If you switched out the exhaust, this is an expected result. The original system is designed to take advantage of the backpressure of the exhaust. If it's switched out, the pressures won't be correct. It's kind of like it's singing out of tune. The harmonics in the engine doesn't mach the exhaust anymore.

Agree with the rider position. Haven't had the engine sound issue, but yet again I don't ride 3rd 30mph I stay on 2nd. 3rd for me is 40 45mph more.

He’s complaining about nothing. That choppiness is because he’s goin to slow for the gear he’s in. Either speed up or drop a gear. Gotta remember that’s a liter bike not a 636. Jus u said @jerry lozada.

Yeah I'm trying to adjust what I'm using for in town riding to make it a little more tolerable. I'm just used to not having to worry about it from the 636 to N1K they ran fine in any gear. I'm pretty sure this is directly related to the exhaust change I made so hopefully I'll get it sorted out in the near future. Thanks for the suggestion!

@@StormtrooperRides , Dear Sir , i have been planning on buying a motorcycle for a long time my heart wants the zx10r but practically a more informed choice would be a ninja1000 sx , as i want to use this a my primary means of transport for daily riding , travel , work , etc . how long do you think the motor on the zx10r will last provided i am careful and do all the service and maintenance correctly .

Most bikes typically run lean from the factory to meet emissions standards so even a stock bike would benefit from a tune

I agree the rider position feels a little uncomfortable for me. But I must say I'm getting more use to it. I just turned 1400 miles on mine. I have not had the sound that you are experiencing I have not changed my exhaust yet though. As soon as I do I will be on the look out for that issue. Thanks for posting this man.

Yeah I'm pretty sure the more I rewatch video from before I changed the exhaust its directly related to the M4. I'm not really sure what to do about it at this point...but I'm going to keep on researching it and see if I can improve things with some additional mods....maybe block off plates and pair removal..and perhaps a full exhaust. I'll keep everyone posted cuz I really need to resolve this issue. Its driving me insane and I'm worried I may be damaging the bike. Appreciate the support and your info! Thanks!

I have a 2019 636 I use for track days and I can tell you that after I put on a slip on exhaust I sent the ECU off to be flash. It made a big difference in smoothing out the engine at lower speeds.

Totally agree with your observations in relation to the engine, those engine variables are a bit uncomfortable, but when you get on the bike, its driving is magical.

I had the same issues that your having with my 2020 ZX10R. I went with helibars clipons and vortex Rearsets and it totally transformed the bike so much more comfortable. The bars are higher and more closer to your body and the Rearsets I moved forward and down .

Once you remove the cat all bets are off until you tune it with a piggy back or ECU flash.

My only diss on 21 ZX10R is the back brake !!! I like too use it too drag or back in too a fast turn not shere what the hang up is the front is Rock solid otherwise SWEET !!!

You will get it sorted out. I may be wrong with this but I'm thinking the 2021 models had to pass tougher emission standards. This may be in play in your case. Something to ponder. Try to remember if this was happening before the exhaust mods. You will get it worked out.

I think I agree with you William... I rewatched the little bit of video I have where I had the stock exhaust on and it definitely wasn't doing it then. I really feel like this is an AFR thing and its being caused by the slip on and cat removal. Hopefully I'm not doing too much damage to the bike as it is right now. I'm very seriously considering the full Graves exhaust..not that I think that will cure anything but I just like the sound of that one I heard on 650IB's channel. That is the sound I'm looking for. Not sure if he's done anything else to it. Anyway, take it in for first service here in a week or so, hopefully I'll find a solution. Thought about putting in block off plates and removing the pair system. Maybe that would help. At this point I'm just not sure. Thanks for your comments as always and I'll keep you posted!

@@StormtrooperRides I think everyone is in the same boat until the ECU guys crack the code. If you are getting some pops in decel you may want to do something with the pair system but I don't think that's going to fix what you are talking about. But it's nice to get that junk out of the way. If I had to guess, the new emission standards have all to do with what is going on. One of the first things they do is lean things out where they can. Again, just guessing, the fuel map may be already on edge in the range you are having trouble with and by removing some exhaust backpressure you may have pushed things over the edge just a bit. Again, just a guess. Not happy with the sound? Change to a system you like. I hate to make it sound that simple but it is. A flat note on a musical instrument will always be a flat note. Statements like that are always easy when I am spending someone else's money but you know what I'm saying. Maybe try reaching out to 650ib and see what he thinks.

At slow speeds in a higher gear, you are going to hear that. Your ZX-6R is doing it, too. It just might not be as noticeable with a different exhaust. What is happening is that you have two forces between which you ping-pong at lower speeds but higher gear: There's the forward torque of the engine that you get from accelerating, and then there's the back torque that the rear wheel applies to the engine as you let off the throttle. Each force gives you a different engine sound when it's applied. There's kind of a space in the middle when you are simply applying enough throttle to maintain your speed. While in this space, you will keep ping-ponging between and barely touching each force before ponging back to the other, thus giving you a bit of a sputtering sound as each force is applied for just a moment before the next force is applied. My ZX-6R does the same thing. I didn't used to hear it with the stock exhaust. But now that I have installed a whole new exhaust system, I hear it quite frequently. Again, your ZX-6R is doing it, too. The sound is just being masked by your exhaust. You also have a bigger engine with the ZX-10R, which can contribute to the sound being accentuated a little more.

I think that noise you hear is the traction control. Maybe you can low it in order to silence that chop. My z1000sx used to make something similar.

sounds like at 30 you should be in 2nd gear on the 10R.

yup, i agree and have adjusted....but the issue remains either way. I'm pretty sure based on comments and after giving it a little thought, that this is the result of the new exhaust. I appreciate the feedback though and I totally agree I'm not running enough rpms at certain speeds. Just a little bit to get used to coming from the N1K. Thanks Kevin!

@@StormtrooperRides I have had a 2013 ninja 650 since purchased new and thinking about upgrading to either a zx-6r or ninja 1000. If I got the 6r , I think I world keep my 650.

I just bought that same bike over the weekend but what you are doing is giving your opinion this bike doing the lowest speeds ever and in every single time cruising around your in thrid gear on a bike like that. My experience coming from a bunch of different liter bikes this review not worthy of the test you gave it to give a rating.

The first mod I do to my bikes are helibars, changes the whole experience for the better. ECU flash is a must as well, wakes the bike up in every way.

You never noticed it with the oem exhuast ? Like you i'm guessing that the removal of the exhuast valve/oem exhuast without doing AFR changes could be the problem. Had planned to buy one but they're sold out everywhere. Could i ask how tall you are and how you feel about the seat/footpeg height ? Seems like adjustable rearsets is in the cards for me.

No, pretty sure this started after I put on the new exhaust. More than likely an AFR issue so not exactly sure what could help it at this point. Very seriously considering a full exhaust so I can at least get the sound I want. So long as I'm not damaging the bike I can live with the sputter but I'm really hoping they crack the ECU soon. As for the bike supply, yeah they are really scarce but if you're willing to drive a little usually you can find something. Around here the dealers showroom's are pathetic, they are literally empty and any bike on the floor is usually sold. Crazy! To answer your question, I'm 6ft 0in and I have adjusted to the seating position and find it just fine now. It was a little bit hard to get used to at first after the N1K and 636. I read on the forums that a lot of people are changing the rearsets to adjustable ones. I think for now I'm going to pass but I DO think it would make the bike a little more comfortable. @@StormtrooperRides You could try a power commander V fueling module and have a custom map done to tide you over until the ECU is tunable. These bikes run so lean and have power cutoffs that makes the throttle almost like an on/off switch, all to pass emissions etc. From what i can see you have decatted your bike and removed the exhuast valve wich makes it a full system, with that the bike runs even leaner now. Eventhough you have access to a lot more parameters later when the ECU is tunable a PCV allows you to correct fueling and AFR. It made a night and day difference when i had one installed after installing a full Arrow system on my Z1000. Hey StormtrooperNinja, did you ever end up sorting this engine sound out? I just installed the M4 slip-on on my 2022 ZX10 and instantly I’m getting the same choppiness. It’s driving me NUTS! Lol. Wondering if the ECU needs to be flashed.

Yes it for sure needs a flash and it makes a big difference. I went with a flash from brentuning but I hear equally good results from Moore mafia and others using the woolich platform. Also over the past months I’ve learned to ride this bike a bit differently. This bike really seems to like 2nd and 3rd max for around town and under 40mph. Basically just keeping the revs higher in general keeps this bike happier. Hope that helps and I’m going to go into more details of what was done in my tune. Coming soon!

I agree with you 100%. Iv put over 40k miles on zx6s in my life. Decided to go with the 2021 10 for once. Got my wife a 6. For all the reasons you said and more I find myself either taking her 6 or wishing I was on it. The 10 just wants to get beaten on. It's only purpose in life is to go 100+. Fuck I can't even roll in first at low speeds in parking lots or itll die, have to roll with the clutch in. The 10 is serious fuckin business and I am not a serious business rider. Im thinking of selling it and getting either a ninja 1000sx or a ZH2. Shit maybe I should just get myself another zx6! But I would like to try riding in a less aggressive riding position. Experiencing a lot of neck pain at the back base of my helmet lately, not sure if its the helmet or if im just broken.

Sometime, could you add a profile image of you on the bike. I'm 6'2 and do not fit on most(any) sport bikes, (eg recently 2022 s1000r). Though I never considered bar risers and rear set lowers, as below. As you say supply is nonexistent and you have to put a deposit without seeing the bike (refundable of course). Will be riding a ninja 1000 at Kawasaki event in July. No zx10's available. Rode BMW s1000xr which was near perfection. Thanks. Looking forward to more content.

For me the 2021 Zx10r riding experience was not good at all. The shifting was delayed and felt like the brakes were being applied every time I shifted. The new throttle setup up was off. Every time throttle was closed there would be a sudden chop. Basically between the throttle and shifting I was being jolted forward all the time. It’s a common complaint with this bike even with cats installed. Thought it would get better after break in but it didn’t. A flash and new mapping would fix it..But who wants to wait and why would they release it that way ? There are other videos about it on RU-vid

Interesting points about the seat, peg and bars geometry of the ZX6R vs. the ZX10R. Obviously you can probably fix that with an aftermarket seat, rearsets and if need be bars. The engine issue at low speeds will most likely be fixed with an ECU flash and tune. Have you reached out to any tuners to see if the flash is available yet? Also, what RPMS are you at on the ZX10R when you are in 3rd gear going at 30mph? I found on my 2014 ZX10R it did much better in 2nd gear at 30mph.

I have a flashed 2020 zx 10r. It is a missle. As soon as I hit 5000 rpms it takes off. At any gear at any rpms it never boggs down or sputters. Most amazing power band I have ever experienced on a litrebike. And I have owned 32. Just get your 21 zx 10r flashed. When you can

In stock form the fueling is sh!t on these new ZX-10’s, they are super super lean, Brentuning has figured out how to unlock the ecu for derestricting & tuning, a bit pricey @ $650 but well worth it!

Yeah I think that is the issue and agree... gotta wait until they unlock the ECU though and that is not looking good at this point. Hopefully soon. May consider a Power Commander in the mean time so I can at least get the AFR right and not damage the bike. As soon as ECU flash is available though I'm going to get it shipped out! It doesn’t need a tune, it’s a slip on. Jus need to be in a higher gear that’s all. If u do a full exhaust system then yes u need a tune. If u think about. Ur 636 will do the same thing if u drop in a lower at a slow speed. What u are talking about is actually normal. My does that same thing. It’s not an issue.

dude its a zx10 and your at 3k rpm. the engine is NOT tuned or comfortable at those rpms. every engine has a sweet spot and for zx10s the comfy rpm is around 7-10k rpm. thats why it likes to be at 2nd gear at 40mph.. know the engineering a but before you complai. if ypu want a more torquey and street bias bike get a super naked. I ride a z900 for that reason. amazing street bike! zx10 is best at high speed.

You can’t compare a 600 to a 1000 bike. Of course they’re going to have different measurements from the foot peg to the handle bar and the seat height because 1000cc bike is a bigger bike. And of course the handlebars on the 1000cc will be further than the 600 because it’s a bigger bike.. hello! You are just used to the 600 and now You have to get used to the 1000 rider position and dimensions. I bet if you had 1000cc as your first bike then you would probably think the 600 feels a little different.

And one is a super sport bike and the other isn't, 2 different categories. That's the reason why handle bar and riding position are different, all the super sport bikes have further riding position and are "less confortante" to ride around the town. Those are bike primally made for the track not for the street🤣. I believe this man doesn't know what he bought

In my opinion the sound you are hearing is due to m4 muffler geometry which kinda gives that raspy rumble almost poppy rapid bubbles. That is a characteristic of m4 mufflers. I personally mainly use m4 's just because of that sound but i do understand where you are coming from if you want to just have a chill 3rd gear stroll and want your engine sound smooth. Unfortunately the m4 does not allow you to do that . I do believe that getting the getting a more number for the 'Q' quiet insert with significantly help with that noise and it will be the best budget solution that wouldnt involve you changing the whole muffler. m4exhaust.com/product/q1-quiet-insert/

I have a 2020 Ninja 1000, how do you find the zx10r compared to your N1K? I've never owned a supersport bike. Went from Ninja 650R to this bike now.
