For those who want to write the game names down: 0:54 Flamecraft 2:54 Dice Throne: Season 2 6:11 Honey Buzz 8:05 The Guild of Merchant Explorers 9:38 Brian Boru 11:44 Trolls and Princesses 14:13 The Castles of Burgundy 17:07 The Search for Planet X 18:56 HEAT: Pedal to the Medal 20:24 Root
I ended up selling the game for this reason. Obviously if it's one of your favourites, I can understand keeping it around though for those special plays.
Love how many content creators have Root is their number 1 game (and struggle with the same problem of needing a committed group). Great production and you have a great youtuber voice/presence. Your channel will grow quickly I'm sure!
Thank you so much, I really appreciate it! Yeah, root is such a great game but it's really hard to get people interested in devoting a lot of time to one game if it's not a campaign. :)
I really liked this video Root is my all time favorite game too and I very much can relate to the struggle of trying to get people to play consistently. Keep up the good work!
The artwork in previous editions of castles of burgundy really has been a massive drawback for me. Just looking at the special edition makes it more appealing, looks way better.
I like the muted colors of the original ( though new looks better) Merchant Explorers on this list has been criticized for a similar saturation, but I think it looks lovely.
I love your list! Subscribed! My favorite game is Castles of Burgundy and Dice Throne second. I totally understand your point about not getting people to play certain games. I'm actually looking for local gaming groups just so I can play board games my family won't play! lol Keep up the good work.
Great video! Flamecraft is such a fun game. Root is one I have had on my list for awhile along with the solo expansion so I could actually get it to the table more often.
I love that with Flamecraft you can have so many people play and the game is still really enjoyable! Root is such a fun game and I highly recommend it! ;)
I don't really recommend the solo expansion, it's not the same as with other players. If you want to play alone, I'd suggest buying the digital version and playing online.

One of the most challenging things with love of heavy boardgames is finding people to play it with. And those who are willing to play it also play video games and sometimes they'd rather stay home and play a video game because it's just more convenient and same level of fun (for them).
That’s a great video, and a lovely list! And super happy to see Root up there, I love it and am fortunate to have friends who are also willing and able to play with me 😊
Root is my all time favourite game too. I just wish I had more people to play it with, so i appreciate your struggle to get root to the table. Love everything about it, the theme, the art, the gameplay everything
Very good video. I was searching on RU-vid for a new board game to play and I just didn’t find any that I liked. That’s when I came across this video. Great board games all around. Thank so much you have helped me so much.
Love that I found this channel, subscribed. I own all those board games but heat, I really didn’t enjoy Cubitos so I didn’t want to give another race game a try, however you sold me on it I’ll give it a try because your top 10 are all board games I love as well.
great list and way of summarizing the games. I do like when showing the board and the display of the game. It gives a good picture of the art, tiles, figures, meeples, cards, etc... it does help a lot. You got one more follower!
Had my eye on Flamecraft for along time. My boys (6, 9, 11) wife and I love gaming and the older 2 are pretty advanced. The theme of that looks like something they'd really love.
Im on the same boat, I LOVE Root but I got no1 to play and I got every single expansion and even printed fan made maps and factions. Im super hyped for the new expansion coming later this year to crowdfunding!
Great video. Root is one of my favourites too. Luckily my kids also love it, so it’s easy to get a three player game together. Planet X has been on my wish list for a while as I also loved Clue as a kid (and still do!). Also like the look of Brian Boru and Honey Buzz… gonna need a new game shelf! 😅
I was lucky with Root, I fell in love with it and every single group I play with fell in love with it as well. I think it all depends on how you present the game initially and how you teach it.
Excellent video! Loved hearing about what your family members thought about the games. I'm a big F1 fan too and your recommendation about Heat definitely will have me picking this one up. Def subscribing to this channel!
My brother is not a huge gamer, but he's a massive F1 fan too and he absolutely loved the game! Thank you so much for the subscribe, it means so much to me!
Came across your video and Dice Throne really caught my eye, I ended up buying the same box you've showed in the video, it's coming in 10-20 days, I'm really excited to try out the champions. I must say I was really looking for some cool games today and I also ordered twilight imperium, gonna make for a fun time, thank you for your list!
This is a great list! It was nice to see Brian Boru pop up.. i bought that game knowing nothing about it except for Ireland-related, and it's been lots of fun. Since I also didn't realize it was 3+ players, my partner & I joint played a fake player 3 in our first playthrough who we gave a silly name to and let them make all kinds of bad choices.
Root is my favorite board game too! Fortunately I have a playing group exclusively for Root (today we played twice). I hope you find people addicted to Root so you can enjoy it even more 😊
So true!! I don't have the patient to teach each of my board game mate how to play each fraction/character in ROOTS... And i hardly find someone that knew and I to the game to play with me... sadly
My mom owns Puerto Rico and we used to love playing it when I lived there. Terraforming mars is another favorite in our collection as well! The other games I haven't had a chance to play, but I will add them to my list!
Great list, lovely decorations! I'm a bit more interested in Heat, my only concern is that people who own it never really say that they play it too often. Which ones would you say are your most played game of all time? I would love to see a video about that too.
We actually play Heat the most as of right now, alongside Castles of Burgundy. Our most played game overall, however, is one that didn't even make it on my favorites list (it's one of my mom's favorite games, so we play it almost every time we see her) and that's Bunny Kingdom!
Hey great list! Your video popped into my feed and I enjoyed seeing your 5-star games. From your list, I've only played two: Honey Buzz and Castles of Burgundy. :) I am very interested in Dice Throne - seems like such a great game. Subscribed to your channel and I look forward to more vids
I actively avoid other people but have loved boardgames for about 20 years. Yours is not a game channel I would normally even watch, let alone subscribe to or like because I only play solo or multi-handed co-op. All that said, I both subbed and liked because of the engaging style and informative content. I only own one of these games...Castles of Burgundy and have the version you showed (not the Special Edition). It's one of my favourite games too....even solo. Thank you for the video.
Your selection is beautiful! I personally enjoyed honey buzz so much and now I’m hopeful I’ll enjoy the recommendations you gave. Amazing explanation and I’m so happy I found your channel 😍
STEAM version of Root is amazing. Excellent tutorials that explain all the factions and rules. Easily in my Top 5 best boardgames of all time. One of those games which is amazingly simple and highly complex -- at the same time.
Enjoyed the list and you presentation a lot, but somehow it looks like you put a separate audio over the video, so picture and audio seem to be not a 100% fit. Might be a me problem, but I much more prefer when both fits! Keep up the good work, as the rest was really delightful
Brian Boru is a fantastic game. Great list overall. The only one I haven't played is your #1. I fear Root wouldn't hit the table often enough, so I never dared venture into its waters.
I know so many people who feel the same way about root, and I honestly can’t blame them. I feel like it’s a game that you have to decide well in advance whether you’re going to play or not. And it’s not like there aren’t other games you can’t play instead to fill up your time! :)
I can relate to your comment that you prefer board games over card games with the exception of cards being a component in a board game. I feel the same way, as I play plenty of card games with family etc. but my passion is for a board game. Heat Pedal to the Metal has been the game that keeps coming back to the table on game night! It’s been a big hit even though wasn’t necessarily what drew me to the game. We tend to have higher player counts, so a 6 person game is great and I hope an expansion allows more players. Thanks for your review of games!
I just love the table presence of a big board game! I grew up playing a lot of face card games and I feel like I'm a little burnt out on them, but give me a big board and screen-printed meeples and I'm a happy camper. Heat has been such a massive hit at our house, and I love that it's got all the extra components to we can adjust our game to the types of players that have joined us at the table.
I've watched a lot of favorite games videos to find new ones that I'd like and most top 5/10 videos suck! That said, I think you did a great job and had a couple I've never seen before! I'm dying to try Root, but both of my gaming groups have no interest in it and my wife's not big in games with a heavy feel. So, unless I find an interested party, I'll probably never play it or get a random run at it. Lol
You have great taste in games. Castles of Burgundy is definitely in my top 3 and I own Root on PC & Android, but can’t really purchase for my physical collection because I just don’t know anyone who likes it. I will give Heat a try on Board Game Arena.
Thank you so much! I prefer to play root on the app, too, most of the time--since it has built in guidelines for you to follow and you can play solo. I just wish I had a group of people who'd be more interested in playing it in person!
I'm aomewhat into boardgames but I didn't even know any of these, they all look nice tho. My favourite from your description and showings would be Burgundy, Roots and Heat
Root is my all-time favorite game, but it took some years until I was able to play it regularly, but now I have a bunch of friends who love it (and a bunch who can't stand it, ha), so I play it once a month in person and usually enjoy a few async games per month on the digital version too.
I love accessorizing games, and TIL Flamecraft has amazing accessories! This list has 3 great games I own, including my favorite (Root of course!). It has one of my main wishlist games, Heat petal to the medal. And it makes me want to try Search for Planet X and Castles of Burgandy even more than before. And I want to look more into game #9 because two player games are very good to have!
Root is a game I enjoy in theory but have never been able to actually enjoy in practice. I can't play my favorite faction, the Woodland Alliance, without constantly telling other people what they need to do to beat me, because it's SO unintuitive for new players So after trying to play this game 5 times with both casual and more core board gamers, I decided to just give up on it and play games that are fun without such an enormous investment.
You have 3 that overlap with my top ten! Root (my number 1) - I have everything, but only play online nowadays with the app and Table Top Simulator. Like you said, hard to find willing opponents/learners! Castles of burgundy (my number 2) - special edition is phenomenal Dice throne (my number 10) - my most played game, have all the characters (s1, s2, marvel, Santa v krampus, and marvel x-men on the way!) but not dice throne adventures…hoping to get that soon. Have yet to get an opportunity to play heat, but I really want to! I think that could be a top ten for me as well. Great list!
Hey, great video! Liked the production value and content. My copy of CoB Special Edition came with one corner of the box and cover torn as well!! I share your pain.. but the game is an all time great.
I enjoyed the your personal list I found a few new titles. Added dice throne for my wishlist but I want heat medal to the pedal first. Unfortunately getting the games I want where I live is complicated hehe.
Great quality video editing, super great backdrop (LOVE the Root meeples, where are they from???) and GREAT selection of games! (I've been wanting to get a copy of the Special Edition Castles of Burgundy for sooooo long!!!) Subscribed!!
Ok, you're first few games got me interested, as I own most of them. Your top 5 made me a subscriber. You have great taste! I would play Root with you if I could! Such a great game. Also, you forgot to mention Dice Throne has an Adventure box and a Marvel box, with X-men coming soon! Dice Throne is great!
Thanks for the subscribe, it means so much to me! And thanks for reminding me about dice throne! Sometimes I forget--just because we only have the first and second season.
Root is one of my favorite games as well, I have the same problem of finding others to sit down and play this game. I guess it’s a love it or hate it game.
Thank you so much! Yeah, I just use box lights on either side of my table, angled toward me at 45 degrees. Other than that, it’s just my candle warming lamp behind me from Amazon and a custom neon light from Etsy. :)
If you guys like the base game of HEAT then I strongly recommend you do the drafting module to add the asymmetric cards. For me, it made the game feel so much more thrilling as it added that anticipation that maybe if I didn’t feel like I was getting the right cards or making the best choices then maybe my personal “secret ability” would make the difference 🏆
A list of big boxes😂 As someone who lives in the Netherlands i see a lot of games i never have seen here. I almost bought the overcomplete edition of renewed kickstarter of Castles of Burgundy Special Edition, but in the end my reason won it from my wanting, because i really could not afford it. I hope they will release it again when my budget allows it. Now i only play it digital
I'm kind of basic, and I love the Eyrie faction. I haven't played the otter faction or the rat faction yet, though and I think I'd really like them as well!
@@AfterEvenfall Nice, Eyrie is the best! I like them and the Woodland Alliance. Still haven’t gotten to play many of the other factions, I’m hoping to play them soon!
Root is definitely not for everyone. But thanks for the hint regarding Brian Boru. What I could recommend from myself is the game that took me and my family by storm - "Blue lagoon"
I have heard that game is amazing and it's on my wishlist!! I didn't know they came out with a new edition, though and that makes me want to play it even more!
@@AfterEvenfall Try it! It's that kind of a game after playing which a question inevitable is asked by someone: should we play one more time? And as said, it's such a beauty on the table.
