Finn McKenty has no room to talk about anything being cringe 😅 anyway good choices out of the albums I've heard here. Quite a few I haven't so will have to check them out.
Great picks! As soon as I saw the title, I was thinking Blind Guardian is for sure #1, let's see what else he picked haha! Pretty similar taste to myself, I would have lots of these in my list as well. I did one of these a while ago and I think I had Rhapsody #2 and BG #1 as well, Guardian is just the best out there by a mile!
well i've been listening to power metal for almost 20 years now so I could share my list . not in order though. blind guardian - imaginations from the other side virgin steele- marriage of heaven and hell pt 2 ancient bards - souless child sonata arctica- ecliptica nightwish- oceanborn rhapsody- power of the dragonflame dragonforce - sonic firestorm alestorm- capitan morgan's revenge unleash the archers- abyss stratovarius- visions iced earth - something wicked this way comes vision divine - the perfect machine gamma ray- somewhere out in space avantasia- the metal opera part 1 edguy- hellfire club helloween- keeper 2 hammerfall- glory to the brave Sabaton- the art of war Angra-angels cry Manowar -kings of metal ( if they count as power metal ) symphony x - V the new mythology suite kamelot - the black halo
Yoo Questy! Love the fact that you're adding underground stuff in your list! I knew you'd dig Numenor 😄 Here's two more for your blackened power metal fix, cheers! Pegasus - End of the Quest Runeshard - Dreaming Spire
Wow this is the best video you've done in a while! Completely in my comfort zone. So glad Virgin Steele were included! Some of these bands are really underrated. If you love Savage Circus and Blind Guardian - the singer of Savage Circus was in another band called Persuader - they are ESSENTIAL for any Power Metal fan. It's like Blind Guardian meets Thrash. One of the heaviest Power Metal bands!
My favorite all time Power Metal albums are Blind Guardian "Nightfall On Middle Earth," Sabaton "The Great War," and Sonata Arctica "Winterhearts Guild"Awesome list Questy!
1. Stratovarius- Visions 2. Stratovarius- Episode 3. Sonata Arctica- Silence 4. Sonata Arctica- Ecliptica 5. Blind Guardian- Imaginations from the other side Helloween up there to
You are awesome for picking The Days of Grays. SA was beloved back in the early days, but I have seen a ton of hate for them this past decade or so and not sure why (admittedly their newer albums are no good, maybe that's the main reason)
Power Metal, one of the first genres I got acquainted with through Rhapsody and Avantasia;loved it,still do. Should really get to listen to Blind Guardian at some point.
Power metal is probably my favourite metal genre so many good bands. It’s just go damn good and always puts a smile on my face it’s just so much fun to listen too 🤟
My top 10: Avantasia-The Wicked Symphony Edguy-Hellfire Club Custard-Realm of Tales Elvenpath-Faith through the Fire Orden Ogan-Easton Hope Iced Earth-Something Wicked Jag Panzer-Machanized Warfare Grand Magus-Triumph and Power Rob Rock-Rage of Creation Twisted Tower Dire-Crest of the Martyrs I thing you dont know most of the Bands but small Power Metal Bands are always the best
Interesting list! I don't think our power metal tastes overlap that much but we both at least know what the best Blind Guardian album is! Mine's a little more skewed towards wacky Japanese stuff and old '80s bands that border either on thrash or heavy metal: 20) Stranger - Sailing Out 19) Heathen - Breaking the Silence 18) Helloween - Walls of Jericho 17) Kokumaromilk - Shojo Shofu 16) Crimson Glory - Crimson Glory 15) Galneryus - One for All, All for One 14) Matenrou Opera - Anomie 13) X Japan - Jealousy 12) Unlucky Morpheus - Evolution 11) Light Bringer - Genesis 10) Versailles - Holy Grail 9) Kamijo - Sang 8) Aria - Playing with Fire 7) Blind Guardian - Somewhere Far Beyond 6) Manilla Road - Open the Gates 5) Metal Church - Blessing in Disguise 4) Manilla Road - Open the Gates 3) Aion - Aion 2) Aphasia - Labyrinth in My Heart 1) Fates Warning - No Exit Honorable mentions go to Virgin Steele's Age of Consent, Running Wild's Pile of Skulls, Lost Horizon's A Flame to the Ground Beneath (I like Flame to the Ground Beneath too; also their death metal project Luciferion is fantastic), Adramelch's Irae Melanox, Pharaoh's Be Gone, Twisted Tower Dire's Curse of Twisted Tower (and even more than that, their demos), Dark Quarterer's Etruscan Prophecy, Queensrÿche's Rage for Order, Sacred Oath's Crystal Vision, Griffin's Protectors of the Lair, Armageddon's Tears of a King Bird, Vicious Rumors' Digital Dictator, Iced Earth's Night of the Stormrider, and Chorny Kofe's Life Never Waits. There's also a lot of albums like Artillery's By Inheritance, most of the Tony Martin era of Black Sabbath, most of the '80s / early '90s stuff from Anthem and Loudness, all of Terra Rosa's discography, the first three Children of Bodom albums, pre '02 In Flames, the first three Rainbow albums, Scorpion's third through fifth albums, the first five Candlemass albums (especially Ancient Dreams and Chapter VI are very power metal), both Crypt Sermon albums, Memento Mori's Rhymes of Lunacy, Exorcist's Nightmare Theatre, most of the Dio catalogue, the first four Ozzy albums, and Saber Tiger's first five albums that I listen to when I'm in the mood for power metal stuff but are way too blended with other genres to be strictly called power metal. True black metallers listen to power and glam!
Can’t be kvlt without embracing the kvte 🦄 and that’s a great list for people who want more of the other side of power metal which admittedly my list is lacking
It is absolutely a must that you play Legendary Tales paired with Symphony Of Enchanted Lands I also enjoy all of the Rhapsody/Rhapsody Of Fire that Christopher Lee are on he was a real life BAD ASS I find Epica blends Symphonic Metal with Gothic, Progressive, Death with a sprinkle of Thrash, Power and Folk Metal any way you put together a great list you can't go wrong with any of the albums 🖤💀🦇💣⚡️🤘
some nice picks!, the choice of sonata's days of grays surprised me. its not my favorite by far...but still good. of course rhapsody , blind guardian and so on. you got taste my friend.
Cool list and a few new bands/albums for me to check out. My top5 Power Metal Bands are: Rhapsody, Blind Guardian, Power Quest, Edguy and Marius Danielsen. A little surprised to see no Edguy or Avantasia on your list.
I gotta give the 3rd D&W another listen. I have it on CD but it's been mainly collecting dust after a couple of listens. The first one is definitely my favorite
If someone asks me what power metal is, every time I will respond with: helloween - march of time.. That chorus is unbeatable. If all power metal bands are types of drinks, march of time is the water.
It actually makes sense your taste in music if you think about it in a fantasy setting.Black Metal are the cult of chaos priests,Doom especially funeral doom are the constantly employed funeral workers and Power are the order of paladins fighting the chaos priests
Great to see Orden Ogan here, used to listen to them a lot wayyy back. Anyhow In no particular order (I'm probably forgetting a few as I haven't listened to PM for many years): Orden Ogan - To The End Helloween - Master of the Rings HammerFall - Glory to the Brave Gamma Ray - No World Order Avantasia - The Mystery of Time Crystallion - Hundred Days Human Fortress - Raided Land Instanzia - Ghosts
My favorite power Metal album is definitely Imaginations From The Other Side, literally perfect in every way Edit: Omg Finally someone who loves The Days Of Grays as much as me, it’s also my favorite Sonata Arctica Album, but Unia and Winterheart‘s Guild are basically on the same level for me
Days of Grey's is great, it's heavier and faster than Unia, but in my opinion the melodies and songwriting on Unia, Days Of Gray's is just as good as Reckoning Night and Silence, and the fabs were too quick to reject it, those albums are really focused and interesting. Its only the albums after that start trying to please everyone and feel uneven, and production issues let down 9th hour from being what it could've been. Hoping the new album is just a quality release, I don't care if it's like Ecliptica or Silence, I just want it to be as strong and focused as Days of Grays. By the way, Everything Fades to Gray is so epic. And Deathaura is an insane opening track they've never done anything like again.
@@PalaceMidasMusic literally, that’s how I feel! Unia was an excellent break from their usual style, combining their very fast and melodic brand of Power Metal with more progressive Songwriting and in my opinion it resulted in their magnum opus, because it worked out perfectly, but I have a stronger emotional connection to The Days of Grays, as it is kind of a swan song for my being a fan of the band as a whole ^^
Virgin Steele is my favorite band of all time! I would call them more Heavy Metal instead of Power Metal as their sound is closer to Savatage and early Manowar instead of Blind Guardian, Iced Earth or Stratovarius. I love Sabbath, Priest and Maiden, but to me Steele reaches higher points! (And much lower on their newest albums) 😅
Hallo , für mich sind diese Alben besonders: Manilla Road - Mystification🎸💥 Exciter - Unveiling the Wicked 🎸💥 Blitzkrieg - Absolut Power 🎸💥 Grim Reaper - See You In Hell 🎸💥 GWAR - Lust in Space 🎸💥 Ich grüße alle Metal Fans 🐦⬛Rabe666🐦⬛ 🇩🇪♠️
Blind Guardian n Avantasia were my introduction to power metal 18 years ago! A twist in the myth (though not a fan fav was my first album n will always hold a special place in my heart) and of course Tobias Sammets two Metal Operas 🤘
good list. if I had to recommend something that’s not on it for anyone else I’d suggest Ancient Bards - The Alliance of the Kings: The Black Crystal Sword Saga Pt.1
Far from my favorite genre, but my top 5 would be: Helloween - Better Than Raw Blind Guardian - Nightfall in Middle Earth Masterplan - Masterplan Kamelot - The Black Halo Tad Morose -Modus Vivendi
I like ALL metal, but Power Metal IS lower on my list, and I mostly don't get into the European style BUT Angel Dust has 3 Classic BANGERS in a row with Border of Reality, Bleed and Enlighten the Darkness. They ALL Kick Ass!
I listen to a ton of metal, but power metal has largely eluded me. I like a few bands like Blind Guardian, but this list will be a good introduction to some deeper cuts. I think my favorite “newer” power metal band is Visigoth.
In no ranking order and only one band each. I dont really listen to power metal much anymore but i'll have to change that soon. Avantasia - The Metal Opera Blind Guardian - Nightfall In Middle Earth Demons & Wizards - s/t Dark Moor - The Hall of the Olden Dreams Domine - Dragonlord (Tales of the Noble Steel) Ed Guy - King of Fools ep Gamma Ray - No World Order Hammerfall - Glory to the Brave Heavenly - Sign of the Winner Helloween - Keeper of the Seven Keys part2 Iced Earth - Night of the Stormrider Iron Savior - Dark Assault Jag Panzer - Thane to the Throne Kamelot - Karma Labyrinth - Sons of Thunder Manowar - Louder than Hell Metalium - State of Triumph chapter 2 Mob Rules - Temple of Two Suns Montany - New Born Day Mystic Prophecy - Regressus Nevermore - s/t (kinda hard to place them in a genre because of their mixed style) Nocturnal Rites - Afterlife (sometimes its their 3rd album and sometimes its their 6th. But this album was my favorite the most) Omen - Battle Cry Rhapsody - Dawn of Victory Luca Turilli - Prophet of the Last Eclipse Silent Force - Infatuator Sonata Arctica - Winterheart's Guild Stratovarius - Infinite Symfonia - In Paradisum Symphony X - The Divine Wings of Tragedy Tad Morose - Leaving the Past Behind (they were more progressive here reminds me of Tony Martin era Sabbath meets Evergrey. First 2 albums and ep are the best and features their original singer. Absolutely Amazing albums) Virgin Steele - Invictus (hard one to decide because i like The Marriage of Heaven and Hell pts 1 and 2 and the Atreus albums) Warlord - Deliver Us (entire discography is good plus the Lordian Guard albums)
I'd have to add Edguy, Bloodbound (early stuff) and Civil War. Admittedly all the power metal albums I like are from at least 12 years ago, it's a genre I was really into and then didn't keep up with. It feels like it's not as popular anymore, but I don't know if I just need to look harder. Any new band/album recommendations out there?
I'm the weird person that would put Blind Guardian's A Night at the Opera at the top, even though I didn't like it at first. Saw Blind Guardian live last month, great concert! My choice from Rhapsody would have been Dawn of Victory, but I also love most of the other stuff Luca Turilli put out under a million different names. There were some bands here I didn't know, so you gave me something to listen to later. You can never have enough gay metal.
Good list I'm with it about 80% but for me you've left out the motherlode early US PM Jag Panzer Agent Steel Omen but also Running Wild ah you just mentioned them haha subjective of course
Thrash Metal, Speed Metal and Power Metal are nearly the same it just depends what vocal style you prefer most. Power Metal is ok I don't listen to it very often. I listen to pretty much only Thrash Metal and Black Sabbath lol and OSDM.
Check an 1980s German band named Whetstone and its 1988 demo particularly. Classic heavy/power/speed tih a voice similar to Hansi. Also, no power metal list is compelte without Heavens Gate and the album Living In Hysteria. From the same year with Rhapsody and Hammerfall's debuts we have Domine 's Champion Eternal which is amazing epic heavy/power metal
Personally, I would've added The Savage Poetry from Edguy and Crimson Thunder from HammerFall. I love Keeper of the Seven Keys Pt. 1, but you know I prefer Part 2, even though both albums are power metal masterpieces. Also, how about Hall of the Mountain King from Savatage when it comes to US Power Metal?
@@Questformetal I always thought Hall of the Mountain King was a mixture of US Power Metal and Traditional Heavy Metal. It's really a coin flip to be completely honest.
Why not Ayreon? Arjen Lucassen is great. Even his Star One where he takes sci fi movies and make a song. If you into sci fi you should first see if you can get the names and then check. Its a fun game. On all 3 albums I had about all correct, but not full marks. His collaboration and helping bands, such as Guild Machine is awsome.
Wow, The Days Of Grays is a reeeaaally strange pick! Yes Flag In The Ground is amazing and it had some other great tracks, but the rest is just not that great. Ecliptica, Silence and Reckoning Night are some of the best metal albums. I respect your choice though
Great list! Thank you for doing this Questy! Love every band/ album in here (even the ones I don't know I'm sure they'll be right up my ally). Even though your channel is centered around black metal, I love the fact that you give love to lots of different metal genres. For anyone who might be interested, I'm attempting to start my own channel of similar nature and I'm trying to get my first video out there which is my top 50 albums of last year. I'm hoping to have more stuff coming soon. I'll drop the link right here for those who are curious: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uXXRwOq42Ak.html Thanks in advance to all people who decide to give it a shot! 😄
Tommy Lee Jones got dropped on his head as a baby. don't get your pink panties in a twist brah brah death metal is true metal brah brah doom is for stoners and metalcore is for posers brah braaaaaah I go to the gym do you bench press brah braaaah (descends into hilarious but incoherent homophobic gatekeeping and ranting in a bid for more clicks and subs).
Far for being confined to power metal, structurewise Satan's Host include a great deal of extreme metal approach, an original blend of blackened power thrash death, unique band and songwriting
I think From Hell With Love was one of the best Power Metal albums of the past 20 years. Disco Metal? Dance Metal? Synthwave 80’s Pop Power Metal? Yeah maybe but it’s irresistible and over the top!
