In this video I share my UBC (University of British Columbia) master of architecture experience. You might be thinking about attending the program but perhaps you aren't sure if it would be a good fit. Well in this video I share why I applied to the program (key factors of consideration), why I chose UBC, my admission of advance standing, the courses, design studios, my thesis, working while studying, opportunities for awards, what I loved about the program and finally what I didn't like about the program.

Hi ya I'm moataz from Egypt 🇪🇬 and I was thinking of doing my masters in architecture in Canada. Is the acceptance rate for international students high in UBC ?

Hi, thank you so much for this video. It really has helped me solved some of my questions! Im from Peru, do you think financial aid is easily granted for international students? Or do you have recommendations that maybe I can take in mind. Thank you again!

@@moatazmattar4714 this will depend on the school and I don't personally know what is the acceptance rate. I would recommend you to apply to a few programs and see what happens. I wouldn't bother looking into the numbers but rather focus on developing a good/strong application.

Hi Ashley, thank you for these videos- they're so helpful and insightful. especially since UBC is my top choice for a 3-year professional Master of Architecture. But I am aware that UBC's MArch is not necessarily the easiest to get into (I mean, I'm also worried because my GPA from an American university is only about 3.3, and I have no Architecture background), so how do I put together the strongest possible application to maximize my chances of getting accepted, and also score some scholarships, graduate assistantships, and other financial awards?

Hi Ashley! Such a great video! I would love to read your thesis, for sure! About master programs, could you give me any advice? I'm a fresh graduated architect from Brazil and I did research here in the area of Restoration and Historic Buildings Conservation. Is there any Msc or Master in this same area in Canada, maybe in UBC? Thank you! You got a new subscriber!

Hi Joao! Thank you 😊 Will share details about my thesis, appreciate the feedback 😊 UBC doesn't have a program within your interest. However, I found this article which lists all the restoration and historic programs (masters, and even PhD) in Canada; archive.nationaltrustcanada.ca/resources/education/conservation-programs . I hope this helps, keep me posted on your journey.

Can you do a video on 1. What jobs will we can get after finishing M.Arch with the pay scale ? 2. Does the university name really matters for getting a good job after masters or it is just about how well your masters portfolio or the experience ? 3. What kind of level of portfolio is required to get admission in good universities like UBC, UoFT, Ryerson, Carleton and so on ... 4. Does marks really matters for international students to get admission in these colleges or it is just about how well one's portfolio is ?

Hey Ashley..!! Hope you are doing fine. I recently came across your RU-vid channel and your videos have been really helpful and informative. Thanks for explaining things in detail and helping us out especially the ones who are unaware of the exact scenario of education in Canada especially in architecture. I had a concern in mind. Could you please help me out? Being an international student, I was considering course based masters (like in Calgary) over thesis based masters due to the difference in tuition fees. Is there any preference, according to the employers, when it comes to hiring graduates from a university which had a thesis based program over the ones who did a course based one? It would be great if you could help me make an informed decision regarding the course selection based on this. Looking forward for your views on this. Thanks in advance! Lots of love your way🧡

Hi Aastha, thank you for your feedback. I'm happy to hear the content is helpful 😊 I don't know specifically what courses you are looking at however typically there are two types; professional and post professional master degrees. The key element between a professional or post professional masters is a professional masters is required for licensure while a post professional is research based and does not fulfill the requirements for licensure. I would recommend the following video references which contain more insight on this topic; 1. Post professional vs professional masters degree (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hjFiC48_tlY.html), and 2. Why you need a masters degree (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-cXHMoUGJMqk.html) I hope this helps.

Dear Ashley. Thank you for your content! I’m a female intern architect in Ontario. Can you make a video on salary expectations in canada (Ontario specifically) . I feel like nobody likes to talk about it which is beneficial to business owners. No content on the internet which leads to many underpaid interns that don’t even know it.

I have commented on one of your old videos, I hope u will answer. Here I want your guidance too, I have to choose a course in order to study in Canada in 2022, I have completed b.tech in civil(2021) from India. what are the courses I can choose which would allow me to work as a structural engineer or if I want to build my career as an architect, in which course I should apply as an international student. Universities admission procedure is time consuming, I have limited time to decide and get admission as soon as possible in a college or my next year would be wasted as seats will get filled up, thanks.
@architecture_tv
@architecture_tv 2 года назад
Hi Rahil! I can't speak about the structural engineer process however based on your undergrad degree and your interest of becoming a licensed architect you can look into master degree programs that don't require a background in architecture. I have a list of the master degree programs you can consider based on your bachelors degree on my blog; www.ashleyeusebio.com/blog/master-of-architecture-programs-without-a-bachelor-of-architecture . UBC master of architecture is on the list. I hope this helps.
@zeekay6067
@zeekay6067 2 года назад
If you want to become an Architect you would have to do the 3 year+accredited M.Arch program and work under a Certificate of Practice Holder Architect for atleast another 4 years (maybe 3) then you take the ExAC exam and get a licence. But licence is not enough. You need certificate of practice. Add another 3 years. In these years you can bid goodbye to your career in Civil Engineering. My advice. Apply for a Masters degree in Civil specialising in your field like Stuctures, Geo etc. Pay will be prob twice that of an Architect. And yes Structural Engineers can design houses. No need of Architect. Larger buildings you cannot. Best of Luck. You will do well iA.

Hi Ashley. I'm an registered architect in india with 2 years of experience. I did B.arch which is 5 year course. My cgpa is 6.7(64%). Is it possible for me to do masters in Canada with my cgpa or is it possible for me to do pg diploma and do masters with the help of pg diploma marks or can I do masters in some other country and then move to Canada?
@architecture_tv
@architecture_tv 2 года назад
Hi Madhan! This will depend on the program you are looking into since the admission requirements for grades (specifically) vary from program to program. I would encourage you to apply and see what happens. Try to focus on producing the best portfolio you can and apply to a few different programs in Canada. You will only know when you try and apply. In Canada there are 12 accredited programs for masters and it's important that the program is accredited in order to become a licensed architect once you graduate. I have a video which talks about the 12 master programs which might help you: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6pw2PjCV8kk.html . I hope this helps 😊
