For low stakes grinders trying to build a roll, it's noteworthy that live full ring has lower std deviation and higher bb/100 winrates (crushers in soft pools can obtain >10bb/hr which is >30bb/100). Pretty low bankroll required for reasonable risk of ruin
great advice. i recently started playing again used a 5 BI strategy. I ran hot and 20x my BR in 5000 hands. Then I downsing to 8x and dropped back to 50 BI for a breather. Wild ride and feels bad to more than half my BR over a one week, but I'm not gonna sit around in the low stakes forever. Gotta take shots or go nowhere.
I thought aggressive bankroll management is what killed people 15 years ago and the new people learned to keep much higher bankrolls. I don’t know if this makes sense? I feel like ror is very high at 20
Shot at 20 and move down at 18 is very reasonable if you have 3bb/100 or better winrate but if you are not winning at that rate definetly have more buyins
For NL500+ professional grinders who can still win at highstakes.. is there a better way to utilize your bankroll. If you're willing to be fluid through 500, 1k, 2k there must be a way to get high yearly income without needing a massive bankroll. Avoiding having to lock up 200k+ in cash would be likely very profitable. Example if you always have 50k, so you can pay your bills at NL500, but can be very aggressive outside of that 50k for 1k, 2k. Wanting to get into the lab and figure something out with this and I think proper risk management is worth a lot of $$. There must be some combination of ROR and Kelly criterion to do this? Have you looked into this?
Probably the best way is to just take small shots aggressively above $50k if that's the minimum you want to have in your bankroll. If you lose the shot, go back to 500nl until you have enough to take another shot. Assuming your win rate is positive at each stake, the highest EV strategy will usually be to play as much volume as possible at the highest stakes you can play, but it's also the highest variance strategy.
@@mobiuspoker Yeah I have played with the idea of being a complete nit for X stake. Then using kelly criteria above it, and if it dumps rebuild from the base. Thanks!
One tip I think is really helpful.. You don't have to make a complete level leap. Play half your tables at your current limit and the other half at the next limit.
You and your brother are big on game selection yet you both advocate for online where WR is much lower. What’s the reason for this? I understand volume but wouldn’t taking shots at soft live games make a lot of sense when moving up and building a roll?
It depends whether you want to be an online player or a live player. I'm an online player so I try to stay within my area of expertise and speak in the context of online, but you can also apply these concepts to live poker.
i have 6500 USD banrkoll, been playing nl25 zoom for 500k hands with winrate of 4.2bb/100 (+2bb/100 from RB) but im so scared to play higher stakes because in most spots i have no clue what gto looks like. I am waiting for the "right" moment
