I break down my 8 semesters as a Mechatronics student in ‪@SwissGermanUniversityOfficial‬ , and beyond. It's amazing and crazy the experiences I got in these years as a young adult, and I am always grateful for the opportunities they got me. I hope it inspires you to make the most of your situation, and believe that everything will work out for the best. 🥰🔥

Same things happened to me. Early this year, I was so bumped out when I got rejected to work in Japan from a certain company. But you know what? I didn't give up and use the rejection as a fuel to get my gears going. I started to "hustle" my way through by studying, grinding, and asking for advice. Long story short, I managed to get an offer from another company in Japan which I think it's a better for me personally. Moral of the story is, when life's pulled you back, just imagine yourself as an arrow. Just keep aiming, keep focus on the direction you want to go to. And when the arrow "whoosh"-es, who knows that you'll be in a place you never know you're supposed to be. Btw, great video. I always love your language content. It's funny and relatable for us Indonesians 👍Thank you. Terima Kasih. ありがとう。

Feeling down after being rejected by NUS (and NTU) is relatable lol. It's not such a big deal, because nothing shameful from trying to achieve big dream. Those Singaporean Unis are notoriously hard, even for educated and well experienced people. Glad that you find your own path that shape you the way you are now. Never thought you're studying engineering from the way you make your videos lol, you are indeed really smart.

Halo, boleh tanya? Aku penasaran, apa sih bikin kamu belajar bahasa Indonesia?
@Castlevaniac1

This video leaves me with a weird feeling. Let me send ahead that the successes portrayed in this video are well-earned and a stellar example of someone putting in a lot of hard work and reaping rewards. I respect that, and I respect the feelings of doubt, depression or issues with self-worth that the initially mentioned rejection might have caused. It just seems that as a motivational video the target audience might be rather specific. Essentially the video boils down to "after not getting into the total top level elite just like that, I instead threw myself into every single curricular and extracurricular activity I could find and worked myself to the point of sleep deprivation". That certainly is good for your CV, but I know a lot of people who actually struggle to get things done and even achieve a sliver of all of this, people who do not have the psychic resilience or mental energy to attempt even half of that without having a total fucking burnout. So essentially this way of going about things is a best case scenario for hardcore achiever types of people. I'm not sure someone who can actually get this awesome amount of work done needs much inspiration to actually do that. Maybe it's a very Asian perspective on success, where not entering the global elite is already failure. Even "17 year old Gene" who "thought her life was over" is shown holding the largest golden trophy I've ever seen in a non-professional setting. Not exactly the image with which I'd portray someone struggling. I guess as someone from the "has issues" part of the population, I feel slightly chaffed by someone portraying a Grade A career earned with super hard work as an unexpected positive result. If someone wishes to educate more on the inside perspective of someone who feels represented by this video, I'm more than happy to learn about that. I hope I didn't come across as too rude.
@gcmastrl8349
@gcmastrl8349 7 месяцев назад
I also have the same thought. Don't get me wrong, she's admirable and her achievements are amazing, but it's like there's something else missing. Maybe the typical Asian stereotype of being at the top because of efforts with the brains, or etc etc.. I feel like there's a lot more to it than just this short video alone, that we don't know of, causing some of us ( for example me ) not being able to relate to her as much.
@GESTEofficial
@GESTEofficial 7 месяцев назад
Hey, thanks for sharing your thoughts 😊 They're perfectly valid and are not rude at all. The hustling I did back then took a toll on me after graduation and I learned the hard way to rest and not be achievement-oriented -- but all that wouldn't fit into one short video, or even a series of videos. I hope you can find your own way of going through life well. 😊
@GESTEofficial
@GESTEofficial 7 месяцев назад
@@gcmastrl8349 I agree, I think the achievement-oriented mindset is very Asian, and I learned whole new perspectives of what other cultures consider as a successful or a good life - especially the more stability-oriented German culture during my years in Germany. The years after graduation taught me a lot - and I hope I can share them someday in other videos as well. 😊
@BlommaBaumbart
@BlommaBaumbart 7 месяцев назад
@@GESTEofficialThanks. Looking forward to your comparative perspective on life. Despite all my confusion with the video, I actually still think it's valuable to show young people how much it actually takes to be a good candidate for positions, and how much it actually goes beyond just graduating with good grades in the mandatory stuff. If your video inspires students to do just a bit extra, they'll be better off for it.
@XLightChanX
@XLightChanX 7 месяцев назад
i think, the non-intnetional humble brag aside since she can be extremely proud, it's because it's a typical winner story. there are tons of students with just the same amount of effort and hard work that still, for different reasons, did not end up on the top, being offered a job when the pandamic hit, graduating summa cum laude, and it just get's old being told by the winners how everyone could win if they just try as hard as them (not that this was the intention of the video), because it's not relatable or helpful to people in their own situation. life doesn't always turn out like we want to, but making it seem like it turns out even better after failure (which is a healthy mindset but not always the case) by measuring performing-oriented goals just seems off haha

And I've motivated by you quite a long time ago when I asked you on instagram about learning language and should I read a book based on my language that I learned or not. Your replies are giving me the motivation to keep up my language study and finish my major. So, thanks again 😊

When I graduated from high school, I had a big dream to study abroad but I failed my scholarship application. Fast forward 1 bachelor degree and a few years work experiences later, I was more mature and capable of making decisions on my own, I got a full scholarship and studied my Master degree in one of the prestigious universities in Beijing. It did feel like a long detour but I thank God that I finally got there when I was ready to get there.

I have no idea who you are and good luck on your way. But lord help me. This is the story of so many girls Ive seen that are over archivers. Well, until their 30s come. They get panic, get pregnant, end their careers there. So they burned themselves out, to please parents and society and their own sense of accomplishment, just to end up where they invariably end up anyway. Because they are in a mindset of "I can do everything at the same time" of course they also want the perfect family and perfect kids. Truthbomb, kids will end your career. Yeah yeah yeah, modern women can do it all... Sure. Great story bro. So, all this burned up activity gave you a mix of rush plus sense of archiving something, but in the end it doesn't matter. Pro tip, you don't need archivement to have a great life. Living a fair amount in between is worth way more.

Ending one's career due to choosing to having child IS fine. Not ending one's career due to not choosing to having child IS fine. The point of (over)achieving something is to have CHOICES. If we did not make our choices, it will be made by others (and sadly for women out there, many still are made by their not-so-achieving men).
