Great pic of fishing lures for stream fishing. I use them all the time and some lake applications. All of them well known trout lures. But bass in some cases.
I flatten the barbs on all of spinning lure treble hooks, since it aides in returning trout more gently and safely to the water. Similarly, I de-barb the trebles on crank baits and spoon for trout fishing. I am converting many of my spinning lures to single de-barbed hooks for better catch-and-release. With a Solvkroken folding, telescoping net and quick release tool, I need not remove the trout from the water. Releases are far easier and quicker with single barbless hooks. I also find no apparent disadvantage to using single hooks for stream trout fishing so long as appropriate size hooks are used. I am pleased to learn that Mepps and Rooster Tail has single hook spinners available. Are other manufacturers doing this as well? I have so many older treble lures and find it to be quite a chore to convert to single hooks using split rings. I am thinking that it might be just as well to re-build most of the spinners, since they have excellent condition components. Thank you for sharing!
Yeah I totally understand that I have been working on a lure for trout fishing that using barbless single hooks as well as fly patterns with a single barbless hook
@@OregonFishingAdventures The problem is that there is an apparent lack of smaller size Siwash hooks. We obviously need a larger hook eye but a range of smaller hooks to be used for inline spinners. I do not like having the use split rings, but rather connect the hooks directly to the wire loop.
Thanks man I really appreciate the support and feedback! The joes flies are definitely worth it! 4 out of the 5 fish I caught in my most recent video were on joes flys they are very effective and those mepps spin flys are killer to they also get snagged less
@@OregonFishingAdventures I haven't heard of those Joe's Flies. I'll have to check them out as well. I totally agree with the Panther Martins. I've coined them as "trout killers". Seem to work the best where I live in Wisconsin.
LOVED!! this vid. Been fishing the Sierras (also the Deschutes) for decades and over the years have settled into the PM with an occasional Kastmaster or Z-Ray for bigger water or lakes. I use the PM in #2 & #4 & rarely #6 with gold, silver and black blades/bodies. However, you are teaching an old dog some new tricks. First, I haven't really paid much attention to the 'dressed' lure. Second, I have only just begun to hear about the Joe's. This is really interesting to me. I'm approaching retirement so I'll have the opportunity to try some new things. Thanks a TON!!! for some simple inspiration which will get used during my summers off.
Hey man thanks for watching fishing has been rough the last couple months so havent got any videos out but I definitely plan to do more videos like this for the channel appreciate the support
Love me some Panthers! Also a huge fan of the Blue Foxes. Spoons are a go-to for me in moving water. Lil Cleo ftw! I also like to cut the trebble hook off and put a comparable size siwash on. I find it helps with catching the corner of the mouth and allows for easier CnR with less trauma to the fish. I also find the single hook snags less in thinner water. Check out First Strike lures out of West Linn. He's a good dude and is prompt with service and supports a local business with an awesome product.
Here in Ireland the Mepps Agila, Comet and Black fury are age old trout catchers. The Vibrax is a relative newcomer but available, whereas the Panther Martin, Rooster tails and Joe's are not sold mainstream.
One of My favorite spinners is a Blue Fox rainbow trout pattern with pink dressing. I caught two brown trout with it 19 ", and 23" catch and release to grease fishin.
I'm actually phasing out blue fox spinners due to there poor paint quality I feel like there paint used to hold up alot better but recently it's been just horrible
Best one out there isn't actually mentioned here. By far, the best lure I've ever used for trout is a yellow panther martin with red dots, a gold blade, and the feathered bottom
I started tossing mepps for bass & trout in the 70s. They are my go to followed closely by Panther Martin. I just restocked my freshwater spinners - all my favorites from childhood and then some. Mepps has some pretty deadly lookin steelhead & salmon spinners I added. Panther Martins - Love em, so do the trout, period. used rooster tails a few times but never really took off for me but I got a variety based on recommendations, Blue fox - I went nuts on these I got quite a few classic patterns & some really bright blades in 5 for chinook 4s & 3s for steelhead & even some 1s & 0s for trout. Got a few 5k & 7k Kwikfish in brown, rainbow, silver, blue/silver & fluoro red, couldnt find a pearl finish anywhere. even got a few jointed & 2" rapalas but I must learn how to make those wk for me - maybe I fish them wrong. Just finished a big job & takin a breather so I decided to spoil myself. setting up for steelhead & freshwater chinook after a few yrs of only saltwater. Pacific Northwest (PNW) makes some very nice spinners worth taking a close look at for those interested in Kings & Steelhead. Kid in a candy store (2nd childhood?/midlife crisis? who cares Im SET!)
If you like the blue fox lures I'd highly recommend getting your bell body lures from R&B lure co in Oregon there paint quality is leaps and bounds above the paint blue fox is producing now day as well as much better quality hooks
Joe’s Flies are the best I’ve used. Extremely popular in West Virginia. The reason why you have a hard time finding them is because joes is a small company in central WV. West Coast is hard to get them.
Never had luck with the helps. Love the panther Martin's and Joe's flies. Also there's a company called Jerry's flies very similar to Joe's flies but not as popular that I like.
The mepps have been one of my go to lures since I was a kid and have caught me many fish along with panther Martin's Joe's flies are a bit newer to me but already proving there worth
There all great lures I slay trout and bass on the bumble bee rooster tail in 1/6 oz I’ve caught my largest trout on spinners with a no2 blue fox sliver with pink a couple over 20 inches but one lure that’s hard to beat is a kast master ik it’s not a spinner but a great lure
Nice appreciate your feedback those bumble bee rooster tails are a nice colorway and it's always great landing one of those 20+ inch trout! They sure are a blast!
I'm gonna remake this video because I no longer use blue foxes there paint quality has diminished over the years and so I have replaced them with lures from R&B lure co here in Oregon
Thanks for the info! 2 Questions: 1. What kind of scent are you putting on your spinners? 2. If you had to choose 1 spinner that is versatile enough to catch multiple species - what are you taking? Thanks!
If I had to choose one spinner it would without a doubt be the Joe's flies they are good in almost all conditions except fast currents which is usually where rooster tails really shine cuz they can hold in that fast water much better
As far as scent I use the pro cure rooster tail scents that are hackle safe and I use a variety of scents trophy trout, night crawler and garlic would be two good ones
I like your detailed list. I use a lot of Meps and Panther Martins. Never heard of the blue fox vibrum lure but want one now. Btw the panther Martin blades are literally called inline spinner blades which is kinda confusing bc the lures themselves are called inline spinners lol
Thanks man I actually am not using blue fox as much anymore there quality control on there paint has gone way down hill and paint doesn't last on the newer ones so I'm kinda phasing them out
I was throwing one of those just the other day when I got a few hours to go out I'm hopefully gonna get some time to film a new video soon for the channel
I honestly don't use blue fox that much there paint quality is pretty trash in the long term I was thinking about making a updated video of this it's mostly the same but the blue fox will not be in it anymore
what weight rod do you throw these spinners with? light or ultralight? I got myself a 5'6" light weight rod rated for 1/16 to 3/8 oz lures, wondering if I would have trouble casting 1/8 oz spinners a reasonable distance
Idk the actual sizing of the hook to be honest I'm sure I could figure it out there just the stock hooks that come with the lures but if your trying to build your own lures I'd highly recommend just using single hooks
I only use mepps black fury if i hit it with spinners. Yellow dotted one have not been so good as the one with odange dots. Been using them for 20 years or so. Nr0-2 i use fpr trout. 3-4 brings a lot of pike.
Yeah I like the black fury alot I've used it for a long time and I usually do have multiple blade options for the black fury recently I've been using the yellow dotted one seems to work well for me in my area I appreciate your feedback thanks for checking out the channel! :)
@@OregonFishingAdventures subscribed as well. It is cool to see how the same type of fish acts in different areas and continents. Here in Europe is totally different than in NZ or South Africa fpr example. But hey, it is what makes fishing so interesting right....😀
Generally gold is recommended for sunny days and silver for cloudy, the more clear the water the more natural the color you go with, the dirtier the water the more contrast you want.
Really depends one the water your fishing and the weather on the day but I like to always have a white, pink, green, chartreuse, fire tiger and black usually I'll also have some bumblebee yellow ones and craw fish orange
So as I mentioned at the beginning it was more of a top 5 favorite brand of lures then just my individual ones, these are the particular brands I use and trust!
I also tried to explain the differences between the different lures as well because they all are different and have there own uses! I appreciate your feedback and thanks for subscribing :)
@@OregonFishingAdventures hey thanks for the reply, it's got to be crazy early for you. Watching your other vids now. Came here from fish hawk comment you left.
@@thepoliticalfisherman5941 yeah I'm actually having a rough night getting sleep so usually I would be sleeping right now. I always try to respond to comments as soon as I can! Glad to have you here!
Those aren't Colorado blades their Indiana blades their not round completely it's in between the wilo and Colorado to make Indiana. Is my favorite for trout fishing 😋
