I made a board like this a year ago... schmidt array, midi switcher, custom cabling... the whole deal. I ended up breaking it down 6 months later. There were a number of things I didn't end up liking about it: 1. I'm too much of a pedal swapper. I like to try new things and this format was too rigid. 2. It was insanely heavy which limited my use. 3. It was too complicated. I found myself spending too much time tweaking the board and not playing. 4. I like to play different guitars and amps and I find it hard to get presets that work with all of them. Now I use an acclam board which allows for easy swapping. I try not too have too many on it at once.

I understand that perspective completely. As cool as Paul's setup is I'd be forever fidgeting with it. I'm 12 months into a small board built around a GT-1000 Core and I'm still constantly tweaking. Endless possibilities can be difficult to manage.

Hi Paul, greetings from Scotland. Firstly, your playing is amazing, and brings a smile to my face. The pedal board is wonderful, and combined with your playing makes everything look effortless. Unfortunately for me I have a hard enough time playing the guitar, without focusing on what switch to stomp on, or what fx to use. Electric guitar can sometimes seem ( to me ) too complex. …or maybe I don’t practice enough 🙁 anyhow acoustic is my weapon of choice, or if I pick up my electric it’s plugged straight into amp with no pedal involvement. However when I watch you playing, I’m always learning, and enthused. Cheers

@ossiehalvorson7702 2 года назад
@@achill3usoverclocking874 I'm a professional lmao. I also don't think you understand that it was made for everybody, but they were discontinued, and that's why the price skyrocketed like it did. At one point, these pedals were around $300. You're paying thousands of dollars for a single $300 overdrive pedal, one which is mostly valued so high because it's a collector's item (and more recently a status symbol in the community) and the cost has a lot less to do with the quality, good as it may be. That being said, it can potentially be worth it for a RU-vid content creator, so I'm not dabbing on Paul here. People are fascinated with this pedal right now, so a big name just showing one off in a video is probably enough to pay it off after the video has been up long enough.

The way music gear automation is going is cool as hell. I almost bought a $2k console from a liquidation sale (studio owner went to prison) and passed on it. Didn't look like anything too awfully special at the time. Later I looked it up and found out it was a like $19k console and watched some videos, fully MIDI automated. The video had a mix going and the dude would just slap record, move the faders, and when he'd play it back all the faders would automatically move exactly the same. Like the entire console would go into motion when he hit play, every fader, every dial, everything. Blew my mind. I was so unhappy when I called and it had sold already. Top three regrets of my life not picking it up that day.

I’d say a good low-gain overdrive like a blues breaker style pedal (maybe a Wampler Pantheon) or an ODR-1, a high-gain overdrive like an Angry Charlie or some other “Marshall in a Box.” A tube screamer will also help with some of those tones. I would def recommend a delay, and you might also want to grab a chorus (Kurt Cobain liked the Small Clone, but I prefer the Caroline Somersault for more versatility).

Hey Paul, great rig you got there...I also finished my wooden, self-made board this month and still have to learn how to get the best out of it. One question on your 2 Reverbs, as I also own the Source Audio Collider. Why didn't you use the MIDI function of it and the hall or E-Dome setting to switch to these nice ambient sounds you produce with the Chase Bliss CXM 1978? Thanks for your content, btw! :)

Hi Paul ! Great video as always. I saw that it could be difficult to close the pedal board as the MKII and CXM are pretty "tall". Did you experienced taht as well ? Or did it close smoothly ? (I'am about to buy one but...the price makes me check every parameters :) )

I am happy for you, truly. It still amazes me how complicated one can make playing the electric guitar. Mmh. Or maybe this is part of the fun? :-)

Wow awesome sounds and awesome board !!! Def checking out the that pedal show video those guys RULE! Watching how you and the Baroness guitarists utilize the gig rig switching systems has really piqued my interest in that switching system. In a few years hoping to hook up with one of those ! Such a cool switching system

Paul I enjoy how dynamic your playing is. I enjoy watching players moves from soft to hard playing and know how to get the sound they want out of their touch.

Would love an in depth overview of the programming of the G3 for this board. I have most of these pedals and would like to do pretty much the same things you are doing (minus the talent...).
