I love my cotman watercolor brushes...they are underrated for sure..I specially love the small rounds for details because they don't wear out like the aqua elite (does anyone else notice that their hair frays at the ends after a few uses??? )

I totally agree with you about the cobalt blue and indanthrone blue, but my feelings about Naples yellow is totally opposite. The great news is everyone is allowed their preference. I have been putting together a small DS palette myself and it was interesting to see what colors you chose that were the same and where our differences were. Gives me some other colors to consider. Thanks for the video!

It's hard to tell on camera, but I think Daniel Smith's 'Raw Sienna Light' might be a fairly good match for the Naples yellow. Lovely juicy colours, and I too also looove just looking at Green Gold, its my fave DS colour, also love their Cascade Green. Thanks for the video! :-)

Ypur feelings toward ultramarine blue reminds me of how much I hate yellow ochre despite many artists loving this color 😅 in the end it's whatever works for you 👏🏼 I've seen an artistic her own lightfast moonglow if you interested, I think it was Kimberly Crickart 🤔 And I absolutely agree with shire green, I tried their dot card and was so frustrated of how little pigment got out 😤

Yes, there is no best color after all, it is all a matter of preference 😊 I am so happy I am not alone in it! Everybody seems to adore their super granulating line but shire green was the only one I bought and after that one I don't even feel like trying the other ones 😂 Thank you for your comment! ❤️

Great video, thx! I agree with you on French Ultramarine /Ultramarine. I think I will try the cobalt blue instead! I like W&N Naples Yellow Deep, which is single pigment PBr25. In the Daniel Smith I like Burgundy Yellow Ochre or Verona Gold Ochre, both PY43, although I am wanting to get the Mt Amiata Natural Sienna. Not sure if any of these DS would replace the White Nights Naples. I like the purples you have, as well as Ultramarine Violet, which I'm tempted to use instead of PB29! I'm also going to try Transparent Yellow Ochre. I love the Transparent Red Oxide, and have a total crush on Quin Burnt Scarlet. I like your palette. I'm also going to test out Quin Lilac (PR 122) vs Quin Rose.

Thank you so much for your comment! ❤️ After reading it, I opened my DS dot card and saw that I have both colors you suggest from DS! Verona seems a bit weak but Burgundy Yellow Ochre seems to be a perfect match for me! Now on my to-get list when I finish the half-pan in my palette! 🤩

You might try Raw Sienna Light by DS to be similar to the White Knights Naples Yellow. I'm not sure though. I recently bought the R.S. Lt. so as to have something comparable to W&N Raw Sienna but not so difficult to rewet.

Dear Tatiana in Denmark. I have just found your channel, and found a little clue that I have been looking for years. To find the perfect sky, "Cobalt blue DS and White nights Naples yellow. " schnap friend, not many of us clear and opaque sky people! I have been wanting to find a clear blue sky, without granulation, without a greeny mix. I wanted the opaqueness to make the clouds, and the glow from within. The opaque quality when mixed makes granulation finer, less prominent. I have similar in many brands, but not yet the right one! My journey started with ultramarine to find the finest, which is "Schmincke's Ultramarine finest", then I searched through the cobalts. I was going to try the indanthrone washed out, with an opaque. I have a lot of testing to go, but could I ask you to do this for me please? As you mention your cobalt blue with the White nights naples yellow; Could you please make a quick mix of them for me? for your non green sky, opaque, yet thins to clear and glowing, liftable. and send it to my email please? elizambday@yahoo.com.au. I am very happy to send you something in the mail for your time. I know what colours and brands you would like. ;) I have a real lot, and sometimes finding the unicorn is on a random channel mentioned briefly. Some people talk about Pbr7 to mix with blues to not go green, but really that is a huge amount of colours, and tones, names and brand differences. Jane Blundell is a friend of mine here in Australia, and she briefly mentioned Pbr7 in her list of colour mixing. I know she uses buff titanium, which is too granular for my skies that I want and see here in Australia. Some people only add reds and oranges to their skies for sunsets, then yellows that never meet the blue. Some people have this huge glow, back lit from clouds. Some would say, okay try a raw sienna. I have tried jarosite, a lovely colour found in some handmade paints which is like a raw sienna, and a cream colour mixed, clear yet opaque. As for evening skies, and Autumn, this is a whole other story, new colours a new adventure. Night landscape with flowering trees, would be a theme. So opaque, the granular comes from the simple tree branch in any dark burnt umber. The DS serpentine Genuine, the new fresh leaves. The flowers in a kind of violet mix a bit like Quin Lilac. Then we have cherry blossom branch simply, against the sky. Change the flower, keep the sky. repeat! Change the violet mix to a buff titanium colour or your Naples and white, and we have almond blossoms. Change the flower, we have magnolias. So, it is just my thing. I can't call it florals or landscapes, but it is more like Van Gogh's work, with his almond blossoms in a kind of oriental style. It is more like a statement of negative space....the gorgeous sky. Then do all that again for evening, and night. repeat! In Australia we can have a minty green lower sky in some evenings. Eg a bluey turquoise with lemon, thinned with water. Greys, and Indanthrone blue Payne's grey with big clouds, with purples when we have storms floods and rain. When we have fires, our skies are burnt orange. Night time in Australia. Another sky again. I did have some white nights. I didn't like the consistency in the pans, they were always sticky to touch, never dry, so I gave my set away. The colours seemed too bright for me. Is Naples yellow a sticky colour from the tube, does it dry in the pan where you live? So, really I don't have my favourite sky mix yet! (I still have a lot of guessing to test all these colours, I can't do them all. I can figure out my best choices, and just mix away. There are too many combinations, that simply aren't working for me. I don't have DS cobalt blue, but I do have other ones. The cobalt is the easy part. The other colour is the mystery! In kindred spirit, Eliza Most Beautiful Day is Today! 13th of May 2023 11:54am Dulwich Hill, Australia xx

Hi Eliza! Thank you so much for this absolutely wonderful comment! ❤️❤️❤️ Your description of different skies in Australia is incredible, I can imagine it so clearly, thank you so much for that! My favorite sky is a morning sky so I am constantly looking for what paint could give that feeling if a morning glow 😊 I will make the mixes and will send it to your email next week 😊 Regarding the white night paints in tubes the shirt answer is - it depends on the color. Blues, reds and most of the greens seem to dry just fine but you are right about naples yellow, it does remain sticky and never truly dries in my palette either so might get a pan version next time if I can find any. The pans behave just fine in my climate and I am used to their consistency. I was recommended though to try Burgundy Yellow Ochre from DS as a replacement so I might just do that as well 😊 Thank you so much for your comment and talk to you soon 😊😊
@michemman
@michemman Год назад
@@TatianasArtandCraft Yes Tatiana, good idea with the Burgundy Yellow Ochre. I think that granulates a bit? Will have to check. This is why I ask. IF I got all of the options, in Roman Szmal, and DS, it would be a lot to test and a lot to buy. So, it really helps me out! Let me know in the email, what paint you would like to try, so I can send you a little something! (Lots of handmades, a few brands, Qor for fun wooshy flow, favourite colours, Unicorns, rare pigments, Aussie colours, tertiaries, something you have always wanted to test or know!)
