Hello Miranda, I certainly did enjoy this extra video. My daughter and I are huge Agatha Christie fans and we once enjoyed a magical trip on the steam train from Dartmouth to Greenway Halt, walking up to Greenway, having a look round the house and taking tea before returning on the Dittisham Ferry (I've done this several times now and would thoroughly recommend it). So my favourite audio book to pick would be Deadman's Folly which was clearly based on Greenway. I adore listening to Anna Massey - such faultless diction is a joy to hear - and am certainly going to add Murder in Mesopotamia to my Audible library, thank you so much Miranda for this wonderful list. Happy reading, Teresa 🔎🧶📚♥

Hi Miranda, a bit late to this video but I have to comment as Agatha Christie is my all-time favourite author. I have almost all her books on my bookshelf including the short story collections. Other than Philomel Cottage which is such a suspenseful read, I like another short story called The Lamp which I find so chilling, haunting and sad. I seldom hear Agatha fans talk about it but it is one that I think deserves more recognition. Thanks for this vlog! xx

Ha!!!! I dropped everything to watch this video… I love Agatha Christie…we literally said “it’s so good at the same time about “AND THEN THERE WERE NONE”… it’s the book that started it all for me with Agatha Christie.. “THE ABC MURDERS” was my favorite until I read “Halloween Party”… Miranda I think RU-vid Comments we’re down because the moment you put up this video, I left a comment after watching… so you may see this comment twice 🤦🏾‍♀️🤷🏾‍♀️🥰.., thank You so much and I love your Agatha Christie T-Shirt 💕

I discovered Agatha Christie in my 20's and once I started to read her I became a bit obsessed and ended up with a bookcase filled with her books in my tiny apartment. I recently binge watched both Poirot and Miss Marple, neither of which I had seen before and loved them, so re reading her mysteries has been on my mind. Having never listened to an audiobook, your video has inspired me to give it a try. Thank you for your recommendations and I love the tee shirt!

Hello Miranda, excellent recommendations, and I too love Hugh Fraser's narration, which is pretty much perfect. I've read Agatha Christie since the age of eleven. Philomel Cottage is one of my favourite short stories too, so frightening; I have a cassette tape of it read by Tim Piggott-Smith. Let me recommend the 1937 film 'Love From A Stranger', with Basil Rathbone. It was based on Philomel Cottage and even has a young Joan Hickson in it as a silly and not-too-bright parlourmaid! And such a thrilling end! If you haven't seen it yet, the 1980 television version of 'Why Didn't They Ask Evans' with Francesca Annis is perfection.

I loved this video! I read my first Agatha Christie at age eleven (The Murder of Roger Ackroyd) and I’ve been a huge fan ever since. I love the characters and atmosphere as well as the mysteries. Like you I love to listen to them as audio books, Agatha Christie is probably my favourite author for audio books and I listen to her books again and again. I may remember who did it but sometimes forget how and why, and I love listening out for clues! There are so many great Christies it’s hard to pick my top choice, but Evil Under the Sun and Five Little Pigs are two favourites. I love David Suchet, I think he’s the perfect Poirot, but Hugh Fraser is my favourite narrator, I think he reads them brilliantly and is great with all the voices!

I LOVED AND ENJOYED THIS SO MUCH, thank you ❣️ I am a huge Agatha Christie Fan since 1972 - my first book: "Death comes as the end". Due to copyright Agatha's book were republished in Germany since last year. I am very surprised to hear her Audio books are read by the actors of the series ! This doesn't happen with german audio books, sadly. How I would like to hear David Suchet reading Poirot .....love his voice. My favourite book ( and audio) is "The moving finger" 📚📚📚 Again I have to say: english book covers are so BEAUTIFUL...much more colourful as our germans. "Read you soon" 🙋🏼‍♀️

I think I would like Murder in Mesopotamia as I feel Anna Massey had such a beautiful voice. I must check out Philomel Cottage as it’s not one I’ve come across. I just happened on this, so I wasn't aware of you or your YT channel. I discovered Agatha Christie a few decades ago by way of the Joan Hickson Miss Marple TV series, then the Poirot series. I've seen two other Miss Marple series with different actresses, but neither of them could compare in any way with Joan. (You might know this: Joan and Agatha actually met decades before Joan's TV series, and Agatha told Joan that she'd like for her (Joan) to play her Miss Marple some day.) Agatha's subtle sense of humor is so wonderful! Hugh Fraser was absolutely perfect as Hastings, and was a great conduit for the humor. Not having seen any other of your videos, I wonder if you know and have any opinion on either of the Lord Peter Wimsey TV series... in my opinion, the Edward Petherbridge series is at the very summit of British TV quality - right up there with "Yes, Minister" / "Yes, Prime Minister," "Upstairs Downstairs," "The Sandbaggers," and the Alison Steadman / David Bamber / Julia Sawalha version (which also featured Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle) of "Pride and Prejudice."
@MirandaMills
@MirandaMills 2 года назад
Yes those are all wonderful old TV series, but I prefer Ian Carmichael in the role. It has always impressed me that Christie herself saw Joan Hickson suiting the role. Welcome to my channel!

All Agatha Christie books are so clever, it's difficult to make a choice, but I think "The body in the library" is a great favorite of mine, and "A murder is announced", so funny ; well, maybe next week it could be different ones, it depends of the mood I am in. You make me feel like buying them all again but in their orginial version (I have read french versions so far). Thank you for introducing me to Josephine Tey, I am reading "Miss Pym disposes" with great delight.

So many of my favorites in your Top Ten list! I am also a huge fan of Agatha Christie and Jane Marple is my favorite! My #1 pick from Christie and the one I would recommend is: And Then There Were None. The first time I read it, it blew me away! I also have the audio version, but read by Dan Stevens who does a really good job! I completely agree about re-reading Agatha Christie, I might remember the ending, but I forget some of the details in the middle; of course, even if I do remember the details, they're always worth a re-read. 🤓 I also enjoy Ariadne Oliver and really like Hallowe'en Party, which I usually reread in October. Joan Hickson is Miss Marple to me, as well. I do enjoy the movies with Margaret Rutherford, but she plays Miss Marple in a completely different way. I don't mean to bore you, but I could talk about Agatha Christie all day! 😬

Miranda, I just stumbled across your channel a couple of weeks ago and have been watching everything! You're amazing. I love reading so very much, and you have opened my world to so many authors I was unaware of. Agatha Christie and the Sherlock Holmes books were my first foray into the world of mystery novels. I started reading them at about the same age that you started. I have recently discovered the Mrs. Pollifax series written by Dorothy Gilman starting in the 1960's. They're divine, and I was wondering if you had read them and what you thought. Thank you for all of your hard work putting out these videos.

Thank you for another lovely video. I've only read the Poirot short stores, and I think A Pocketful of Rye when I was a teenager. Zoe Wannamaker as Ariadne Oliver is my favouite character in the film adaptations so I might try listening to Dead Man's Folley. I have this strange problem, that my imagination doesn't like to go back and forth between film and books. I had a bad experience when I was a child, where the movie erased the job my mind had done with creating the characers, and for this reason I will not watch my most loved novels. I'm afraid the excellent David Suchet has done the opposite with Agatha Christie. I love the T.V. series, but because they were all filmed in the 1930's, I feel almost cheated when the books suddenly take place in the 1960's. A little neurotic. I wish I could be more flexible, but there it is!
