I knew Iian and Arthur's design would be at the top two. I enjoy my IC brush immensely, thank you very much. It is my favorite synthetic. I must say the Simpson Trafalgar T3 is very impressive. The knot actually mimics gel tips! It is now on my radar. Thanks again for this session. Enjoy the weekend, and stay safe.
Good evening Kevy. I have to agree with That Darn Rob handles are superb. My collection of That Darn Rob contains 4 Synthetic brushes (2 BOSS knots, a Tuxedo, and a Timberwolf) and they will whip up a lather without fuss. PAA Atomic Rocket synthetic is a great looking brush in the classic cream and red colors. My Simpson Chubby 2 synthetic is a decent brush with a huge sentimental value. Finally, there is the Graydog Spalted Maple handle with a 26 mm synthetic knot...this brush great for building a fluffy lather and the handle has this 3D effect going on when rotated in the light. Those are my favorites in no particular order...I love them all.
Hi Kevy- Great rundown on your synthetic brushes; thank you! I have found that I really enjoy using a Tuxedo knot, 24mm, usually. It hits the sweet spot in lots of different handles. I also have a BOSS knot if I need more backbone for a triple-milled soap. I have a number of other knots, such as Cashmere, synthetic boar, Timber Wolf, etc. All seem great, with easy clean-up and drying. I hope you have a great weekend. Best regards, as always, Mike!
Very nice brushes in deed. The StarCraft design is based on a Canadian made brush called the mohawk which is one of my favorite synthetics. I have just recently received a box of shaving items from one of my subscribers. In the box were six brushes. One of the brushes included is The Simpsons T-three. Wonderful brush, and I also received a brush that was sold on Peter wolfs site that was turned by either his dad, or father-in-law with the Black wolf knot which is absolutely a beautiful brush. The majority of my brush collection consist of synthetics, and every single one of them delivers every time when it comes to performance. All I need now to complete my PAA brush collection is the amber arrow light, and the green Ray. Have a great day, and stay safe. Have also checked out your two videos on your favorite six double edge razors. Very nice choices on stainless, and non-stainless selections.
The Starcraft is modeled after a brush called the Mohawk 5-341.I like my RichMan brushes,Wild West Shaving Company, and all the Phoenix line is awesome.I really like that pokka dot brush, very retro look. Thanks for doing these videos.
PAA Peregrino is my no.1 choice, love the colour, and the handle is perfect. 👌 Remember you using the polka dot one in one of your vids, beautiful brush. 😍
Great video Kevy. Thanks for sharing. Awesome brushes mate. The PAA brush handles are reincarnations of the Ever Ready Retro brushes in the late 50s early 60s. I have the whole family of them now and are all great brushes. Take is easy mate, you and Shona have a great weekend. See you soon, stay safe;-)
Hi Kevy! Besides the KSPD3 (🤣😉) I own a Solar Flare, a Green Ray and a T3. The T3 is a chunky piece of brush. Absolute recommendation. Especially for the price (=20€ where I live). And I think you never go wrong with PAA brushes. Very nice selection you have there. 👍🏻
My number 1 go to brush is a vintage Aluminum Rubberset 400 with a Maggard Razors 24mm brown synthetic knot. This past summer I was totally stunned to find another Rubberset 400 with it's original Brown Boars Hair Knot! When you put both brushes side by side it is very hard to tell them apart. So if anyone has a vintage Aluminum Rubberset 400 you want to put a new knot on you should consider the Maggard Razors 24mm brown synthetic knot.
Nice top 6 synthetic brushes kevy, I have sent this link to Iain. I really was amazed the first time we met and you told me about you're request for a polka dot brush from other artisan brush makers and they come back to you that it was impossible to make a polka dot brush? I had already thought of how to do it before we finished our coffee, Iain is brilliant at making brushes it's a pitty that he is very busy doing his "day job" and not full time making brushes. We agreed that you were the only person that would have polka dot brushes. I have never seen another polka dot brush anywhere in the world. We are really lucky to have an ICShavingbrush. Cheers mate. 🙂🖖
Brilliant Arthur. Yourself and Iain's talents combined are an amazing force. It was a great surprise when you presented the brush to me. I hope Iain does come back to making brushes sometime. Cheers mate. Kevy 👍
I vote #1 for the RazoRock BC Silvertip synthetic too. Not a custom handle but I really like the look of clear and black. This is not only my #1 to use but at less than $20 and sometimes less than $15 on sale or in kits I often use these as gifts - especially in starter kits for friends and family. I’m sure if I had friends making me custom handles or I was indulging myself (and I’d like to) in artisan brushes this brush would be knocked off its throne for me. But artisan hardware and mass produced hardware are really two different categories for me in razors and I’m sure someday brushes might enter my hobby there as well. I appreciate that Kevy included brushes from both categories as both deserve mention and applause for what functions they play in our shaves and our hobby.
@@terrym1065 Thank you. I hope we all enjoy our shaves, our hobby, and our lives. Otherwise, what’s the point of scraping little tiny hairs off our faces?! ;-)
I really only use two brushes with any kind of consistency -- the Kevy Shaves' Discovery and PAA's Peregrino. While I have other brushes (and one I've revamped), I only use those two.
My top 3 Synthetic knots are, Cashmere - Timberwolf- plissoft. also gotta give a shout out to the Omega Evo beautiful knot, but too much backbone for me sometimes causes irritation on my face
I like synthetic brushes also. I have the Atomic rocket, paa, Plisson Loccetane, boti annual ring, Yaqi mokka. Last two from Aliexpress Would like to buy that Simpsons brush.
I’m curious to what you think of the Isle of Man TT brush by Simpsons? It’s my first brush I’ve owned. Also, have you tried the new Phoenix Artisan Accoutrements, Astraeus brush? I just ordered the Astraeus, should be in the mail in a week or two, can’t wait!
I like synthetics but they seem very similar, irrespective of brand or style of knot. I like boar the best at present, because it's got more backbone and scritch. Are there any synthetics with backbone?
Most synthetics these days are soft. Best idea might be to get a handle and a synthetic knot, and set the knot quite low. That would give you more backbone. Kevy 🙂👍
Sorry to hear that the thistle is the national flower of Scotland. They're an invasive (VERY invasive) weed where we are, so it's difficult to appreciate them. Anyway, I find myself addicted to your channel. It has been very helpful to me in making buying decisions. All the best to you and yours. BTW, when do we get to meet Mrs. Kevy?
Hi Kevy I I bought a T3 and I love it in fact it is my go to brush. Have you tried the Executive shaving G4 I had a good report on it but is it 3 times better in than the T3 as it is 3 times the price. Thank you for your time making the video Keep well and keep safe.
New to the channel, what a find, new to DE shaving. Enjoying your content! I've been using the wilkinson sword safety razor, wilkinson sword brush and blades, bought myself a fancier soap but would definitely fancy a nice, preferably synthetic and affordable, brush. Does anyone have any suggestions where to start? I'm baffled. I picked up a rockwell 6c on ebay cheapy. Looking forward to giving that a go!
Hi Matthew. Good to have you in here, many thanks. The Wilkinson sword razor is great. Have a search for some synthetic brushes by Phoenix shaving, Yaqi, DS Cosmetic. Also another excellent brush is the Simpson Trafalgar T3, very affordable and it works great. Where are you located in the world? Let me know and I'll give you some links to places you can look at a selection of brushes. Cheers. Kevy 🙂👍
@@kevyshaves4109 thanks for the welcome kevy, I'm in England, not got quite the same water quality as your part of the world. Thanks for the tips. Will definitely check them out

@@kevyshaves4109 fantastic, thanks so much. Looks like I'm treating myself. Looking more and more like a life style than just part of my weekend routine, love it!
Hi Kevy I bought a T3 and I love it in fact it has become my go to brush. Have you tried the Executive shaving G4 as I had a good report on it but is it 3 times better than the T3 as it is 3 times the price. Enjoyed seeing your selection and thank you for your time making the video. Keep well and keep safe.
Hi Les, phew!.....took a while catching you this time! 😂😂😂. I received the T2 this morning. I hope it will be as good as the T3. People say for the price it's a great brush, but I think it's a great brush at any price. Really impressive brush. Med and large jocks from Executive are nice too. The Executive Ultimate G4 is a great brush. It is better than the T3 but not 3 times better! A lot of it depends on what sort of brush you like. I know people who swear by the Kent BK8 silvertip badger brush but I find mine too floppy. I much prefer my Taylors HT2 super badger. But now I'm wandering out of synthetic... Take care my friend! Dave.
@@davesheppard8797 Hi Dave good to hear from you. I am impressed with my T3 and I also have a T1 which I bought for a vintage travel kit my wife bought me. It has two chrome containers one for a shaving stick and the other for a brush and the T1 is a perfect fit. Although smaller than the T3 it still works well and holds plenty of lather. I have toyed with a T2. Away from synthetic I bought a EJ best Badger which I like and since buying it it by noticed on it came out on quite a few reviews as top overall brush. Boar I have a Semogue 830 which I also like. All good but it's nice to have a change. Nice to catch up hope your keeping well. Keep well and keep safe. Les.
Would second the Wolf Whiskers Black Wolf Fan knot. Face or bowl lathers a dream, plus got it set in a beautiful black & white marbled handle with slanted fluting.
