I genuinely do not understand how Ghoulia got SUCH a major glow down in g3. It blows my mind how gorgeous she was and how badly they made her look now. I love Cleo, she is my favorite, but how does she get to look so good in g3 and Ghoulia so bad? It’s really not fair. Sad.

I also love when monster high had clothes that felt like things real people would wear but with a monstery twist. The earlier years of MH did this sooo well as they weren’t in your face about the fact that they were monsters and due to that this era produced some of the most timeless dolls of the franchise and became the most coveted era of MH. They are truly my favorite type of dolls to collect. I really disliked when they started printing the clothes with 8 million things that correlate with what monster they were around late 2012/2013 and the reused silhouettes and big plastic chunky pieces. Just felt too on the nose and not as special/thought out, and I truly feel like that played a role in the fall of G1. And it kept progressively getting worse as you moved into years like 2014, 2015, and 2016. There are still really amazing dolls from these eras that dont fully follow this format (or just look really good in general), but the majority do follow it. Some of the better dolls that came out of the “tacky era” I think of are the I Heart Shoes Draculaura & Cleo, FCA Elissabat & Clawdia, IHF Cleo/Clawdeen/Scarah/Venus, New Scaremester as a whole, Sweet Screams (they pull it off well), and a few other dolls/lines. Im not the biggest fan of G3 (like at all) but Im glad they aren’t shifting towards that direction as G1 sadly did. It seems that Mattel has learned their lesson.
