Iam a Filipino - USC. i was born and educated in the Phil. Iloilo is highly urban city. The city is more dense compared to Bacolod city which is more spread out. Out of 5 Gio mentioned, Iloilo would be more in the up scale than the rest of the four. I have not been to Bayawan and Valencia but I know what these places look like and live there. They are just typical quite town and cities of Negros island.

Personally, I wouldn't be in Valencia or Dumagette, too many foreigners. I've been around them all my life and want to get away from their egos, arrogance, constant complaining, belligerent drunkenness, etc. I want relaxation, happiness, and peace in life. Why go to another country just to be around the same type people doing the same things you did in your own country. I want to immerse myself and learn about THEIR culture.

Right. Iloilo City is a first class highly urbanized city, independent of its namesake province, while the other four are component cities and are still under their respective provinces.

Suggest you consider adding Legazpi City or close by, in Albay to your list. Pop 220,000, picturesque, on the coast, education centre, hospitals, airport with flights to Manila and Cebu, on Luzon so driveable to Manila if you must, supportive expat group...

Doing a SRRV visa currently. US militery retired. Must be 50 yrs of age, must have apostiled DD214, Verification letter for pension at least $1,000, a current statement showing proof of pension, police report from home of record, Mine was from Guam, medical current record, this must be done before coming to the Philippines. And now i have an appointment with NBI clearance, Fees with JRC consultancy P 28,000 at $500. Then you must have the Fee to DFA $1,500 for the actual visa itself and at the end of your first year an annual fee of $20 is required.

A hidden gem is a town called Malaybalay Bukidnon. It's about one hour SE of Cagayan de Oro. It's a small big city, big enough to support a Gaisano, Jollibee, a Pen Shop, a hospital, a zoo/park and six hotels. It is at a higher elevation making for cooler evenings and early morns. What I don't like is it is lacking in housing---apartments, gated communities, etc.

My GF and I visited Cagayan de Oro in June. I loved the fact that 15 minutes on a motorbike and you can get up into the hills/mountains where it is cooler. Not a beach area though. My GF is from Cebu City so I am going to start out near Ayala Mall when I retire in October. Close to everything I need and only 15 minutes to get up into the mountains. Also the flights to explore the Philippines from Cebu are cheap.

I just spent a month in CDO in Oct/Nov and found it to be a great city to enjoy. Rented an apartment in the Centrio tower next to the Centrio mall and found it to be extremely convenient to be in the city center near the major malls. The trip included a side trip to Bohol (we took the ferry service rather than fly because the cost was so much less). I plan to go back to CDO in March/April for another month with side trips to Manila, Thailand and Camiguin Island. On my last trip I flew into Cebu rather than Manila when entering the country and will do the same on my next trip. Just far less stressful.

Mindanao is really low cost, not to mention fresher air. When I transferred here in Central Luzon, the municipality I live doesn't even have a mall, hospital or a bank, just small clinics and bazaars. I need to go to the nearest city to get things done. But the rental and food prices, are generally much more expensive. Sometimes double. Can't wait to go back to my hometown.

C.d.O. and Butuan city are very floodings vulnerable several months of years. Parts of townships/inner city of Davao City as well. That too causes isolation and unpractical, very unhealthy life conditions when being there on longterm stays. That too is sort of unsafe/unsecure. But as a whole, wider Davao city with it's areas of "probinciana townships feel" is considered to be safe and under proper authorities social control to safeguard, peace and law/order. They have lots of police auxiliary force members recruited there which are in active spreadout specific city police assisting service as well. The Duterte family dynasty mayorship has over the years been initiating great life quality improvement things over there. All members have (dad Rodrigo (previous president) , his father who was wider regional governor over Davao, Paolo, Inday Sarah (current vice president)and the Benjamin of them Basti, currently Davao city mayor), compliments on them all for that. Towards the wandering around semi armed anti national ph authorities fractions of all already known sorts, no one as a westerner foreigner or even national native Pinoys/Pinays can be considered to be safe anywhere else in the more inlandic probinciana mountainous areas of this very big island. For absolute peace and quiet control and applying reasonable structure of law and order it is just too wide and huge, with some areas being particularly extra non advisable to live in or non speedy explorative wander through. When the day comes the bad happenings can happen on each and everyone among Westerner foreigners out there. Keep such always in mind. Hi Gio. Have you seen now, in Western society, less and less men want to get married? Marriage rates are falling as men start waking up. Marriage only benefits women and lawyers. Why would you sign a contract that can destroy your life but simultaneously enrich the other person's life, especially if they cheat on you? Marriage is a gamble. Would you gamble your 401k on the flip of a coin, No you wouldn't, but thats what you do when you get married.
