Just a list of some of my favorite female fronted Goth bands. This list will include traditional Goth Rock & some Deathrock bands.Part of the reason why I made this list was because whenever I looked up "Female Fronted Goth bands", I'd only see Symphonic Metal bands (Nightwish, Within Temptation, etc.) so I thought a list with some actual Goth rock oriented bands would be a good change.
So no, you won't be seeing bands like Nightwish or Evanescence on this list, this list will contain straight up Goth rock or Deathrock oriented bands. Hope you enjoy!

***** Yeah, I love 70's, 80's, 90's and some early 2000's stuff, too xD You know, I could never get into screamo either or anything extremely aggressive -- that stuff gave me a headache. But when it comes to metal music, I'll listen to some 80's stuff like Dokken since that type of metal had more emotion, imo. I feel ya about the relating to modern rock kids, man. There are times where I feel I was born in the wrong country or era :/ Speaking of goths into goth rock, I used to contribute with other fellow goths on the "list of gothic rock bands" on Wikipedia. We'd post modern and 80's underground goth bands before the page was raided by black metal morons who completely delisted those bands and added metal bands while using dumb as hell sources. You know there's something wrong when "Marilyn Manson" and "My Chemical Romance" get listed as "gothic rock". Unfortunately, I had to flee because they've completely overtook the page. :'(

***** LOL!! Hot Topic bands? xD That's the first time I've seen someone say that and it's hilarious! Yeah, I know the loneliness feeling. In fact, I've tried introducing some of my friends to gothic rock and darkwave but... they seemed more interested in bands like you just mentioned :/ They think all this type of music is "music that my mom listens to" nonsense. It's ironic, though; people will consider a band "goth" based on looks and most of the gothic rock bands hardly ever dress up like that. Kids these days! :/ Yeah, I've heard of symphonic metal, folk metal, black metal and even gothic metal. I guess symphonic is okay. :P I've been trying to explore more gothic rock-esque genres and discovered pagan rock and neoclassical darkwave. They're not too bad. :) Indeed, not knowing the difference is extremely inexcusable. -_- And LOL at that comment, man. Ignorance is unbelievable.

It's all good. I would've included them here but I listen to quite a bit of Darkwave as oppsoed to genres like Deathrock (why I included some deathrock on this list) and I felt a darkwave list would've been more appropriate for them.

@KaiDecadence 6 лет назад
The Goth rock genre is not for everyone and a genre that may take a few listens to get used to because as I'm sure you probably know, this kinda music never gets played on Radio stations or anywhere in the mainstream at all. But I'm going to have to correct you on something. By "Symphonic stuff", do you mean "Symphonic Metal"? Because if so, Symphonic Metal is not Goth music, it's a sub-genre of Metal music. So I mean the fact that you run into that kind of stuff when looking for female fronted metal bands isn't inaccurate as it is metal music, just a different kind of metal music.

I have a question, been bothering me for a while and I'd like your personal thoughts (I'm not 'goth' but I listen to a variety of music.) Is Gothic Metal a part of the goth subculture? Or does it belong more to the Metal family tree? I can see why Symphonic bands are often confused with Gothic Metal (Case in point: Within Temptation's first album was Gothic metal and they still borrowed some elements that made it on one of their well known albums.) Thoughts?
@KaiDecadence
@KaiDecadence 7 лет назад
Oh dear lol Yeah, Gothic metal is a very touchy subject but here's my personal opinion on it. I personally believe that Gothic metal is more inline with the Metal subculture/family tree. The main reason why I say this is because of most Gothic Metal bands I've heard, I don't hear any semblance of Goth rock used in it. No Gothic rock guitar sound structure, no mellowtone Gothic style drumming, no deep droning bass, no somber style singing (Goth rock singing doesn't have to be somber but it is a very popular trait in the Goth genre). But I hear plenty of Metal in it. The only difference is that Gothic metal tends to throw in classical instruments (usually piano or Violin). Now in saying this, there have been instances where a Gothic Metal band has actually done a successful crossover of Goth rock meets metal. For some band examples (And good call on Within Temptation, I don't listen to them that much but listening to their 1997 debut album, they did start out with mixing Gothic rock, Metal, and Doom together before they went for straight up Symphonic Metal). Anywho! -Type O Negative: Probably one of the most known bands that actually successfully pulled off the style mixing Goth rock & Doom Metal. Deep mellow tone guitar, drumming, and a droning somber voice with doom metal atmosphere. Song to Check out: "Black No. 1" -Tiamat: Pretty much the Swedish Type O Negative, they did the same thing of mixing in beautifully of Gothic Rock meets metal. Song to check out: "Cold Seed" -Tristania: They initially started out as pure Gothic Metal with their 1998 album "Widow's Weed" to 2007 (pretty much all their work when Vibeke Stene was in the band). You could hear the droning guitar that is found in Goth rock in a lot of their earlier work. Song to check out: "Sanguine Sky" -Theatre of Tragedy: Their 1998 album "Aegis" was a beautiful blend of Gothic rock & Metal. Deep mellow-droning guitar playing and drum style. Song to checkout: "Venus" -Paradise Lost: Considered one of the pioneers of actual Gothic Metal (where it was actually a melding of Gothic rock meets Metal),another good example of Gothic rock meets metal. Song to check out: "I Am nothing" -Moonspell: Some of their work, they do blend in some beautiful Goth rock with Metal. Song to checkout: "Wolfshade" So can Goth rock and Metal mix and create a truly "Gothic Metal" sound? Absolutely! It's just that it's VERY rare for bands to do that and the bands that often get categorized as "Gothic Metal" are really just Symphonic Metal, Black Metal, Doom Metal, or Nu Metal. So in my honest opinion, while I do consider it more of a Metal genre, I will say that Gothic Metal is Goth-friendly music and when a band actually does mix Gothic rock with Metal, it is a beautiful combination in my opinion. Sorry for the long-winded answer but I hope it answered your question! -

@KaiDecadence
@KaiDecadence 4 года назад
@@salty_commuter819 Again, just because she was popular with some Goths doesn't make her music Goth by association. The fact of the matter is that she didn't make Goth music, she made a different genre of music (Avant Garde & Experimental). Not all of the Cure's music was Goth so they weren't wrong. Out of their 13 albums, only 7 of them were Goth Rock. And with Siouxsie, same where they only ever made one Goth Rock album (Juju) while the rest of their work was Post Punk to Alternative Rock/Alternative Pop.

@@salty_commuter819 I may not have been around in the 80s but I do have ears. I don't need to have been in the 80s to know that Diamanda Galas did not play Goth music back then. You do realize that Goth just like any other genre of music has a certain instrumentation quirk right? And that yes, even in the 4 other sub-genres of Goth (Deathrock, Darkwave, Ethereal Wave, and Coldwave) use the key Goth rock quirk which is what makes them sub-genres of the genre of Goth right? I suggest watching this video where I dissect what made the Goth genre sound because yes, even back then this was a musical fact. ( ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4GsskYEDgrE.html )
