Hey Mark, i just got my T3 the other day and its amazing! BUUT the Muhle stand that I got for my razor and brush doesnt fit it. Do you have any suggestions on stands for this particular brush?
@MarkSzorady
@MarkSzorady 2 года назад
Austin, my apologies for the late reply. Yes, the T3 is quite generous in handle size. I cannot think of any stand that might work. I usually make sure it's a dry as possible simply set it on its base. Again, I make sure it's good and dry. The good news is, synthetic brushes clean up quite well and a few vigorous shaves sheds about 95% of the water in the knot. I'll keep a lookout for a compatible stand.

You are getting a nice splay there. I just got a t2 and it’s quite stiff and does not splay easily. Maybe since t3 has more loft it’s easier? Or does the t2 just take some time to break in? Great videos! Cheers!

ally, the handle and knot don't lend themselves to many stands. I use the Vikings Blade Admiral stand. I think it barely fits, but I'll need to double check, I usually make sure it's been cleaned and dried after use and simply stand it on its base. the old hanging versus standing debate.:)

Enjoyed the video I live in the UK and Simpson brushes are well known as they are made here. Having seen your opinion on the brush I am thinking of purchasing one at the price it looks a bargain. Most of the Simpson brushes I have looked at have been between £60 and £180. The other brush I seen you use which interests me is the Semogue 830 which you also seemed to be impressed with. Thank you very much for your time making the videos.

Hi, Igor.:) With this brush, no shedding whatsoever. I've had a few synthetic brushes throw off a hair her and there and this is sometimes to be expected during an initial break-in period. But this T3 hasn't lost one hair AFAICS.

Just wanted to say thank you Mark. I took your advice and bought a sample pack of blades that specifically had all the ones you recommended. 130 all in there own 5 pack box. Probably 70% mild-medium blades from looking into them. The green ASTRA's really worked well. I find blades seem to work better the 2nd or 3rd time rather then brand new... is that a common thing or me just being new to DE razors?
@MarkSzorady
@MarkSzorady 4 года назад
Thank you very much, LandLockedSailor69! Yes, many wet shavers agree with your assessment that a blade is sometimes better on the second shave rather than the first. Some wet shavers even cork their blades before first use in order to "break it in" so to speak.:) sharpologist.com/how-to-cork-a-razor-blade/

Simpson's does make enviable brushes. I want to get one someday. I am beginning to wonder about the huge brushes though. Seems a little like using a 4 inch paint brush to paint a window sash. I don't understand the benefits of it. I have a few 22mm and 24mm, which compared to some vintage brushes are huge. Just curious.

@@MarkSzorady I've been watching your reviews on various Vikings Blade adjustable razors. Particularly for head shaving. The Crusader Ragnarr seems very appealing to me due to the lighter weight and longer handle. Plus I love the black/brass color scheme and the numbers standout well. I'm a seasoned head shaver. But most of my experience is with a Mach 3. Recently transitioned to the Leaf/Twig combo. I get an excellent shave with the Leaf using Astra greens. Just purchased a tan Henson as I want to try my hand at fixed head safety razors. The adjustable razor sounds very appealing to me as I can set it mild for head shaving and more aggressive for face shaving. Of all the Vikings Blade adjustable razors which do you recommend as the best one for head shaving. Keep in mind I'm a greenhorn when it comes to using a fixed head safety razor. Any input/advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks!
@MarkSzorady
@MarkSzorady 3 года назад
@@Obeconobe7 Your reasoning is correct. You can dial the Crusader down for a head shave to make it milder and p it a bit for a fae shave. However, I've tempted fate and turned the razor up too aggressively for a head shave and gave myself a pretty good nick. Lesson learned.:) My advice, definitely keep the Crusader in the milder range for doing a head shave. if coming over from a cart, the Henson is a very good choice. I use the mild version and its wonderful for head shaves.:)

Do you use any badger brushes mate? I’m new to DE shaving. I’ve only shaved twice with one so far, and I’m getting some serious irritation. I’ve heard a synthetic brush could cause a lot less irritation. I’ve been using a new badger brush, Merkur 34C and Nivea balm. I’ve bought some Proraso Pre shave and an Alum block, but I haven’t used them yet. I’m hoping they will help.
@davesheppard8797
@davesheppard8797 3 года назад
Hi Harvey, It could be the soap you used or you could be allergic to the badger bristles or perhaps it wasn't properly steralised. I had an issue once but it was down to the soap I was using. Proraso white is very good and I own one of these T3 Trafalgar brushes and it is a great brush. Synthetics don't lather quite as well as badger but they are much easier to look after. They dry a lot quicker and don't splay out once they are dry, they just keep their original shape. The 34c is a fairly mild razor. What blade did you use? This could also cause irritation. I had a bad reaction with Nivea balm also so I don't use that anymore. If it is the brush or soap causing irritation you would get that irritation before the razor even touched your face. I think its a process of elimination for you. Best wishes, Dave.

@@davesheppard8797 Hi, thanks for the help. I’ve been shaving for sometime now, and it was just my technique that was bad, and my skin not being used to being shaved. I had been using an electric razor for years, and not even shaving close. I had stubble. It’s taken me months to learn to shave properly. I use a variety of vintage Gillette razors now, and usually a Nacet or Pol Silver blade. I no longer get the irritation or cuts that I used to. The hair on my neck grows in several directions, so I have to shave in several directions. I didn’t do that in the beginning 🤦‍♂️😂
@davesheppard8797
@davesheppard8797 3 года назад
@@HarveyJohnWillmott yes! I had to map my face as my stubble grows in all different directions 😅😅. I was going to suggest Nacet as a good blade, they are one of my favourites. I also find Supershave X blades really smooth and are really great when paired with my Jagger 3one6. Feather blades I have to be careful with. It's a learning curve for us all at first, hopefully a fun one! Have fun and stay safe mate! Dave.

The thing that intrigues me Mark - have you picked up one of the smaller size Trafalgar brushes by mistake from your shaving station - the brush you're using for the lather up looks like a T2 to me???
@MarkSzorady
@MarkSzorady 3 года назад
Hi, Cantorisalto1. This brush is absolutely the T3. I purchased the T3 directly from Simpson. The video was shot in March, 2020. At that time, I did not own any other Simpson brush. I later purchased the T2 and the T1, through Amazon, in October, 2020. However, I line them up next to each other so I can see their size differences. Apart from one another, I can understand how the T2 may be mistaken for the T3. Once you see them side by side, it's clear which is which.:)
@Cantorisalto1
@Cantorisalto1 3 года назад
@@MarkSzorady Hi Mark - thanks for your reply. The brush you presented at the beginning of the video yes I could see it was the T3. It somehow looked a lot small on the handle when in use. Anyhow that was the T3 throughput the entire show. I've got one on the way as we speak. I am also the proud owner of a Chubby 2 in Super Badger which is a phenomenal knot. However I don't want to be rough with it when lathering up having cost me a pretty penny. There's something about the T3 and I just love the shape of the thing. Being a synthetic I can put it through it's paces as well being so much cheaper than my other Simpsons brush. Thanks again Mark - kindest regards Richard (from England)
