Hello Mecha i dont know if you built an hg acguy sometime but its a really good kit even though its old (give us thunderbolt version bandai) it was my first gunpla back in the days and its what got me into the hobby, Otherwise the old 1/144 and 1/100 kits from the 80ths are supergreat models to make custom out of. Some of them looks different from the new ones but thats what makes them so great, so you should do one of those sometime and put your magic to it. I highly recommend the old juagg as a base ^^ i used parts from the hi mock and acguy parts to make mine and i think thats my favorite gunpla i built so far
Y'know, the Core Gundam could make one hell of an MGEX. The EX aspect could be that the kit includes ALL of the armours for it, and the appropriate engineering to make them work.
HG is really nice nowadays, I used to only buy hg too cause its all i can afford, but now, that i can afford MGs, I still return to HG cause how simplistic and easy to mod they are. Well, some MG(albeit old ones) are kind of affordable, some even cheaper than HG moon gundam in my country. But be very aware that they are old, they might not be very articulated, but they are nice and detailed, such as MG dom, MG gp01s....well its still 2-3x the price of your typical economic hg(e.g hg revive rx, leos, fine build systems hgs)but I think they are nice for the price. But yeah, if most of your collections are in 1/144 scale, might as well migrate to RGs when you can afford it just to keep it uniform in scale. But personally, HG is still my favourite line due to how complete the line is. Lesser known ms such as geminass, plutone, and msv machines which are kind of hard to get MG, all got nice HGs. Forgot to add that some HGs are leaps and bounds better than the MG counterpart, such as ground gundam, gundam unit 4&5, gouf custom, etc.
I love HG kits. Especially the more recent ones. They're easy to build and sooooo customizable. I have so many kitbash ideas and so little time to flesh them all out. Customizing gunpla is so much fun.
God, I want a master grade Core Gundam so bad too. But it's gonna be suffering even if it ever happens because all the armors (and probably Core Gundam 2) would be P-Bandai. I'd at least like a Nepteight the most cause that thing makes me feel feelings and the HG doesn't do it justice.
every time I think about MG Core Gundam, I just assume that if it were to ever exist it would (unfortunately) regular release as earthree, then the rest of the planet armors would be P-Bandai
@@lucasrios2089 Yeah that was what I was thinking too, I was pretty misleading in hindsight cause I just assumed it was a given Core Gundam would come with Earthree armor. At most I can see a Core Gundam 2 with Uraven armor as another release (though probably unlikely since they don't seem to have put out a lot of MG Build kits ever since the original Build Fighters), the rest would just be P-Bandai. Can't deny I still want it though cause I really love the whole concept behind the Core Gundam.
@@youmgsandwiche I agree on all fronts, and although I wouldn’t want them to reduce their focus on Seed and OO, if it were for any series, I’d want it to be Build, there are still so many kits begging for MGs and even RGs or kits at all
@@lucasrios2089 I really want an MG 00 Sky Moebius too. That new color scheme really turned me around on the design, apart from that I guess the only other Build design I really want badly as an MG is X Maoh, if only because of how frustrating it is that Mao is one of the more important characters in OG Build Fighters but he never got an MG (also I'm really biased towards X because it's my favorite gundam design lol)
7:31 This is the problem. You've never built any of the old mono-eye kits. the oldest HG mono-eye you've built is the Kshatriya. they're better than you think Dom Dom Tropen Sand Brown Kampfer Hy gogg Zock Z'gok Acguy Zeong gelgoog Doven Wolf Asshimar Gabthley They are all good kits, but they wouldn't sit well with your tiering system because they don't have absolutely everything a modern Hg has.
I agree. I think a lot of the older HGs have merit. The HG Alex (look at Kakarots video) actually looks pretty great, the original mono eye gang were also great kits just without modern frills. I don’t like how mecha just assume poly caps = bad when that isn’t necessarily 100% true.
I agree. But I think his point still stands, none of those kits would make into the list since he puts in Messer (except for the Doven Wolf probably. Man, that thing is sexy). The thing is, Bandai didn't pay much attention to the mono-eyes, especially in terms of articulation. At least not until the Origin line. Mono-eyes need more love, Bandai.
@@fayu_daniel Well, most of the mono-eyes were chunky bois at the time, so articulation wasn't the primary draw. Their epic designs and superiority over those puny GMS and Guncannons was definitely one of their primary selling points tho.
I definitely feel like the new-ish Gouf Custom HG is a phenomenal kit. It's sturdy, articulate, and the wire it comes with as the grapple hook holds up so well. It can hold all of its weapons beautifully, and even it's shield with the full Gatlin gun on it. It is probably my favorite HG kit so far
Avoid the HG Lupus Rex as your first, noodle legs to the max. I got it as my first Gunpla and it became dissapointing the more gunpla I built. stiffening the legs up and getting a stand for it tho, it actually looks really nice on the shelf. I just wouldn't pose it too much anymore
For me the best high grade has to be the Destiny "revive" and I have a few reasons why it is. Amazing build, a lot of content, great build and almost near perfect color separation. Let's also not forget that it have effect parts which could have been a p-bandai set but they aren't.
Considering there are about only 11 or so units so far (alto, portanova, A-Flight type, A-Ground type, P-Space Type, P-Marine type, Rabiot, Cielnova, Spinatio Sengoku, Spinatio Ninja, Spinatia Fencer - did I miss any?) based on 6 or so base variations , that's a pretty small pool to choose from...
I’d say my favorite HGs are either the Try Burning or the Hyaku Shiki revive. Both are phenomenally solid with exactly the accessories you’d want and have amazing articulation. My least favorite by far is the Flag from 00. I love the design to death but the kit is far too spindly to hold its own weight. It constantly falls over, can barely hold its weapons, and the transformation barely works
Oh boy, another giveaway that when the date of announcing the winner comes on, there will be silence. I did not like how people were hyped up on a previous one and were just left like that. A person on twitter also mentioned that he ghosted his fans on Discord when it was time to announce yet another giveaways winners. I adore your reviews and you are a fun person to listen to, but I noticed some people are starting to get a bad idea of you. It would be wise to address this :/
@@lucasrios2089 Unfortunately no. It's quite a lot of scrolling down also. If you have Twitter or Discord, I could send you links since I still have them
My favorite HG is definitely the HG 00 sky moebius, that thing has a whole bunch of different accessories and weapon combinations as well as pretty awesome articulation that just makes me not wanna stop posing it.
I haven’t built the hg Phenex, but I have built the banshee, and it honestly isn’t that bad, good even. It looks cool especially that orangey gloss psycho frame, and it had a very unique build process. The only problem I have with the kit is the slightly below average articulation and lack of accessories.
The GM GM was a honest shock to me, but it makes alot of sense. One of my personal favorites is the Gundam Kimaris Trooper, I love the idea of a gundam with a ground-mobility transformation, like the complete opposite of the Zeta design philosophy. Its fun and I love it. I did replace the head of mine with the R-Gyagya's head, and ive been meaning to get some nice paint to redo the thing in more nobel colors
It’s a good hg, but the beyond global beats it for simultaneously having good articulation (not better than g40), being sturdy, and the general aesthetics
@@smokemidigofoolish5797 The Origin kit is probably the best of the HG grandpa's, almost looks like an RG with a little work. G40 is my least favorite of the three new ones but it's a super unique build with amazing articulation and it looks awesome with the right paint job.
@@GotNextVideo origin is probably my second favorite, but subjectively the best it does everything right and has the most accessories of all the hg granddaddies
Damn should have bought that moon gundam when I had the chance. There’s been one sitting in my local hobby lobby for the longest time and with 40% off 🤦man I rly missed out.
To me is kinda funny that a grandaddy is the worst one and a GM the best one haha. My favorite hg out of my limited collection is the MKII AEUG Revive. Looks objectively better than in the anime, has a amazing color palette, nice accesories, varely any sticker, oh, and it's mostly undergated.
My favorite HG kits RX-78 Origin version Zaku I & II Origin Version RX-79 Gundam Ground Type (and Ez-8 too) RX-79 BD (any of the three units) Guntank and Guncannon Origin version My least favorite HG kits Every dumb super robot Gundams from ugly stuff like Gundam Wing, Gundam Seed, and so on But above all everything from those dumb series where kids fight battles with gunpla models... Those series are ugly and the mechas in those series are bad designs... I am not able to separate the model from the anime/manga/videogame whetre it comes from cause i build models only of animes/mangas i loved so even if there is a very good model with amazing design by bandai but it's from a series that doesnt respect the Gundam Universe philosophy for me it's a kit i will never buy IMHO mechas from the Gundam universe should be real robots with designs that are like tanks with two legs in a realistic gritty story of war with real human beings and not Grendizer wannabe with the head of a Gundam or a Zaku in a childish story with 10 years old pilots that play war like it was cool This is why i build only the ones from UC timeline and above all the ones from OYW (i have more than 20 built gunplas and only three are not from OYW)
I think the TR-6 line are my favorite HG's. Anything that has the Woundwort Gundam or using it as a core. My least favorite is just about anything Build.
I wanna get the G40 and take certain aspects to graft onto the beyond global. Weapons, head, feet and backpack are cool on the G40, it's just the rest of it thats iffy at best.
Sorry I’m gonna be an arse and do a top ten favorite instead of top 5 of favorite and least favorite. Top ten favorite HGs that I’ve built atm. 10: marsfour 9: helmwige reincar 8: bugu ramba ral 7: destiny gundam 6: efreet shneid (would be the efreet nacht but I can’t afford one lol) 5: geara doga 4: Barbatos lupus 3: moon gundam 2: graze commander type 1: sinanju Stein narr My list is always changing and most are interchangeable on the list. Some runner ups: origin rx-78-2, origin zaku II char or gun cannon, ibo frame shiden, try burning Gundam, jesta, kampfer, age 1 Titus, geara zulu, windham, Uranus. What your top ten?
In no order because my list tends to change too constantly 1) moon Gundam 2) destiny revive Gundam 3) nt Gundam 4) xi Gundam 5) Char zaku 2 origin 5) dom test type 6) age 1 7) origin rx78-2 8) hi nu vrabe 9) crossbone X1 10) nu Gundam
Why is the Hg Tristan gundam not making an appear on this list? I mean he did talk shit about that crappy Hg Tristan, but still how can he not include it in the list???? ¿¿¿¿.
listening to this guy talk about how we don't have enough Zeon HGs when we haven't had a shuffle alliance kit since the ones from 94 kinda pisses me off, ngl
11:00 "Or if you're very very desperate [...] you could get the robot damashii" Hey as a Damashii/MB collector I resent that lol. Aside from the higher price (typically) the only thing you're really missing is the build experience. But that build is really fun so I do find myself tempted occasionally to build kits again.
After seeing the Messer in action in the Hathaway movie I knew I had to have one, so after watching your review of it, I bought the kit. The HG Messer was only my second ever gunpla and it was such an enjoyable build that I think it solidified my desire to build more kits.
In my collection. My 5 favorites are (in no order) HG GP02 HG Xi gundam HG Gundam marine type HG sinanju HG Gundam unit 4 My least favorite are HG gundam unicorn (destroy mode) HG Gundam Alex HG Hambrami HG Gundam local type HG Gundam love Phantom
I cheered for number 3. The kit that made me fall in love with gunpla. Edit: For recommendations of kits you've never built, the annoyingly hard to find Age Grunt suits are (save the genoace) fantastic. The G-Exes is the coolest not-a-gundam gundam design and the Adele might be my favorite HG grunt. It's posable, solid as a brick, and has nice, clean lines.
Speaking of 'army builder' my favourite high grade kit is similar to yours, it's the HG AGE Shaldoll Rogue, something about this kit is just so perfect and like yourself, I'm surprised I haven't grabbed another (although the real reason is probably coz I have no space)
I thought this is awesome! Some of your reviews have helped me choose my non-existent backlog/wishlist. This is just a slim hope but here's to hoping something good.
In Gundam build series line, only few catch my eyes. 1. Core Gundam 2. 00 diver ace 3. Gm gm 4. Age 2 magnum SV 5. Wing Fenice R 6. Strike galaxy cosmos(without it's crap backpack galaxy booster) 7. Mobile doll May Only that, who caught my eyes attention right now. 🤔
I can see why you only want the Build Galaxy Cosmos's Gundam without the backpack like really it doesn't look as majestic as it supposed to be. Like the design kinda reminds me of Aquarius Gundam, but that's about it and those pointy wings never felt right for me.... A shame because the Build Gundam itself is so good looking
@@ernestorio3550 Yeah I know. In my eyes I'm fully agree with Mechagaikotsu in this that rather than a wing it more like some helicopters attach on Build strike. 😒 And doesn't look cool at all.... 🤦♂️ Hell, original backpack or lightning backpack do more better job than that, I swear 😣
HG Varguil is the best for me. that thing is perfect out of box build. the color etc. to go beyond is just make more scribble to panel line to look like its art at 16:00. it's design is literally perfect. even better then Sazabi
Fist _ you dont like G40? Man... I love and mine are so robust. My Top 5 HG ever is: Moon Gundam Core Gundam 1. Zaku 2 Origin NZ666 Kashatrya Light Black Warrior, I love him so much I buy 2 to build a double long cannon. My Worsts Fenice, yeah broken allaws. I love the anime version, but the kit... Gundam Ground Type, i dont like the ball joint in the legs and chest. Hi- Zack Astray Arms ( the pink one) Gundam Gusion Rabake Full City, when 2 months pass, he cant hold himself becouse the Back pack and shield.
I heavily disagree with your placement of the G40, especially given your reasons for placing it so low. First off, the kit is meant to be a unique demonstration of how far Bandai has come with their gundam model tech. It's not meant to be a representation of an alternate universe RX-78, but more like a fun robot model kit that pays homage to the one that started it all for Bandai. Similar to how car manufacturers "remake" an older car in a newer design. The model is also meant not to be a scaled down representation of what a "walking war machine" would be, but more of an action figure that loosely resembles a Gundam. Judging a kit based on how loose their joints become over time is one thing, but judging a kit because it conform to your standard view of a Gundam model (because it's not meant to be an accurate Gundam model) is a completely different thing. Now I know this is your opinion and everyone has their own, I just wanted to add something in here that might alter your perspective a little. Love your videos, I appreciate all the insider tips and advice you give when reviewing kits; it's helped me alter my decision on whether or not to get a kit more than once. Keep it up, as always, looking forward to your next videos.
1. HG G-Bouncer. Standard, does the basic stuff while sticking together well and looking good. 2. Load Astray. But without the transformation gimmick. The underlying suit is AMAZING. All those layers. 3. GN Archer. The elbow joint is a disappointment, but the suit is great. I have it posed next to G-Bouncer as a team. They look good together. 4. Core gundam and it's counterpart. And I disagree, CG1 looks better. The simplicity is ideal for its size. Now, could they please make TV SERIES HG Shenlong and Altron. The triple jointed arms made the suit. These new interpretations of the arm gimmick are disappointing.
"The first time I got into gunpla, I got the master grade Wing Zero Custom, like most people." Me, with 7 days of gunpla building experience and my MG Wing Zero Custom on my desk: wha
Okay, my guess for best.. Moon Gundam. People rave about that one. Edit: Number 2.. close! The best HGs I've built are probably the F2 Zaku, Jesta Cannon, and Geara Zulu (but I'm biased, because that's my favourite MS). I also love the Momokapool, my first HG. The little guy inside is so fun.
Kit bash question for anyone who can answer! Looking to do a HG kit bash between Barbatos Lupus Rex and Freedom Gundam (non-strike). From videos I've found I think the Freedom wings will fit into the sides of the Rex's backpack (please confirm/deny if you know). I really want to know if the side skirt railguns on the Freedom attach with a similar/same mechanism as the Rex's side skirts. This will be a quick and dirty kit bash with quick paint. I own the Rex, so yes I know it is a finicky kit that needs A LOT of love to work. Opinions, questions please...
I'm kinda surprised that the AGE-2 Magnum/Magnum SV, 00 Sky variants, Build Strike variants, A-Z Gundam isn't on the list since the kits that they were based on is surprisingly good (except the Build Strike being released first before the Aile Strike lol) do something like this again but it's RG, MG, and PG lol
I feel like the HGUC Unicorn gets more hate than it deserves. It's not a great kit per se, but when it was released, it had better proportions and (obviously) a more solid build than the MG Ver. Ka, not to mention a pretty impressive level of color/parts separation. You could also have both the Unicorn and Destroy mode on display at the same time for about half the price of the Ver Ka. This was kind of a big deal; the HGUC Unicorn was arguably the best model kit rendition of the Unicorn available for years, until the RG/PG came out. That was what, about 6 or 7 years? ...which admittedly says more about how Bandai struggled to translate the Unicorn design to kit form than the quality of the HGUC, but still.
Me : looks at my SD Petit haropla hg mg rg pg re 100 collection 😒 nope OK I've more hg but that's because there are more of them out there ( well outside Japan that is )
