
@chaseazarian 3 года назад
I saw 9 almost a decade ago and don't really remember appreciating it...so I just added that to the rewatch list cause you have me convinced to check it out again because I barely even remember it. You nailed it with the Lord of the Rings description, no other franchise makes it feel "necessary" to watch all three at once, but I have crowned Fellowship as my favorite. The Revenant has grown on me more and more as the years pass, and Spider-Man 2 will most likely always be in my Top 5 comic book movies!

I'm a huge fan of the 80s so some of my movie range within that era because they were more enjoyable to watch. By the way, Yul Brynner is my favorite villain in most of the classic movies I love to watch. 10. Indiana Jones Trilogy - A really entertaining 80s adventure trilogy that will keep you sitting on the edge of your chair 9. Rambo 1 - Another nostalgic action flick with that great 80s feel 8. Scarface - Although very cruel but very nostalgic about the 80s. Gives you that great 80s feel 7. For a Few Dollars More - A classic cruel western thriller that got me eating my hat the whole time I watched it 6. Back to the Future Trilogy - Great work of sci fi entertainment 5. Passengers - This movie always inspired me about a sci fi book I always wanted to write about a journey through space 4. The 10 Commandments with Charlton Heston - One of those classics where they choose a good faced villain to play it! YUl Brynner of c. 3. Star Wars Prequel Trilogy - As an artist myself, these movies by George Lucas were works of artistic ideas and sophistication 2. Stargate - This movie was so full of mystery the first time I watched...the sophistication and villain were very well planned 1. Coming to America - Believe it or not I have watched this nostalgic 80s romantic movie over 1000 times in my lifetime...still not tired. My favorite movie of all times! This movie is an inspiration for a book I'm currently working on.

Seems like a bad list. There Will Be Blood better than Fight Club and The Matrix? No way. Somehow Hereditary makes the list? It has a crappy ending and the plot never gives any clues so zero payoff so it just craps in your mouth. You think Almost Famous is better than 6th Sense and Pan's Labyrinth? Ludicrous. According to your picks you must not care much for comedies which is sad. Dazed and Confused better than The Green Mile and The Naked Gun?> No way dood. I guess you haven't seen enough films or something. Do your duty and get to watching. Heheh

Oh no hereditary!!! Certainly one of the worst a24 movies it's a stinker and I really rate toni collette she is very good in the film but the movie is a train wreck.
