Enjoy! Once again, thank you all for all of the support! This channel exists because of the love we all have for board games. There were some games that shifted on this list and many that made an appearance for the first time. I hope you enjoyed this list! Take care, Solo Knights Sincerely, Solo Board Gaming Knight
I was super happy that you included SW Outer Rim, Resident Evil, and Marvel Legendary--they excel as solo games. Outer Rim has one of the best AI mechanics of any game I've ever played. Exciting list!
As an old and purely solo player, this is a much appreciated video. Even many of the largest, longest established boardgame channels, still largely ignore the solo gamer, even though, I feel, it's a growing demograph. So thank you.
Growing up in the 80’s, I completely missed out on this hobby. Now that my kids are no longer kids, I find myself enjoying solo board gaming a lot. I feel the same as you when it comes to coverage of solo board games. There’s a few channels out there but there definitely needs to be more. I appreciate your comment and I’m glad you found the channel!
The love for board games is so obvious, here. Just achingly respectful of the hobby/pastime/culture/art. The sleeving! The presentation? You gave me close ups so crisp I could see the weaving of the cards. The best kind of card quality! The kind of card quality that makes your fingers shout with joy. Riveting.
Absolutely! I can tell you appreciate the hobby just as much as I do. Getting closeup shots of the board and components is very important to me and I’m glad you noticed. It makes the time and effort put into making a video worth it. I truly enjoyed your comment!
Dude… talk about perfect timing! I’m looking for lots of solo board games/card games I can play to myself in peace and then this video popped up! Absolutely fantastic. Thank you! Great work too!
@@SoloBoardGamingKnight Do you know off the top of your head which of these games have an official one player mode? Only reason I ask is because I noticed some of these games don’t have a solo player mode. I take it with these games you play the role of two players? Is that right?
@@DangerDee Any cooperative game can be played two (or more)-handed solo. However, for true solo only games, these are the games you’re looking for: Final Girl Warp’s Edge Wreckland Run Tamashii has a True Solo Mode Resident Evil has a True Solo Mode Legendary: Marvel has a True Solo Mode G.I. Joe DBG has a True Solo Mode but I prefer playing that two-handed. Marvel Champions Too Many Bones has a True Solo Mode but I prefer playing two-handed Hoplomachus Victorum (huge time commitment required) I hope this helped!
Great list, thank you! I don't have all of them but a good chunk I do have and love them. The one game I'm rating even higher then Oathsworn (especially for solo play) is Isofarian Guard.
I’m glad you enjoyed the list and thank you for joining the conversation! You definitely caught my attention by mentioning Isofarian Guard. I’ll be looking into it.
Somewhere on Endor the sound of Ewoks celebrating resounds--they're applauding your top 20--especially Star Wars Clone Wars and Star Wars Outer Rim!! Can you hear their flutes playing, SBK? The best part of your Top 20 is that you were true to yourself and consistent to the videos you've shared with us on this channel! Thank you, & May The Force Be With You! Happy gaming😊.
I loved your comment, Chris! It brought a huge smile to my face. Thank you! I really enjoyed your kind words and I’m truly happy that you enjoyed it! I heard the flutes! May the force be with you, as well!
Thanks for the list, I can tell you put a lot of time and thought into it! While our tastes don't totally align (I was super disappointed by Adventure Tactics) it's great to see other excellent games like Tales from the Red Dragon Inn up here and newer games I've been interested in like Tamashii.
That’s what it’s all about! We may not share the same opinions but we get to get together and talk about this hobby we all love and are a part of. I’m glad you enjoyed the list and thank you for being part of the conversation (my favorite part of making videos)!
Rulebooks are the most important part of a board game. Companies have to make sure they proofread their rulebooks before printing. When done wrong, reviewers should let everyone know before they invest their hard earned money on a game.
Wow wow wow, what an awesome list, dear Knight, absolutely LOVED IT. So well done! Your videos never ever disappoint, and the effort you put into this is simply inspiring. Thank you for another glorious 20 minutes, my good friend. As always, can't wait for your next upload ❤ A huge high five from me to you. Hope you had an awesome weekend and hope you have a great week! All the best, dear Knight, and see you soon!
Mickey! High five received and another sent right back at you! Thanks! I’m glad you enjoyed the list! It’s always fun to share these with you all! I hope you have a great week , as well. Take care of yourself, Solo Knight!
So happy to see how well this video did for you man. Somehow I got unsubbed from the channel, but when I figured it out I saw these numbers… wow. Nice!
I really enjoyed that video - thanks for taking the time to make it and all those table shots! Theres a few games there I've added to my "check it out" list!
You’re very welcome! I’m glad you enjoyed the video and found a few games to check out! I’m a huge fan of showing multiple shots of the board games I talk about. It makes for a fun video to watch and really helps with proving my points while talking about them.
I love that game so much, bud, it was my 1st ever deck builder, an awesome introduction to the genre. And with the best IP in the world (Alien), no matter what scenario you pick, it's a guaranteed blast 😊
That’s the one that got away! I had seen it at my local store a long while back. The next day, I decided to pick it up but when I got to the store, it was gone. From what I know about it, Legendary Encounters: The Matrix takes a few cues from Alien Encounters.
Enjoy.. I sleeved half of what I have for it (all the expansions) and was too tired to play after LOL but it is an AWESOME game and the best for this series.
@@SoloBoardGamingKnightThe scanning part is from ALIEN. With ALIEN you need to scan to see what the heck crawled onto the duct system!!! Sometimes… is nothing… but sometimes… yikes!!!! And you gotta stop them before they progress into your compound or it’s GAME OVER MAN!!! Hahaha
Ahhhh thanks so much for doing a solo top 20 list! I need to do my top solo games... I think I'm the same as you the I'm attracted to these big campaign crawlers quite a lot. I have tales from the red dragon inn and would love to get my hands on roll player adventures and oathsworn! I loooove Marvel Legendary too. it's a game Id never sell! Awesome list!!! ( apart from vagrant song which I HATED!!! heheh)
Thank you! If you like campaign games, you’re going to love Roll Player Adventures! It feels epic! Oathsworn is REALLY epic! I play it four-handed and love it (although you can play it with just one full character and easier-to-control companions). Good luck with your list!
Oh, I love Mage Knight but it didn’t make it on the list because I haven’t played it in a little while. The last time I played it, I played 3 games back-to-back! Over 9 hours worth of gameplay in just one day. I need to play it again just not as heavily as the last time.
This is so fun to watch and see your enthusiasm! And so many interesting and unique choices like Wreckland Run. Btw have you played the Akihabara Web Scenario for Tokyo Sidekick? I wonder if Sentinels of the Multiverse would be something I enjoy too as I like Tokyo Sidekick very much. Fun solo games I can recommend are The Night Cage and Astroforce The Dice Game.
I’m glad you enjoyed the video! It’s always fun to make them and I appreciate reading comments like yours! I’ll look into the games you recommend. Night Cage is one that I have physically held in my hands on more than one occasion. I’ll definitely give it a try. I had completely forgotten about the Akihabara Web scenario and because you brought it to my attention, I had to order it! I’m glad you mentioned it.
Jonathan! Nice to see you! Ascension Tactics is a good one! Just in case you have a hard time finding it, there is a stand-alone expansion that should be releasing some time this year. It’s called Ascension Tactics: Inferno. It was nice to see you around! Take care.
@@jonathanfryer1319 It was tough limiting the list to only 20-ish games. There were many games that could’ve easily made it on this list and I still would’ve been proud of the list. I’ll let you in on a little side-story that happened while making this video. Every video I make takes weeks and sometimes a month to create (Learning how to play, playing, capturing footage, editing, etc..). This list was supposed to be my 100th video for the channel. After putting over a week’s worth of time actually creating this video (I work on videos at night during my free time), my PC started giving me problems and I almost lost EVERYTHING! I mean, EVERYTHING! Not only the footage for this video but every video and photo that I had for the channel (Thankfully, the cloud saved most of it). At the end, I decided to finish the video and release it as soon as possible, just in case my PC decides to visit digital heaven. I guess all this to say, yeah, this list was tough to make for more than a few reasons! 😂 I know you didn’t expect such a long response but sometimes I just can’t help myself.
@SoloBoardGamingKnight Oh no! That's scary. I've just bought an external hard drive because I think my laptop is about to give up on me. 100th! Congratulations. That's amazing. And everyone appreciates the time you put in. If I could, I'd buy a big cake and put 100 candles in it. And sing... 'Happy review videos from you Happy review videos from you Thanks for entertaining and informingggggg Happy gaming to you'
Great video! It's obvious you put in A LOT of work into your content, it is very much appreciated! I've a question, what solo mode do you use for Marvel Legendary? It's one of the first boardgames I purchased when I started in the hobby, but I only played it a couple times before getting hooked on Aeon's End for deck building. I'd like to go back and give it another shot. Thanks!
Thanks! I sometimes play solo with the solo rules included with Dark City and other times I play two-handed. Both modes are great. Now, Aeon’s end is great, too! I didn’t buy the most recent legacy game but I have everything that has come out before that. Aeon’s End is a phenomenal deck builder and it almost made the list. I have a special storage solution for it to make it easier and quicker to get to the table.
@@SoloBoardGamingKnight Thanks for the reply, I actually have the Dark City expansion but didn’t realize it included solo rules. Will have to give them a try! And, glad you’re also a fan of Aeon’s End! 👍🏼
The expansions add a few of the bosses that were not included in the core box. I bought the expansion with Neptune and Plant 42 because I wanted to fight those bosses. The core box does have a lot of content, though. It has more than enough content to make it worth the price of admission. If you’re like me, however, and you want all of the bosses, you do have to buy the expansions.
I bought the GI Joe Deckbuilding Game after not liking the Transformers one, and after seeing your review. I was not a GI Joe fan at the time but I fell in love with the game and eventually have all the expansions.
Transformers DBG let me down, too. I really wanted to love it but it was a pretty huge miss for me. G.I. Joe DBG is WAY better! That rulebook almost soured the game for me but the gameplay and expansions more than made up for that.
@@SoloBoardGamingKnight I've got about 30 plays logged in now for the game. Buying up GI JOE toys and I'm even cosplaying as Major Bludd for a convention this weekend. Im converted.
@@DarthP00P00 Nice! I grew up in the 80’s when the G.I. Joe craze was at its peak. It was nice to be able to add a game to my collection based on G.I. Joe that managed to capture the feel of the cartoons from back in the day! It’s awesome to see the series live on with people like you bringing the characters to life via cosplay!
What i like about the other expansion decks is that they play very different from each other but still using the core 20 core mechanics. Waiting for the tanglewoods deck and see how it plays
I used to like Marvel a lot more growing up. Not so much anymore but the games shown here were here mostly due to the gameplay rather than the theme. They just managed to be fun games!
I bought both the playmat and the upgraded tokens on the publishers website Renegade. Here’s the link to their website: renegadegamestudios.com/search.php?search_query=Warp’s%20edge I think out of both of those, the upgraded tokens are the most important and useful because they really help with the actual gameplay. The playmat is just a nice bonus to have.
@@SoloBoardGamingKnight Forgot to say thanks for the info. Never even crossed my mind to look up if they had a web store themself, nearly spent a lot more on etsy. Got them delivered a few weeks ago.
@@Alex-hc1ls One thing about me is that I enjoy a whole bunch of different games/genres. Although I haven’t played Frostpunk, I’m pretty sure if I had the chance to play it, I’d love it from what I’ve seen.
The oniverse games are fun, but they're miles away from the depth offered in any of the games on this list, to be frank. It's like comparing Solitaire to Bridge 😂 Only my opinion, of course.
Alas, I found that approximately 1 minute per game in describing the game was far too shallow. There is not enough content to warrant making actual purchasing decisions.
Good thing that there’s a review on the channel for almost every game shown here 😉. If not, the video would be too long and long videos, going by my experience, tend to not be watched.
@@SoloBoardGamingKnight, true, long videos are not as popular. But I don’t recall any mentions that there were full reviews of the games also available. A mention every 3-4 games would have been useful. Why are there no links to the reviews in the description?
@@soloflo I checked and it’s not there anymore!! The power in the house has been out for the past two days. I just received power and your comment was one of the first things I noticed. Too bad!! I would’ve bought it
@@SoloBoardGamingKnight I checked for you again and it was still available not sure if you checked again. Sentinels of the Multiverse Definitive Edition.
It’s always nice to hear from you, Paper Smith! I’m glad you liked the video and found a few new games to add to your list! Your comment cheered me up! We’re even now 🙂
Yeah, it shocked me, too. I knew I was going to like it but it surpassed any expectations I had. It’s a great all-around game and one that actually plays as good as it looks. The expansions are really good, too.
Roll player adventure is the only big rpg i have ever completed. I had both oathsworn, iss vanguard, isofarian guard and jaws of the lion, but I sold them all before even reach half way. Big recommendations!
Timestamps are found in the pinned comment. Usually, timestamps are automatically added to the description box in a day or so after the video has been released. If not, I can add them manually, later.
LOL you don’t know how much of a timestamp fanatic he is hahaha you must have posted that comment not too long after he first uploaded. I am always stunned by the detail he puts into timestamps especially for his livestreams!
Thanks for mentioning Tales of The Red Dragon Inn! I just late-backed the Kickstarter. Are there any expansions for the game? How's the replayability? Still purchasing but curious on your thoughts.
@@ChinDogToshi There have been no expansions announced for it, that I know of. As far as replayability goes, each character has their own set of abilities that make them feel and play in a unique way. There are also unlocks that you can obtain giving you even more options to choose from when it comes to abilities which allow you to mix things up even further. When it comes to the story, once you know what happens, you’ll know what to expect the second time around but the gameplay is fun. The way enemies activate ensures that the scenarios won’t play out exactly the same way. That’s also due to the initiative, as well. Overall, I think you’re in for a treat! Enjoy!
Finally had time to watch this morning!!! Amazing list(s) and thanks for taking the time to make this video! Really enjoyable, and I was just thinking when is FG gonna be on the list (surprised it’s not inducted into the Round Table). When you put out #1 I was surprised, whoa, no MC? No Bones? No HV? Haha! I am happy to know I got many of your top choices. Man, 150+ games… and you know the rulebook for all of them hahaha. I think what you really need is to go and get a copy of LEGENDARY ENCOUNTERS ALIEN because that one is the BEST of all of them and you will rave about it on your channel once you do manage to get a copy, finally. I haven’t gotten any new games recently as I have been clearing up space but I managed to clear out a spot for one or two more games now LOL so we will see what 2024 brings!! Anyway it is really hard to rank the top games, once you get up to the top 10 space, there are probably 20 games that deserve to be in the top 10 haha, good job!
Glad you got to watch it! I would’ve put FG as a Knight of the Round Table but I secretly wanted to talk about it again! It will end up with the KotRT in the future. I could’ve put another 30 on this list and I still think every game would’ve deserved to be part of a Top 10. This list was tough to make because so many of these games are really good! I slept on Legendary Aliens and I’m still kicking myself for that. I made sure not to make the same mistake with The Matrix. If it’s anything like Aliens, it’ll be hard to find in a few years. Thanks again for showing up!
Zombicide is such a good game. And theres so many differences genres of it. Aliens in space, midevil, wildwest, marvel. Take your pick im sure youll have fun. It does well solo and does great a group. Also is you like painting minis or using minis then you are set! I own black plague with both expansions. Played solo and with family. Painted half the minis and its been amazing. Only thing with the zombicide games is i would buy a storage for all its components. Other then that amazing game!
@@ITookYourBic I agree. Once I received the stretch goals and expansion, the amount of variety in Heroes, Zombie Heroes and missions really elevated MZ and it quickly became one of my favorite board games. My son and I played several days this past summer until late in the night and we had an absolute blast! My son enjoyed MZ so much that he actually got into the hobby with me and ended up playing several other games, as well.
@@guillermoyaroslavlverduzco1551 I’ll actually keep that in mind. A bunch of games I’ve showcased on the channel have been recommended by viewers of the channel.
The only thing holding me back is that I already fell in the LCG hole called Marvel Champions. I’m afraid of loving Arkham Horror and falling into another LCG craze. Everything I’ve seen and read about it is great. I know I would love it and that scares me.
@@SoloBoardGamingKnight Just want to chime in that AHLCG is freaking GREAT. I own the Marvel Champions core, but haven't played it, so I can't make a comparison. But, I can tell you that it is indeed a hole you'd probably fall into. Having said that, now that they're releasing full campaign expansions as opposed to individual Mythos Packs, it is definitely the time to dive in. Just saying. 😄
@@joxer96 I’m pretty confident that I will agree with you and that scares me. Knowing me, eventually I’m going to take the dive and end up with a bunch of expansions for the game. Everyone speaks so highly of the game and I have a very strong feeling that they’re all right.
@@SoloBoardGamingKnight Yeah…it’s a scary prospect for sure. But man, do I love that LCG. It’s my number one game. It helps that I’m a big Lovecraft fan, some people just can’t get into the theme. Be sure to let us know if you ever take the plunge. Hopefully you won’t be disappointed.
Nice video. You gave me some good advice for games I do not own. Some advice for you: - "Cloudspire", is my favourite game. - "Assassin's Creed Brotherhood of Venice". It is a cooperative stealth campaign game. Really nice. - "Frostpunk", which is a Euro cooperative scenario-based game. few more campaign games... "Cthulhu Death May Die", "Gloomhaven, Jaws of the Lions", "Sword and Sorcery", few more card games..."Imperium Legends", "Sentinels of the Multiverse: Definitive Edition"..Ciao!!!
Cloudspire and Cthulhu DMD are both on my “To Buy” list. I didn’t get Assassins Creed because I didn’t know if it was good but now I’ll look into it. The only thing keeping me away from Sentinels of the Multiverse is the fear of wanting it all (like what happened to me with Marvel Champions). I tend to have a “Want-All-Expansions” problem when playing a game I like. Thanks for the recommendations! I really appreciate that you shared some games with me, too. I’ve mentioned this before on the channel but I actually take into consideration the recommendations that I receive. Thanks again!
G.I. Joes Deckbuilder deserves all the love it gets (yes, the rulebook wasnt' the best). The expansions are kind of new seasons of the show since you don't really just incorporate it all into the base game.
It’s got some of my favorite expansions of all my games. You can mix the some of the expansions into the core but it’s a hassle and better played the way you described it. It also makes for a quicker setup and teardown, if you don’t mix anything together. It also makes sense if you think about it episodically.
Thank you for an upload. It’s really fantastic list. One question: is there in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: City Fall random player order implemented as in Batman? Cheers.
Thanks! I appreciate that you enjoyed the video! Yes, there is an initiative deck just like Batman. It really is a reskin of the same game almost. The biggest difference being the character abilities and scenarios. Hope this helps!
Your enthusiasm for final girl is what pushed me over the edge to diving in, and it’s one of my favorite gaming experiences I’ve had. You’re making it real tough to not buy oathsworn!
Your comment made me laugh! Since I grew up watching all of the slasher flicks from the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s, especially while working at Blockbuster, Final Girl just hit that perfect spot for me. It had pretty much everything I look for in a solo game and it was a spoof on practically every iconic slasher flick I watched growing up. It felt like the game was made for me. Awesome game! Oathsworn is much more complex (although it’s easy once you get the hang of it and understand the rules) than Final Girl but it is really epic! I hate using that word but it’s the only way I can describe it. The biggest downside is the amount of table space it takes up. I play with 4 full characters and that takes up A LOT of space. Other than that, it doesn’t get better than Oathsworn when it comes to combat. Thanks for your comment. I really enjoyed reading what you thought. Hopefully your wallet survives! My wallet felt lighter for a month or so after I bought it.
Tmnt and Batman for the win 👍 was pumped for that. Dice throne looks great, i hope the new Marvel version on kickstarter should be awesome solo. Too bad i never got into Marvel Legendary, it looks great but i could only go all in for one amd Marvel Champions hit that marvel itch. I would wanna play it one day.
I agree with everything you wrote here! X-Men Dice Throne has me excited and I can’t wait to play it! Always good to see Batman and TMNT fans! Eventually, I stopped buying expansions for Legendary Marvel not because I don’t like it but because my collection of that and Marvel Champions is getting out-of-hand. Too much is out for it but I’m more than happy with what has released. They both feel different enough from one another. It was fun reading your comment!
I actually asked myself the same question before I started playing Oathsworn. I took about two hours looking over all of the available heroes and went over both their cards (full character) and their companion cards. I ended up playing with 4 full characters. Despite what I had heard others say, it wasn’t difficult to control 4 full characters at a time. The thing that you have to consider most is how much play space you have on the table. I used two small tables on the side. One to place the boss cards and the other to place a full character. If it wasn’t for those two small tables, I would’ve played 2 full and 2 companions. Hope this helps!
One of my favorite solo games is The Witcher Old World and today, playing my Kickstarter version for the first time with the "On the Trail of Monsters" expansion, the combat changes from trivial to unpredictable and more demanding. In the last fight, keeping the last 4 cards in my hand and making combinations with exactly 6 damage left to the monster... the overwhelming impression and satisfaction of winning 🤗. I can't believe why this add-on is not included in the standard, retail version (?)... how much this game can lose without it 😱!
Although I haven’t played The Witcher board game (I have played the video games 1-3), I understand what you mean about necessary content relegated to expansions. Expansions like that can really do a lot to increase the enjoyment of many board games. Not having them can make you feel as if you are missing out on the full experience.
I could recommend it to anyone who played The Witcher without this expansion and replaced 4 cards, even by inserting a piece of paper with a note into the sleeve with these cards. Then wrote down the effects of each monster somewhere in the notebook relating to those cards and saw the difference. There are still weaknesses for each monster, but this would be a bit more troublesome. From the first time I played it, it was one of my favorite board game, even more so now with the expansion
Thank you! A lot of things are happening behind the scenes in my daily life. Just as with you and everyone else, life gets really busy. I’m glad to be able to release a video whenever I get a chance.
It’s funny, I just responded to another comment letting them know that there is a stand-alone expansion releasing for it. I can’t wait for Inferno, either!
@@tiredguy2753 Unfortunately, the earliest it will release will be this fall, if everything goes well. There were some production issues. The wait continues a little bit longer.
