Looking at the mistakes that you made in order to figure out what needs to change is an essential step in becoming a better hunter. That said, if you are also able to learn from someone else's mistakes and not make them yourselves, you will be able to improve even faster!
In this video I wanted to talk about our Top 3 Mistakes from the 2022 Hunting Season. Hopefully you are able to learn from our shortcomings and not make these mistakes in the future!

Thanks for sharing your mistakes. I have 2000 feet of property line that adjoins state land, I understand your frustration. These guys sit on the line and always try to walk in when they shoot something, never asking for permission. When they do ask I usually track it for them and ask them to wait. That way if it leaves my property, I let them know where and the next land owners contact info.

That has to be tough. I'm not a fan of sitting directly on the fence. But you are absolutely right, you should always try to be present with someone as they track through your property. It's better for everyone involved. Not being present for that track was by far our biggest mistake of the season.

Lol. That’s exactly how I try to explain the “Choke” to the better half. Great analogy. You practice all year long, and when the big chance comes……. UGH!

As I’m listening to this video I’m in my basement shooting my bow as it’s 14 degrees outside. I shoot every single day of the year either in or outside after dinner. Have a shot trainer I use when out of town. I shoot only 30 PERFECT arrows each night. 🦌🦌🦌

-25C and 32 inch snowfall dumps prevented me from hunting most the season, nevermind making mistakes.

Dang man that's though. Is that typical for your area?

@@whitetailevolution it is, but not at the times it happened, this past season. October was too warm to be out, pretty much. Then right before the approaching rut, we got a couple huge dumps of snow, then plummeting temps. And those carried on right until the season was over. Normally, we'll get an early dump of snow, but the cold snaps aren't until january and february. This year, it was all early, and january/february are much warmer than normal. What i learned from this season, is to not pass on any early opportunities anymore. I usually don't even start really hunting until november, waiting on some snow and cooler temps. But this year was a doozy, and threw a wrench. We are allowed 3 deer, so i'll now be always looking to punch an early whitetail, to get meat in the freezer.

Hunters, Start with some basic pretexts. Use the wind to blow your sent away from your point of entry. Hunt the highlands for steady winds. Use strategica terrain features that are so obvious that they are often overlooked. Edges inside and outside corners. If you are hunting a state that baiting is banned Fertilize a white oak tree prune and fertilize an Apple 🍎 tree Enjoy! 🏹🦌🏹🐗🏹🦌🏹🐗

I'm in central lower MI, who logged your property as it looks good from the video and not a mess like I've seen from other properties being logged or TSI?
@whitetailevolution
@whitetailevolution Год назад
Hey Greg, we were going to use Maple Ridge Hardwoods, I think they are out of Sterling MI. They seemed like really good guys and our forestor had a good relationship with them. As of right now we probably aren't going to get the property logged, the only access on and off the property is down our 500 yard paved driveway and the cost to repair the driveway after the operation would be more than what we would get for the timber.. so right now it looks like it's going to be me with a chainsaw lol.

Sterling? Not Sterling Heights... I had to look that one up because I have a place in Sterling Heights. Sterling on the other hand, is very small- population 474 and shrinking apparently. Anyway - Good video 👍🏽 That sucks about missing that shot at 100yds & closing - practice def makes all the difference. As far as that whole ordeal with that guy (trespassing) on your other property tracking a few drops of blood after (more than likely) shooting to wound the deer & then upon being given an inch by you & taking a couple a few miles or more in a grid search, putting his dumbass scent all over your shit- totally f**kin' it up for y'all just before the season - Man, seriously though 👿 I'm not FROM out that way-- Michigan-- my fiancee is, and idk what the law is technically - but here in NH the "Live Free Or Die" state, (also known for having the most registered fully automatic guns per capita in the US... just a fun fact... So The biggest thing is - and again idk if Michigan is like here or not, but here, that guy would have been target practice- trespassing? Shoot first ask questions later - and rest assured knowing that you're ALWAYS in the right, if you're protecting your own land-- armed or not - although everyone is VERY armed at all times and so, we don't have much trespassing going on around here, but when we do - it's never going to mess with my hunting. Speaking of which - Nov 8th was the day 1 of regular/Rifle season - Gotta get back out for an afternoon hunt - gotta nice one waiting for me... Good luck this year and great video... PS I'm handy with my Husqvarnas - just got the newest XP 550 mark 2, would be happy to help next time I'm out there.

How do you think those mistakes affected the hunting season overall?
@whitetailevolution
@whitetailevolution Год назад
Great question and I'll address each one individually. The first one had an impact on the property behind our house but I can't say for sure how severe it was since this was our first year there and I have nothing to compare it to. From hunting other properties for many years I can say that the daylight deer movement behind the house was much less than others. But it is about what I expected after having so many people walking around the property throughout the fall. We had deer / bucks show up on the property but we pushed them off with all of the activity. The second mistake didn't really impact me since I wasn't the one who took the shot but the guy who missed was pretty down on himself afterwards. Just need to learn from it, practice more and capitalize next time. The 3rd mistake had a massive negative impact on our season. We were getting a few hundred pictures a day up until that point, many of the bucks we were hoping to get a chance at. After our neighbor walked all over the property looking for his deer we saw a major drop in movement. The next day we only got 3 pictures of deer total. It slowly increased over the next week and half but it took about a week and half to two weeks before the movement was about the same as what it was before the track. Because we wait to push into what are normally higher odds stands we never really got an opportunity to hunt that unpressured deer on that property. It's unfortunate but that will happen from time to time, our biggest mistake was not having a relationship with this guy and setting an expectation as to how we want to handle tracking / recovering deer. We have relationships with other neighbors and are pretty good at getting deer out without overpressuring. While there is always an impact on the property, if we were present for the track it would have been much less and likely isolated to only one section on the property, not the entire thing. So this one had a big impact on the season.
