Dave, to get one of your top five in a lifetime would be a thrill!!! I couldn’t imagine the feeling you had by getting all those in one year. Absolutely amazing! I appreciate you also showing the cards you didn’t get. Just to SEE that Clemente standup in your video was exciting. I’ve been hoping one day to add the Pete Rose standup to my collection. One of my favorite pickups was a card you owned(1965 Topps Embossed S.Koufax) from the “basement find” that I won in an auction from Baseball Collector-Mike). I already had one but thought it would be very cool to own something that you had at one time in your collection. Thanks for all you do for this hobby. You've taught me a lot and its been amazing watching u and hearing u talk about shooting for your "always" cards with the collectors passion it makes me smile. Thanks for passing on the knowledge. Sidenote, we wanted to get blue or gray i guess frwnchienpupp in color but theyre so expensive. Tried to find one in a shelter but prob not ever likely to happen.its all dollars which is sad buva reality. Ended up getting a golden shepard lookin dog from a shelter. Its ashame certain breeds are charged fortunes for when its a dog u always wanted. Long idk why typed it. Stay blessed, hope u and the family are well

Man…Dave, you have an incredible collection. The Matty is a great addition. I’m looking for a low grade Mays Stahl Meyer as well. However, the Matty American Caramel Die Cut is on my radar.

Man the 1967 Clemente stand-up, those are so rare. Howard was on my channel this year and showed his, it’s the die cut one, he said he thinks there are 2-3 die cut and 2-3 uncut. What did that end up selling for? I agree with you, the Jackson video was one of the best card videos on RU-vid I’ve seen.
The proof went for around $11,000 . That’s a ton of money but dang I regret not just going for it because the cards I’m targeting here soon I won’t be able to remotely afford

I really love the t206 Wajo it’s always spoke to me. Love the Worch Ruth as well it was great working along side with you as it was being considered. The Joe Jackson story will never get tiring. I love the story and provenance.😊 I hope you have blessed New Year’s and enjoy the relocation.

Glad you were able to get your Jackson back - totally makes sense that is your #1!!! Funny - nothing in my collection that I stretched for ever became a regret but some I missed still haunt me. (Although my hits and misses are not on your level!). Wow that Orange Border Cobb takes my breath away. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for sharing, Dave. I think it is interesting to hear a number of folks talking about "fewer but better" / "quality, not quantity". I am the same way, with just five cards targeted for 2024. Doesn't mean I like the hobby less, just a better understanding of where I derive the most enjoyment. Happy New Year. P.S. - loved your Cracker Jack video......my favorite card you've shared is your 1954 Bowman Ted Williams. Probably the single finest example I have ever seen.
I agree Dave, I would never buy a terrible looking card just to say i I have it. For example people paying ridiculous money for 52 topps mick with borders cut off or looking like it went through a washing machine

Loved the video Dave! Fun pickups with the Jackie and Shoeless Joe. Clemente Standup is a tough card, I can't imagine the price it sold for. There's a Killebrew standup on Ebay, but I just can't justify 5 grand for it, but the same seller has other Killebrew test issues I'm thinking about. I'm in that boat where regular issue cards are not high on my list.
Amazing video, brother! Do u live near NYC? There's a cool display of cards at the MET running until Jan. 24 that u would like. Question: what is your preference in slabs, as far a purchasing value goes? For example, Is a "nice" PSA 6 Namath rookie worth the same to you as a SGC 6?
I’m currently in Midwest. Is it the Jefferson Burdick collection they periodically bring out and show? I GENERALLY prefer SGC for prewar and PSA for post war vintage… but not a big deal to me at all
It is from the Burdick collection! Just curious, why do u prefer SGC/PSA for pre and post war? Do u think SGC is less good at grading post-war cards and PSA less so for pre-war? And, do u buy and crack BVG to send into those PSA or SGC? @@Bluejacket66

Congrats on those great pickups for '23 Dave! I'm sure lots of surprises in terms of pickups for '24. You just never know what you'll run into in auctions or even at the National. All pre-war stuff seems to be getting more and more expensive. I think I'm relegated to pretty much PSA 1s at this point - and be prepared to pay a nice premium for eye appeal. But I guess that's the way it goes. That 1910 E98 Mathewson is an absolute beauty! I've never seen that card before, super rare! Good luck in '24 on your goals Dave and congrats once again!
