ANNOUNCEMENT: I've been notified of multiple cases of plagiarism so I had to take down my website temporarily. I aimed for transparency in my work for the purpose of education and inspiration, rather than intellectual theft of my project brief, research, and designs to apply for jobs. I will be aiming up re-upload my website in February, 2024. Thanks!

And this might be a bit unexpected, but I'm actually currently searching for an internship in Product Design as a student of The Hague University of Applied Sciences, so in case you were also searching for an intern or ever considered to get one, I would appreciate this opportunity!

this is insanely useful ty! no one has shared their presentation so openly and thoroughly like you. I'm still indecisive about being a ux designer or data analyst. i love the creativity of ui/ux but i dont have the artistic talent (can't draw or paint stick figures to save my own life)

As a UX Designer I'll tell you, don't focus too much on the problem that you think your not artistically talented enough. Don't let that drag you down. It's actually a skill everyone can learn. Working with several teams within agencies aswell as a freelancer I can guarantee you designers are not creatively great at any artistic skill, but rather focused on a few. Some may be great at drawing, but bad at digital design. Some may be great in digital design, but draw the most messed up quick sketches on boards, especially in team workshops that becomes clear. The thing is all design skills follow a certain process. People don't pop into existence and all of a sudden know f.e right proportions in drawing, creating contrast with depth and shadows or are already aware of all design principles/guidelines. It's a attained skill over time improving upon learning what can be improved. The most important skill in any designer especially in a UX Designer is being able to recognize an issue and find solutions for said issue. An eye to see things can be improved. So don't give up. Don't feel inferior. Know your worth. And regarding your question about UX Designer or Data Analyst. I'm a very analytical person, I love UX and Data. But I love the creative expression and analysing human behaviour. You need to ask yourself do you like to use imaginative and soft skills to improve things or do you like creating and visualizing data in a more scientific and mathematical manner?
@joshhealey9
@joshhealey9 Год назад
Hey friend. You can grow in creativity. I’ve been in the design field for almost 10 years. Sometimes I also get overwhelmed by feeling inferior. The beauty of UX is it’s so much more logical and structured. You can do this.

Hey! Just seeing that you've gone to a lot of effort here and a lot of people are looking to replicate this (and as someone who's interviewed for design roles) I thought I would add some feedback here. There were three things that stood out to me as red flags and the first one is lack of problem discovery. It went from a compelling anecdote straight to desk research. It would have instilled a lot more confidence in the whole presentation if you were able to show how a more crude version of the problem (e.g. we need to make college students have as much success in their academic goals as their personal goals) could be transformed and better reframed by running a problem discovery effort that outlines the assumptions, generates the root cause questions, synthesises research responses into insights and defining upfront success metrics. I felt I needed reassurance that the anecdote was based in a wider reality. I was left wondering, even if this is an actual problem, what is the size of the market here really and even if it's big enough for us to solve, would they even pay for a solution? This leads to the second gap - no ideation process shown. Once you had the problem statement and converted it to a HMW, there was no process shown on how that HMW question launched an ideation workshop of some sort. Instead it went straight to testing ideas but in reality the ideas that were prototyped should have been shown to come from rank ordering ideas from a prior ideation session. Third is a couple of eyebrow raisers. The design system that was shown wasn't a design system. Design systems are more like self service guides to help devs and designers be enabled to make the right decision within their job. Even if it was, creating a design system is questionable for such a small bespoke project so calls judgement into question. If it were a platform then it'd seem a more appropriate use of an employers money. Other half is a simple one but one you gotta sort out... spelling error in a header with 'competitive'. We all do it so there's grace for it but when it's so prominent, seems like attention to details wasn't given. Well articulated and delivered so all that's in the bag, highly desirable and obviously has worked for you :)

You've done a fantastic presentation and breakdown overall for your main project as well as showcasing the how-to on putting it together. Showing how to be more efficient by recycling your project files for web and presentation formatting is incredibly useful for not only aspiring UX/UI designers, but is something that as a junior graphic designer myself I find I can always improve on as time is money in our respective work areas. Demonstrating how you set up for a live interview/presentation by keeping your main slideshow in the middle with a normal dialogue script nearby helped me to better understand how you were able to come off so naturally throughout the video and really invoked a sense of ease and professionalism throughout. Excellent work!

Really appreciate this video Sharon, I am currently enrolled in Springboard and just finishing up my first capstone, the overall process was not too hard, but it was really hard for me to string the pieces together and give a cohesive presentation. Watching you do this really helps me improve, thank you, thank you, thank you!
