I'm just a normal 24 year old girl with a lot of her shoulders (or in her belly) and hoping to be heard on the RU-vid community so as to get more recognition for Ulcerative Colitis sufferers! I didn't explain it very well but I want the recognition our sister disease, Crohns, gets because I feel like we're the less heard. I'm sorry to have rambled on with my own story but that story is something I know feel so strongly about and I wished there was someone on here to tell me these sorts of things, to make me feel less alone.

Hi Katy. First of all thanks for sharing your story! I'm almost 46 and diagnosed when 25. All I can tell you is that the first times are the most difficult, then you'll be able to cope with the disease, apart from the occasional...incident, and through the years the symptoms diminish or get less acute. That's quite an advantage. Stay serene and focus on what counts for good, don't overwhelm yourself with worries. Be matter-of-fact, organised but never anxious (as far as it is possible) and don't neglect your therapies, in other words: don't do like me ;) Best regards!

Thank you Carlo! Lovely words. :) one really lovely and positive thing is that people with this really stick together and make each other feel loved and supported. X

Hi Katy, thank you for sharing your story, it was a really brave step to take and I hope lots of people watch your video. What I saw when I watched it was gorgeous young lady who took a very brave step in telling her story. Having worked for nearly 40 years now as a nurse, I also know that there is nowhere near enough support and advice for people with ulcerative colitis and the internet is a double edged sword in that there is loads of info out there but there can be too much. What your video does so beautifully is share the human side of living with ulcerative colitis as a young lady and some of the challenges it poses, which I certain anyone newly diagnosed with the condition will find really helpful. I hope you continue to improve and grow in strength both physically and psychologically. Lots of love Alison xx

Thank you so much for your kind words Alison, the support I've had off the back end of doing this video is amazing and it wasn't so much to get the personal sympathy but just to get more support for everyone suffering with this. I think it's much the same for all chronic illnesses, everyone is quick to support the well known such as cancer etc, which of course is great but there's little voice for chronic illnesses where people think from the outside there's nothing wrong when inside its a real struggle. Thank you for working hard as a nurse for all those years, sometimes I think the nurses are more help than the doctors!!! Xxx

+Katy Chapman Hi Katy, if you can find a specialist nurse for ulcerative colitis then they would be really helpful for you. There should be a nurse at the Radcliffe, why would be really useful for you to try and contact if you can. stay well xx
