So Craig I can agree and/or understand your disappointment list. The main ones being RE Village & GTA. Now Village considering I was intending to get all achievements I actually caught your stream when you were going for platinum and you made good points. I haven't even finished my 2nd playthrough because I couldn't be bothered to finish Village of Shadows. GTA Trilogy lol I defended kinda but I mainly have all my playtime in GTA 3 and Vice City, never touched San Andreas because I heard about the issues and still haven't to this day. Anyway keep up the great content Craig!
I'm so fucking pissed that they deliberately fucked up GTA, taking a mobile port and making it a full blown console "definitive edition" what in the fuck whos idea was that. Someone end that man's entire career, please!
Struggling to find a good game in a year is why I don't play games at launch. That and it's cheaper to play older games. Ever thought of making a "Games I played in (current year)"? It'll probably be easier to make
Well.. Then The best game I played in 2021 is "lego: City Undercover". I heard the game was kid GTA and It was on sale for 3 dollars so I was like "f##k it". I bought it and it's surprised the hell out of me. It actually really good.
I'm gonna go with "It takes two" for my favorite game with a special mention of "Tormented souls", I really enjoyed that game. On the other hand, we have Battlefield 2042 (a.k.a Battlefield 20 42 fps) for the most disappointing game of this year. In my case, I liked RE:Village
Your choices for top 4 best are spot on. I watched your Burnout video after playing it on a whim the night before, and it was so exactly how I feel that I had to dive into your channel. Two videos in and I don't think I've ever come across a channel more in line with my preferences. That said, the other game I really had a good time with in 2021 was Outriders.
Good video as always! My top 5 1: Psychonauts 2 2: TBoI: Repentance (Because it's that good) 3: Spookware (Only the first chapter, but shut up!) 4: The Forgotten City 5: If on a Winter's Night, Four Travelers And my top 5 disappointments 1: Death's Door 2: Adios 3: Ruined King 4: Mundaun 5: Happy Game
@@SullivanDoesGames It's mostly based on issues i have about the production which ruined my immersion. There was a certain uncanny quality to the pretty stellar voice acting, clashing with the lacking visuals and fidelity of the character models, in which voices get spewed out of. Also ran into 2 game breaking bugs. One of them required a full restart of the game. But it has a heart and fresh ideas i fully respect. That scene on the phone was especially heart wrenching.
I love how Critical Nobody clearly watches other creators- not just clear from this video; I see his comments pop up on lots of the things I watch. Happy to say I know most of the other folk he promotes here. I would say that while ProbablyJacob's SH4 video is evidence of his quality, most of his other stuff is nowhere near as negative and scathing, so bear that in mind!
I'm not even a Steam fanboy, but it was such a slap in the face. The previous two are on steam, you could get the missions from the previous games in 3 if you owned them but noooo, epic just had to be a scumbag. So i'd have to buy the missions on epic as well if i wanted the whole experience. And most people like this video encourage such behavior, great...
Ngl was very surprised to see re8 on your disappointing list but hey respect man. Love your videos and how you’re not scared to get your opinions out:D
Halo Infinite was definitely bogged down by it's shitty monetization. But truthfully it's gameplay was solid enough to rank up with my favorites of the year
Game is dying and it has almost nothing to do with the game pass. Halo has reached its lifespan, there's nothing original or worthwhile there specially in multilayer. I can launch CE and have as much fun there than in infinite.
I can't wait for 2022's releases. It always seems that the even numbered years have better releases. Spider-Man in 2018, Animal Crossing in 2020, and soon, in 2022, Breath of the Wild 2 and Splatoon 3
It's been a wack year for games. Tales of Arise definitely stuck out for me as a highlight for the year in my case, extremely enjoyable despite some of its flaws. Most of the year I've spent either replaying older games for the billionth time or sticking to throwing cash at arknights or destiny 2. I've bought only a handful of games this year, yet I've spent more money on games than before. If you count in merch and such that is. As for other games that I would obviously enjoy, I'm in the "I'll wait for it to get out of post release unofficial beta phase" group. Halo looks dang fun, but it seems to have some really frustrating things to it due to rushed release. Also I just randomly realized that I played a bunch of ubisoft games this year actually, but I can't remember really anything about them. Either I have dementia setting in or their games are just so average and samey that you forget about them. I mainly remember their weird premium shops which feel very f2p despite the games going for a full price. When the only thing I vividly remember about a game is the microtransactions store, its probably not a good thing.
@iluvOP Same here and that’s why I have been playing the Whitcher3 & Days Gone! And I could not agree more about Ubisoft games- I have like 15 assessing creed games on my Xbox one alone and I’ve never beat one of them/ Same goes for far cry as far as I have far cry3, blood dragon, FC4 & FC5 and the only one I’ve ever beat is blood dragon
Ratchet and Clank serie will forever be my favorite childhood game serie. Is one of the first games that I have ever played before and I love it. A fun fact too I was born at the same year when Ratchet and Clank was created. So yeah I am just following the serie with my age and life lol. Ratchet and Clank will forever be my favorite through the years and I love Ratchet and Clank’s relationship to each other. For me this is a great way to show how a true friendship looks like. I also see them as brothers lol. But yeah, I don’t like the 2016 remake that much since their relationship doesn’t feel real to me. So I never played it, it looks nice I can say that. But that is all I can say though. The timeline to the serie has also been change too. Since in the original game Ratchet didn’t want to join the galactic rangers since he saw them as not real heroes and just a joke to the Galaxy. (In which I agree on) but in this timeline he does, and joined them earlier than he did in the original timeline. The only thing that I can come up with to how this timeline was ever even created in the first place. Is if Alister Azimuth (a character from the crack in time game) plan actually work with him changing the timeline. Or if Ratchet and Clank decided to do it themself. Hmm maybe that is why their relationship feels so fake from the cutscenes because they can remember each other from the old timeline? Anyway, I’m going off topic now. Rift apart is a great game to me too and I would love to play it myself when I get the chance to. Anyway besides of all that. I don’t think I have more to add on now other than that. It would be cool if you wanna try out the rest of the serie too? Since that crack in time is my favorite game from the serie and I hope that everyone will have a great day. ^^
Most of 2021 I spent catching up with my considerable backlog of Xbox one games. One thing I did play from last year though was Death’s Door which is a superb game and I can’t recommend it enough.
Hitman 3 was on track to be the best in the series for me. Then the train level happened. I understand it’s place in terms of story but my god it felt like a slap in the face after playing all of those intricately detailed and immersive levels that came prior
i agree, i felt like i was missing out on a whole new level. instead i was given a linear train level that was just meh. i guess killing the constant is satisfying though.
Cool list. I've been wanting to play A Way Out since it came out in March 2018 and recently one of my best friends bought it on sale :). We've planned on playing it for years and now we're finally doing it. Our first session was about 7 hours and we got close to the end of the game :D. We'll finish the game in our next sesh. So far it's very good! Very cinematic, movie-like experience. Co-Op is fun :). Even though I'm not usually the biggest co-op guy. It Takes Two has DEFINITELY piqued my interest... A LOT of positive coverage and it looks great! I will definitely buy it at some point and play it with this same friend of mine. Made by the very same devs (Hazelight Studios, Josef Fares).
My 5 best of 2021: 5: Hitman III 4: Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart 3: Resident Evil VIllage 2: Ghost Of Tsushima: Director’s Cut 1: Deathloop My 5 Worst of 2021: 5: Far Cry 6: Vaas Insanity 4: Grand Theft Auto Definitive Trilogy 3: Call Of Dity Vanguard 2: The Returnal 1: Hot Wheels: Unleashed
The only thing I don't like about the newer hitman games is that they made shooting useless. Hitman used to be a very good shooter game one of the best ever but they made the shooting feel weak and useless, took out all the best guns.
The problem with Infinite is the double-edged sword of the Battle Pass. They needed to make progression take a while so it lasted the whole season but fans didn't like that, so they sped it up, now fans are complaining there's nothing to play for because they've completed the Pass. There's no way of either side winning with it. As you like to say; "You can't have your cake and eat it too".
I’m so glad to find someone else who feels the same way about RE Village. It’s an ok action game and it’s a horrible RE game imo. So much forward progress made with RE7 and now we take so many steps backwards.
I see a good potential in you and the channel. You have a strictly determined niche (at least what I've seen until now which actually is around 5 videos for around day and something - which I think directly makes you interesting, just think how often you and usually people watch the same person for the same topics videos longer than 40 minutes in the gap of less than two days). Anyway, I think you're doing a very good job, I explained a big part of why after I watched the Hitman video so without making me talking a lot here now if you're interested you can check it there. I have my potential to speak a lot in my comments which automatically makes people to don't want to read them. Wish you the best! I wish you to have gain. get and reach everything you need, no matter how do you see it - because this is what actually makes us who we have to be by nature, if we take the challenge of course and you seem like a person who does and you're a thinking man as well. Be wise, be good, build confidence but stay away from your Ego as much as possible! (The last one is the hardest for the people, some don't have so much trouble with that but don't forget that Ego means one thing and it can be found and seen by variety of ways so don't let yourself to get fooled that you did that job). I don't want to sound like I'm just coming back from church :D I'm just philosophical. I just wrote a novel again, thanks for the attention :)
Awesome list! My favourite game of 2021 is The Forgotten City, an experience I'm still thinking about 6 months after playing it, wholeheartedly recommend if you can spare 6 or so hours and enjoy murder mystery type games (it's on gamepass now aswell).Psychonauts 2 is a worthy runnerup. Most disappointing from 2021, hmmm. Probably Cuccchi (not even worth looking up) but Deliver us the moon was the worst from 2020 in played in 21. As for best DLC/expansion: it's between streets of rage 4: Mr. X nightmare or Watch Dogs Legion: Bloodlines, the former reinvigorated the genre and the latter was a pleasant not to end on.
Absolutely relieved to see someone share my opinion on Village. The entire thing seemed like a desperate attempt to be the exact opposite of RE7, which I love, and a pitiful attempt to be RE4: 2, oddly enough. A buddy of mine has basically dissected how shit the Mercenaries mode is, so I was a bit surprised to see a lack of that discussion in the video. All in all, though, I understand not wanting to give it that much of your time
GTA Trilogy: The Definitive Edition was the “worst game” and most controversial release of 2021 as Cyberpunk 2077 was the worst and most controversial of 2020 and WWE 2K20 was for 2019.
My issue with halo infinite can be summed up with the first title card you get after you beat the game. It feels like they're trying so hard to let people know this is 343's halo rather than just making a halo game. And I think they've had this attitude for the majority of their time on the series.
Yeah, they got comfortable with the formula and there is little other daring companies and games that are daring to do the heavy work of improving the media
Im going to dislike it because halo was on the bad side of this video. Like come on you got to separate the game you bought and the game that’s free. To me the game campaign was not worth the price tag. The story was mediocre at best and the environment gets real old the longer you play it. I bought the game for the story and I was let down. Too shorten this comment, I feel like your reason was a good reason to put halo on the bad side of this video. Even though I will respect your opinion on the matter since we both had different experience with the game.
I actually enjoyed deathloop a lot. I know some of the criticism behind it but damn was it fun. Guardians of the galaxy was phenomenal. Easily beat that game in less than a week because i loved it and the writing so much. You could see the love that went into it and the music. Cant think of much games that came out specially this year that was good but lots of games from previous years to finally catch up on.
Dude, personally, I wish you were making more videos. I know, it’s not that easy and takes a lot of effort to make them, but maybe this year will have give reasons to make a couple more. Thanks for the list and shoutouts to other content makers.
Doom Eternal and people who claim 2016 is better (which I still love btw) can't come up with a reason why it's better except for how they like the darker tone even though there's more comedic moments in 2016 than Eternal.
@@cookieface80 that was only because they also crippled the parkour. If they just had unity's parkour, but you can also swing now, it would've been sick. That was just a very bad grapple implementation but be real, imagine playing syndicate without it. It would be a pain.
When you consider where we are in the console life cycle, it's not surprising that this year was kinda bland. The first year of any console usually has some sort of killer app or two, but then it takes a while for the whole industry to actually start making games entirely dedicated to the new generation. Seriously, go back and look at any console's library; I promise that the back half is much more dynamic than the front half. And given the multiplatform nature of gaming, this phenomenon cascades to PC as well. All of this is even before you factor in the pandemic. I'm fortunate enough to have a PS5, but the chip shortage and related supply chain issues still continue to make it hard to buy a new console. The industry is _well_ aware of this fact, which is making developers even more gun-shy about making the full jump to next-gen. Just look at how many PS5 and Series X games had ports for the respective previous console. And I imagine that many games' development cycles were disrupted by the human resource side of the pandemic (shifts to remote work, personal tragedies, etc.). Tl;dr: Gaming will probably be a lot more exciting from here on out, and it's only natural that this was an off year.
Honestly gaming is slowly stopping for me ... My high end PC is just being used for music at this point. I literally have zero hype for nothing but Horizon Zero Dawn and maybe Uncharted.
@@ouroldhouse3674 Nope, I am not the creative type, to be honest. I tried so hard to expand my creativity but I've come to a point where I won't advance more. Only thing I can be somewhat creative is music making.
My original review for GTA the trilogy the definitive edition went from five stars pre-Launch, to 1 Star post-Launch… I would have given zero just because of how vastly different and shitty it is compared to playing the originals on PS2 or OG Xbox-
Modern day gaming in a nutshell: "I couldn't find 10 good games to talk about so, I found 5 that were okay and 5 to shit on" ^-^ Not judging here, I stopped playing years ago... Even the guys from Digital Foundry were like "this year, only 8 games because of... 'lack of time' " ahahaha Gaming is so underwhelming right now.
@@TheGamerTronShow I watched at least 9 "best games of 2021" videos these past 2 weeks, every single one of them said that they had struggled to find games to talk about. Returnal, Hitman3, it takes 2 and psychonauts 2 were ALL in EVERYONE's top... Then they all struggled to find 6 more... So weird to have to explain a decade old drought to people... Just look on your shelves dude... I bet you'd rather talk to me than replay any of them...
@@SLRModShop LMAO you're still projecting! Even worse you're doubling down and projecting onto me 🤣 A few videos on youtube do not dictate the feelings of the millions who play and buy games. There is no "drought" that needs explaining because it doesn't exist. Lastly I don't have shelves 😂 I buy my games digitally and I have literally hundreds of games I want to replay that have come out in the past 2-3 years.
@@SLRModShop I own Bloodborne. That’s infinitely better than anything we could talk about on this here platform. Unless we talked about Bloodborne, of course.
"if you're lucky enough to have a PS5" Or just play the PS2 games that were better anyway and had a shit load more personality. And you can emulate them on your PC for free. Or play A Crack In Time on your PS3. No experience with the series is right. Imagine how hard your mind would have been blown if you'd played the actual good games in this series when they came out. Gaming is on a downward spiral if that's your game of the year. A boring sequel that has nothing new about it other than the visuals and a second protagonist. Meanwhile, actual fans of the series were mildly disappointed.
My game of the year was Deathloop, with Hitman 3 very, very close behind. My most disappointing was Ratchet & Clank. Just didn’t think it was as groundbreaking or as clever as it liked to think it was. All the portal stuff didn’t really add anything to the game, and I thought it was an admittedly really nice looking mediocre kids game with writing that was average at best. But hey, I also put another 30 hours into Cyberpunk over Christmas, so I guess I’m willing to give leeway to a game that’s broken but has potential over a complete package that’s as dull as dish water.
@@TheWolfs9892 I’ve heard so many people give Ratchet and Clank a lot of praise, and I just don’t get it. To me it’s a 6/10 at best. It looks and runs great, but I think all the portal stuff is a cheap gimmick and isn’t as clever as it thinks it is. When I saw the trailer for it, it looked like all that portal stuff would have been a system seller, but it felt like wasted potential.
BS Infinite is the most broken unbalanced crap I've ever played. This plays nothing like halo. The melee damage is completely inconsistent. The aiming is terrible and I'm not gonna take adjust sensitivity as an answer at its core it's bad. No damn enemy footsteps leading to the most back killingest gameplay I've ever experienced, the movement is a damn joke it turns Halo from an arena to a twitch shooter. The hit registration is a damn joke, no player collision, the damage scaling is uneven and random less weapons any halo has ever had... I could go on. Idk what Halo you played but it couldn't have been this one
@@johnbishop2536 I'm nearing 40 and have been gaming since 88 and know quite a bit about gaming and been playing halo since the original PC game... For you to reduce legit actual issues to "you're just bad at the game" shows you have not been playing this game as long as me and you definitely are a casual and actually can't point out technical flaws in a game when they're there maybe do some actual research
Cyberpunk was not just dissapointing for me but the worst game iv experianced in my life. and ik people are gonna argue "oh its not that bad theres this game on the nes thats worse" but no the thing is the worst part of that game wasnt that it was buggy or that it was dissapointing or that the story is dull or the world feels empty or the combat is trash. no the main issue is the fanboys that overhyped it and still to this day deffend it from any negativity. it honeslty demostraits everything wrong with the games industry right now people overhypeing and deffending shady practices and thinking its toxic to not enjoy something. i mean put it this way did anyone deffend et back when that came out? like did anyone attack anyone back then for saying they hated et or made out it was wrong for them to not be hyped for it. being a bad game is one thing but a toxic community can do more dammage to a game than anything the creators of it could ever have done
@@GreatBeardofWisdom same for music - the deeper and deeper the world slides into the dirt, the better the OST gets. Somebody gave that Monkey's paw a real good workout eh.
