One benefit of this year is going out less means less nice clothes required,not having to buy outfits for occasions. Just re wore an old dress for my birthday because it’s been so long since I last had a chance to wear a nice dress 👗

I’m completely the opposite with cash, I’m really aware of my bank balance electronically, so as soon as I take cash out I consider it money already spent, which seems to make me really frivolous with it. Where as electronically I’m always far more conscious of what I’m spending. Completely behind your other four though. xxx

That's so interesting, thanks for sharing your perspective!! When I have money in my purse I never want to spend it but with tapping my card it feels like it's not even a real transaction! Thank you for watching xx

Same, not using cash is my biggest money saver, if I spend cash I have no idea what I have brought but if it’s on card it’s so easy to track everything you have spent

MissLoveLinds.. I so agree.. With direct debit card you have every thing you bought in the account profile and can see exactly where the money goes.. With cash you can't... . Unless you want to waste time and energy, and increase work load and stress by writing everything down that you spend the cash on!

GREAT TIPS! i was surprised at was how much people spend on non essential stuff. i was helping friends in debt, set up a budget plan for a baby. they kept track of all their expenses for a month, it turns out they were over spending almost a $1000 dollars more then they make, $1500 dollars was on non essentials (clothes, entertainment, restaurants, hardware stores) it adds up and can financially ruin you. cutting your non essential spending to a strict cash budget will help you! cheers from canada!

I have always waited to buy and never impulse bought... The only exception is impulse buying stuff I need eg presents.. when I see something that I know eg my kids want, I buy it straight away because I hate shopping and the stress of it! And I definitely don't want to "go back" to buy it, and then, even worse, discovering its sold out, and then having to search or think up something else! I also don't buy online.. 99% of what I buy, I buy in shops.. And as I hate shopping.. I don't go.. Unless I have to! So shopping is minimal! I don't directly meal plan.. But I look at what I have and then buy stuff to add to make meals...that is normal "not backwards"... And I have 30 dinners we love and eat regularly... I have had a zero waste kitchen for over 5 yrs.. I always use debit card because then you can keep track of what you spend and where (cash you can't do that.. Unless you want to waste time writing it all down) ... But I have always hated shopping and spending so I never had a buying problem.. Always been minimalistic... My husband used to complain I never bought new clothes and a few times he would "take me shopping and force me to get some new clothes"... Hate it! I have always saved and not spent because I love travel.. And used to backpack all over the world, but then it was saving for a car ( to paid in cash), then to have kids, then to buy a house... A house is the only thing I have ever bought on credit.... Now I am saving for my divorce.. Saving is actually not that hard... If you stop buying "stuff" which is also bad for the environment! Spending money on experiences is much better! I never consider myself a minimalist, but always having been more minamalist with mindful living is the most positive way to live in all areas... It reduces mental stress, makes house management easy, cleaning easy.. Frees up time to do other more fun things.. ..and is especially financially rewarding !

Loved this Lara as it really refreshes MY WHY! I discovered you a year ago and embarked on a no buy year after seeing your video's. I have learnt that I was an impulse buyer and that I had way to many things, things that sat in cupboards with tags still on! I have streamlined my possessions and learnt to appreciate the value of what I have and in return I feel so much happier AND richer for it. xx

Hi! I’m new to your channel but loving ever video! I just realised that I don’t have a “WHY”! How sad is this?! I always get distracted with shopping and can’t ever save. No wonder... I need to set myself a goal. It seems so obvious but for so many years I just lived day to day with no true goal 😭

I just have to say in regards to the cash vs card I use my Credit card all the time now and then make a payment from my debit account. I usually leave about £200 for me to pay when I get my statement which means my credit improves x

I am terrible with money!! Hands up I'm guilty of always impulsive buying. I've only been trying to save for a few weeks and just cant manage it! I want to start my own business working from home, making craft gifts and things, but I always need something else to make the stuff that I never thought of before. I don't have any money to start with and spend money I dont actually have!Lara please help me I'm a shopaholic!! Lol xx

I used to wait 30 days (at you suggestion on a previous email) especially with amazon purchases. If it goes in the 'saved for later' it invariable isn't bought yet I can't resist the buy it now button. I'm going to put everything in saved then wait at least 24 hours, we generally don't need things urgently and whilst a month may work for most items sometimes even the next day the urge has gone to buy so I delete it!

Do you use a physical planner, budgeting book or spreadsheets to keep track of your spending & savings?
@lavayuki

I find it hard to use the 30 day rule of certain things that would just sell out, like a designer pair of jeans on sale I bought online once was sold out in a day. Although it's great for other stuff that are always there, like makeup and skincare.

I find this, the amount of stuff ive waited for and then it sells out and never goes back in stock is annoying
